Roger Fisher, The Man Starting The Case For and the Case Against Israel

Harvard lawyer Roger Drummon Fisher,(1922-2012 Illinois, lawyer), son of Walter Taylor Fisher (1892-1991 b:Chicago, lawyer)  and Katherine Drummon Fisher;  son of Walter Lowrie Fisher (1862-1935  lawyer)   in Wheeling, Ohio, West Virginia .  Three generations of lawyers. 

PBS had this program called  "The Advocates" on Sunday evenings.  The American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker group that had shown considerable bias against Israel, had offered this idea.  Roger Fisher(May 28, 1922-August 25, 2012)  was also a Harvard Law Professor but who supported the Arab side of the conflict with Israel.  He was all for the Palestinians.  Roger was the founder and executive producer of the program.  

Alan Dershowitz (September 1, 1938)  was up against Roger Fisher  on a PBS Show in Los Angeles with a live audience in 1970 when he was a young Harvard Law professor. From 1964 to 2013, he taught at Harvard Law School, where he was appointed as the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law in 1993.  He's an authority on the American Constitution.

Dershowitz had his first visit of Israel before the show, visiting the Gaza Strip.  Dershowitz says he found himself sympathetic to the Arabs of the West Bank and Gaza and families of 1948 that were separated then and those also in 1967.  He was there for several weeks, but came back with pride for Israel and ready for the debate. He was Israel's lead lawyer in the court of public opinion.  

           Ten years later after PBS's The Advocates:  In my living room in Safed in 1980  sitting on a single bed waiting for my lift to arrive at the port with our furniture.  The only window has bars on it because we were on a first floor and terrorists could enter without them.  I made arrangements from eastern Oregon's Ontario where we lived for housing and a 10 month re-training program to teach English in Israel.  We even took our female German shepherd with us.  We gave up a beautiful home and had never visited Israel before, but I had done a lot of reading; so much so that I had to make aliyah.  

I didn't just visit Israel for a couple of weeks.  I lived there for over 5 years before returning to the states from September 1980 to November 23, 1985.  My first 10 months were at a school studying Hebrew 6 days a week, then teaching in a junior high our English language.  We saw as much as we could during those 5 years.  I gave blood and in return I would get blood if needed.  I learned to shoot an A1 rifle and work with Israelis who drove around, spotters of trouble.  My German shepherd who also immigrated with me was with me during these drives and the most favorite on these drives. I voted in an election.   I shopped in supermarkets, took walks, bought a car, wrote plays and then produced them, acting as well in them.  We had started "Yiddish Theater in English." and Safed was our home where we did all this.  I scratch my head trying to figure out how these Quakers came up with such a taste of Israel--and in 2 weeks.  

Fisher started the debate stating that the American Friends found blame enough for all in their visit.  He went on with "There are no devils and no angels in the Middle East. " Then Fisher stated that he had 4 things that Israel should be doing.   (I can tell right away that those viewing what they were taken to see had no military background to know what to look for.) 

They believed the US should urge Israel to use military leverage.  Here was what he then stated.  

1. Allow Palestinian refugees into the West Bank and Israel itself.  

2. Israel should withdraw its forces as part of package settlement.  

3. Israel should abandon the policy of escalatory retaliation-2 eyes for an eye.

4. Israel should sit down with indirect talks, not insisting that the 1st talks be face to face.  

Then he trusted President Nasser and King Hussein to be his key witnesses.  Nasser began with a straight-out lie, ignoring the 3 No's at Khartoum:   I take it Fisher used quotes from these men.  They wouldn't have been a part of this live show.  That means that Fisher is the one who did the research was ignoring the Khartoum decisions that the Arabs were not ignoring.  They were following it quite well with loud and emphatic No, No, No!.

Quaker activists' work in March 2019.  Quaker schools are fertile ground for BDS and have become ground zero when it comes to pro-BDS faculty and students. The Quaker tradition of even-handedness and political neutrality has long passed; by the late 1970s the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) had effectively enshrined Palestinians as the “new Jews.” Support for Palestinian terror as “resistance” against Israel’s “structural violence” and against sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program is now customary.

