Why A State of Palestine Is Not the Answer to the Arab-Israeli Conflict

Nadene Goldfoot
Israel 1947 with announcement at UN of statehood

The Arabs rejected the UN partition plan that would create a state of Palestine in 1947.

29 November 1947 until signing of Armistice Agreement in 1949, War of Independence with statehood on May 14, 1948  Israel was invaded by regular armies of Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and a Saudi-Arabian contingent.  Israel won, but 6,000 Israelis were killed.  They had managed to drive back the Arab armies.  These agreements didn't hold.
Judea and Samaria and Gaza were ruled by Arabs from 1948 to 1967.  They never had any thought during those 19 years of having a need for another 49th Muslim state in the world, let alone in the Middle East out of Palestine.  It is ironic that the Arabs have demanded that Israel do much in these 3 areas that they never considered doing while under their occupation.

At least up until 1992, the US opposed the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.  President Bush (2001-2009)  himself had said this on January 17, 1991, printed in the Washington Post.

Hamas
Fatah (former PLO)
The thought was at that time that" such a state would become a radical nation dominated by the PLO or Islamic extremists such as Hamas."  Since then, Hamas terrorists in Gaza have won their first election, insisted on by the USA, and they now have a permanent hold there and rule.

Even then in 1991, people saw the strong support for Iraq was being shown by the Palestinians living in Judea and Samaria and Gaza (the territories) during the Gulf War that the USA was embroiled in.  That was the sort of radicalism that would probably develop  in their Palestine.

Palestinians aiming for Ashkelon, Israel
Another danger seen by all was that a Palestinian state could be a base in another future war for Arab nations that had still refused to make peace with Israel.  The last big war Israel faced was the 1973 War, and there have been several Intifadas and constant barrages of mortars, missiles and rockets from Gaza since then.  From their actions seen and heard, there is no show of bringing about peace with Israel.

Beit El (Hebrewבֵּית אֵל‎) is an Israeli settlement and local council located in the Binyamin Region of Judah (the West Bank). The Orthodox Jewish town is located in the hills north of Jerusalem, east of the Palestinian city of al-Bireh, adjacent to Ramallah, which was founded in 716 by Arabs, considered the Arab capital.  It's population in 1990 was 44,500 including 7,500 Arabs.
To Israelis citizens who have moved to Judea and Samaria and east Jerusalem, they are now living in their original land of Israel and care to do so out of religious obligations they have.  Here are sites of their religion.  To the Israeli military, they see Judea and Samaria  as defensive positions for their tiny 8,000 sq miles of Israel.  Possession of these lands deters Arab attacks from even being considered along the "eastern front."  This fact comes out of the Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies notes.  In 1991, an" Arab coalition attacking from the east of the Jordan, which would be Jordan itself, would face a very difficult fighting conditions as it would be fighting uphill from the lowest point on the face of the earth;  the Dead Sea and the Rift Valley that runs below it."  It is these mountain ranges in Judea and Samaria that are "Israel's main line of defense against Arab armies from the east.

Menachem Begin, Jimmy Carter and President Sadat of Egypt
signed September 17, 1978.
Autonomy of the Palestinian Arabs was never thought of as a permanent solution to the animosity and killings by the Arabs, either.  It was a temporary measure as envisioned in the Camp David Accords.  Egypt, Israel and any Palestinian Arabs and Jordanians that wanted to take part could negotiate the formation of a self-governing authority that would administer the territories for 5 years.  This is how the Palestinian Authority (PA) were created.  Jimmy Carter signed, and had been president of the USA from 1977 to 1981.

The Palestinian Authority was formed in 1994, pursuant to the Oslo Accords between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the government of Israel, as a five-year interim body.
In 1982, Israel offered to transfer a many of the administrative powers in Judea and Samaria and Gaza to a Palestinian self-governing authority.  Israel agreed to give up power to the PA in no fewer than 25 important areas.  They were in taxation, budget, civil service, commerce, environment, education, finance, labor and housing.  The American delegation to the negotiations saw that the parties were 80% of the way to an agreement and that problems remaining could be resolved at the negotiating table.

