What Roles of FBI in USA and Israel Are To Do For Us

 Nadene Goldfoot

Republican Kashyap Pramod "Kash" Patel, age 45 (born February 25, 1980) is an American lawyer and former federal prosecutor serving as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation since February 20, 2025.  Kashyap Pramod Patel's (Kash Patel) family came from the village of Bhadran in the Anand district of Gujarat, India. His father, Pramod Patel, was of Indian descent and Ugandan born. Pramod and his family were expelled from Uganda by Idi Amin in 1972 due to ethnic persecution. They briefly returned to India while applying for asylum in the United States, the UK, and Canada, eventually settling in the U.S.

He also served as acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from February to April 2025. Suddenly we find that Kash Patel is our FBI Director.  We hadn't heard his name before.
The job of FBI is:  The FBI's role is to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution. They do this by investigating and preventing federal crimes, gathering intelligence, and assisting other law enforcement agencies. Their primary priorities include protecting the nation from terrorism, foreign intelligence operations, and cyber threats, as well as combating public corruption, civil rights violations, and white-collar crime.

As we read, we ask ourselves, is Kash upholding his position as Director of FBI or has
he changed its goals?

Kash Patel, a one-time aide to President Donald Trump, has been confirmed by the US Senate to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Patel, a former defence department chief of staff and ex-federal prosecutor, is a staunch Trump supporter and a fellow critic of the US government's top law enforcement agency.

He was confirmed in a party line vote of 51-49, with only two Republicans joining all Democrats against him, citing concerns over his qualifications to lead the agency and claiming that he will pursue retribution against critics of Trump.

Patel has previously suggested dramatically limiting the authority of the FBI, which Republicans allege has unfairly targeted conservatives in recent years.

In a dramatic turn during the U.S. House Budget Hearing on the Fiscal Year 2026 request for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI Director Kash Patel delivered a shocking testimony that sent ripples through Capitol Hill. Patel’s statements raised serious concerns about internal agency operations, budget allocations, and political interference. Lawmakers were visibly stunned as Patel made bold revelations, challenging critics’ narratives. The testimony quickly became a flashpoint in the ongoing debate over the FBI’s role, funding, and impartiality in politically sensitive investigations.

It was on August 13, 2022, WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate sent reverberations across the country, even before court papers were unsealed Friday showing agents recovered documents labeled “top secret” as they investigated potential violations of three laws, including one that governs defense information under the Espionage Act.  On August 13, 2022, the FBI Director was Christopher A. Wray. He had been appointed to the position in 2017 and was still in office at that time.  Again to remind us, President Donald Trump nominated Christopher Wray to be FBI Director. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 30, 2017, taking over from James Comey.

The last FBI Director getting attention was  Republican Christopher Wray, head of FBI by George Bush, who served from August 2, 2017, to January 20, 2025.  Republican Kash Patel officially replaced Wray by Republican Donald Trump on February 20, 2025, according to ABC   News.  Trump had picked Wray.  In selecting Mr. Wray, Mr. Trump believed he had found the antithesis of the F.B.I. director he had just fired, James B. Comey. The president derided Mr. Comey as a “showboat” and chafed at the F.B.I.’s investigation into his 2016 campaign and its possible ties to Russia.

Republican James Brien Comey Jr. born December 14, 1960) is an American lawyer who was the seventh director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 2013 until his termination in May 2017. Comey was a registered Republican for most of his adult life but in 2016 he stated he was unaffiliated.

Wray served, but had no noteriety like Kash.  The FBI Director before Christopher Wray was James Comey. Comey served as director from September 4, 2013, until May 9, 2017, when he was terminated.

Andrew George McCabe (born March 18, 1968--now  age 57is an American attorney who served as the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from February 2016 to March 2018 and as the acting Director of the FBI from May 9, 2017, to August 2, 2017, appointed by Donald Trump.  McCabe later departed from the FBI on poor terms with Trump. After leaving the Trump administration, McCabe has been a contributor at CNN since 2019

Following Comey's termination, Andrew McCabe served as acting director before Wray's appointment. In September 2013, Barack Obama appointed Wray. He had replaced Robert Mueller.  James Comey was fired by President Donald Trump on May 9, 2017. Comey served as the seventh director of the FBI. His dismissal followed criticism over his handling of the Hillary Clinton email controversy and the FBI's investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

                          Cary Gleicher

The position of FBI director in Israel is not explicitly held by a single individual in the way a director might be in the United States. Instead,

the FBI's presence in Israel is led by a legal attaché. Currently, that position is held by Cary Gleicher according to the FBI's websiteHe oversees the FBI's work in Israel, which focuses on partnerships and investigations, while respecting the sovereign rights of the country.  Cary Gleicher is a former Senior FBI Official and today serves as an Associate at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) at Reichman University, Herzliya, Israel. Cary was born and raised in New York City.  In 2017, the FBI’s top attaché to Israel, Cary Gleicher, met with FBI Director James Comey in Washington on March 6 to discuss an ongoing investigation into a series of bomb threats that shook Jewish community centers across the United States.
