“And there before me was a second beast, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and eat your fill of flesh!’ from prophet Daniel 11:40.
Prophets have foreseen a great world conflict involving all the nations of the earth. It sounds like today's start of a 3rd World War with Russia and Ukraine that could involve the NATO countries and all the rest, eventually.
The predictions start with a crisis in the Mediterranean area leading to something like the ancient Roman empire that was composed of a 10 nation confederacy. This is to give rise to a Roman "Prince " that shall come. Was this the Arab nations against Israel? The Abrahamic Accords? Today's Russia? Iran? China? Who would the prince be? We do not have a replacement of the ancient Roman Empire, do we? I see a few that probably are "want-to be" Emperors, though, right now are "has beens". Certainly Putin of Russia could have been one of them. Another today is the Ayatolah of Iran. Could the 3rd possibly be the USA?
Prophet Daniel foresaw many parts of our future world. The Book of Daniel's central character is a Daniel, a Judean exile in Babylon, and his miraculous experiences that happened to him and his pious friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah at the courts of Nebuchadnezzar, Darius the Mede, and Belshazzar. They seem to be composed in 300 BCE. Chapters 7-12 are apocalyptic; the visions relate nominally to ancient times, but the reference seems to be to the 4 persecuting kingdoms of Babylonia, Media, Persia and Greece. they allude to historical events down to the period of Antiochus Epiphanes of Syria (not mentioned explicitly) whose wicked rule is to be succeeded by the kingdom of heaven.
He saw 3 kings subdued and the remaining 7 gave submission. Who are the 10 major counties of the world? USA, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China, Iran, and 3 more.
The 12 founding member countries of NATO are Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Members of NATO have agreed to a system of collective defense for its members.

This NATO program is designed to build trust between the organization and states in Europe and the former Soviet Union. Members of this program include former republics of the Soviet Union: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Members of Yugoslavia's former republics are Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Macedonia, and Serbia. European Union members of the program include Austria, Finland, Ireland, Malta, and Sweden. Finally, the European Free Trade Association member Switzerland is also part of the Partnership for Peace program.
This means that member states will step in and offer mutual defense when an outside party attacks one of the member states.
NATO also has what it calls aspiring members, who one day may join other states within NATO. This includes Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, and Ukraine. Twenty-one countries are members of NATO's Partnership for Peace program. It's gone from 12 to 21 nations and is growing. Russia's Putin feels threatened and has acted out with a horrific bloody destructive war against Ukraine to keep them out of NATO, or punishment for considering to join it.
Russia, out of defense, created the Warsaw Pact, a similar group to NATO for his lands made up of the Soviet Union and 7 republics in 1955 when West Germany joined up with NATO. Russia dissolved the group, expecting NATO to do the same, only they didn't, much to their shock. Now we have a Putin who has a persecution complex. .
Ezekiel was a 6th century BCE prophet, probably a member of tghe priestly family of Zadok. He may have served in the Temple before its destruction in 586 BCE, and was among those exiled before that date to Tel Abib on the river Kebar in babylonia where he prophecied over a period of at least 22 years from 592-570 BCE.
In 38 and 39 he saw a great battle that could be the forerunner of the expansion of said Empire from domination of the Mediterranean area to the role of a world empire that includes all the nations of the earth. 
Daniel 7:23 also has a hand in this prophecy. This sounds to me like Russia trying to bring back the days of Russia's USSR and dominate the world. Why not? Like Daniel, Ukraine is surrounded but there have been Russian soldiers, hungry, young, tired, unpaid, shocked giving up with Ukrainians allowing them to phone their mothers, others killed in the fight, even though the odds look like 1,000: 1 against Ukraine. Can they come out of it like Daniel was able? The Ukrainians are not willing to go back to "Russian-controlled days."
