On 7 October 2023, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian nationalist political organization turned Terrorists, Hamas, initiated a sudden attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. As part of the attack, 364 individuals, mostly civilians, were killed and many more wounded at the Supernova Sukkot Gathering, an open-air music festival during the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret near kibbutz Re'im. Hamas also took far more than 101 people hostage, and men and women were reportedly subject to sexual and gender-based violence. The temporary ceasefire agreement in November saw 105 civilians released from Hamas captivity, including 81 Israelis, 23 Thai nationals, and one Filipino. Out of the hostages taken, 200 were men and 51 were women. They were of all ages from babies to senior men and women.
It should be known that Israeli security forces have also carried out several high-risk and complex hostage rescue operations in the Gaza Strip. So far, eight hostages have been rescued alive by Israeli forces, and the bodies of 36 hostages have also been recovered.
One of the hostages, shown on an undated video, posted on the secure messaging service Telegram, shows 20-year-old Edan Alexander. The message says Alexander has been held captive by Hamas for more than 420 days. If true, the video would have been taken this past week. This is the 425th-427th day for the 101 hostages that have not been delivered from the evil terrorists, Hamas. They've been hostages for one year and two months already. Many most likely are already deceased, for they have been under the worst of circumstances being prisoners.
Ron Dermer, 53, (Hebrew: רון דרמר, born April 16, 1971) is an American-born Israeli political consultant and diplomat serving as the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs since 2022. He served as the Israeli Ambassador to the United States from 2013 to 2021.Ron Dermer to Trump related that only 60 hostages might still be alive. That's higher than the 51 thought by Mossad (Israeli Intelligence).

He is one of 7 US citizens still being held, part of the 101.
Omer's mother said, ""We saw what happened in late August, when the IDF was getting too close to the hostages, the terrorists got instructions to execute them," Orna said. "We saw six hostages executed in one day, one of them, American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin. And the conditions that they were held in and the state in which they were retrieved – they were emaciated, they were dehydrated, it doesn't leave a lot of room for imagination."They are in horrible conditions, and they need to be taken out as soon as possible," she added.
More than 260 bodies have reportedly been recovered from the festival site, according to rescue agency Zaka.
On 7 October 2023, as part of the Hamas-led attack on Israel at the beginning of the Israel–Hamas war, Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups abducted 251 people from Israel to the Gaza Strip, including children, women, and elderly people. Almost half of the hostages are foreign nationals or have multiple citizenships, and some hostages were Negev Bedouins. The precise ratio of soldiers and civilians among the captives is unknown. The captives are likely being held in different locations in the Gaza Strip.
Murder of six Israeli hostages: The bodies of six hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7 were found in a tunnel in Rafah, Gaza, shortly after they were murdered by the terror group. The hostages were Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23; Eden Yerushalmi, 24; Ori Danino, 25; Alex Lobanov, 32; Carmel Gat, 40; and Almog Sarusi, 27.An autopsy revealed they were killed 48 to 72 hours before their bodies were recovered. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the murders occurred just before they reached the site, and there were no clashes with the terrorists in the tunnel. U.S. President Biden and Israeli officials expressed their grief and anger, condemning Hamas and pledging continued efforts to secure the release of remaining hostages.
Around 94,000 American soldiers were held as prisoners of war by the Germans in Europe during World War II. American soldiers captured by the Germans during World War II typically remained prisoners for the duration of the war, which meant most were held captive for roughly three to four years until Germany's surrender in May 1945; however, the exact length of time could vary depending on when they were captured and the specific camp conditions they were held in.
There was no hesitation over Jews, however. Jews were slaughtered as soon as they were found; shot in masses or singly, or sent to gas chambers.
During World War II, American prisoners taken by the Japanese were typically held captive for around three years on average, with many enduring harsh conditions including forced labor and malnutrition, particularly those captured in the Philippines during the Bataan Death March; however, the exact length of captivity varied depending on the location and time of capture. Japanese POW camps were notorious for their brutal conditions, including inadequate food, sanitation, and medical care, leading to high mortality rates. Many American prisoners were forced to work in mines, factories, and other labor-intensive jobs.
