World's Up to Date June News About Israel and Then The Facts

 Nadene Goldfoot

She said, "I left Gaza For work and now I can't return," Watching it from afar is a nightmare" (published in USA Today, Abier Almasri- Senior Research Assistant, Middle East and North Africa Division)

Believe me, Abier; it's a nightmare for Jews everywhere, too, because we had left a beautiful Gaza with all our homes and businesses ready for the Palestinians, and they chose instead to destroy the business, and then use the land as a platform to shoot at Israel .  Israel had disengaged their own people for the Arabs in the name of Peace and they know it.  "Israel officially withdrew its forces and dismantled towns from the Gaza Strip in 2005, as part of a plan for disengagement.

  • Ongoing Hostilities in Gaza According to a summary of news articles:
  •  Intense Israeli military operations continue in Gaza, leading to further casualties and destruction. There are concerns about the high death toll and the humanitarian crisis, with international bodies raising alarm about the scale of violence and deprivation faced by Palestinians.
  •     Notice they never seem to notice that IDF soldiers are dying also.  Yesterday 4 died when a building was booby-trapped by the terrorists, and these 4 were searching in the tunnel underneath for hostages, and they were killed.
  • Aid Distribution Challenges: Aid distribution in Gaza has been described as "a death trap," with multiple reports of people being killed while seeking assistance. A new, controversial aid system, partially backed by the US, has been implemented, but faces challenges and criticism.
  •      Notice the crowds of people, live, pushing and shoving to get to the trucks.
  • Hostage Situation: Efforts to recover hostages held by Hamas continue. Recently, the bodies of two Israeli-American hostages killed during the October 7th attack were recovered in southern Gaza. The Israeli military also claims to have recovered the body of a Thai hostage held since October 7th.
  •
Gali Baharav-Miara (Hebrew: גלי בהרב-מיארה‎; born 18 September 1959) is an Israeli lawyer who serves as the current Attorney General of Israel.
She is the first female Attorney General of Israel.
  • Political Tensions: Within the Israeli government, there are tensions and reported disagreements. Netanyahu's government recently voted to begin the process of dismissing the Attorney General.
  • The Israeli cabinet is taking steps to remove the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, a female, due to perceived disagreements and a perceived undermining of the government by her. Critics accuse this move of being part of a broader effort to curb the independence of the judiciary and purge officials seen as disloyal to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Justice Minister, Yariv Levin, proposed a no-confidence motion, citing substantial differences between the government and the Attorney General. Netanyahu and his allies accuse the Attorney General of undermining them, with specific examples cited related to the stability of the governing coalition and the ultra-Orthodox exemption from military service.
  • Debates surrounding military service, particularly for ultra-Orthodox Israelis, are also ongoing.
  • Currently, due to a ruling by the Israeli Supreme Court in June 2024, ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) men, including 18-year-olds, are legally obligated to serve in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This ruling effectively ended a decades-long exemption that allowed Haredi yeshiva students to defer or be exempt from military service.
  • Cross-border Conflict: The conflict has extended beyond Gaza, with ongoing clashes and airstrikes involving Hezbollah in Lebanon and missile attacks from the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Israel has carried out airstrikes in Lebanon, targeting alleged Hezbollah sites.
  •    Israel is fighting for its life on 7 fronts;  being Israelis only people on the ground with them.  USA is helping on the sea and air against Houthis.
  • Israel has been patient since 1967, not living in any part of Judea/Samaria except that destined by Oslo Report, but perhaps now is the time to populate more of their own original land.  Why hold off and follow the rules if your enemy isn't?
  •  The US recently vetoed a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate Gaza ceasefire.
  •      Thank goodness!
  •  The EU has voiced support for the International Criminal Court following US sanctions on ICC judges investigating Israel.
  •
Here are the 4 women  ICC judges that USA put sanctions on who are against Israel.
  • Left to right: Judge Luz del Carmen Ibanez Carranza (Peru), ICC Second Vice-President Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini Gansou (Benin), Judge Beti Hohler (Slovenia) and Judge Solomy Balungi Bossa (Uganda).
  •         Alapini-Gansou and Hohler were targeted for their role as Pre-Trial judges in issuing arrest warrants in November 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. The charges involve alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
The International Court of Justice, which has its seat in The Hague,
is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations
  •  In short: The United Nations' International Court of Justice ruled on Jan 26. that while South Africa’s genocide case against Israel is under review, Israel must "take all measures within its power to prevent and punish the direct and public incitement to commit genocide" as well as immediately allow for humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip. But the judges did not approve the request to stop military action in Gaza, nor did they order a cease-fire. One judge, Julia Sebutinde of Uganda, dissented on all six provisional measures the court approved, voting no on more measures than the judge Israel appointed to the ICJ for this case.
  • Security Concerns: Security alerts have been issued by the US Embassy in Jerusalem regarding the potential for violence and demonstrations.

