Is Donald Trump, USA President, Good For The Jews?

On May 14, 2025, the question of whether or not Donald Trump is good for the Jews was discussed in the Sapir Debates held in New York City. 

Rahm Israel Emanuel born November 29, 1959) age 66 is an American politician and diplomat who most recently served as United States ambassador to Japan from 2022 to 2025.  Emanuel's father, Benjamin M. Emanuel, was born in Jerusalem, where he was a member of the Irgun paramilitary organization. He moved to the United States to work as a pediatrician at Michael Reese Hospital. The surname Emanuel (Hebrewעמנואל), which means "God is with us", was adopted by their family in memory of Rahm's uncle (his father's brother) Emanuel Auerbach, who was killed in 1933 by Arabs in Jerusalem.  His first name, Rahm (רם‎) means high or lofty in Hebrew.  

In June 2007, Emanuel condemned an outbreak of Palestinian violence in the Gaza Strip and criticized Arab countries for not applying the same kind of pressure on the Palestinians as they have on Israel. At a 2003 pro-Israel rally in Chicago, Emanuel told the marchers that Israel was "ready for peace" but would not get there until Palestinians "turn away from the path of terror".  Interesting as they chose for 2023- exactly 20 years later, the worst path of terror a human could conceive.  

Jason Dov Greenblatt
 (born March 30, 1967) age 58 is an American lawyer. He was the executive vice president and chief legal officer to Donald Trump and The Trump Organization, and his advisor on Israel.  I always thought it was Trump's son in law, Jared Kushner. 
Greenblatt is an Orthodox Jew, and lives in Teaneck, New Jersey, with his wife and six children, the eldest three of which are triplets. His wife, Naomi Greenblatt, is a psychiatrist.  Greenblatt is the son of Hungarian Jewish refugees, and grew up in Forest Hills, QueensNew York City. During World War II, his father fled Szatmárcseke in 1941 as a child, while his mother hid in Budapest with her family during the Nazi occupation, and fled to the United States after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956.

 Bret Louis Stephens (born November 21, 1973) age 52  is an American conservative columnist, and journalist. He has been an opinion columnist for The New York Times and a senior contributor to NBC News since 2017. Since 2021, he has been the inaugural editor-in-chief of SAPIR: A Journal of Jewish Conversations.  Both his parents were secular Jews. His mother was born in Italy at the start of World War II to Jewish parents who had fled Nazi Germany. His paternal grandfather, Louis Ehrlich, was born in 1901 in Kishinev (today ChișinăuMoldova). 

 The debate was between Jason Greenblatt who thought he was good for the Jews, and had  served as Trump’s Special Envoy to the Middle East and worked for him for 20 years, and  Rahm Emanuel, former mayor of Chicago and former chief of staff to President Obama, and US Ambassador to Japan. who said he was not. It became praising Trump and Obama.  

Moderated by SAPIR Editor-in-Chief Bret Stephens, this is a timely, unsparing exchange on identity, power, politics — and what it means to stand with the Jews in America today. During the 2016 United States presidential election campaign, Stephens became part of the Stop Trump movement, regularly writing articles for The Wall Street Journal opposing Donald Trump's candidacy and becoming "one of Trump's most outspoken conservative critics". Stephens has compared Trump to Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. After Trump was elected, Stephens continued to oppose him: in February 2017, Stephens gave the Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture at the University of California, Los Angeles, and used the platform to denounce Trump's attacks on the media. His opposition to Trump continued after he moved to the Times. For instance, in 2018 he argued that by the same logic Republicans used to justify the impeachment of Bill Clinton, they should impeach Trump.

They were given 4 minutes each to start with, then 3 minutes of rebuttal.  I didn't even realize they had started;   thought they were just chatting about the discussion, and I've been a judge in real debates at a high school.

I thought Jason was very clear in his defense and why, but couldn't put my finger on Rahm's reasons why not, though he did speak fast, and I am old.  On debating, I'd give Jason the medal.  Actually, I think Trump has done much for Israel, more than any other president. 

I found out that the BBC cuts off Jason but the Hungarians are worse than Al Jazeera is in cutting anything he says.   They brought up Charlottesville and the Universities in their allowing anti-Semitism.   The also brought up politics with Iran and the missiles raining on Israel from them.  