In 2018, Israel revealed their list of 20 social justice groups from around the world it was henceforth banning from the country because of their support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. A rabbi on their staff– the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) was taken by surprise.  How can they attack Israel with the BDS yet had helped Jewish refugees after 1938?  It happens that today, BDS is as bad as bullets are.  

Dershowitz reminded Fisher that when Arabs speak to Arabs they say one thing, but while they speak to the West, they say another thing.  To his people, Hussein of Jordan said, "Kill the Jews wherever you find them.  Kill them with your hands, with your nails, with your teeth."  (That, coming from the more placid of Arab leaders-and it was quite brutal !)  Well, you know he wouldn't let the West know how he felt. 

We find that Palestinian Qassam rocket firings increase sharply on the day following the killing of Palestinians by Israel. In addition, we show that the probability of Palestinian killings of Israelis (although not the number of people killed) increases following the killing of Palestinians by Israel. Thus, it appears that Palestinian violence does contain an element of retaliation, and that Israeli military operations against Palestinians lead to escalation rather than incapacitation. Consistent with previous analyses, we confirm that Israeli aggression, too, contains an element of retaliation, in that Israel is more likely to kill Palestinians on days following killings of Israelis by Palestinians. Together, these findings suggest that, contrary to previous analyses that characterized Israeli violence alone as retaliatory, the dynamics of retaliation in the Second Intifada are bidirectional. During the May 2021 conflict in Gaza, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fired over 4,300 rockets at Israeli civilians. In August 2022, Palestinian Islamic Jihad fired over 1,100 rockets at Israelis during the three-day escalation, according to the Israel Defense Forces.May 13, 2023

May 15, 2023, I published this:  After 5 days of fighting, Israel agreed to a truce with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) early Sunday morning. In total, 1,139 rockets were fired into Israel and over 430 were intercepted. Most of the rest fell in open areas. The Iron Dome had a 95% success rate. The IDF struck 422 PIJ targets and eliminated at least 4 high ranking PIJ commanders. One Israeli woman and one Palestinian laborer were killed by the rocket fire. Over a dozen Israelis were injured. [Can you imagine the US agreeing to a truce with Al Qaida or ISIS?]

Intifada, also spelled intifadah, Arabic intifāḍah (“shaking off”), either of two popular uprisings of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip aimed at ending Israel's occupation of those territories and creating an independent Palestinian state.  However, when a meeting is scheduled, the Palestinians do not show up.                                

The First Intifada or First Palestinian Intifada, also known simply as the intifada or the intifadah, was a sustained series of protests and violent riots carried out by Palestinians in the Palestinian Territories and Israel. It was motivated by collective Palestinian frustration over Israel's military occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, as it approached a twenty-year mark, having begun after Israel's victory in the 1967 Arab–Israeli War. The uprising lasted from December 1987 until the Madrid Conference of 1991, though some date its conclusion to 1993, with the signing of the Oslo Accords.                          

The Second Intifada  was a major Palestinian uprising against Israel. The general triggers for the unrest are speculated to have been centred on the failure of the 2000 Camp David Summit, which was expected to reach a final agreement on the Israeli–Palestinian peace process in July 2000. Outbreaks of violence began in September 2000, after Ariel Sharon, then the Israeli opposition leader, made a provocative visit to the Al-Aqsa compound on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem; the visit itself was peaceful, but, as anticipated, sparked protests and riots that Israeli police had to put down with rubber bullets and tear gas.

The Third intifada?  Since the collapse of the second intifada—a large and sustained Palestinian uprising—in 2005, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has smoldered. Hamas has launched miniature wars in the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian armed groups and individuals have carried out terrorist attacks in the West Bank, prompting a harsh Israeli military response. Palestinians have resisted in other ways, too—marching, protesting, and throwing rocks. Despite many violent flare-ups, however, both sides have avoided fighting that reaches the scope and scale of the second intifada, even though a negotiated settlement seems more distant than ever.                                    

Fisher specialized in negotiation and conflict management. He was the co-author (with William Ury) of the book Getting to Yes, about "interest-based" negotiation, as well as numerous other publications. After serving in World War II as a weather reconnaissance pilot, Fisher worked on the Marshall Plan in Paris under W. Averell Harriman. After finishing his law degree at Harvard, he worked with the Washington, DC, law firm of Covington & Burling, arguing several cases before the US Supreme Court and advising on several international disputes. He returned to Harvard Law School and became a professor there in 1958. 

