How the Iraq and Syrian Nuclear Reactors Were Destroyed and Carter's Position About Israel

In public, all 3 leaders had to smile.  Off camera, Carter was writing a book condemning Israel.  It was called Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, and  was a New York Times Best Seller book written by 39th President of the United States Jimmy Carter. It was published by Simon & Schuster in November 2006. 

    The Israeli air force destroyed the Osirak nuclear reactor, outside Baghdad, June 7, 1981, inaugurating the Begin Doctrine, which stipulated that Israel would never allow its enemies to attain nuclear weapons.

 Menachem Begin, 6th PM of Israel,  authorized the bombing of the Osirak nuclear plant in Iraq. He was Prime Minister from 21 June 1977 to 10 October 1983.Jimmy Carter was the US president from January 20, 1977 to January 20, 1981. Ronald Reagan was then president from 1981 to 1989.Osirak was hit after only 4 months into his first term.  

Former President Jimmie Carter was not a fan of Israel.  He criticized Israel's attack on Iraq's Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981 without mentioning that it was the site of Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons program, that Iran had already attacked the site the year before, and that the UN had failed to take any action to prevent Iraq from acquiring nuclear weapons.  Carter also failed to mention that Iraqi leaders had said that the nuclear bombs Iraq planned to build were specifically intended for use against Israel alone.  Throughout his time in office, Carter continued to omit important facts that would redeem Israel.  Instead, he attacked this tiny Jewish state, the only one in the world. 

His "Holy Land " knowledge is mostly what he teaches in his Sunday school classes, if you ask me.  He shows no knowledge of why it is important to the Jewish people.  

His book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid is a New York Times Best Seller book written by 39th President of the United States Jimmy Carter. It was published by Simon & Schuster in November 2006.  It is an indictment against Israel's very being, starting with the title with the accusation of practicing apartheid which is a lie that Israel's defenders have been fighting and proving that it is a lie.  President Carter, who was able to negotiate peace between Israel and Egypt, has remained deeply involved in Middle East affairs since leaving the White House. He has stayed in touch with the major players from all sides in the conflict and has made numerous trips to the Holy Land (he can't say "Israel?"), most recently as an observer in the Palestinian elections of 2005 and 2006.

In this book, President Carter shares his intimate knowledge of the history of the Middle East.  His knowledge must be warped, in my opinion,  probably due to the writers he has chosen and his personal experiences with the principal actors to come up with such conclusions,  

 He addresses sensitive political issues many American officials avoid.  Pulling no punches, Carter prescribes steps that must be taken for the two states to share the Holy Land without a system of apartheid or the constant fear of terrorism.  What does he think Israel has been doing?  The difference is that Israel is not leaving.  Carter and the Palestinians will have to accept them and their return home.

The general parameters of a long-term, two-state agreement are well known, the president writes. There will be no substantive and permanent peace for any peoples in this troubled region as long as Israel is violating key UN resolutions, official American policy, and the international “road map” for peace by occupying Arab lands and oppressing the Palestinians.  In other words, he's against Israel.  In his eyes, Palestinian Arabs have done no wrong.  He has set the goal for other anti-Semites to follow to this day.  

Except for mutually agreeable negotiated modifications, Israel’s official pre-1967 borders must be honored under his plan. Netanyahu explained on public TV why this is impossible today, as were all previous administrations since the founding of Israel, US government leaders must be in the forefront of achieving this long-delayed goal of a just agreement that both sides can honor.  It's been realized that there will never be peace unless both sides agree to a plan.  The US cannot force an agreement.  Who does Carter think he was?  The Romans, maybe?  

With Jimmy Carter,  it is always  Israel's fault.  Jimmy Carter says that if only Israel ended the occupation, there would be peace.  What occupation?  Israel never occupied.  It was the Romans who occupied their land of Judah and then burned it down in the year 70 CE.  All this time Jews have been living in in other people's lands, usually as 2nd class citizens.  When WWI was about over, and the Ottoman Empire, which oversaw Palestine was on the Axis side, Jews discussed their case for return to their land with the Allies. Many Jews already had been living in Palestine, just like some Arabs.  Jews did everything legal.  In fact, it was the English in the end that stiffed the Jews by giving away 80% of the promised Holy Land to a Saudi prince who was in search of a land to rule, and they gave it to prince Abdullah of Arabia.  Thus we now have Jordan. 