Lebanese Tiring Of Hezbollah Terrorists But Hague Wants Netanyahu Arrested Anyway

 Nadene Goldfoot

Just at the time when the Lebanese civilians are sick and tired of having Hezbollah in their midst, they are realizing that they are not only incapable of bringing them peace and a better government, that they have brought them just the opposite, and that the Israelis are not bad after all.  In fact, they are hoping that the Israelis wipe the Hezbollah terrorists out!

The court said there is probable cause that Deif is responsible for war crimes and

crimes against humanity, including taking hostages,

rape, and extermination, but he's already been assassinated by the IDF in July.

So what has the ICC (International Criminal Court of the UN)- the Hague,  come up with at this tender time?  They have put out an arrest warrant of Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel and  former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant. They surprise us by including  Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif for war crimes and crimes against humanity as well.

This is the first time a State Head has had this happen to themselves.  Now, it is not that surprising that the ICC would do something like this.  The UN is full with over 49 countries of Muslim majority  population that have been wanting to eliminate Israel, the only Jewish country in the world with the original one having been created by King Saul back in about 1030 BCE which is over 3,000 years ago.  The UN has continually found fault with only Israel, never the people trying to eliminate them.  It's highly prejudiced !

The International Criminal Court alleges Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Gaza offensive. Photo: (Amir Cohen/Reuters)

Arrest warrants issued for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister over alleged war crimes threaten to deepen the global isolation of a country already under pressure around the world for its handling of the war in the Gaza Strip. Almost all of Europe are abiding with this ruling, lacking the spine to speak out against the UN leadership.  The USA are not going along with it, but Canada seems to be doing so.  The British government clarified its position on the arrest warrants issued by the world's top criminal court for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant by suggesting that it would arrest the leaders if they travelled to Britain.

Israel has tried to argue that the ICC doesn’t have jurisdiction over Israelis at all, but the state of Palestine has been a signatory since 2015 — so crimes committed by anyone in occupied Palestinian territory like Gaza are, in fact, the ICC’s purview.

Palestine?  What is a signatory?  A signatory is someone who signs a contract, therefore creating a legal obligation. There could be several signatories for a specific contract. Over time, this word has often been used for a person or country who signs a peace treaty. If the treaty is broken, the signatory will be blamed.  As of June 2024, the State of Palestine is recognized as a sovereign state by 146 of the 193 member states of the United Nations, or just over 75% of all UN members.  And then, the October 7, 2024 attack by Palestinians on over 200 Israelis living alongside Gaza on a National holiday of Sukkot !  They were horribly killed, as if by monsters, little babies to oldsters, beheaded and painful burnings, in ways we can't even imagine.  What an introduction to their becoming a peaceful state Israel was to live next to !  I blame all that made these Monsters a state along with the monsters themselves.

As far as we know, there has never been, nor is now, a state of Palestine.  As I've said a thousand times, it was the Romans who named a part of Israel as Palestine after 70 CE, the name of Israel's worst enemies then, the Philistines.  Rome took down Jerusalem by burning the city and it's Solomon's Temple at that time as well as their Roman occupation that had been going on.