On April 4, 1977, President Anwar Sadat and his wife, Jehan, were welcomed to the White House by President and Mrs. Carter. Sadat was assassinated in 1981 by Islamic fundamentalists dissatisfied with Sadat concessions during the peace process. 

Throughout his career, Fisher made significant efforts to seek peace in the Middle East. Among these efforts included his involvement in Sadat's trip to Jerusalem and the Camp David summit that led to an Israeli–Egyptian peace treaty.In this latter case, he helped devise a process called the one-text, where a facilitator shuttled back and forth between the parties, refining a proposed document until it could not satisfy the parties interests more effectively at which point the parties either approve the document or agree to start from scratch. President Carter and Secretary of State Vance created 23 drafts in 13 days before they had a proposal to which both sides could say yes.

                                                 

Carter was not a president who stood up with Israel.  He wrote a book that shocked most of us:   Palestine:  Peace Not Apartheid.  He's very accusatory to Israel in it. Said of the book, "The general parameters of a long-term, two-state agreement are well known, the president writes. "There will be no substantive and permanent peace for any peoples in this troubled region as long as Israel is violating key UN resolutions, official American policy, and the international “road map” for peace by occupying Arab lands and oppressing the Palestinians. Except for mutually agreeable negotiated modifications, Israel’s official pre-1967 borders must be honored. As were all previous administrations since the founding of Israel, US government leaders must be in the forefront of achieving this long-delayed goal of a just agreement that both sides can honor."

Since the publication of former President Jimmy Carter's book, Palestine Peace Not Apartheid, the Carter Center has seen a wave of resignations. More than a dozen people have left in protest, saying the book puts too much blame on Israel. Carter could have been influenced by Fisher's outlook.

The downside is what  Dr. Eric Mandel, American, has noted;  in that most all Americans are not that interested in Israel and really don't understand what's happening. No, The case is FOR Israel.  Israel has the right to exist and to not be attacked, which it is constantly. Carter, former Sunday school teacher, and Fisher,  had pre-conceived ideas of Jews to start with, and were very misguided in their judgement if you ask me and (thank G-d), many others.

Brainwashing By Nazis and By Modern Politicians and what they Depend On

The term "brainwashing" was first used in English by Edward Hunter in 1950 to describe how the Chinese government appeared to make people cooperate with them during the Korean War. Research into the concept also looked at Nazi Germany, at some criminal cases in the United States, and at the actions of human traffickers. In the late 1960s and 1970s, the CIA's MKUltra experiments failed with no operational use of the subjects. Scientific and legal debate followed, as well as media attention, about the possibility of brainwashing being a factor when Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) was used,or in the conversion of people to groups which are considered to be cults.

The concept of brainwashing is not now generally accepted as a scientific fact. In casual speech, "brainwashing" and its verb form, "brainwash", are used figuratively to describe the use of propaganda to persuade or sway public opinion.

After WWI (1914-1917) Germany, beaten, was in an uproar. Hajj Mohammed Amin El- Husseini, mufti of Jerusalem and head of Supreme Moslem Council (1893-1974) had been organizing the Palestine disturbances.  He had gone to Hitler for a meeting before the war II had started asking for help with his plan to kill the Jews.  Hitler evidently would only commit to help after progress of his armies in Russia and North Africa who entered Poland in 1939 , but he explained to Husseini that the German conflict with Soviet bolshevism and English capitalism is in both instances a fight to the death between national Socialism (Germany) and the Jew.  He reassured the mufti that after eradicating the "Jewish element" in Europe, he would do so in the Middle East too.  One can see that Hitler, long committed to the annihilation of European Jewry (which had already begun before the meeting with the mufti), said that the extermination policy would be continuing.  

Hitler was having economic problems, and problems with Communism competition, but all along planning the demise of the Jewish people!  Anti-Semitism in Germany had become the worst since the Pope's decision in the 300s by Romans who saw Judaism competition for their new religion of Christianity. Repetition of seeing and hearing the prattle of the brain washing...that's what they use to win minds.   

When Nazi Party leader, Adolf Hitler, became German chancellor on January 30, 1933, no step-by-step blueprint for the genocide of Jews as a “race” existed that Hitler disclosed to the masses. However, his attitude towards Jews went right along with the population who held that belief as well.  