Every step has been under the UN ruling and Israel's legal ruling.  This land as you call the Holy Land is our land originally,, and your people have been stiffing Jewish people once too many times.  Now you've gone and let the Palestinians have almost 50% of our 20% of land, calling it the West Bank (Jordan's renaming of Judea and Samaria).That would have been fine had they not been attacking Jews every day, killing, maiming, running into them with cars, using knives, rockets, missiles, mortars. They don't hide their intentions.  It's out in the open.  Kartoum's conference said it all.  No peace, No recognition, No  negotiations.  This "warning" was reinforced on October 21, when an Egyptian missile boat sunk the Israeli destroyer Eilat, killing 47 people. It was confirmed in November and December, when the Arab states repeatedly rebuffed attempts by Sweden's ambassador to the Soviet Union, Gunnar Jarring — serving as the U.N. secretary general's special envoy - to induce them to join talks with Israel. In fact, the "three no's of Khartoum" held for a dozen years, until Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel — at which point the other 20 member states expelled it from the Arab League.

Operation Opera (Hebrew: מבצע אופרה), also known as Operation Babylon, was a surprise airstrike conducted by the Israeli Air Force on 7 June 1981, which destroyed an unfinished Iraqi nuclear reactor located 17 kilometres (11 miles) southeast of Baghdad, Iraq. 

The Israeli operation came after Iran's partially successful Operation Scorch Sword had caused minor damage to the same nuclear facility a year prior, with the damage having been subsequently repaired by French technicians. 

Operation Opera, and related Israeli government statements following it, established the Begin Doctrine, which explicitly stated the strike was not an anomaly, but instead "a precedent for every future government in Israel".                                   

 Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti was an Iraqi politician who served as the fifth president of Iraq from 16 July 1979 until 9 April 2003. He was behind the Iraq reactor.  Carter was the US president from 1977 to 1981.  The execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein took place on 30 December 2006 by US seals under Obama.

      Netanyahu is the Iranian missile's target.

Carter also failed to mention that Iraqi leaders had said that the nuclear bombs Iraq planned to build were specifically intended for use against Israel alone.  

Especially Iran, who themselves had also attacked Iraq's nuclear reactor  in the making, knew what Israel would do in the future to any state that tried to rub them out.  Yet they have had the chutzpa to go ahead and try it.                                                  

It was  Sayyid Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini  17 May 1900 – 3 June 1989), better known as Ayatollah Khomeini, that was an Iranian political and religious leader who served as the first supreme leader of Iran from 1979 until his death in 1989. He was behind the Iranian attack of the reactor. Iran and Iraq held a war that lasted almost 8 years.

Twenty-six years later, on September 6, 2007, the Begin Doctrine was put into effect again when IAF aircraft destroyed a Syrian nuclear reactor in a remote desert location, underscoring Jerusalem's continued resolve to fend off all existential threats, come what may.  Operation Outside the Box, also known as Operation Orchard, was an Israeli airstrike on a  nuclear reactor with a military purpose, referred to as the Al Kibar site, in the Deir ez-Zor region of Syria, which occurred just after midnight on 6 September 2007. The attack reportedly followed Israeli top-level consultations with the Bush Administration. After realizing that the US was not willing to bomb the site after being told so by U.S. President George W. Bush, 

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert decided to adhere to the 1981 Begin Doctrine and unilaterally strike to prevent a Syrian nuclear weapons capability, despite serious concerns about Syrian retaliation. On 22 March 2018, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officially took responsibility for destroying a nuclear reactor built in the northeastern Syrian province of Deir al-Zor in 2007 after a decade of ambiguity. Surely, the world governments  knew who did it, after knowing about the Begin Doctrine.  Who else?  

We all know that Donald Trump was in office when the Abraham Accords were fulfilled.  The Abraham Accords are a joint statement between the State of Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, reached on August 13, 2020.

The Abraham Accords expanded and are now a series of treaties normalizing diplomatic relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco, facilitated by the U.S. Administration[1] between August and December, 2020. In the span of five short months, these four Arab states joined Egypt and Jordan in making peace with Israel. The agreements were called “The Abraham Accords” in honor of Abraham - the patriarch of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  Now, what does Jimmy Carter say about this?  Saudi Arabia is in the plans, and at least the situation with them has improved a little.  Israeli planes can fly over their air space.                                      

 But has Jimmy Carter ever praised the Abraham Accords, asked algemeiner?                     

While the Carter Center has issued plenty of articles about Israel, most of them critical, the term “Abraham Accords” is not mentioned. I couldn’t find a thing on their website about the peace agreements between Israel and Morocco, Sudan, Bahrain, or the UAE.