So here I go.  From what I know, Israelis appreciate Trump very much.  I never did think Obama was really for Israel or Netanyahu at all, especially when he and his contingent went to Washington and had to go through the back door as I remember.  I think they were snubbed and I wondered what they'd do for dinner.  It was a bad scene.  

A town was named for Trump in Israel, showing how much they appreciated him, for he had okayed the capital as Jerusalem and had the Embassy building moved there when other presidents alluded to doing it but never did.  It showed this was a change from Democrats to Republicans backing Israel which was a shock.  Trump started the Abraham Accords and was there to sign on. 

 They spoke of the college campuses and its anti-Semitic acts.  Also Josh Shapiro thought that Biden's vice president didn't want him running with her for fear that his being Jewish would hold her back.  There is anti-Semitism in both the Democrat and Republican parties that each was aware of.  Obama evidently legitimatized some of it. 

Rahm remembered the Houthis being bombed by USA over the ships which caused them to shoot missiles at Israel;  and USA did nothing to help.  He also brought up the tariff Trump was charging Israel and said that right now Israel is in bad shape economically, so its a bad time for a tariff, but I remember Netanyahu expressing immediately that they would certainly pay it.  He was happy that Trump got out Alexander, the American/Israeli from Hamas. The worst thing was Trump's letter to Harvard that did not mention once, (anti-Semitism) in the acts happening there.  It was more of a politically speaking letter. Greenblatt still was in a thankful mood toward what the USA had done for Jews in allowing to enter and experience freedom that they had not been able to have from any other country.     

There are orthodox rabbis in the states backing Trump for religious reasoning.  A large Christian group in the USA also backs Israel. 

Most all my family and friends are Democrats and are against Trump. Jews go back to Democrat Roosevelt believing he had something to do with their being allowed entry after the door closed on most in the 20s.  When you are conflicted like so many of us that could be on this question, you are experiencing cognitive dissonance.  Read Steve Henwood's videos about that and how to resolve it.

Hamas Attacks On Israel Ongoing Since Arafat's PLO of 1964

Israel was created on May 4, 1948.  It was the end of conditions and meetings that started before World War I ended, in the 1920s.  It was the Jewish hope and dream of re-establishing their land lost to the Romans in 70CE.  The British held the mandate for 30 years before letting the land be in Jewish hands once again.  They left, boarding their trains, and the Arabs attacked a minute later.

Arabs had a meeting in Cairo in 1964.  After concluding the meeting, the PLO was founded on 2 June 1964. Its stated "complementary goals" were Arab unity and the liberation of Palestine from the Jews.  

The PLO began their militancy campaign from its inception with an attack on Israel's National Water Carrier in January 1965. The group used guerrilla tactics to attack Israel from their bases in Jordan (which then included the Judea/Samaria - West Bank), Lebanon, Egypt (Gaza Strip), and Syria.)

HAMAS formed in late 1987 at the beginning of the first Palestinian intifada (uprising). Its roots are in the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, and it is supported by a robust sociopolitical structure inside the Palestinian territories.

What is the Muslim Brotherhood that Egypt disliked?  The movement's self-stated aim is the establishment of a state ruled by sharia law under a caliphate–its most famous slogan is "Islam is the solution". They provided a lot of charity in order to be recognized and desirable.  The group spread to other Muslim countries but still has one of its largest organizations in Egypt, despite a succession of government crackdowns since 1948. It remained a fringe group in the politics of the Arab World until the 1967 Six-Day War, when Islamism managed to replace popular secular Arab nationalism after a resounding Arab defeat by Israel.

  They were the fighters of Fatah, created by Yasser Arafat.  Hamas is the Islamic Resistance Movement, abbreviated Hamas,  a Palestinian nationalist Sunni Islamist political organization with a military wing, the Qassam Brigades. It has governed the Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip since 2007.  Led by Mohammed Deif until his death on 13 July 2024, the Al-Qassam Brigades is the largest and best-equipped militia operating within the Gaza Strip in recent years.  Created in mid-1991, it was at the time concerned with blocking the Oslo Accords negotiations. From 1994 to 2000, the Al-Qassam Brigades has claimed responsibility for carrying out a number of attacks against Israelis.

Gaza belonged to Israel who gave it to the Palestinians in 1993.