After the outbreak of World War II, millions of Jews came under Nazi control. Nazi policy extended from persecution to ghettoization and ultimately to systematic mass murder.  Mass murdering Jews started in 1941.

"From 1933 to 1939, Nazi leaders aimed to roll back the legal status German Jews had enjoyed since 1871 as full citizens."  German leaders, floundering, saw that Jews were terrific business-people.  They were making a profit and stayed in business while the rest of the population were unemployed and non-motivated workers. 

German Jews had served in WWI along with the Gentile population. In 1939 Jewish men were forced to scrub the streets.  Ferdinand Oster, b: 1881, put on his WWI uniform when he did it to show the Nazis how crazy they were, that Jews had been veterans like others, and that this is how they were being treated?  Eighty percent of the Jews in Germany (about 400,000 people) held German citizenship. The remainder were mostly Jews of Polish citizenship, many of whom were born in Germany and who had permanent resident status in Germany.  It did not move the population.  The brainwashing had done the deed.  Nazis had the population under their mind-control.  

 They sought to drive Jews from the economy and make life so difficult for Jews that they would leave Germany. During World War II (1939–1945) and especially after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, Nazi policy turned murderous. Larger numbers of Jews also fell under Nazi control as a result of German military conquests and alliances.

The Nazi persecution of Jews developed in several “stages” in Germany from 1933 to 1939. The Nazis used a combination of laws and decrees, propaganda, intimidation, and violence to segregate Jews from German society, remove them from the economy, and force them to leave the country.  Force them?  It was darn hard for the average German to get out.  My uncle by marriage got out finally in May 1939 and could not get anyone else in his family out.  They could only afford one as it was expensive.  He was selected as the family member to get out.  

Germany's society became immune to the fact that Jews were selected for the blame of their miseries.  It was just like in Syria with the Arabs even blaming their bad weather on the Jews that was going on in the 1990s.  My copy-cat theory was at work.  Mass thought-copying what's on the radio, newspaper and next-door neighbors' attitudes became a mass hysteria towards Jews.  It was a form of mind-control used by the Nazis, either accidently or purposely-brain washing. 

                    

Now skip to present day USA, and look at what is going on with our 2 political camps;  Democrats and Republican, polls showing 43% for each.  It's even for both parties.  Each group is asking how the other can be so stupid as to swallow the stories each group is stating.  

Tomorrow a presentation will hit the screen, if allowed, exposing Trump 's 4th indictment. Most of his followers have not become nauseated over his attempts to stay in power by any means.  They say he is not guilty of a thing, like he has been saying all along.  

Democrats are sickened, but their hero, Biden, is not as clean as a whistle.  He's also now being looked into.  He also has had Washington DC files in his house that were found, and now his son's business seems to have immersed with Biden's power as president--very impressive on one's resume, helping him to buy more drugs in that period.  They're probably cringing, after saying a lot about Trump and his manipulation tries.  

What we can take from all this is that no one turns out to be  perfect.  Even an honest Abe is hard to find these days and may have put their big toe or the whole foot in the waters testing it. Many Democrats and Republicans are considering voting for a 3rd party person, but that might just be giving the election to one of the two above.  They're in a quandary, weighing in the benefits and detriments.  

The closest man to perfection and honesty other than Honest Abe  looks like Jack Luman Smith.  Smith was born on June 5, 1969. He grew up in Clay, New York, a suburb of Syracuse. He graduated from Liverpool High School in 1987, where he played football and baseball. He then studied political science at the State University of New York at Oneonta, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude. Smith then attended Harvard Law School, from which he graduated in 1994 with a Juris Doctor, cum laude.  Dershowitz said Jack Smith left out a couple of words...not good.  

On May 7, 2018, Smith was named to a four-year term as chief prosecutor for the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, investigating war crimes in the Kosovo War including the case of Salih Mustafa. He took up the post on September 11, 2018, and was appointed to a second term on May 8, 2022, before stepping down on November 18, 2022.

On November 18, 2022, United States Attorney General, Merrick Garland, appointed Smith special counsel to oversee the criminal investigations into Donald Trump's actions regarding the January 6 U.S. Capitol attack, and Trump's handling and storage of government records, including classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. He worked initially from the Netherlands while recovering from a fractured leg, injured when he was struck by a scooter while cycling. By early January 2023, Smith had returned to the U.S.

