Happy Hanukkah Since 165 BCE

Nadene Goldfoot

In Sderot , Israeli soldiers secure an area near the bodies of civilians killed by a Palestinian militant attack. .

Remembering from 165 BCE our victory in succeeding to fight for Freedom led by JUDAH MACCABEE over the immense Assyrian -Greek Empire who were trying to replace Judaism with the worship of idols.

And here we are, still fighting for freedom in 2023 CE.:  2,188 years later.  Remember October 7th.

        Our Hannukiah

                         Sufganiot (filled donuts)
                        More sufaniot

                         potato latkas

Gift giving comes in the form of Chanukah Gelt-or gifts for the 8 nights

Our remembrance commences today when we light our 1st candle to remember our re-dedication of the Temple to reclaim their sacred space.   They had enough oil for one night, and it lasted for 8 nights; which is why we light 8 candles over 8 nights. Because of the oil, we eat foods fried in oil-and no doubt olive oil is the best.
