To Save a Life or Gas; How People Today Weigh Values

 Nadene Goldfoot

                     The line grows at Costco

Everyone in the USA are bemoaning the cost of their gas for their cars.  This is even hitting New York City where Zohran Mamdani is the mayor of New York City.  He was sworn in on January 1, 2026 and operates out of City Hall.

This city is one of the largest but possibly has the least amount of cars due to other available transportation, like subways which take so many to work.  Gas in New York City is currently averaging around $4.20 per gallon for regular unleaded, while premium costs roughly $4.73 per gallon.  Gas prices in NYC hit their lowest point in January 2026 , when the monthly average retail price for regular gasoline fell to $2.749 per gallon.

In early October 2023, just before October 7, the average price for regular gasoline in New York City was approximately \(\$3.54\) per gallon.   At that exact time in 2023, statewide averages for New York fluctuated between \(\$3.59\) and \(\$3.70\) per gallon . Premium fuel was hovering just over \(\$4.05\) per gallon.
Gas prices drove people at the election booth to vote for a Mamdani favorite of the same political persuasion of Democracy;  Democratic Socialism.   Mamdani endorsed in three competitive House primary matchups in New York City, breaking with Democratic leaders by throwing support behind leftist candidates who were unafraid to criticize Israel and push for ambitious economic policies.

Darializa Avila Chevalier: pro-Palestinian doctoral student steps into politics with ‘faith in the future’  Mamdani-backed candidate won New York’s 13th congressional district with no experience in office but ideas for how politics can ‘actually invest in life.’ I see her as Mamdani's choice since she is a pro-Palestinian Dominican-therefore against Israel.

No wonder The View today member, Sunny Hostin,  who has a background as a former lawyer.  Prior to her television career, she worked as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division and as a trial attorney in the Child Sex and Physical Abuse Crimes division.  Ever since I've watched The View, she has been against Israel.  Finding Sunny's many criticisms of Israel should be covering all the people voting along with Mamdani supporters.  So here goes:

Sunny Hostin's criticism of Israel stems from her focus on the humanitarian crisis, civilian casualties, and international human rights law. She is biracial, of Afro-Latina heritage, and identifies as a practicing Catholic.  She identifies as biracial, Black, and Puerto Rican, and uses the term Afro-Latina . Her heritage also includes a mix of white, Jewish (Sephardic from Spain) what %?, and African ancestry.
While her commentary has sparked backlash, she maintains that her opposition is directed at the Israeli government's military policies rather than the Jewish people, and I say the Jews in USA/NYC since Israel is a Jewish country.  Criticize one and you are criticizing both.  There must be a few Jews in the USA that have a good understanding of Israel's plight.
Hostin, a co-host on ABC's The View , has frequently discussed the Middle East conflict through the lens of human rights and international law. Her specific stances and the reasons behind them include the following that I personally have written defense position about; going into the fact that Hezbollah and Hamas do not do a thing to protect their people but that the worst only adds ammunition to use against Israel:
  • 1. Focus on Civilian Casualties: Hostin frequently emphasizes the high death toll of Palestinians in Gaza, particularly women and children, often referring to the situation as a humanitarian crisis . She has argued that her advocacy is meant to give a "voice to the voiceless" in conflict zones . Even the numbers they use are inflated to make Israel look bad.  Israel does numerous acts to keep from killing people when engaged in warfare;  more than any other country.
  • 2. International Law Arguments: She has openly criticized Israel's military strikes and blockades, accusing the government of committing war crimes under international law—specifically citing the collective punishment of civilians and attacks in densely populated areas. They gather in such places on purpose to do exactly what Sunny charges:  Terrorists are out for themselves, not their people.
  • 3. Support for Anti-War Protests: Hostin has defended student and pro-Palestinian demonstrations on U.S. college campuses, arguing that many participants are engaging in anti-war advocacy and exercising their free speech rather than expressing antisemitism. Task Force Findings: A scathing report from Harvard’s Presidential Task Force revealed that Jewish students experienced bias, suspicion, alienation, and exclusion in both curricular and co-curricular spaces .Harvard's task force reports on antisemitism found pervasive anti-Jewish and anti-Israeli bias surged following the October 7, 2023 attacks . In response to the hostile campus climate, intense protests, and resulting federal lawsuits , the university apologized, reached legal settlements, and committed to ongoing reforms to disciplinary and academic structures .
  • 4. Separating Government from Faith: In response to viewers who have accused her of antisemitism, Hostin has stated publicly that criticizing the Israeli government and its military operations is not inherently anti-Semitic. Attacking Israel crosses into antisemitism when the criticism uses classic anti-Jewish tropes, denies the Jewish people the right to self-determination, or holds Jewish individuals collectively responsible for the actions of the Israeli government. However, harshly criticizing the specific policies or actions of the Israeli government is not inherently antisemitic, but remember, it is made up of a good 80% Jews.
Hostin's debate style and pointed criticisms on the show have generated varied reactions. Critics argue that her focus disproportionately singles out Israel and ignores the complexities of the broader conflict, including the actions of Hamas and Hezbollh and other terrorists . Supporters, on the other hand, view her comments as necessary pushback against wartime policies and a defense of innocent populations caught in the conflict. (It could be much worse if by other countries !!)  Israel is fighting a defensive battle against people who want to wipe her off the map who have an extensive population of terrorists to use against Israel.
The biggest upset of the night came in New York's 13th district, where Mamdani-backed candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, a 32-year-old community organizer and democratic socialist, narrowly defeated five-term incumbent Democrat Adriano Espaillat, 71, to represent Upper Manhattan and part of the Bronx. That's according to a race call by The Associated Press. Darializa Avila Chevalier is a working-class Afro-Latina organizer, UAW member, and the daughter of Dominican immigrants who has spent years fighting for her community in upper Manhattan.
Espaillat, who was the first Dominican-American elected to Congress and chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, had a slew of endorsements from powerful elected Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
So Mamdani has cut the Democrats in half as I see it; one being Democrat Socialists.  As for moral values;  gas prices have won out over the lives of Israelis.  People hate them, the victims of terrorists,  and praise those people who attack them, the Palestinians out of which are the terrorists.