The person selecting Smith was Garland, and Garland is considered a judicial moderate and a centrist. Garland has been described by Nina Totenberg and Carrie Johnson of NPR as "a moderate liberal, with a definite pro-prosecution bent in criminal cases".  On March 16, 2016, President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States to succeed Antonin Scalia, who had died one month earlier, so Garland was picked by Democrat President Obama.  

Being Smith had been out of the country dealing with worst of people, perhaps he has been more honest than most would be.  Let's hope.  The act of copy-catness, so prevelant in mind-control,  possibly hasn't rubbed off onto him.  

One who knows our  constitution like the back of his hand is Alan Dershowitz.  He's my man for that knowledge.  I wonder what he's thinking today?  Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz warned that former Attorney General Bill Barr is "dead wrong" on his assessment of the latest Trump indictment, arguing prosecutors will have to prove the former president knew and believed he lost the 2020 presidential election to prevail. Dershowitz joined "The Brian Kilmeade Show" on Thursday to discuss his previous legal predictions and why the Justice Department could be facing an uphill battle in proving Trump's alleged guilt in connection with the Jan. 6 charges.  He talks about the "Nixon Standard."  ALAN DERSHOWITZ: I predicted all four of the indictments. And I also predicted that the Hunter Biden plea bargain would not be accepted. The reason my predictions are correct and CNN's are always wrong is they're always wishful thinking. And mine is just based on my experience. I don't have a horse in the race. I just try to predict based on 60 years of doing this. 

Another thought:  Germans were never known to be traders or crafts workers.  They had been under Alexander the Great, the Greek and turned into them into his warriors since they had showed skill at it.  It was the Jews who were known traders, managers of money and finances.  It was in their genes, developed over time if genes can do that.  So, at least since the Roman period, Germans had been warriors fighting for others or even themselves.  As a result, surprisingly to them as well, no doubt, they lost WWI and WWII. What they did was not ethical-entering and attacking others' countries to gain land for themselves.  It's not right.  They did it in both wars.

Bribery Charges Against Three-Time Prime Minister Netanyahu

     In October 1998 we see  Netanyahu with President Bill Clinton, Arafat and King Hussein of Jordan during the Middle East Peace signing.  Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat signed an interim accord  that committed them afresh to exchange land and power for concrete steps to secure Israel from political violence. They agreed to commence in earnest next month the final stage of talks to resolve their national dispute. Netanyahu is exceptional, speaking English and debating the best and showing them up in defense of Israel.   

The accord cemented Netanyahu's commitment to territorial compromise with the Palestinians, a concept to which he led opposition in Israel until his election in 1996. On Arafat's part, it marked a new willingness to subject Palestinians to close verification of painful promises they have made before and failed to keep.

Israel's neighbor is pretty special. Hussein was the namesake of his paternal great-grandfather, Hussein bin Ali (Sharif of Mecca), the leader of the 1916 Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire, 

 Hussein bin Talal (Arabic: الحسين بن طلال,  14 November 1935 – 7 February 1999) was King of Jordan from 11 August 1952 until his death in 1999. As a member of the Hashemite dynasty, the royal family of Jordan since 1921, Hussein was a 40th-generation direct descendant of Muhammad.  They've gone through Black September when they fought against the Palestinians.  His son is today's king Abdullah II of Jordan and married a Palestinian.  The dynasty started with Abdullah, the grandfather.  However, they've been enemies, attacking Israel, and the result is that Hussein doesn't care for Netanyahu.  He probably wouldn't like any Israeli leader.                                                                                                                   

He had been called "the King of Israel" and "the great survivor": for a generation, Benjamin Netanyahu, or "Bibi," as he is popularly known, dominated Israeli politics. He's been elected PM 3 different times.   He's being attacked by his own court.  

Known for his combative style, the country's longest-serving leader played a key role in its drift to a more right-wing, nationalist outlook, pretty much ignoring Israel's religious history:  going more for the "here-this minute, how are we benefiting" outcomes... 