This seems odd, since Carter positions himself as a champion of Middle East peace.

It isn’t hard to guess why, however. The Abraham Accords violated the primary rule of “peacemakers” since Oslo — that no Arab nation would make peace with Israel until the Palestinian issue was resolved. According to this worldview, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was the core of instability in the Middle East.  (It's the Arab nations who have been stiffed by the Palestinians.  They dole out money each year and are not getting their bang for the buck.  They're paying for constant warring with Israel).  

All of the arguments about why the Abraham Accords were useless have been proven wrong in the year since they were signed.  Between Trump and his son in law, Jared Kushner, they accomplished the impossible.  Maybe the timing was just right?  Also, the threat over their heads of Iran taking over the Muslim world had a lot to do with the timing.

Now Iran has been threatening Israel by repeating what Iraq had done, wanting to destroy Israel with nuclear bombs and what Israel had done, also hitting a nuclear reactor of Iraq's.   The Begin Doctrine still stands.  As Iran has stated that they want to drive Israel into the sea, so Israel has warned all people how they will defend themselves.  

Israel has reason to believe their accusations and threats.  The Iranian leaders’ quest is to destroy Israel.

"Despite the sheer volume of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic statements emanating from the country’s two supreme leaders in the 43 years since the Islamic revolution in Iran, the notion that Tehran’s Islamist rulers seek the destruction of Israel has often been caveated, belittled, or politically recast by other nations.

Perhaps most famous is the case of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who called for Israel’s destruction in 2005 when paraphrasing a line from the founding father of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Quite literally, Ahmadinejad said, “The occupying regime of Jerusalem must be disappeared from the page of time.” His quote became the subject of a translation controversy and political debate following its popularly rendered but more figurative translation as calling for Israel to be “wiped off the map”—which not just American, but Iranian state-run English-language outlets employed.

To Be a Jew in Poland or Lithuania: Spotlight on Lazdijai (Lazdey)

The territory that would become the Pale first began to enter Russian hands in 1772, with the First Partition of Poland. The institution of the Pale became more significant following the Second Partition of Poland in 1793, since, until then, Russia's Jewish population had been rather limited. The dramatic westward expansion of the Russian Empire through the annexation of Polish-Lithuanian territory substantially increased the Jewish population. At its height, the Pale had a Jewish population of over five million, and represented the largest component (40 percent) of the world Jewish population at that time.                                        

             A rare picture of Polish Jewish children--On July 30th, 1933, a delegation of members of the French Union of World War I Veterans embarked upon a tour of the cities of Poland.  This picture wound up in one of their scrapbooks.  

Lazdijai is a little town on the border between Lithuania and Poland. It's in Lithuania, about 7 km (4.3 mi) east of the border with Poland.  

The town of Lazdijai, or Lazdey in Yiddish, was part of the Polish Lithuanian Kingdom until 1795, then were caught in the 3rd partition by the 3 superpowers;  Russia, Prussia and Austria.  The result was that Lithuania became partly Russian and partly Prussian.  Lazdey, on the left side of the Nieman River, was handed over to Prussia that ruled during 1795-1807.  It had been created by the king of Poland, King Zigmunt II in August of 1570 and the Jews were granted the Magdeburg Rights in 1579 as well as permission to maintain a weekly market and 2 yearly fairs. During Prussian rule, Lazdey became the county administrative center.

By 1807, Napoleon defeated Prussia (a former German State), and everyone got equal civil rights except the Jews. 

1815 saw Napoleon defeated and all of Lithuania was annexed to Russia.  

In 1827, Lazdey had a population of 1,988 people living in 272 houses.  My paternal great grandparents were among them.  Lazdey was included in the Augustowa Province (Gubernia) and by 1866 became part of the Suwalk Gubernia as a country administrative center.  All during its existence, Lazdey suffered from many fires.

          "Gaon" from Vilna;(Rabbi Eliyahu (1720-1797) 

3. Yehudah-Leib, son of the famous Rabbi Eliyahu, Gaon of Vilna

 4, Hayim-Yehoshua HaCohen Blumental from 1853 for several years; There was a Nissen Blumenthal (1805-1903)Cantor in Odessa in 1841 for 55 years.  

5. Yosef-Mosheh Aranzon [Aaronson ?](1805-1875), died in Chicago;  

6.Tsevi-Hirsh Kahana; 

7. Yehudah-Leib Ginsburg; 

8. Avraham-Eliver Yaffe (1823-1908) in Lazdey 1873-74;

Lazdey Jews left for Eretz Yisrael before a Zionist movement started.  In the old cemetery of Jerusalem there lie a3 tombstones of Lazdey Jews:  Gershon son of Moshe-d:in 1910;  Reuven son of Yehudah Frid, d: 1895;  Hayah daughter of Rabbi Yudl Rosh HaGalil, d: 1897.  