Born in 1934 in Palestine, Walid Ahmed Nimer al-Naser went by
alias of Abu Ali Iyad, a senior
Palestinian field commander based in Syria and Jordan during the 1960s and early 1970s..
WRONG.  The PLO under Arafat opposed Camp David and they assassinated Palestinians who showed a willingness to talk with Israelis.  Abu Iyad denounced "people of weak character" who "might be tempted to participate in the conspiracy of autonomy."  Remember, the Arab heads had attended their own Kartoum Conference right after losing the 1967 War and had sworn to say no to 3 things; and that was no to peace with Israel.

President Sadat of Egypt made the wonderful decision to visit Israel and speak to the people in 1977.  From that time on till the summer of 1982, the PLO committed many political murders in its campaign to derail the peace process.  That wasn't all they were killing.   One thing--this was when I lived close to the northern boarder in Safed, and I remember our IDF having to go up our hill and through Safed to the north where the Lebanese Christians, led by Major Haddad,  were allowed by Sharon to go into the Palestinian camp to stop them from all the shelling they had been doing to northern Israel.  They did, and Israel was blamed for a slaughter. It was called the Sabra and Shatilla Massacre.   They had been bombing Israel constantly.  My friend had gone further north to a department store we all loved in Kiriat Shimona and was trapped there in a bomb shelter.  We didn't know what had happened to her.
Moshe Dayan, Sadat, Begin

Anwar Sadat (1918-1981)
President of Egypt 1970-1981
It was he who launched the Yom Kippur War against Israel in 1973.
By 1977 he initiated a peace process with Israel and addressed the Knesset,
Signed a peace treaty in 1979 with Israel
Assassinated by Moslem extremists while reviewing a military parade in Cairo
At any rate, the talks collapsed when it was seen that Egypt, who had been negotiating for the Palestinians, did not want to continue talking for them.  Then Sadat was himself assassinated and the Lebanon War ended the hopes of reviving the negotiations in the early 1980's.

Jews Living in Judea and Samaria
Camp David had decided on a 5 year period of time for the Palestinians to govern themselves.

Prime Minister Menachem Begin had agreed to a 3 month moratorium on Israelis coming into their ancient land and establishing any new homes.  Begin kept his agreement.  The Israel position was backed by Anwar Sadat who said, "We agreed to put a freeze on the establishment of settlements for the coming 3 months, the time necessary in our estimation for signing the peace treaty."  So even though Egypt was a major leader of the Arab world, even they saw it was time to call an end to the animosity the Muslims had felt for the new Jewish nation who had returned to their homeland.  He had made peace and thought the Palestinians should, too!!  The Camp David Agreement was signed on September 17, 1978 after 12 days of secret talks.  In September 1980, we made aliyah to Israel.

Today they also have to worry about the other 3 sides as well:  ships from the Mediterranean on the west; missiles from Lebanon in the north; and the armies coming through Egypt in the south.  However, Egypt signed a peace agreement and they have been doing well.  So has Jordan.

Our Scattered Jews Who Needed Israel ASAP

Nadene Goldfoot
The MS St. Louis was a German ocean liner most notable for a single voyage in 1939, in which its captain, Gustav Schröder, tried to find homes for 908 Jewish refugees from Germany and took them to Cuba.

The ship sailed from the port of Site, near Marseilles, on July 11, 1947, with 4,515 immigrants, including 655 children, on board.
Of course the very first Jews that had been scattered like leaves in the wind in the world were those caught in the Holocaust and couldn't get into a country that would receive them.  The ship, St. Louis is a good example.  "On May 13, 1939, the German transatlantic liner St. Louis sailed from Hamburg, Germany, for Havana, Cuba. On the voyage were 937 passengers. Almost all were Jews fleeing from the Third Reich. Most were German citizens, some were from eastern Europe, and a few were officially "stateless."" They were denied entry into Cuba and returned to Germany to face death.

The ship, "Exodus," is another such example. "The ship Exodus 1947 became a symbol of Aliya Bet — illegal immigration. After World War II, illegal immigration increased and the British authorities decided to stop it by sending the ships back to the ports of embarkation in Europe. The first ship to which this policy was applied was the Exodus 1947."  This was the opposite of what the British were to do to the Jews according to the mandate.  This situation was a matter of life or death and the Brits chose death for the Jews.

