Differences Between Merry Old England's Sexual Morals and the New World of Boston

 Nadene Goldfoot

We forget that our first ancestors to the settle  in Plymouth Rock spoke English as they were Englishmen who had moved to Holland, and finding that and the language inadequate, moved onward on the ship, the Mayflower.  The reason they were seekers of a better life for themselves was that they had left the British state Anglican religion  for their own stricter one that followed much of what the Old Testament had to offer.  England had been a Roman Catholic country until 1534 when Henry VIII had the religion become the Church of England with a few changes to the Catholic religion.

Laura Ulrich b: 11 July 1938 in Sugar City, Idaho, a Pulitzer Prize author.  Her parents were John Thatcher and Alice Siddoway.  She was valedictorian from Utah, but also  Harvard educated and known for her study of early America and the women.  Her other book, “A Midwife’s Tale,” was later the basis for a PBS documentary film.  Ulrich self-identifies as an active feminist and Latter-day Saint (Mormon), and has written about her experiences.  She married Gael Ulrich, now emeritus professor of chemical engineering at the University of New Hampshire.

In the book, GOOD WIVES, by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, the author shows the difference in the morality of the new immigrant from England and the new settlers already in America who were very moral, especially sexually, unlike merry old England

Ulrich gives us the example of an Englishman who hopped into the bed of a neighbor after testing her gullibility, and she didn't yield but told her mother who brought suit against him.  She explains that men were called roges (rogues)  and women were whores.  "For a woman, sexual reputation was everything, for a man, it was part of a larger pattern of responsibility.

Pilgrim punishment;  put in the stocks.

A whore bestowed her favors indiscriminately, denying any man exclusive right to her body.  A rogue tricked or forced a woman into submission with no regard for consequences.    The words mirror traditional gender relationships.  A woman gave, a man took."  Evidently the British Isles was made up of a lot of rogues.  Not so yet in Massachusetts.

Our early settlers were very very religious.  What surprised me was the importance of the Old Testament, our Jewish Torah and Tanakh. What my husband read from the Good Book every Shabbat when we sat down about the Good wife  in Proverbs 31: An accomplished woman who can find?  Far beyond pearls is her value.  her husband's heart relies on her, and he shall lack no fortune.  She bestows goodness upn him, never evil, all the days of her life.  She seeks wool and flax, and her hands work willingly.....etc.

...was also used by the Pilgrims.  They were big admirers of Bathsheba, King David's love and wife.  King David is the author of all proverbs, which our Jewish history tells us.  This proverb expands on the virtues of the ideal wife, so all the Pilgrim women tried to follow in her footsteps.  Scriptural models can mean quite different things to different people, thus we have the differences between Christians and Jews.  Here, Proverbs 31 stands alone as a great model of behavior, but is a hard act to follow.  The good wife is so very good!  What energy she had!

To believe in Moloch as Canaanites did was to believe and accept human sacrifice;  the opposite of what Moses brought to the descendants of Abraham-the Jews who had been expulsed from England in  1290 and not allowed back in until 365 years later in 1655.  Pilgrims had landed on Plymouth Rock by 1620.  They never met any Jews.  I wonder if they did in Holland.  That was quite the country in those days for Jews as well.

Marranos (hidden Jews caused by the Spanish Inquisition of 1492) rather-people hiding the fact that they were Jews, started to settle in Amsterdam.  They started to settle in Holland in the Middle Ages because of the anti-Semitism in Germany. They had freedom of worship in Holland by the 17th century.  Dutch trade was expanding and that's what they were good at as a profession.  Sephardis were there first, followed by Ashkenazis later.  With the occupation of Holland by the French Revolutionary armies in 1796, the Dutch Jewry was formally emancipated.