During the Six-Day War, in 1967, Israeli forces occupied the Gaza Strip, and in 1970 Israel built the first Israeli settlement in the territory. By 2005 the Gaza Strip had 21 Israeli settlements and about 9,000 Israeli settlers compared with about 1.3 million Palestinians living in the territory. 

Meanwhile, in 1993 Israel and Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) had agreed to a framework for Palestinian self-governance in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank (see Oslo Accords). 

As part of that peace process, Israeli forces withdrew from the city of Gaza in 1994 (as well as from the Judea/Samaria city of Jericho) and transferred civilian functions for the city to the newly created Palestinian Authority (PA). 

In June 2007, Hamas fighters took control of the Gaza Strip and removed all Fatah officials. President Abbas, on 14 June, 2007, declared a state of emergency, dismissed Haniyeh's national unity government and appointed an emergency government, and suspended articles of the Basic Law to circumvent the needed PNC approval.

On June 4, 2009 in Cairo, Egypt, President Obama proposed a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world, based upon mutual interest and mutual respect in his speech to his audience.  Specifically, the President said that the U.S. would seek a more comprehensive engagement with Muslim-majority countries, countries with significant Muslim populations, and their people by expanding partnerships in areas like education, economic development, science and technology, and health, among others, while continuing to work together to address issues of common concern.  Since the President’s speech, the Administration remains committed to confronting common challenges and seizing shared opportunities.This came at a time when Hamas terrorism was in its creation, ready to take over Fatah.                                   

Hamas has attacked Israel since 2009 every year till the October 7, 2023 surprise attack.  Over the course of 2009, 569 rockets and 289 mortars (a total of 858) were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel, in comparison to 2,048 rockets in 2008. Out of these, 406 were fired during the Gaza War, which ended on 18 January, and 160 were fired during the rest of the year.

In the early hours of October 7, 2023, Hamas militants launched a brutal air and ground assault in Israel, killing more than 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages, according to Israeli authorities. Within hours of the terror attack, Israel struck back and has since mounted an all-out war against Hamas that has claimed more than 40,000 Palestinian lives in Gaza over the course of the past year, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health.

After more than three decades of Israeli restrictions on the flow of both people and goods into and out of Gaza,  because they would sneak in ammunition to use against Israel, Palestinians in the enclave were already suffering from chronic shortages of food, clean water, electricity, medicine and housing while under their own Hamas rulers. Many lived in refugee camps after experiencing generations of displacement, also something Hamas had ordered.

 Cities such as Portland, Oregon have been doing this:  PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Around the world, people gathered to mark the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack inside Israel that killed 1200 people and turned scores of people into hostages. 

That set off what Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden said was a mushrooming conflict in the Middle East, as Israel continues to attack inside Gaza and now in part of Lebanon.

In this past year, more than 41,000 people have been killed in Gaza.

Monday evening, about 80 people joined the ‘PDX for Palestine’ rally at Sewallcrest Park on SE 31st. Several people spoke before the group marched down Southeast Hawthorne. The overriding sentiment from those at the rally was to remind people about what is going on in the Middle East and to get the US government to stop funding Israel.

Oh yes, blame Israel, for sure!!!  Blame Israel because it is a Jewish state!!!!!After all, they have 6 million Jews living there compared to the Palestinians who only have 48 other states to live in.

In Israel proper, Palestinians constitute almost 21% of the population as part of its Arab citizens. Many are Palestinian refugees or internally displaced Palestinians, including over 1.4 million in the Gaza Strip, over 870,000 in Judea/Samaria, and around 250,000 in Israel proper. Of the Palestinian population who live abroad, known as the Palestinian diaspora, more than half are stateless, lacking legal citizenship in any country.  

Israel was created again by Jews without their homeland for 2,000 years.  They have one country that in the process, lost 80% of the land taken through British politics with Abdullah of Arabia, then another 10%, now down to the only 10% left and have to fight to keep that much, 

 That is what their leadership desires for the Palestinian way of fighting 

against Israel;  that and allowing each man to have 4 wives to produce many children;  2.3 million of the diaspora population are registered as refugees in neighboring Jordan, most of whom hold Jordanian citizenship; over 1 million live between Syria and Lebanon, and about 750,000 live in Saudi Arabia, with Chile holding the largest Palestinian diaspora concentration (around half a million)

All the marches of civilians screaming for freedom for Gazans  show complete lack of knowledge as to what's been going on that Israel has had to put up with;  people who hate them for wanting to live. That's what they're demonstrating to me, a Jew with dual citizenship.  