My paternal grandmother, Zlata Goldfoot nee Jermulowski/e was born in 1886 in Lazdey. She's buried in Portland, Oregon.   

The independent state of Poland established after world War I in 1917 attempted to protect its minorities, but its attitude toward the Jews left much to be desired The economic position of its Jews deteriorated as the new Polish middle-class tended to push them out of trade, handicrafts and industry.  Lazdey was surrounded by Jewish farms and farmers till WWI.  Many families kept vegetable gardens behind their houses.  

On April 1, 1915, Lazdey Jews were exiled into Russia by order of the retreating Russian army.  After the war, most of them returned home and found that their property had been stolen.  This had been shocking as the Jews were kept in the Pale of Settlement for years by the 2 Catherine empresses and were not allowed into Russia proper.  The Pale of Settlement included all of modern-day Belarus, Lithuania and Moldova, much of Ukraine and east-central Poland, and relatively small parts of Latvia and western Russian Federation.  

In 1919, the Polish army took over in Lazdey, but was expelled after several days.  Lazdey remained inside the border of Lithuania, but the district administrative center, Seyny, was included in Poland.  Today, all my paternal grandmother, Zlata Goldfoot nee Jermulowski's records are in Poland.  My grandmother insisted that she was a Litvak, however.  She immigrated to the US from Lazdijai, Suwalki, Poland in 1903.

By 1938, 300,000 Jewish men were unemployed and emigration continued on a large scale.  395,223 Jews left Poland from 1921 to 1937.                                                   

In 1939, when the Germans invaded Poland, 3 million Jews were living in Poland.  Under Nazi occupation, they practiced wholesale massacre of Jews.  Ghettos were set up in Warsaw, Lodz, Bialystok, etc.  and these proved the prelude to the concentration camps and gas chambers.  Great numbers of Jews were brought to Poland from other parts of Nazi-occupied Europe for annihilation.

Teen-aged Jews joined the underground struggle of the Partisans, while the ghetto risings at Warsaw, Bialystok, and other places produced acts of desperate courage.  

After WWII in 1945, Jews who had escaped to Russia or had been exiled, returned to try and pick up the threads of life in Poland, mostly settling in Silesia, Lodz, Warsaw, and Cracow.  The Communist regime opposed their settlement, and there were cases of assault and even pogroms at Kielce in 1946, resulting in considerable emigration and a drastic reduction in the size of the new Jewish neighborhoods.  

During the war, the tombstones in Lazdey's Jewish cemetery were overturned. Apparently, it was not demolished and built over as the Soviets did to numerous other Jewish cemeteries.

On the 13th of Mar-Cheshvan every year, natives of Lazdey living in Israel assemble in the Tel Aviv area for a memorial service in memory of the day of the annihilation of the Jews of Lazdey. After the memorial service, there is usually a friendly get-together. The well-known lawyer and native of Lazdey, Avraham (Golub) Tory, often speaks at these meetings. Each year, however, the attendance decreases as fewer natives of Lazdey remain alive".

The names of the Lithuanians who sheltered them are saved at the archives of Yad-Vashem.

After the war the survivors of the above mentioned towns erected a monument on the mass graves at Katkiske (Katkiškė in Lazdijai (Alytus County) is located in Lithuania about 78 mi (or 126 km) south-west of Vilnius, the country's capital town..) In 1991 a new monument was erected with the inscription in Lithuanian and Yiddish: At this place the Hitlerist murderers with their local helpers murdered on the 3.11.1941 1,535 Jews from the Lazdey district, men, women and children.  

After the war in 1945, returning Lazdey Jews, who found their property stolen and most of the houses ruined, started to rebuild their lives anew.  There were riots against the Jews in town over the conflict between Poland and the new Lithuanian state which concerned the sovereignty of Lazdey.  

Starting in 1955,, open anti-Semitic activity took place, and certain Communist circles deliberately directed discontent against the Jews.  After the Gomulka regime came to power in 1956, Jews were permitted to emigrate.

Begin, from Polish soldier to an Israeli politician, founder of Likud and the sixth Prime Minister of Israel, born 16 August 1913  died – 9 March 1992).  