Israel's population May 1948 was 650,000.  Amazingly, Moses went into their Promised Land with Joshua in the lead position with 601,730 at their 2nd census during their 40 year march from Egypt to Canaan.  They had lost 1,820 along the way from the 1st census.  The 2nd Israel of 1948's population were made up of families who had never left the land and families that had returned from exile by the Romans.  They had been in the Diaspora.
From May 1948 to the end of 1951, 754,800 olim returned to Israel.  The population more than doubled in 3 years.

1.  Europe's Jewish Holocaust refugees, remnants of Jewish communities in:
      a. Poland
     b. Bulgaria
     c. Czechoslovakia

2. Arab country's Jewish communities:
    a. 121,000 of 130,000 of Jews in Iraq
    b.  44,000 of 45,000 of Jews in Yemen
    c.  30,500 of 35,000 of Jews in Libya

From 1955 to 1957
   d.  165,000 Jews from
.         I.  Morocco
        II. Tunisia
       III. Poland
       IV. Other countries
         V. Romania under a family reunification plan: Many Romanians had come in first Aliyot
Jews were no longer able to stay in Middle East countries once Israel declared their statehood.  They were then refugees.

From 1961 to 1964
 e. 215,056 Jews from mainly:
        I. Eastern Europe
       II. North Africa

Since Six Day War of June 1967

f. New Wave of Immigration from:
      I. North America
    II.  South America
  III.  Western Europe
  IV.  Soviet Union

By End of 1972, about 200,000 Jewish immigrants had arrived.
The total population of Israel was now 2 1/2 million.  By May 1972 it was 3,164,000.  (1,400,000 were immigrants (olim).

700,000 Jews came as destitute  refugees from Moslem countries.
The number is the same as that of the Palestinian Arabs who became refugees in 1948 when their leaders told them to leave their homes in Jerusalem and other Israeli towns to get out of the way and leave a clear road for the Arab armies attacking the Jews.

Integration Problems

While Israel was an infant state, their population had doubled.  They were fighting their War of Independence at the time and had an austere economy.  Immigrants had to be housed in Tent-Camps "Ma'baot."  They were temporary spaces of primitive huts in a hot climate-something worse that even the Middle Eastern Jews didn't come from.

Jobs were scarce.  Refugees had to live on welfare grants on the subsistence wages for work on public welfare projects.

By 1973, immigrants were taken directly to new homes or to absorption centers where they study Hebrew.  Most found work quickly.

Haifa, Israel
The city had Jews since the beginning, but Arabs had populated it and Haganah took it back on April 22, 1948 after Arabs attacked in 1947 after League of Nations accepted a Jewish state.  The Arabs fled.  Now it's a main port of Israel and a center of industrial development.  Here is the Cave of Elijah, the tomb of Baha Effendi and is the religious center of the Bahai.  The University of Haifa opened in 1970.
My husband, myself and our female German shepherd made aliyah in 1980.  Arrangements were made with our handsome Shaliach at the Jewish Community Center.  We were going over as experienced teachers from the USA.  We arrived at the absorption center in Haifa and studied Hebrew 6 days a week for 10 months and then took a 3 hour test.  Passing gave us a teaching certificate.  I taught in the junior high and my husband taught in a high school.  We witnessed the arrival of Ethiopians who were placed in Safed, which was on high ground and cold in the winter, which was  where we lived in an apartment across the street.  This was in about 1984.  Russian immigrants arriving earlier were placed in desert locations or if lucky, in Tel Aviv.  It all depended on available empty apartments.  In our apartment building, we had Jews from the Middle East and another American family as well as Jews of eastern Europe.  They all spoke Hebrew much better than we did!

Israelis my Syrian Jewish friend might have met while he was diving in
Taba and Dahab, Egypt  and met Israelis doing the same thing in September 2013.
This port was in Israel's hands; given back in peace deal to the Egyptians.
Israelis now had the problem of cultural integration though we all came from Jacob's family most likely and shared the same Israel-Judea history, half of the new immigrant came from Moslem countries in North Africa and Asia where they had lived in conditions of poverty.  Basic Values were of a traditional and authoritarian society and prided themselves in having large families.  Jews had been held down, treated as DHIMMIS.  Though Jews were also known as "people of the book,' they were also regarded as infidels and had to acknowledge openly the superiority of the true believer--the Muslim.  The title of dhimma-meaning a writ of protection, can be asked," Protected against whom?"  So many laws kept them down and apart and unable to gain any education, depending on the country, of course.

