Being my hobby is genealogy and history including DNA in my searches, I was interested more in Whoopie because I had many matches to my name on FTDNA with Goldberg. I was born in 1934, and I had also been brought up being told I was Jewish and that this was our religion. It was not like being an Italian-that is, being I was part Lithuanian and Swedish and English (turned out later to be Irish) descent. I can't find my reply to Whoopie which I have done a few days ago, but I explained on facebook that this was what we Jews were also told. It had nothing to do with the Holocaust, but what we HAD been brought up to believe. Since then, being into population genetics and the Torah, I see how we started as a family, then tribe of the 12 tribes, then of course it grew into a clan, and ultimately into the nation of Israel which was attacked in 70 CE and caused the dispersal of those Jews remaining alive in a bottleneck of our people. Whoopi was only saying what we had been told. Now I'm 90 1/2 years old and Whoopi is younger, of course, but it's probably what her mother told her.
Only a good DNA test can tell if Whoopi has any Jewish connection or not in her DNA. I hope she uses FTDNA. They're my favorite for research. Then send the results to Genesis. who research even a little deeper. I'm in there, too. She used Ancestry.

No, Whoopi, we Jews are not a race, but we started off being one with Jacob and his 2 wives and 2 other servants he married who also gave him 2 children each. So even in that family we were of mixed people originating in the town of Ur of the Euphrates River to the women in Egypt; and it was a mix. We include people of all races in our religion. The fact is that most people have been kept from intermarrying with Jews due to anti-Semitism and our own exclusion of marrying out of our religion! It's okay, really okay if they convert to Judaism and that's the case with lots of them. If DNA shows you have some Jewish genes, chances are from a Jewish man who married a Black woman which is a situation that happened on some occasions. We had Jewish men in Africa on trading excursions that wound up marrying Blacks so it could be a line of different Black tribes, even. Today, I've had a student in school who had a Jewish father and Black mother, and she was a mixture of races as many are today. Of course you've always known that Hitler was out to kill all Jews-and he meant (with incorrect here-say) that we were a race.