 People who lack the knowledge, the education, just listening to gossip of the media which vies to get attention to enhance their pockets will someday find out the truth and castigate themselves for being so idiotic; I hope!!!

    600 Sanctuary Cities and Obama Selected Ours

    Portland, Oregon is supposed to be like ancient Israel's cities of Refuge.  The cities of refuge (Hebrewערי המקלט ‘ārê ha-miqlāṭ) were six Levitical towns in the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah in which the perpetrators of accidental manslaughter could claim the right of asylum.  Maimonides, invoking talmudic literature, expands the city of refuge count to all 48 Levitical cities. 

    Outside of these cities, blood vengeance against such perpetrators was allowed by law. The Bible names the six cities of refuge as follows: GolanRamoth, and Bosor to the east (left bank) of the Jordan River; and KedeshShechem, and Hebron on the western (right) side.

                                Oregon has Sanctuary Laws.  

    Oregon Is a Sanctuary State

    As a sanctuary state since 1987, Oregon stands for the safety, dignity and human rights of all Oregonians. Oregon was the first state in the nation to pass a statewide law stopping state and local police and government from helping federal authorities with immigration enforcement.  In the ensuing decades, the law was updated several times.

    To strengthen existing sanctuary laws, the Sanctuary Promise Act (HB 3265 ») was passed in 2021. The Act increases safety and protection measures for immigrant communities through increased support, as well as transparency and accountability regarding government interactions with federal immigration authorities.

    It is against Oregon law for state and local law enforcement or public agencies (state and local government offices) in the state of Oregon to participate directly or indirectly in immigration enforcement without a judicial warrant. 

    Federal immigration authorities are prohibited from operating private detention centers or accessing non-public spaces in jails.  State and local police are prohibited from acting on non-judicial warrants (see our Glossary).  The Sanctuary Promise Act requires all requests made by federal agencies to state and local law enforcement and government agencies regarding immigration enforcement without a judicial order to be documented, reported, and denied.  There may be exceptions to each of these.

    Oregon Sanctuary Laws say:

    • You do not have to share and you should not be asked about your country of birth, immigration, or citizenship status by state or local law enforcement or government agencies. There are exceptions.
    • You may not be investigated or interrogated by state or local law enforcement for immigration enforcement purposes.
    • Your country of birth, immigration or citizenship status information should not be stored or shared by state or local government agencies or law enforcement. There are exceptions.
    • Your information should not be shared by state or local law enforcement to assist in detaining you or any individual for immigration purposes.
    • All requests from federal agencies to state or local government agencies or law enforcement about immigration enforcement without a judicial order should be documented, reported and denied by the local agency receiving the request.
    • You cannot be arrested from a court facility, or while you are traveling to or from court, with any immigration warrant except a judicial warrant or order signed by a judge (for more information about different types of warrants, see our Glossary).
    • State or local law enforcement or public agencies must refuse and reject collaboration with federal authorities for immigration enforcement purposes, including setting up traffic stops or traffic perimeters to enforce federal immigration laws/orders.
    • You can access certain government services without being asked about your immigration status.
    • You can take legal action against violators of Oregon’s sanctuary laws.
    • If Oregon’s sanctuary laws are being violated by a state or local police officer, state trooper, sheriff’s deputy, either during their employment time or off duty time, or by a government worker, you can report the violation to the Sanctuary Promise Hotline.

Today, we have more agents and technology deployed to secure our southern border than at any time in our history. And over the past six years, illegal border crossings have been cut by more than half. Although this summer, there was a brief spike in unaccompanied children being apprehended at our border, the number of such children is now actually lower than it’s been in nearly two years. Overall, the number of people trying to cross our border illegally is at its lowest level since the 1970s. Those are the facts." 