124 countries can arrest the Prime Minister of Israel with Gallant since they voted for this; so many of Europe doing so.  Netanyahu has called the ICC's arrest warrant an "antisemitic decision" and said, "Israel utterly rejects the false and absurd charges of the ICC, a biased and discriminatory political body."  The British government clarified its position on the arrest warrants issued by the world's top criminal court for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant by suggesting that it would arrest the leaders if they travelled to Britain.

Britain has let us down since the end of WWI when they stated in a letter (Balfour Doctrine)  in the 1920s their support for a Jewish National Home with land regained from Ottoman Empire's holdings, raising our hopes, only to cut the land down to 10% of the original promised size by giving away 80% of it to the Prince of Arabia who needed land and people to rule.  The Jews had 600,000 looking at their native land they had lost to the Romans, wanting that particular land for the past 2,000 years.

President Joe Biden has expressed support for Israel and called the warrants

"disgraceful." The U.S. is a strong ally of Israel and neither country is a member of

the ICC.  It's amazing how many countries are chicken and just follow their leader.

War Crimes of the Palestinians

Nadene Goldfodot
Using Humans as shields is a war crime.
Hamas is guilty of doing this.
Hezbollah terrorists

4th Geneva Convention Decision
The terrorist groups, Hezbollah, ISIS and Hamas have used the strategy of hiding among civilians.  Then they launch attacks from civilian centers such as schools and mosques and DELIBERATELY  endanger noncombatants.
Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, August 12, 1948, article 28
The presence of a protected person may not be used to render certain points or areas immune from military operations.   They have used UN buildings, schools and mosques, TV stations, radio stations, .

Geneva Convention Protocol  addition, Article 51 (7) June 8, 1977.
The Parties to the conflict shall not direct the movement of the civilian population or individual civilians in order to attempt to shield military objectives from attacks or to shield military operations.

Part II. General Protection of Populations Against Certain Consequences of War.

Hamas did not protect their population during the consequences of making war on Israel.  Instead, they did the opposite.  While Israel warned the population to find safety and get out of the way, the Terrorists kept them in place so they would take the brunt of the attack.  This has caused the myopic European continent to not understand Israel's position of being constantly under attack of rockets, missiles and mortars where they had reached all corners of their state from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, bringing about the consequences of Israel's Operation Defensive Edge; defending Israel from harm.

War inclinations were started up again on 5 March 2014 , when the Israeli Navy intercepted a ship containing dozens of long-range rockets being smuggled from Iran to the Gaza Strip.  On 10 March, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip, unveiled a monument to its rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns, a life-sized model of an M-75 rocket in Gaza City. The group declared that the attacks "managed to take the battle to the heart of the Zionist entity (Israel.  This rocket has a range of 75 kilometers or 46.6028 miles.  It is 44 miles from Gaza to Tel Aviv!  It is 48 miles from Gaza to Jerusalem!  They were both under fire during Operation Defensive Edge with all civilians in bomb shelters.

Iran supplying Gaza with rockets

In July 2014,  the number of rocket attacks launched toward Israel from Gaza increased dramatically. Eighty rockets were fired on 7 July. On the following day, Israel launched Operation Protective Edge.  On July 8th 156 rockets were shot into Israel along with 117 mortars.  The operation ended on August 26, 2014; totaling 1 month, 2 weeks and 4 days.  4,564 rockets and mortars were shot into Israel.

This could be a type of Fajr-5 from Iran. They transport them in these tunnels after taking them apart.

Fajr-5s could be moved through the smuggling tunnels to Gaza only if broken down into 8-10 sections, and then reassembled on the other end. Getting the pieces into Egypt would not be easy, and trying to smuggle them in by sea is very risky. The Fajr-5 carries a 200 kg (440 pound) warhead, with about a hundred kilograms (220 pounds) of explosives. It makes a big bang and is only effective if aimed at a large urban area. That means that the most likely victims will be civilians.

Note: Gaza was not emptied of Jews to become a station to attack Israel.  That's what it has become under the auspices of the Palestinians.