Brest, formerly Brest-Litovsk, Polish Brześć, city and administrative centre of Brest oblast (region), southwestern Belarus, on the right bank of the western Bug River. First mentioned in 1019 as Berestye, it passed to Lithuania in 1319 and later to Poland. 

Between 1948 and 1958, about 140,500 Jews left Poland for Israel.

Krakow was left.  After the Six-Day War in 1967, a strong anti-Semitic reaction in the government deprived Jews of leading positions in many walk of life and led to a further emigration.  

At the time, many historians believed that this anti-Semitic campaign and the resulting migration of Polish Jews was the final chapter for Jewish life in Poland. The estimated Jewish population in 1989 was 5,000-10,000. This latter figure is difficult to gauge due to the fact that many Jews who remained post-1968 choose to conceal their identity. But, after the fall of the communist system and Poland’s entry into the European Union in 2004, the Jewish community began experiencing a cultural resurgence. Festivals and educational initiatives reintroduced Jewish culture into the public sphere. The world’s largest Jewish culture festival was launched in Kraków in 1988. Polish Jews, as well as Israeli Jews of Polish heritage, are reengaging with the past and reinvesting in their former communities. The Jewish community in Poland is finding new ways to express its identity, and to resist the efforts of the twentieth century that attempted to destroy its life.

After the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, the situation of Polish Jews became normalized and those who were Polish citizens before World War II were allowed to renew Polish citizenship.  The members remaining in 1990 were estimated at 16,000.                       

Lithuanian nationalists took the repudiation of the Brezhnev Doctrine as a signal that a declaration of independence might be accepted. On March 11, 1990, Lithuania declared that it was an independent nation, the first of the Soviet republics to do so.

It is the largest conventional military attack in Europe since World War II.

 The contemporary Polish Jewish community is estimated to have between 10,000 and 20,000 members.  Poland’s chief rabbi leads the effort to receive Ukrainian Jewish refugees.  Michael Shudrich says dozens have been helped by an ad hoc crisis group, as community prepares for many more displaced people fleeing the Russian invasion.

Nobody came to our aid when we were striving to create our country. We paid for it. We fought for it. We died for it. We will stand by our principles. We will defend them. "Menachem Begin communicated strength, pride and conviction. He was a proud Jew who knew that he had an incredible history and spiritual heritage behind him and consistently drew strength from that." 

                                           

    At the time, 40 year old Biden was scolding Begin in a Senate Hearing  over Israel's Senate policy in Judea and Samaria (West Bank), threatening to cut off economic aid to Israel if they did not stop building there.  This was in 1982.  Israel had won the Six Day War in 1967 and the USA had not given approval for Israel, who got their original land back in this terrible war when Israel had been attacked by all the Middle East countries and not only held their own alone but had won?  15 years had gone by and the Palestinians were still saying NO to peace which they had decided to say in 67 in the Kartoum Conference held in Sudan, Africa.   Begin exploded with his defensive tirade.                

The presumptive Democratic nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden, has denounced Israel’s plan  to cede towns and cities that were the Jewish ones built in area C, the Jewish part of Judea-Samaria according to the Oslo division of the land into A,B, and C.  as likely to undermine the long defunct “two-state solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israelis see frightened American Jews suffering from the Galut mentality of fear of upsetting the applecart. 

May 4, 1982: Prime Minister Menachem Begin said today that Israel would demand sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip at the end of the five-year transition period envisioned by the Camp David accords. He also vowed that no Jewish settlements in the territories would be dismantled as a result of any future peace negotiations. 

"The Jewish claim to Judea and Samaria goes back at least 3,000 years and is supported by literary, historical and archaeological evidence. In 1967, the State of Israel legally acquired territory in Judea and Samaria in a defensive war after being attacked by Jordan, which had itself been illegally occupying the land for the past 20 years. Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria are lawful and consistent with international law, as the U.S. government recently underscored."

If Biden wins this presidential election, what will this 78 year old man on November 20th do to Israel?  

Sudan, the 3rd state to declare,  just announced  that they are making peace with Israel.  It has taken them months to make this decision but with Jared Kushner's leading the way, is doing it.  "Sudan officially went to war with Israel in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and the Six-Day War in 1967 though it did not participate in the Suez Crisis. In the early 1950s, Sudan – then still not independent – had active trade relations with Israel. ... Later that month, Israeli planes were allowed to fly over Sudan.  In October 2020, an Israeli delegation visited Sudan, where they met with Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, for talks on a normalization of ties between the two countries. On 23 October 2020, Israel and Sudan agreed to a deal to normalize ties, and so today they made it official.