All go into the IDF(Israel Defense Force)  and serve their country.  It's a great way to mix
the cultures and remind them they are all of one country.
Jews had been living in Iraq, Yemen, Egypt and Libya for over 2,000 years and their ancient Jewish communities have almost disappeared now.  Only a few Jews remain in Poland, Hungary and Romania where the Holocaust had wiped them out this substantial minority group.

The Questioning of Trump's Former Foreign Policy Advisor, Carter Page

Nadene Goldfoot
Carter Page, about 45 years old foreign policy advisor to Donald Trump
during candidacy in running for President of USA in March 2016.

Some Democrats are making a big deal out of the fact that one of Donald Trump's foreign policy advisors when running for president was a young man named Carter Page.  He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  Democrats think he's some sort of Russian spy or favors Russia over the USA, so this makes Donald unworthy of being the US President, being Russia is our enemy.

First of all, I think the public forgets that this young man graduated our Naval Academy.  This is not any old hodunk college in Central City, USA.  "The United States Naval Academy (also known as USNA, Annapolis, or simply Navy) is a four-year coeducational federal service academy in Annapolis, Maryland, United States. It is the second oldest of the United States' five service academies, and educates officers for commissioning primarily into the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps
Candidates for admission generally must both apply directly to the academy and receive a nomination, usually from a Member of Congress. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as midshipmen. Tuition for midshipmen is fully funded by the Navy in exchange for an active duty service obligation upon graduation."  It is an honor to be accepted at our Naval Academy.  He must have been a pretty good student to be accepted.

Seal of the USA Marine Corps
" The Washington Post reported that he served as a Marine intelligence officer in Western Sahara,  whereas RT quoted Page as saying that he served with the Navy."
Marines are part of the Navy; thus the word, marine-a word relating to the sea.  Marines
"are responsible for providing power projection, using the mobility of the United States
Navy, by Congressional mandate, to deliver ... This man was actually a Marine!  Carter is one
of ""The Few, The Proud, The Marines", "Jarheads", "Devil Dogs", ""Leathernecks."  So now
he's being accused of being a spy or some other unsavory character?   I guess they never watch NCIS on TV.  As far as our Hotel executive goes, President elect Trump only knew that this former Marine had knowledge about Russia that could be helpful to him.

President Elect Trump: big day is on the 20th of January, a Friday
Wouldn't you know it that Carter is also a business man to have caught Trump's eye.  Carter Page (born 1971 or 1972) is an American oil industry consultant  He is the founder and managing partner of Global Energy Capital, a New York investment fund and consulting firm specializing in the Russian and Central Asian oil and gas business."
This is of huge magnitude as far as having knowledge goes so is a good person to speak with.  Russia's big interests are in oil and gas; thus their interests in the Middle East and why they are bombing ISIS.

According to his company's biography, Page worked as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch in London, New York and from 2004 to 2007 in Moscow, where he worked on transactions involving Gazprom and other leading Russian energy companies."He started at the bottom level.  According to business people interviewed by Politico in 2016, Page's work in Moscow was at a subordinate level, and he himself remained largely unknown to decision-makers.

Page founded his own investment fund, Global Energy Capital, in 2008; his other partner is former Gazprom executive Sergei Yatsenko. The fund operates out of a co-working space in Manhattan, and is registered to Page's father's address."

Now Sergei Yatsenko is the one I am interested in. It's not a common name in the USA.   His name is Russian but it looks like his heart is in the Middle East.  His biography said, "Graduated from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in 1995.  He was born May 21, 1958 in Ukraine and his father was an artist.  They moved to Estonia.  He immigrated to the USA in 1989.

In 2002 founded "SCYTHIAN (FZE)" - art & design works in United Arab Emirates.

How many Navy Academy graduates go into the investment business after graduation must be a small number, but Carter must have found something that interested him and gives him some background to advise Trump about when dealing with Russia.