Why USA Must Stop USA Aid to Palestinian Authority

Nadene Goldfoot
The Palestinian Authority gets  annual aid grant from the USA to the tune of $440 million dollar aid package.

Since they established a limited self-rule in Judea-Samaria and Gaza Strip in the mid-1990s, the USA government has committed  $4 -$5 billion in bilateral assistance to these Palestinians.  They are one of the world's largest per capita recipients of international foreign aid.  Administrations since then have asked for aid for them to support at least 3 major USA policy priorities of interest to Congress.

From June 2007 to June 2014, the Palestinians have been receiving aid,  but Obama's government split it finally between Fatah and Hamas.  Evidently Hamas has been getting aid even though they are listed as terrorists.  Since when do we supply terrorists with aid?  Aid to attack Israel?

1. Prevent terrorism against Israel from Hamas and other militant organizations.
2. Create a cycle of stability and prosperity in Judea-Samaria so that people in both places will be inclined towards peaceful coexistence with Israel and prepare them for self-governance.
3. Meet humanitarian needs, prevent further destabilization, especially in Gaza.

None of these objectives have been met.  Some USA lawmakers took action in August 2011 to delay the finances since the Palestinians seek more international support for statehood outside of negotiations with Israel.  Agreements since May 2011 between Fatah and Hamas raise concerns.  Hamas is a UN-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization that claims to reserve the right to violently oppose Israel's existence.

Hamas used UNRWA gear in building their tunnels

Since 2008 to the present, annual US bilateral aid to Judea-Samaria and Gaza has averaged over $600 million including $200 million in direct aid and over $100 million in non-lethal security aid for the PA.  The USA is the largest donor to UNRWA who are in Hamas controlled Gaza.

Hamas Terrorists
Funds can be diverted to Palestinian terrorist groups.  Other international donors are on the list.  USA policymakers routinely call for greater or more timely assistance from Arab governments who have pledged aid.  Lack of legitimate and peaceful 2-state solutions and just giving money undermines the Palestinians to become stable or self-reliant.  They've used their money  for something else in that they haven't even paid Israel for their utility bill and are always so in arrears that Israel has to take their tax money as collateral.  Is the money going for tunnels, mortars, rockets and missiles for Hamas?  Or is it going into someone's pockets as it also does in Gaza.  Reports have come out there of the millionaires being created from the tunnels.

$37 billion USA dollars goes to foreign aid.  This is only 1% of the total federal budget and amounts to $23 billion without the military aid money.  Israel doesn't get this aid now, but they do get military aid finances.

Now the situation is much worse for Israel.  The Palestinians are in the act of joining the International Criminal Court (ICC) to pursue war-crimes charges against Israel.  Even State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that "they are deeply troubled by the Palestinian action which is entirely counterproductive and does nothing to further the aspirations of the Palestinian people for its sovereign independent state.  It badly damages the atmosphere with the very people with whom they ultimately need to make peace.

The Palestinian decision to join the ICC came almost immediately with the UN Security Council's rejection of a resolution that would have called for Israeli withdrawal from Judea-Samaria and Jerusalem by 2017.  At the ICC the Palestinians will be able to bring war-crime charges against each Israeli they wish which certainly would cause them to move further away from a negotiated settlement with Israel.  It's just another effort to put pressure on Israel and try to get more concessions out of Israel.

The defeated resolution was impossible to fathom for the following reasons:
1. Israel would have to rely on the UN for security.
(I note that already the USA consulate plans to arm  their Palestinian guards which is against Israeli law.)  The plan is a breach of a 2011 agreement between the consulate and the Israeli government, which determined that only former IDF combat soldiers hired by the consulate would be allowed to carry weapons.
US Consulate in West Jerusalem

2. None of Israel's security needs will be given any credence-(just like at the consulate right now.)
3. Israel would not be able to keep territory in order to keep defensible borders.
4. Palestine would be able to have arms-wouldn't be demilitarized.
5. NO IDF presence in the Jordan Valley
6. Borders would be like the 1947 armistice lines with only the most minor land swaps.
7. Be able to sue individual Israelis for War Crimes when Hamas are the ones to attack Israel-and IDF has been the most careful of all armies in trying to keep civilians from harm's way-and PALESTINIANS put them IN HARMS WAY.