    Portland, Oregon  is one of 600 sanctuary cities in the USA.  Each of the following has a population of over 700,000 according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates for 2019.
     New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Illinois, Philadelphia, Penn.;  San Diego, CA;  San Jose, CA; Columbus, Ohio; San Francisco, CA;  Seattle, WA;  and Denver, Colorado are the largest cities.  Yes, Portland, Oregon is a sanctuary city. This means that the city limits local law enforcement's cooperation with federal immigration authorities.                                           

    I am the Jewish Bubba living in the Assisted Living of Brookdale in Oswego Springs, Portland, Oregon, an enterprise that is in almost all 50 states.  I speak for my friends in saying that we were all appalled at the sloppy way entrance to the USA from Mexico was handled in the first place that caused such a build-up of a population wanting to enter so badly that they broke the law and became illegals in order to be free from the dangers waiting for them in their countries.  Many of us have experienced going in and out of the USA and living in other places.  There wasn't enough people evidently to handle the need in the first place, allowing it to develop into something like an invasion. So there you are!  Sloppy work to start with!  I think we will all have to raise cane if you try to take away our cherished people!!!

    It seems like every president since Eisenhower has taken executive action  on immigration !   These executive actions have filled gaps in legislation by permitting certain individuals to temporarily enter or remain in the United States when it serves the nation’s interests. They have protected people from specific countries—such as Hungarians and Cubans fleeing communism, Iranians fleeing revolution, Chinese nationals after the Tiananmen Square massacre, as well as Salvadorans, Hondurans, Guatemalans, and Nicaraguans after a hurricane. These executive actions have also addressed individuals who share attributes or possess common equities such as spouses and children of immigrants who received legal status under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 and, more recently, DREAMers through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program.  DACA stands for "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals," which is a U.S. immigration policy that allows certain individuals who came to the United States as children without legal status to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and be eligible for a work permitessentially providing temporary protection from deportation and allowing them to work legally in the country. 

    We need our workers to stay!  We love them like our own family!  Take the criminal element, but leave our workers born here in peace.  

    Now, it's being handled like the Nazis worked it out with my people, the Jews of Europe.  They also broke into homes, dragging out the people, who were never seen alive again, probably after entering places like Auschwitz.  The 14th Amendment states that if one is born here, he is a citizen.  Doesn't Trump read first before making a law?  Fourteenth Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
     
    No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

    We are all about to have heart attacks with worry about our caretakers and med-techs; cooks and servers who mostly come from Mexico and take such good care of us.  These people are priceless working at a level no doubt of minimal pay anyway.  If the Nazi-group (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). carts away our workers, what will become of us?  Thanks, Trump;  it's enough for us to worry about making our own monthly pay every month to such an assisted life; but now we are under more stress, not good for the heart, you know, and our caretakers show they are also under the strain from day to day now.  

    Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, so this is also my report for today.  We don't;  we can't have a repeat of what happened to my ancestors with Nazis invading homelife of Jews and grabbing people out of their homes and businesses and to solve their problems.  If my grandfaher, Nathan Goldfus/Goldfoot, hadn't decided to immigrate to the USA, I would have been born in Lithuania and in 1939 at age 4, wouldn't have lived very long.  


    The USA goofed up with President Coolidge signing the Johnson-Reed Act in 1917. It was the year of  Literacy Tests and “Asiatic Barred Zone.”  In 1917, the U.S. Congress enacted the first widely restrictive immigration law. The uncertainty generated over national security during World War I made it possible for Congress to pass this legislation, and it included several important provisions that paved the way for the 1924 Act that was even worse. 

    The 1917 Act implemented a literacy test that required immigrants over 16 years old to demonstrate basic reading comprehension in any language. It also increased the tax paid by new immigrants upon arrival and allowed immigration officials to exercise more discretion in making decisions over whom to exclude. Finally, the Act excluded from entry anyone born in a geographically defined “Asiatic Barred Zone” except for Japanese and Filipinos. In 1907, the Japanese Government had voluntarily limited Japanese immigration to the United States in the Gentlemen’s Agreement. The Philippines was a U.S. colony, so its citizens were U.S. nationals and could travel freely to the United States. China was not included in the Barred Zone, but the Chinese were already denied immigration visas under the Chinese Exclusion Act.

    The Immigration Act of 1924 limited the number of immigrants allowed entry into the United States through a national origins quota. This limited Jews allowed to enter.  The quota provided immigration visas to two percent of the total number of people of each nationality in the United States as of the 1890 national census. It completely excluded immigrants from Asia.

    As for being a country of immigrants, we don't have a very good track record of caring for immigrants, do we!!!
