I went to a meeting in Portland quite long ago where the spokesman for Israel was an Arab woman from the Druse or another group, and I was so highly impressed with her that I wished at the time all could hear her. In my apartment in Safed, Israel, lived Arabs and Jews. One day a pipe burst upstairs in the next floor above us and the water came like a river into our apartment which was the bottom floor. Two women came and helped me sweep the water out; a Jewish Israeli and an Arab Israeli. The Jewish lady spoke Hebrew of course and Arabic so they conversed with each other, but I was a newbie and couldn't speak either one. It was nice to think that they both helped me out. That was 1980.
I'm really disappointed in people believing that Israel would purposely bomb a hospital ! It would be going against everything they stand for.
The hospital involved is Al Ahli Arab Hospital. "Founded 1882 and run by the Anglican church, Al Ahli Arab Hospital described itself on its website as "a haven of peace in the middle of one of the world’s most troubled places". The hospital said it offered 80 beds with services such as a free programme to detect breast cancer, a centre for elderly women, and a mobile clinic offering free services to surrounding towns". The propaganda said 500 were killed of which seems to be far more than the actual number. That number has not been verified.
It's an act typical of past action of their enemy, Hamas, however, and even that is wrong. It was another terrorist group in Gaza, the Islamic Jihad group (PIJ) that errantly shot the bomb which landed in the parking lot next to the hospital, not traveling the distance they had wanted. They are aligned with Hamas and also funded by Iran.
They are found in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, sponsored by Iran and Syria. They are committed to the creation of an Islamic Palestinian state and the destruction of Israel, so when people say they are all for a Palestinian State, this is what they are calling for in essence. It's certainly not going to look like the USA. This is what the meeting in 1967 in Khartoum, Africa called for.
Their operation activities have been shootings, bombings, rocket attacks and suicide bombings. They performed 1,000 terrorist attacks between 2000 and 2004 when 950 Israelis were wounded and 150 were killed. They were responsible also for 39 suicide bombings. A battle with them happened in 2002 in Jenin which was their center, which was called the Palestinian terrorist "suicide capital." In 2005, 59 suicide bombers were foiled and arrested. They have been growing into a major player. they recruit followers in mosques and universities. You'll find they are opposed to cease fires and lulls in the terrorist operations, thus the bomb that went wrong and killed their own people.
This has been thoroughly checked out by Israel as to what had happened, and they have proof. But it is causing all sorts of people to blame Israel immediately since they are shelling Gaza--- which has not stopped shelling Israel. Rockets have fallen in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and the only saving aid is the Iron Dome which Israel and the USA have invented.
Those people who know Israel's history both ancient and modern would know what they stand for. Our saying is "TO LIFE !" There was a lot of reason to doubt the hysterics and planned propaganda that Hamas used in this act of violence. They first enlarged the numbers killed, for instance.
Hamas and other terrorists already have the reputation of hiding behind their own people and putting them in danger, hiding ammunition in mosques, schools, hospitals, and such. That's why it's going to be hard to dig them out of their tunnels and from crowds of people. That's why they took hostages-people to hide behind and to barter with.
Outsiders not knowing the history should not be pushing for something they know nothing about but need to study the issue, and study it deeply. All this time, Israel has been more than agreeable, ready to give up almost all their land for peace and what happened? The Arabs said their famous 3 NO NO NOs. No way, they are still holding out wanting all the land, not just half the land or a piece of the land. And on that land, as they have already announced, there will be no Jews living on it.
So, what I would say is that when they want to live in peace, and actually socialize with Israelis like the Jews of Sderot and the kibbutzim were trying to do with them who were slaughtered, when they could show they were of the same minds in wanting to be neighbors like those soldiers above in the unit, when they get to that point, then you can talk about a 2 state solution. Not before.
To me, a real friend of Israel would not jump to the chance of accusing Israel of such an act of terror. Think ! What would Israel gain by doing such a thing? It's the last thing Israel needs, the hatred of the world after gaining some empathy because of the slaughter. Don't people see see how Hamas used this to their advantage to change the emotions of the public?