Israelis in Katusha  Rocket Range; 9 miles from Netanya to Judea-Samaria, 11 miles from Tel Aviv

Israel has Hamas next door in Gaza and now in Judea-Samaria being they unified.  Hamas could attack Israel with missiles as they did which brought about Operation Defensive Edge and then also hit the PA.  Hizbullah is in the neighborhood.  Iran is moving towards having nuclear weapons capacity. Israel's security and defense needs are humongous in a world already down on Israel who can't even support her verbally.

As it is, the Palestinians find no reason to have to negotiate in good faith or make any concessions from the wild demands they make.

What Israel needs is a strong voice against the Palestinians that can tell them of their support for Israel and to stop imposing their ridiculous solutions on Israel.  The first thing they need to release is their Hamas Charter for one of peace.  As the headline of a Times editorial said, this is a Palestinian desperation move.

They went on to say that "we reject the notion that there is some presumptive legitimacy to the Palestinians all or nothing demands. Mahmoud Abbas may think he can get his way by going to his friends at the UN.  By words and by deeds, the USA needs to persuade him that he is on  the wrong track.

In the meantime, don't keep giving them money.  Money speaks louder than words, and it's time to withdraw aid in order to show displeasure over their acts.  They're only being rewarded for them.

"Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., is  the author of 2006 legislation that bars taxpayer support for a "Hamas-controlled Palestinian Authority," House Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif., expressed similar views.

"While the ‘unity government’ hides behind the facade of nonpartisan bureaucrats, it was only born out of support from Hamas — a terrorist organization that continues to call for Israel’s annihilation," he said in a statement. "Hamas is no partner for peace; nor a legitimate recipient of aid."
"Although we do not believe the US should immediately end all funding to the Palestinian Authority," ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said in a statement, "We support the idea of a pause in funding US aid to see if the new government can qualify to avoid a full cut of funding under the 2006 Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act prohibiting US foreign aid to a Palestinian government which includes Hamas."  But the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) — like Cantor — said the onus should be on the new government to show its mettle before aid is restored.

For 24 years the USA has been granting monies to the Palestinian Arabs even though they haven't stopped attacking Israelis.  They've hemmed and hawed at cutting aid.  It's time.  Pull the plug!  What more are you waiting for to happen?  None of USA expectations have been fulfilled with this money.  It hasn't been accountable.  You have no idea where it's going, and the worst fact of all is that it's been going to terrorism to use against Israel.  Here they're demonstrating wanting terrorists released.

Criticizing Israel and Backing Abbas

Nadene Goldfoot
Fatah and Hamas United

It's like criticizing Dorothy and being in favor of the wicked witch of the East

Abbas's Fatah Palestine Authority has been dallying around with a marriage to Hamas for several years and finally, as his 80th birthday is now closer on March 26th, Abbas did it.  He united with the terrorist group, Hamas, listed as terrorists even in the United States.  By doing this, Fatah has accepted the Hamas charter which is about the same as the Muslim Brotherhood charter, and that is to destroy Israel and kill Jews.

From their charter under article 6.
: “The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems
fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide
behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O
Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and
kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (evidently a certain kind
of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of
the Jews” (related by al-Bukhari and Moslem).

The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished
Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose
way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah
over every inch of Palestine,

While Hamas rules Gaza, the Palestine Authority is based in Judea and Samaria, called the West Bank by Jordan, while Israel, created on May 14, 1948, sits between.  Abbas has been given millions of dollars by his Arab friends but has not used any of it to pay for such things as electric or water utilities, and of course their people are not into developing businesses.  The business of Hamas has been to bomb Israel with mortars, rockets and missiles.  Of late they have also dug intricate tunnels that lead to Israel in order to attack and do such things as kidnap people for ransom or to kill the masses.