Also, they followed Leviticus 20, Any man from the Children of Israel and from the proselyte who lives with Israel, who shall give of his seed to Molech,(having intercourse with Canaanites who sacrified human beings- believing in false gods like Moloch-a statue)   (shall be put to death;   the people of the land shall pelt him with stones.   the Laws and Liberties of 1648 established the death penalty for adultery, yet defined the crime according to the marital status of the woman, reinforcing the old notion of a man's property rights in his wife.

Quaker Mary Dyer led to execution on Boston Common, 1 June 1660. Public domain image by unknown artist. Mary Dyer (born Marie Barrett; c. 1611 – 1 June 1660) was an English and colonial American Puritan turned Quaker who was hanged in Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony, for repeatedly defying a Puritan law banning Quakers from the colony. She is one of the four executed Quakers known as the Boston martyrs.  This shows the ultimate Puritans (Pilgrims) not allowing another Christian group in their town-the Quakers.
When Peter Stuyvesant had to make a decision of whether to let a small boatload of Jewish refugees into New Amsterdam (New York), he said, absolutely not.  He had to eat his words and change his position, or not get a paycheck from Holland.

In September 1654, 23 Jews arrived in New Amsterdam aboard the St Cathrien. The Jews had come from Recife in Northeast Brazil, where they lived under Dutch rule. The Portuguese captured Recife from the Dutch and expelled the Jews.  (Spanish Inquisition).
When the Jews arrived the captain of the ship sued them for the money to pay for their passage. The local court sold their belonging and imprisoned two of the party.

Peter Stuyvesant the governor of the colony was not happy to receive the Jews. He described the Jews as "deceitful" and very "repugnant". Stuyvesant asked permission from the Dutch East India Company, who the colony belonged to remove the Jews from the settlement. The board, which included several Jewish investors, refused and instructed the governor to allow the new Jewish settlers to remain in New Amsterdam.

The 23 Jews who arrived are not the first Jews, to arrive in North America, but it is the first record we have of a group of men women and children arriving to make it their permanent home.

Peter Stuyvesant (also known as Pietrus Stuyvesant), the son of a clergyman of Friesland, was born in the Netherlands in 1592. Stuyvesant served in the Dutch Army before receiving his appointment as director-general of New Netherland in 1646. He had served in the West Indies and was governor of the colony of Curacoa.

A married man who had sexual relations with an unmarried woman risked only a fine or a whipping for fornication.  A married woman risked death.  A single woman risked only a fine or a whipping ---and of course, pregnancy!  That also happened with our ancestors.  Again, these laws were written for Jews 4,000-350,00- years ago, and the Pilgrims were trying to understand and follow literally in the 1600s CE without any rabbinical advice.

The Pilgrims were a Separatist group, and they established the Plymouth Colony in 1620. Puritans went chiefly to New England, but small numbers went to other English colonies up and down the Atlantic.

Puritans played the leading roles in establishing the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629, the Saybrook Colony in 1635, the Connecticut Colony in 1636, and the New Haven Colony in 1638. The Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations was established by settlers expelled from Massachusetts because of their unorthodox religious opinions. Puritans were also active in New Hampshire before it became a crown colony in 1691.

Puritanism ended early in the 18th century and before 1740 was replaced by the much milder Congregational church.  Within the United States, the model of Congregational churches was carried by migrating settlers from New England into New York, then into the Old Northwest, and further.

Norman Rockwell painting, Walking to Church, for Saturday Evening Post, could be of anyone's religious bent.

Unlike Presbyterians, Congregationalists practice congregational polity (from which they derive their name), which holds that the members of a local church have the right to decide their church's forms of worship and confessional statements, choose their own officers and administer their own affairs without any outside interference. Congregationalist polity is rooted in a foundational tenet of Congregationalism: the priesthood of believers. According to Congregationalist minister Charles Edward Jefferson, the priesthood of believers means that "Every believer is a priest and ... every seeking child of God is given directly wisdom, guidance, power."

Congregationalists have two sacraments: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Unlike Baptists, Congregationalists practise infant baptism. The Lord's Supper is normally celebrated once or twice a month. Congregationalists do not use the sign of the cross or invoke the intercession of saints..

