However Did Jolani-al Sharaa Become President of Syria ?

 Nadene Goldfoot

Al Sharaa/Jolani, former al Qaeds terrorist became President of Syria by  being appointed by the many Jihadist factions in Syria following the fall of the Bashar Assad Regime in Syria.  He just signed a cease fire with his Syrian forces and other terrorist factions.

How does one get appointed by terrorist factions in a jihadist terrorist led county?  Answer is to be a son or some close relative who is a known terrorist.  These people have no concept of elections that Democratic countries use.

One thing about American Democracy is that we have 2 large meeting halls;  one for people called Representatives from their neighborhoods and the other called Senators,, both who are elected by the people.   Representatives serving two-year terms and Senators serving six-year terms, with one-third up for election every two years, all decided by voters in their respective states or districts, though state laws handle temporary vacancies differently.

Syrians or most Middle Easterners with Presidents have no clue as to how to become a President in their country.

Assad, known as the Butcher,  had held the position from July 17, 2000 till December 8, 2024.  That's almost 24 years.  Bashar al-Assad is a Syrian former politician, doctor and military officer who served as the president of Syria from 2000 until his overthrow in 2024 after the Syrian civil war. Bashar Al-Assad and his family to reportedly fled to Moscow, Russia.

Assad’s rule has been characterized by arbitrary arrests and detention, torture, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, rape, and mass surveillance. In March 2011, only 15 years ago,  inspired by the Arab Spring’s pro-democracy protests, Syrian schoolchildren in southern Daraa painted anti-regime graffiti on a local school’s wall. They were arrested, held for days, and subjected to torture, sparking local protests calling for their release. Peaceful demonstrations quickly expanded throughout Syria, calling for freedom and dignity and, ultimately, the end of the Assad regime. As demonstrations developed rapidly, the Syrian regime steadily increased its military crackdown on demonstrators, escalating into a full-fledged armed conflict.

Between 2011 and 2021, the Assad regime killed 306,887 civilians, including 27,126 children. The Assad regime deliberately concealed the fate and whereabouts of forcibly disappeared people, with estimates placing the number at upward of 150,000 people. Moreover, over 6.8 million people have fled Syria since 2012, and 7.2 million Syrians remain internally displaced.

As the conflict persisted, humanitarian conditions in Syria deteriorated. The regime systematically denied the flow of humanitarian aid to millions of Syrians. As of March 2024, 70% of the population is in dire need of humanitarian assistance, and 90% live below the poverty line.

Assad’s rule should be remembered by his chemical attacks, particularly those in Ghouta and Douma in 2013, which saw more than 1,400 and 43 killed, respectively, a large majority of victims being innocent children.

Actually, Syria had been under 53 years of repression and brutality because his father, Hafez al Assad, was President first.  Hafez al-Assad committed widespread atrocities against Syrians, most notably the Hama massacre (1982), where his forces killed tens of thousands of civilians and members of the Muslim Brotherhood in a brutal siege, establishing a legacy of fear, repression, and human rights abuses that laid the groundwork for the subsequent Syrian civil war, characterized by mass imprisonment, torture, disappearances, and systematic suppression of dissent.

The thing is that our Democratic President Trump is trusting a born terrorist, which means giving him our secrets in security as well. Al Sharaa/Jolani just made a clever move that will make him look like an angel.  The halo will not last.  It's made of brass   In fact, Trump's halo is already getting lots of cracks in his and is also made of brass.  Let me count the ways now:  Iran, Greenland, NATO, Europe, West Wing in Whitehouse....economy, gas pricing, .and on they grow.