It's been up to Israel to take on the humane task of supplying utilities to their enemies, and I say enemies because  the Palestinians will not recognize Israel's right to  exist and half or more are known terrorists.  Instead these Arabs have developed a culture of hate and destruction against the Jews.  Hamas was a Fatah group who broke away from the main party in order to be more violent towards Israel.  They have brought on the final decision by Israel to intercede with Operation Protective Edge this past summer.  After all the wars against Israel of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973 and the rest, the Arabs realize they will not win against the feisty Jews.

Missiles from Gaza aiming for Israel

They have now decided an attack by the PA President Mahmoud Abbas's decision to apply for Palestinian membership to the International Criminal Court called the ICC since they have received the nod from so many like Sweden  to be a state. What they intend to do is something like sue Israel for defending themselves against their aggression.  With this topsy- turvy world of  antagonism against the Jewish state,  the collective world logic today is against Israel no matter how illogical their reasons are.

ICC in the Netherlands
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on January 4th that "Israel will not sit idly by" while the PA opts "for a confrontation with the state of Israel.  We will not allow the Palestinians to drag IDF soldiers and commanders to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netanyahu said.  He went on to explain that it was the PA who made an alliance with Hamas war criminals and it is they who should be held accountable by the ICC.

Israel has  decided to halt the scheduled transfer of $127 million dollars in tax revenue to the Palestinian Authority after learning of their decision to apply for Palestinian membership in the International Criminal Court.  The USA criticized Israel's decision to suspend the Palestinian tax transfer.

PAs Abbas of Fatah
PLO  and Fatah Leader Arafat, replaced by Abbas
Maybe the USA doesn't realize that the Palestinians are  bad customers who do not pay their bills. It looks like its people do not work so its up to their government to supply utilities.  On December 12, 2012, it was recorded that Under interim peace deals, Israel collects some $100 million a month in duties on behalf of the Palestinian Authority in the Judea-Samaria areas -- money that is badly needed to pay public sector salaries.  Israel has already withheld the December transfer, saying the money would be used to start paying off $200 million the Palestinians owe the Israel Electric Corporation. Israel has previously frozen payments to the Palestinian Authority during times of heightened security and diplomatic tensions, provoking strong international criticism, such as when the U.N. cultural body UNESCO granted the Palestinians full membership a year ago on October 31, 2011.

It was known in January 2014 that Israel had to take $55 million from the Palestinian tax revenue for past due bills.  Again they also had to take $25 million to cover more unpaid debs of a Palestinian electric company.  Another $25 million was taken by Israel to cover other debts that never are taken care of.  Israel took $30 million shekels to cover the cost of the Palestinian patients that were referred to Israeli hospitals.  No, they accumulate debts but never bother to  pay them.  Perhaps they are so used to the USA and other rich Arab countries to just give them money that they have no regard for it.   To this day, the USA is giving them money.  If it were not for the fact that Israel holds this tax revenue collecting, which is collateral on their unpaid bills, they could not be doing such things as supplying electricity.

Abbas has done many irritating things to Israel, so it's been a war between Israel and these Arabs without using regular arms. In April 2014  "Abbas responded to Israel's not finishing the release of about 24 Palestinian killers by signing the 15 global treaties, including the Geneva Conventions on the conduct of war and occupations, on behalf of the State of Palestine, a defiant move that surprised Washington and angered Israel. The Arabs had refused to extend talks past the April 29th deadline.  It's always tit for tat all along."
It's whitewashing Fatah as a political group willing to make peace with Israel that nations have accomplished.  Fatah was started with Yasser Arafat (August 24, 1929-November 11, 2004) who was one of the worst of terrorists.  Mahmoud Abbas, though more educated and younger (March 26, 1935) has his idol's same views but has opted for more subtle attacks but just as volatile and deceitful. Notice he goes along with not recognizing Israel.   Abbas has no authority.  His term expired on January 9, 2009.  He's under the thumb of Hamas as a puppet leader.