The Ten Commandments in Hebrew on a Synagogue in Portland, Oregon.  Hopefully, Jewish men 13 and older can read them, and this is a Conservative synagogue.

Today there has been arguments about showing a sign of the 10 Commandments.  "In two 5-4 votes, the Supreme Court ruled Monday it is constitutional to display the Ten Commandments on public property as long as the intent of the exhibit isn't pushing a religious agenda. After a report from The Chicago Tribune's Jan Crawford Greenburg, two advocates debate the rulings and their fallout."

Louis Farrakhan, America's Big Anti-Semite, At It Again Through Nation of Islam

Nadene Goldfoot

Islamic leader, Louis Farrakhan spoke at a Detroit Baptist Church and attacked Jews, calling them "Satanic Jews."  He spoke of the "Synagogue of Satan."  In his speech he claimed that Jewish people control the news media!  I have to laugh at this one.  He should know that the news media is the worst in the USA in promoting Israel.  They rarely say anything good about Israel and love to print anything demeaning if they can find it, and that goes for any Jewish scandal as well.   This is the ago old "say something with verbosity and people will believe you," but saying Jews control the media beats all.  This is ancient anti-Semitic propaganda.  Why, the only TV news station that says anything fairly good about Israel has been Fox, and they're always in trouble for doing so, and I have detected a softening even with Bill O'Reilly. CNN makes me shudder, especially from one of their prized commentators when covering the subject of Israel.

Covering this speech of Farrakhan's, who is the well known leader of the mainly African-American religious movement, the Nation of Islam (NOI), was the Detroit Free Press.  He has been the minister of major mosques in Boston and Harlem.  Appointed by the longtime NOI leader, Elijah Muhammad before his death in 1975, he became the National Representative of the Nation of Islam.  So he's definitely a leader of anti-Semitic ideas with his people being so much anti-Semitism is coming out of mosques these days. I cite Qaradawi of Qatar as one big example who has a fatwah out to kill all Jews. he speaks out on al-Jazeera.    Farrakhan  is responsible for reopening over 130 NOI mosques in America and the world.  Perhaps it is he who has coerced the media into their anti-Semitic stand.

Farrakhan wasn't even letting Obama off the hook by saying that  he surrounded himself with Satan...members of the Jewish community.  This in itself is rather amusing, being he has had a few Jews on his staff, but they have been in complete harmony with him, being staunch Democrats.  It is their political viewpoint, not their religious one that connects them to Obama.  These Jews barely know a thing about Israel, which is my personal opinion based on what problems Israel has had to face with this administration.  I don't know what they could have coerced Obama into agreement with being they are just like him.  Being that Jews make up only 2% of our American population goes to saying that Farrakhan just can't understand why they can rise to such importance as being advisers to the president.  He shouldn't complain, though, not in this 2008-2116 period.  Blacks are only about 11% of the population of the USA.

Representative John Conyers was in the audience and was quite embarrassed.   He said, "Farrakhan made unacceptable racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic statements, which I condemn in the strongest possible terms."  He said he thought the speech would be about the challenges facing the city of Detroit.  Come on, Conyers.  You know who Farrakhan is and what he has stood for in the past.  His biggest thing is attacking Jews.  Here was his chance at age 79 to tell a congregation at a Black Baptist church how he feels about Jews.  I don't know of any leopard  that can change his spots.  He has changed his name a lot, though  Louis Farrakhan Muhammad, Sr, was born as Louis Eugene Wolcott  and was also formerly known as Louis X, which is rather like the famous Malcolm X.

Malcolm X was born as Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska whose father was a Baptist minister and supporter of the Black Nation's leader, Marcus Garvey.  Malcolm studied the teachers of the NOI leader,  Elijah Muhammad.  "By 1942 Malcolm was coordinating various narcotics, prostitution and gambling rings in Harlem, New York."  What he learned from Elijah was that "among other goals, the NOI fought for a state of their own, separate from one inhabited by white people."  So he learned that white man purposely kept the black man down, to hate whites and especially to hate Jews.

