Israel at a standstill for 2 minutes During Holocaust Day

JEWS WALKING TO THEIR DEATHS IN LITHUANIA AFTER BEING ROUNDED UP

Today, Tuesday the 14th is Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel.  A two-minute siren sounded across Israel at 10 a.m. today, bringing traffic and daily life to a standstill as the country paused in silence to honor the 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust on this Holocaust Remembrance Day. May their souls enjoy eternal peace in Heaven. Never Again.

Approximately six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. Poland suffered the highest losses, with an estimated 2.7 to 3 million deaths, followed by the Soviet Union with about 1.34 million. Other heavily impacted nations included Hungary (over 500,000), Romania (over 200,000), and Lithuania (approx. 130,000).

  • Germany: ~165,000
  • Netherlands: ~102,000
  • France: ~75,000 (approx. 25% of population)
  • Latvia: ~70,000
  • Yugoslavia: ~67,000
  • Greece: 58,800–65,000
  • Belgium: ~25,000 (45% of population)
  • Italy: ~7,858
  • Norway: At least 758

Book:  HOLOCAUST by Martin Gilbert: "The situation inside Germany made the search for escape even more urgent.  Every day, more Jews sought the escape of suicide.  On July 29, in Worms, Dr. Friedrich Gernsheim, a 66 year old physician, committed suicide together with his wife, Rosa. "p 64. This seems to come from 6 July 1938 at international conference at Evian, a French resort town on the shore of Lake Geneva where they were discussing future coming refugees.

My father's sister married a German Jew who managed to get out with his parent's help of giving him all their money for a ticket.  He left Germany in 1939, possibly the last Jew to get out.  He was to work and send for them, but the door closed behind him.  His parents and 16 year old sister died in the Holocaust.  The guilt caught up with him for being a survivor, and he suffered.  The 6 million died and those that survived had the story to tell, feelings they could not shake.