Chapters 38-39 foretell the climatic War of G0g and Magog, which will introduce the End of Days and the Messianic era. This is one reason why some Christians are so interested in israel, as this foresees the appearance of their Messiah. In it, G-g, from the land of Magog---allied with a multitude of nations----will advance to attack Israel in its own land. The war will end with the destruction of Israel's enemies and the promised Messianic era of bliss. Our ancient rabbi RAMBAM cautions readers against attempting to pinpoint the time and identity of the kingdoms discussed in this prophecy. The land of Israel is considered the NAVEL, or center of the world. Right away, I see this having already happened in the 1967 Six Day War. 
, Syria
The two chapters mentioned describe the invasion of the land of Israel by the armies of Russia and the nations that are associated with her. The Scriptures are plain that this is a military invasion and reveal many details about the situation existing at the time of that invasion. The dramatic outcome of the battle is the utter destruction of the army that invades the land of Israel. Written by the prophet Ezekiel, who himself was in exile from the land of Israel, this prophecy is believed to have been inspired by the Spirit of God. A natural question can be raised, however, inasmuch as this was written some 2,500 years ago, whether this passage has already been fulfilled or not.
So far, I don't see China in the prophecies at all except as one of the big 4 nations.
A 3rd aspect of these prophecies is a world struggle at the end of a great tribulation period happening just before the Moshiach/Messiah enters the picture. This is to be an entity differing amongst the 3 religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, but all three have felt that this appearance is due very soon, and each branch of religion sees different endings, of course.
This is to happen at a time when major sections of the world will rebel against the Empirical ruler as their leader. Who is looking for world domination? Who's pulling the strings of world domination? Is there one entity behind all the presidents of the nations? I don't think there's any behind Zelensky in Ukraine. He's not a politician. He's a comedian first, a very sincere president as well doing his very best. A gigantic world war will ensue with the Holy Land of Israel as its focal point. (Daniel 11:40-45;)

The military forces which meet in Israel are described as coming from the North, the East, and the South. all of these forces seem to be in opposition to the world leader who may be called the King of the West, but this is only an assumption or educated guess. 
Daniel summarizes the world struggle of power that is to end the age by saying, “And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over” (Daniel 11:40).
The king of the North raises the question concerning Russia and other countries to the North of Israel which figure in this final world-wide war. The prophecies of Ezekiel concerning a great invasion of Israel from the North back Daniel's prophecy.
As close as it is happening, Ukraine has a Jewish president, though it probably has changed 100% from the country it had been under Russian dominance to that of the Holy Land. 
Russia has had a rise in world prominence. At the end of WWII, Russia was crushed as a nation, their manpower destroyed, its cities were in ruin. It would have been defeated but the USA stepped up and helped this country. 
Russian stocks crashed an a ruble worth less than a penny
Man is able to change the course of events, and surely has by all the sanctions against Russia today after invading Ukraine, making it already a crushed nation itself by keeping out all its financial assets. Give him enough rope and Putin is hanging himself from being a world dominating ruler.
Since WWII, Russia recovered and has become a prominent 20th Century nation with world-wide heavy-handed influence which few nations have ever achieved since the Roman Empire. Russia has been one of the principal competitors of the USA for world fame and world leadership.
Through their communism, forced upon the world or naively accepted, almost half of the world's population is in some sense or other in agreement with communism so is in Russia's orbit. This orbit is godless of any sort-whether it be a belief in one G-d or many gods, and this has happened since the world was a believer of all sorts of of gods. They have done away with all of them. 
How amazing that a few men, called prophets, from about 2,500 years ago, had the skill to look into the future without attending any college history classes and predict the future of the world. This indeed is mind-blowing. Also mind-blowing is the fact that though these events have already happened in a past time-period, they also seem to be rehappening again in our time period. They say that history repeats. It must be. 
The quote is most likely due to writer and philosopher George Santayana, Spanish philosopher (1863-1952) and in its original form it read, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Santayana was known for aphorisms, and for being a professor in philosophy at Harvard which he abandoned.
