Ramallah, Near Jerusalem, Center of Palestinian Authority (PA)

 Nadene Goldfoot

You can see that the Palestinians are not just planning but telling their people that they are in Palestine.

Ramallah sits in Samaria, which was the land the northern 10 tribes of Israel were allotted by Joshua.  Samaria was the name of their capital  that was created after King Solomon had died.  The 10 tribes and Judah broke away for political reasons, and the nothern tribes picked a new King for themselves, Jeroboam who ruled from 933-912 BCE.  Judah had kept Solomon's son, Rehoboam as their king, ruling also from933-917 BCE.

Ramallah was spotlighted today on TVs  Full Measure on ABC.  The show, 4 minutes long, presented Ramallah's view only on the subject called SETTLEMENTS.

"Ramallah — it’s about 13 miles north of Jerusalem and has the look and feel of a nation’s capital. Here, flags fly above government offices, traffic is crawling, and shops overflow with merchandise to meet any budget.  Only, Ramallah isn’t a capital. It’s not even located in a nation.  Technically speaking, Ramallah is the administrative center of ancient land claimed by both Palestinians and Jews, and sits quite literally in the middle of one of the most complex conflicts in the world. "

Then we heard from Ramallah view, without any Israeli comment.  "Ramallah Shop Owner: “Here we are rightful landowners who are under injustice.”

Now I'll present some other facts.

Why is it that Emporis lists cities in Palestinian villages or towns as cities, but all Palestinian and others call Israeli villages, town, cities as settlements?  Such Palestinian cities they list are:  Metro Cities

Abu DisAl JibAl RamAl ZuayyimBeit IjzaBeituniaBethanyBethlehemBidduBir NabalaBirzeitEast JerusalemHebronKafr AqabNablusRamallah

East Jerusalem is in Israel.  Jerusalem is unified, but evidently Palestinians refuse to acknowledge that fact to their people.

I highlighted the town I've heard of, know that Palestinians have taken them over with a big % of the population.

About Ramallah

50,000 in city
600,000 in metro
16 km² (6 mi²)
872 m

Small City in the middle of the West Bank, Palestine , about 500m over sea level. It's twin sister, El-Bireh, overlaps with with Ramallah, you sometimes can't decide which city you are in when you are on the "border" between both cities. The City was occupied by Jordan 1948-1967, and by Israel 1967- now. Very lively & vivid city, temporarily contains many of the Palestinian Authority's main offices in the West Bank,
They have added their plan of the takeover of Israel:

1. " in the middle of the West Bank, Palestine " , for the West
Bank is divided by having the Palestinian section, the Israeli
section, and  the section for both-(Oslo Accords).
2. "until Jerusalem is transferred to Palestinian rule."
3. temporarily contains many of the Palestinian Authority's
main offices in the West Bank, (plan is to take over Jerusalem)

As an ancient village, Ramallah has buildings incorporating masonry from the time of Herod the Great (reigned 37–4 BCE), but no complete structure antedates the Crusades of the 11th century CE.

The name Ramallah is composed of “ram,” an Aramaic word that means “hill” and “Allah,” the Arabic word for God. Thus, it means “the hill of God.” Most probably it was originally called “Ram” and, only after the Arab conquest of the area, the word “Allah” was added.  That would be after 632 CE.

A census taken in 1562, during the Turkish reign over Palestine (1517-1917), showed that the inhabitants of Ramallah consisted of 63 Christian families, 8 Christian single men, and 8 Muslim families. The aim of the census was to collect taxes.

According to the 1953 census, there were 13,500 people in Ramallah – 5,000 Ramallah natives and 8,500 refugees. That was the largest influx of people to come and settle in Ramallah during any one period of time.

The demographic makeup of the town changed drastically between 1948 and 1967; formerly Ramallah was predominantly Christian and twice as large as Al-Bīrah, a Muslim town. According to the special census of the West Bank taken by Israel in 1967, Ramallah’s population was 12,134, only slightly more than half Christian, while that of Al-Bīrah, including a large refugee camp, was 13,037. Pop. (2005 est.) Ramallah and Al-Bīrah, 62,800.

Ramallah, also spelled Rām Allāh, town in the West Bankadjacent to the town of Al-Bīrah (east) and north of Jerusalem. Administered as part of the British mandate of Palestine (1920–48), Ramallah was part of the West Bank territory taken by Arab forces in the first of the Arab-Israeli wars (1948–49) and subsequently annexed by Jordan

After the Six-Day War of 1967, Ramallah was under Israeli control as part of the occupied West Bank territory until coming under the administration of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the wake of the 1993 Oslo Accords; it later became the centre of PA administration in the West Bank. As an ancient settlement, Ramallah has buildings incorporating masonry from the time of Herod the Great (reigned 37–4 BCE), but no complete structure antedates the Crusades of the 11th century CE.

Samaria itself, the northern new capital, was founded in 880 BCE after the 6th king of Solomon,  Omri, on a hill bought from Shemer.  Later, the whole area around Samaria became the name of all the land.

Shechem is now called Nablus, another Palestinian town today.  It had been the ancient Canaanite city called  Ebal in the Torah. Shechem, after a united Israel split in 930 B.C., became the first capital of the Northern Kingdom under Jeroboam (1Kings 12:25). He soon changed it, however, to Tizrah (1Kings 14:17). The city stayed Israel's capital until the reign on Omri (reigning from 887-876)  who, after ruling from Tizrah for six years, purchased a hill he named Samaria after its owner Shemer (1Kings 16:24). He then made the bought property his residence. The word Samaria first referenced Israel's capital but later was a synonym for the entire northern kingdom (1Kings 18:2, Jeremiah 31:5, Ezekiel 16, etc.). The city stayed Israel's capital from about 879 to 723 B.C. when the kingdom was conquered and taken captive by Assyria.

Jews never left the land of Palestine and in fact were called Palestinians themselves aft 135 CE when Bar Kokhba was killed after holding Jerusalem for 3 years-beating the Romans.  There has always been a small population of Jews in Palestine.  Then by 1881, Jews came in large groups, leaving countries where they had been 2nd class citizens, injured in pogroms, suffering from anti-Semitism.  There were 5 such groups and they started building projects, like revitalizing cities, etc.  Palestinians needed jobs at that time so heard about the Jews possibly hiring them and they followed the Jews in Palestine.  Those Arabs holding land quickly sold it to the Jews at very high prices, but the Jews paid, and so those Arabs left for Damascus, Paris, with handfuls of money.  There never was a state of Palestine, only land the Ottoman Empire held for 400 years and made money on from taxing the inhabitants, of course.

May 14, 1948, the announcement of the state of Israel

So now we have the situation where the idea of a 2 state solution was nice until we see that since 1967, Palestinian leaders have had it that they can take over and run the Jews into the sea.  When Palestinians come down to the level of irrationality of the Canadians as they feel about the USA, then Israel should be able to talk of a 2 state solution.  Not now, and as it appears today, not ever, after waiting for the past 74 years.  Yes, Israel, with a government, is 74 years old. That's a long time to wait for someone to accept you.