Louis Farrakhan and  Malcolm X's mentor, Elijah Muhammad was born as Elijah Robert Pool in Georgia in 1897 and died in 1975.  His father was also a Baptist lay preacher and sharecropper and was only able to get a 4th grade education.   "In August 1931, at the urging of his wife, Elijah Poole attended a speech on Islam and black empowerment by  Wallace  D. Fard.  There you have the beginning of a movement lacking peace and promoting hatred.

Rep. John Conyers is a man, also black,  of 84 in his 25th term in Congress.  He is someone who has an anti-Israel voice in Congress.  Now who do you suppose is his informant about Jews?  He has been against Iran sanctions and against the US funding the Iron Dome and anti-missile system.  His other side is that he's a typical left wing Democrat who wants things on his agenda fixed.  Luckily, others besides me attacked him for attending Farrakhan's night at the church.  Matt Drudge, an internet journalist who has the "Drudge Report" attacked him, and the ADA told Conyers and others to condemn these nasty remarks.  Conyers apologized to those who may have been offended by the "minister's" words.  Isn't he more like an Iman than a minister?  Well, I, for one,  am not only offended, but I am incensed at his words.  They're malicious and evil words that have nothing to do with truth.  .

Detroit is a big important city that has seen better days.  It has been going downhill fast in this economy.  They haven't tackled their deficit.  What has Farrakhan done to help his people get jobs and improve their lot?   His only religious lessons are to blame and hate Jews.  He reminds me of another leader in the 1930's and 40's who did this.  Better and more useful words have been spoken by Bill Cosby, who encourages education as the formula for successes and happiness.  I note that these anti-Semites have been very short on this end.

I can throw in that my father, Jewish, also had to quit high school and not finish because he had to help support his widowed mother and younger sisters.  It happened, but he didn't blame anyone.  He worked hard, challenged himself and developed skills as a butcher, then a cattle buyer, and finally owned his own meat packing business.  That's the American success story.  He did it even though there were a lot of anti-Semitic people around, too.  You have to believe in yourself and like yourself and know that you can succeed.  You don't join a hate group and blame others for your lacking.  You build your own support group of a loving family.  You give life your best shot, again and again if need be.  That's how you become proud of yourself.

Dzhokar Tsarnaev's Citizenship Oath on 9/11 To Be A Good Citizen Ignored

Nadene Goldfoot
Dzhokar Tsarnaev, a Chechen, the 19 year old Muslim  terrorist born in Chechnya, Kyrgyzstan who immigrated to the USA became a USA citizen last year.  He swore,  "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

I wonder if citizenship can be taken away by default for breaking this contract before the year is up?  There should be a clause in such a case as this.  Obviously the 5 years that should have acted as a time of vetting a person didn't tell much being he was so young.  He must have had to wait till age 18, it looks like,  which might be the law since the father didn't naturalize.

Dzhokar obviously lied by working with his brother to bomb the Boston marathon which resulted not only in 3 deaths but several others elsewhere as well as putting about 180 people in the hospital, some  with horrendous injuries like missing both legs.

Both Tamerlan born 1987 and Dzhoka, born 1994  came here in 2002 under an asylum petition by their father, Anzor,  who had said that he feared for his life because of his activities in Chechnya.  To get here he came on a tourist visa.  Now,  activities such as this most likely were terrorist activities against the Russian government. Was this ever checked out?   That didn't stop his two boys, ages 15 and 8,  from being able to wait the appropriate 5 years  and apply for American citizenship. Tamerlan was interviewed in 2011 by the FBI and then his citizenship papers were halted afterwards.

Evidently the family had moved from Chechnya to Daghestan in 2001 and lived in the city of Tokmok.  From there they immigrated to the USA.