Sponsors Wanting to Fire Whoopi and Joy From The VIEW

 Nadene Goldfoot

"During the Tuesday, March 4 episode of The View," Whoopie "Goldberg and her colleagues—which include Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin—were joined by former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre while discussing the ongoing discourse surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) hiring practices, "      like differences in gender, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class.   skills, experience, education, and skills, which are more fluid and can develop and evolve over time. They want fairness in all ways, even in the quality of the candidate, not their background or how they look.  People may be surprised that a person who is the wildest looking has the best skills of all the candidates they ever interview.  Of course, some jobs depend on how the worker looks for the benefit of the business.  It's quite a call.

Thinner Whoopi at the 2025 Oscars

Now I've seen on TV that she her job is threatened because her sponsors don't like what she and Joy Behar have  said.  I saw her break down and cry in one scene."  It was over the topic of inclusion.  "We are not our great-grandparents. We are not our grandparents. We are of 2025," the Sister Act star declared. "We are not the women that were in the 1950s. This is 2025, and we’re not going anywhere."  "Goldberg's passionate message comes just one day after she issued an emphatic plea to viewers in regard to Trump and JD Vance's recent Oval Office argument with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, " which I also saw and agreed with.  I had watched that very carefully.

Once before, I was in full agreement with Whoopie over the Jewish people, and I am one of them being Jewish, and a defender and hold dual citizenship of Israel/USA.  Only what I had read and what is in another article is different.  "(JTA) — Whoopi Goldberg apologized for upsetting people by starting a debate on Monday over whether the Holocaust was “about race,” writing that she is “sorry for the hurt I have caused.”

Born Caryn Elaine Johnson, Goldberg has no Jewish ancestry' (that she knows of) (not having a FTDNA DNA test) " but says she adopted her stage name to be deliberately Jewish-sounding, in part because she has said she personally identifies with Judaism.  She told a London audience in 2016, “I just know I am Jewish. I practice nothing. I don’t go to temple, but I do remember the holidays.”  This is not unlike what many Reformed Jewish descendants are going through today.

                                              Different Races of Jews

Being my hobby is genealogy and history including DNA in my searches, I was interested more in Whoopie because I had many matches to my name on FTDNA with Goldberg.  I was born in 1934, and I had also been brought up being told I was Jewish and that this was our religion.  It was not like being an Italian-that is, being I was part Lithuanian and Swedish and English (turned out later to be Irish) descent.  I can't find my reply to Whoopie which I have done a few days ago, but I explained on facebook that this was what we Jews were also told.  It had nothing to do with the Holocaust, but what we HAD been brought up to believe.  Since then, being into population genetics and the Torah, I see  how we started as a family, then tribe of the 12 tribes, then of course it grew into a clan, and ultimately into the nation of Israel which was attacked in 70 CE and caused the dispersal of those Jews remaining alive in a bottleneck of our people.  Whoopi was only saying what we had been told.  Now I'm 90 1/2 years old and Whoopi is younger, of course, but it's probably what her mother told her.

Only a good DNA test can tell if Whoopi has any Jewish connection or not in her DNA.  I hope she uses FTDNA.  They're my favorite for research.  Then send the results to Genesis.  who research even a little deeper.  I'm in there, too.   She used Ancestry.

Whoopi Goldberg's DNA testing revealed that she is 92% sub-Saharan African and 8% European. She also discovered that she is descended from the Papel and Bayote tribes of Guinea-Bissau. Goldberg used DNA testing to learn about her ancestry in 2007. The results of her DNA test were revealed on the PBS genealogy show Finding Your Roots" which gives excellent results. The show's host, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., announced that Goldberg is a DNA cousin of former NFL player Tony Gonzalez. "

" I watch his show all the time when I see it on youtube, and am sad that he didn't mention any

connection to Jewish people wasn't found, so she should send these

results to FTDNA

and see what people she matches in that European grouping.

