Where Jews Of Israel Came From

 Nadene Goldfoot

The Merneptah Stele. While alternative translations exist, the majority of biblical archeologists translate a set of hieroglyphs as "Israel", representing the first instance of the name Israel in the historical record.  The name Israel first appears in the stele of the Egyptian pharaoh Merneptah c. 1209 BC, "Israel is laid waste and his seed is not." This "Israel" was a cultural and probably political entity of the central highlands, well enough established to be perceived by the Egyptians as a possible challenge to their hegemony, but an ethnic group rather than an organized state.  It had to reflect the period from King Saul-1st king of Israel (1030-1010 BCE) to David (1010-970 BCE)  to Solomon (961-920 BCE). Jewish dates are always off a little from basic dates by others as rabbis go by Tanakh (Bible).

With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob's family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all. Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father, Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time.

They stayed and were in Egypt for 400 years before returning to Canaan.
It took them 40 years to walk back from Egypt to Canaan with Moses and Joshua leading in order to move 603,550.  They ended with 601.730.

Moses led 6 million + Jews back to Canaan from slavery in Egypt

Jews lost 6 million in the Holocaust, mostly from Europe

The USA has about 6 million Jews, making 2% of their population.

Israel had in 2000 6,369,300 Jews in their population, up 2.82%.

Israel had in 2024  7.7 million million Jews which is 76.9% of their country.

New immigrants from North America to Israel

In 2024, Israel's population reached 10.027 million, with 76.9% identifying as Jewish or "other" (including non-Arab Christians and those without ethnicity listed), 21% as Arabs, and 2.1% as foreigners, marking a 1.1% growth, down from 1.6% in 2023.  It had been 6 million for some previous years.  They are making Aliyah;  new olim.

Since 1948, over 3 million Jews have immigrated to Israel, with a significant number coming from the United States, and in 2021, 4,000 US immigrants moved to Israel, the highest annual figure since 1973. My husband and I and many others from Russia moved to Israel in 1980.   I met people from England and Australia who were in our classes.  I had an American lady and her children next door to me in Safed in my building.

Resource:

Original Mandated Palestine where Jewish National Home was to be  reconstituted.  That's 120,456 Sq.Km or 46,508.3216 sq miles and since 1948 only wound up with from 8,000 to 10,000 sq miles of land on the west side of the Jordan River and lost Judea-Samaria; original homeland.

Why immigrate to Israel?  Since 70 CE when Romans had occupied and then taken over Jerusalem, burning down the Temple and city, Jews have been without a home of their own.  Hellenization had almost wiped them out by the Greeks earlier, then the Romans tried to Romanize them and change to believe in the Roman gods.  Jews have gone for 1,878 years without a home of their own, always living in other places, mostly as 2nd class citizens, being the brunt of anti-Semitism because our faith was not the same as the country were were in.  Being the Stiff Necked People, we have not relented as a whole people.  The Holocaust was the 1st major proof of how people felt about us, and now we see the Arabs actions on October 7th as the 2nd worst lesson to us.  We need our own, our original land with all our history more than ever.