Why didn't eyebrows go up when Anzor returned to Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia where he had sought asylum from? Dagestan is right next to Chechnya.  They both were part of Khazaria long ago.  Evidently he never sought out citizenship in the USA.   Why didn't our government question when Tamerlan returned there in January?  Tamerlan was in Dagestan for 6 months from January 2012 to June and turned in his citizenship application 6 days after his younger brother, Dzhokar had his application approved.  That was a strange thing to do when you want to apply for citizenship.  You're supposed to live here for 5 years.  Dzhoker has only been a citizen since September 2012 for 7 months.  "September 11th, in fact — Dzhoker Tzarnaev took the oath  during a large ceremony held at TD Bank Garden.

Tamerlan's papers had been held up for questionable activities.  Hitting his girlfriend doesn't count as it never went to court.  Russia had contacted the USA about Tamerlan being a terrorist but this was not acted on by us.  Evidently they couldn't find any evidence then.  He had posted something on You Tube about Dagistani jihadists and a religious Chechen singer singing "Life is devoted to jihad.".

There has been found a Chechen Wahhabi cell that is funded by al Qaeda.  By 2013 there were 124 people who died and 74 injured after years of violent Islamist violence there.  Could Anzor have been a member of that cell?

"An applicant for citizenship must be of "good moral character," meaning that he or she cannot have committed any serious crimes, or, in some cases, even any minor ones. They have to demonstrate the ability to speak and write in English. They must pass a civics test. At that point, the applicant qualifies for citizenship"

The Tsarnaev family are Chechens.  Chechens could have been displaced people transported to Chechnya in the 40's by Russia.  "The term "Chechen" first occurs in Arabic sources from the 8th century. According to popular tradition, the Russian term "Chechen" comes from the name of the village of Chechen-Aul, where the Chechens defeated Russian soldiers in 1732. The word "Chechen", however, occurs in Russian sources as early as 1692 and the Russians probably derived it from the Kabardian "Shashan"  The 1.7 million Chechens originated in the north Caucasus region of eastern Europe.

With such a fluid background that was undoubtedly violent for the father, these boys were able to live in the USA under the most favorable of conditions as far as the city of Boston goes.  What the family life was like is another story.  There is no excuse for anyone who seeks asylum to be saved and allowed to live in this great country to act violently and perform terrorist acts.    Who has been influencing them to seek out such websites as they have been doing in this country?

There are about 2,500 Jews living in Kyrgyzstan today.  20,000 Jews escaping war in WWII from Russia, Ukraine and Poland fled to Kyrgyz cities and villages.  The population has since dwindled.  In 1989 there were 5,800 Jews.  I say this because the area is predominantly Muslim today though about 1200 years ago as Khazaria it was a haven for Jews since the Royal family had converted to Judaism.

I hope our legal system takes a look at something they most likely have never been asked to swear; the oath for immigrants to become naturalized citizens.  My paternal grandfather and grandmother had to take it.  My maternal grandmother did, too.  If you come here and want to be a citizen, you must take this oath seriously. We don't need people who intend to be terrorists.

Update: 4/23/13 Oregonian newspaper page A5:  The divorced parents are now in Russia.  Suleimanova is the aunt and lives in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan.  Their extended families live in Dagestan and Chechnya.  Dzhokar's mother, Zubeidat, was arrested in the US in June on charges of shoplifting.  Her native village was in a mountainous region of Dagestan, a hotbed of an ultraconservative strain of Islam called Wahabbism, introduced to the Caucasus in the 1990's by preachers and teachers from Saudi Arabia.  Her relatives now all live in Makhachkala and Kaspiisk.  Anzor, the father, said he was a lawyer.  Tamerlan had returned to the USA on July 17, 2012.  He had needed to get a new Russian passport but he did not pick up his new passport after applying for it in July in Dagestan when it was ready.  Supposedly that's why he had returned there.