No, Whoopi, we Jews are not a race, but we started off being one with Jacob and his 2 wives and 2 other servants he married who also gave him 2 children each.  So even in that family we were of mixed people originating in the town of Ur of the Euphrates River to the women in Egypt;  and it was a mix.  We include people of all races in our religion.  The fact is that most people have been kept from intermarrying with Jews due to anti-Semitism and our own exclusion of marrying out of our religion!  It's okay, really okay if they convert to Judaism and that's the case with lots of them.  If DNA shows you have some  Jewish genes, chances are from a Jewish man who married a Black woman which is a situation that happened on some occasions.  We had Jewish men in Africa on trading excursions that wound up marrying Blacks so it could be a line of different Black tribes, even.  Today, I've had a student in school who had a Jewish father and Black mother, and she was a mixture of races as many are today.    Of course you've always known  that  Hitler was out to kill all Jews-and he meant (with incorrect here-say) that we were a race.

Quite frankly, I feel that they have more spots of ads than they allow Whoopi and her girls to chat.  I hate all those ads interrupting their hot discussions.  Yes, I know they collect the money for the show with those ads, but do they really need so many taking up so much time?  Yuck!  I leave the room then.

Two Regular Republicans on the View: Griffin and Navarro and Where they Stand

 Nadene Goldfoot

Griffin and Navarro: Regular Republicans on The View, ABC.
Alyssa Griffin nee Farah 34, was born on June 15, 1989, in Los Angeles. Her father, Joseph Farah, is a journalist of Syrian and Lebanese descent who was executive news editor at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner before moving to Northern California to become editor of The Sacramento Union in 1990.  She's recently married Justin Griffin, about 2 years ago.  In 2020, Griffin became engaged to Justin Griffin, a graduate of the New York University Stern School of Business and a grandson of Samuel A. Tamposi. They were married in November 2021. In 2022, Griffin revealed on The View that members of her family, including her father and step-mother, boycotted her wedding because of her differences with Trump.

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC's “The View” has named two Republicans — Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro — as regular panelists on the daytime talk show, and neither are fans of former President Donald Trump.  I watch when I can and have never realized that Ana was a Republican, though I know that Alyssa certainly is.  She has been on the front lines in Washington Republican   and  as  and Assistant to the President in 2020 during the presidency of Donald Trump. Griffin appears on CNN as a political commentator and is also a co-host of the daytime talk show The View for its 26th season.

Griffin was press secretary for U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and Special Assistant to President Donald Trump from October 2017 to September 2019. In 2019, she was appointed the youngest press secretary of The Pentagon in history. She served as Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and the Press Secretary for the United States Department of Defense from 2019 to 2020.

Donald Trump launched a verbal attack at his former White House staffer  calling her a “sleazebag,” “loser” and a “backbencher,” in a post to Truth Social Saturday.  Griffin had defended  the town hall special which exposed him as radioactive for independents and moderates-and lost him votes. “America got to see who he is last night: a ranting, raving lunatic, who sided with Vladimir Putin,’ Griffin said of her former boss.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of “The View,” slammed Kanye West for making anti-Semitic remarks on Friday and sternly stated that the Holocaust “could happen again” if the public doesn’t speak out against such vile remarks.  Griffin referred to Kanye West as a “moron” after the rapper made a bizarre appearance with white nationalist Nick Fuentes on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ “Infowars” on Thursday. Throughout the bizarre episode, West, who had a black hood covering his entire face, praised Adolf Hitler and babbled about anti-Semitic conspiracies.

Ana Violeta Navarro-Cárdenas (née Navarro Flores; born December 28, 1971) 52,  is a Nicaraguan-American political strategist and commentator. She appears on various television programs and news outlets, including CNN, CNN en Español, ABC News, and Telemundo. She is also a co-host of the daytime talk show The View, garnering Emmy Award nominations for her work. She is a member of the Republican Party.

Both ladies have one thing in common with the others on the panel;  they all are against Trump.

Ana admitted to having Sephardic and Ashkenazi ancestors when speaking to a Jewish group, ADL.   She addressed the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) National Leadership Summit in Washington, DC on Monday night..  He’s (Donald Trump)  been good for Israel. Okay, I am done. I should also tell you… I am Ashkenazi Jewish — and Sephardic. And I am also the descendant of slaves, and Hispanic. So basically, Donald Trump has offended all of me, every single part of me. I ended up having an unbroken DNA thread with Amy Schumer, which means I am also a distant cousin of Chuck Schumer. Oy!”  Looks like my gal has taken a DNA test!  Good for her!

Schumer was born on June 1, 1981, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City, New York, to Sandra Jane (née Jones) and Gordon David Schumer, who owned a baby-furniture company. Schumer's father was born to a Jewish family from Ukraine. She is a second cousin of U.S. Senator and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Wow!  I'm related to one male and one female Schumer (not Ana) and one female Navarro,  but...The three are all my 4th to distant cousins.  They do not share genes with each other, either.   My brother shares my Schumers and is connected to another male, too, and a different Navarro female, widening the cousins we connect to of Schumer and Navarro.