"Despite being further away from than ever from solving the conflict, [Mr Netanyahu] has just had four diplomatic agreements with Arab states, Israel has got better relations with the world and, prior to Covid, there was a decade of uninterrupted economic growth."

Benjamin Netanyahu's life is still controlled  by bribery charges meaning he is to have a court trial and possibly be found to be guilty.  Attorney General Gali Baharav Miyara and the state prosecution have stood fast against three judges’ advice for a plea deal in the 4000 file bribery charges against prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu. After the prosecution wound up its case, the district judges on the bench called defense and prosecuting council to tell them: “The good of the country calls for a plea accord.”

The AG has reluctantly summoned the prosecutors to a conference next month to reconsider the case for a plea bargain in view of the judges’ opinion. But they remain convinced that evidence for a conviction awaits when the defense witnesses take the stand.

The most damning charge of taking bribes is represented in the 4000 File. The judges are not satisfied with the prosecution case brought against the prime minister for allegedly granting regulatory benefits to Shaul Elovitch, of Bezeq telecommunications, in return for favorable coverage in one of his publications.

Shaul Elovitch (Hebrew: שאול אלוביץ'; born 1948) is an Israeli businessman and the owner of Eurocom Group, one of the largest private holding groups in Israel. He was born in 1948 in Poland and made aliyah to Israel when he was two years old. In December 2020, Elovitch, his son and former Bezeq director Or Elovitch; former secretary Linor Yochelman, the former CEO of Yes, Bezeq’s satellite TV subsidiary, Ron Eilon and former Yes CFO Mickey Naiman were indicted on charges of fraud, breach of trust, receiving illicit gifts and violations of the Securities Law. A substantial portion of the charges also concerned Bezeq subsidy Walla's favoritism towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  During Benjamin Netanyahu's corruption trial, a text message Elovitch sent to former Walla! CEO Ilan Yeshua in February 2015 was revealed where Shaul stated that he was having problems all day with Netanyahu, who he identified as “the big one.” Elovitch's wife Iris has been has also been charged with bribery.
In another of the charges against him, the prime minister freely admits receiving lavish gifts from well-heeled friends, while the prosecutors have yet to prove an illicit quid pro quo.

In 2019, Netanyahu was indicted in several charges of bribery, breach of trust and fraud. The case has dragged on since then. Those charges sparked three destabilizing national elections and mass demonstrations for the purpose of proving Netanyahu criminally corrupt and unfit to hold office. He was finally returned to power by election six months ago. 

Opposition leader Yair Lapid continues to declare him corrupt, unfit for office and heading for jail.

Was Yair leading the attack so that he could take over the Prime Minister position?  He then served as PM.  He served as the 14th Prime Minister of Israel from 1 July to 29 December 2022. He previously served as the Alternate Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2021 to 2022. Lapid is the chairman of the centrist Yesh Atid party, and Minister of Finance from 2013 to 2014.

Netanyahu consistently denies he is guilty of any wrongdoing and accuses the prosecution and his enemies of a conducting a witch hunt to bar him from holding office. If the prosecution persists in its objection to a plea or mediation deal, the Netanyahu trial could drag on for many more years. But if it is cut short by a deal, Netanyahu’s backers will certainly claim compensation for the financial, political and personal damage he has sustained..

  US defense lawyer Alan Dershowitz, who has been vocally supportive of Benjamin Netanyahu against public corruption charges and remained close to the presumed incoming prime minister over the years, told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday that Netanyahu should back off from a plan to override the Supreme Court.  The interview is one of a series in a clear public campaign by Dershowitz to convince Netanyahu how to handle the issue.  Although many different versions of what the plan might be have been floated in the media, the common denominator would be somehow reordering the country’s separation of powers to favor the Knesset over the Supreme Court much more than the way the law stands today.

Hasn't this been the plan that Netanyahu has since tried to carry out in the restructuring of the Supreme Court that has caused half the country to demonstrate against?  Dershowitz is always right on in identifying problematic situations.  

 JERUSALEM, March 27 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced increasing pressure on Monday to put the brakes on his government's drive to enact sweeping changes to the Israeli judiciary, with hundreds of thousands of protesters taking to the streets.

The courts overhaul plan has sparked unprecedented public anger since Netanyahu's coalition of hard-right and religious parties came to power late last year, and has also caused alarm among Israel's Western allies.