Carter Page was one of 5 of Donald's foreign policy advisors.  Donald's favorite learning technique seems to be to collect people and ask them questions  in order to learn about matters.  The government's technique is
also the same.  Donald will soon be advised by them.  At least now he has a background on this important subject.

"In September 2016, U.S. intelligence officials were reported to investigate alleged contacts between Page and Russian officials subject to U.S. sanctions, including Igor Sechin.   Page rejected the accusations and said he would "take a leave of absence" from Trump's campaign.".

Russia happens to be THE LARGEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.   They have 140 million people.  Moscow is one of the largest cities in the world.  It is so big, that it "shares land borders with NorwayFinlandEstoniaLatviaLithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), BelarusUkraineGeorgiaAzerbaijanKazakhstanChinaMongolia, and North Korea. It shares maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk and the U.S. state of Alaska across the Bering Strait.  The United States is the 3rd most populated country in the world with 325,110,000 million.

Trump was wise to seek out people who knew something about making deals in Russia.  It doesn't mean he's a Russian of any sort. It means that he became successful by learning as much as possible from others about matters which will be of importance to his work.   He's a man very proud to become the President of the United States of America.

Gosh, I wish Obama had been like this concerning Israel.  He's been stuck on pushing Israel back to the 67 Armistice lines for years and didn't pay attention at all when Netanyahu explained diligently to him why that was an impossible task for them.  Whoever has Obama listened to in learning facts about Israel?  Hmm?

One thing Reed College of Portland, Oregon (The Yale of the West)  has taught their students is to ask, What's your source?  Now Trump should  be able to ask some pertinent intelligent questions about his future dealings with Russia.

Watching C Span Debate Israel's Position on Living in Judea and Samaria

Nadene Goldfoot

Our Congress commenced today, this first day of the new year of 2017 and what were they talking about?  Israel.  They were debating a resolution backing Israel's position after Obama shocked everyone with Kerry voting against Israel at the UN, and then having the Chutzpa to defend this stand afterwards, breaking a 30 some year practice to be defensive for the tiny Democratic state of Israel who is fighting for her life.

The Democrats were against Israel while I was watching, and the last I noticed was from Vermont.  They are aghast that 600,000 Jews now live in their ancient homeland and think it is strictly land for the Palestinians to claim as Palestine.  Good Grief!

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel meeting with Arab citizens
Does anyone realize that there are 1.7 million Arabs living in Israel?  They are full citizens with every right anyone else has there.  May I remind our people that there is but one Israel and 49 Muslim majority states already?  Yet another Muslim state, Palestine, is to be 100% Muslim?

Why do these  Democratic Congressmen allow a Palestine to be strictly Muslim without any Jews living there at all and yet it's fine that Israel is so Democratic to have so many Muslims living among them?  No one has brought this fact up.

Is the United States all one religion like England started off to be?  One had to be Episcopalian there.  That's why the Pilgrims left in 1620.  So that's okay for the Palestinians because they have already stated it will be Judenrein, like Germany wanted to be.  If Israel can hold 1.7 Arabs in their 8,000 sq miles of land, why can't the Palestinians have 600,000 Jews in their Palestine I'd like to know?  Why is it that whatever they want--no one questions it?

Israel has already done this with Gaza and got in return land holding families to be turned into an arsenal and platform in their backyard in which to shell Israel from.

Your argument is so lame.  Israel has the right to have as many Jews living in their own ancient homeland as they wish.  It was their land originally and was granted to them again by all the nations of the world who belonged to the League of Nations.  It was granted state's rights again by the UN.  International lawyers such as Professor Eugene Kontorovich have stated that Israel is in the right to do so.  They had been attacked in an aggressive war by a gang of armies and they won.  That means everything.  It means they now have their own land back, despite what Europe thinks.

Listen, world.  Europe has never been fair to the Jews.  We have suffered anti-Semitism for thousands of years.   It's time you realize that your pronouncement against Israel is age-old anti-Semitism and you have not-through the United Nations of today, been treating Israel fairly at all.

It has always been Israelis who have fought their wars.  No American has ever had to fight for them.  It was Israelis who fought in 1967 when 5 countries attacked them.  It was Israelis who won the battle allowing their families to finally be able to visit the Wailing Wall and the Temple Mount where their Temple of Solomon had once stood.
Israel expects borders which will be defensible, not the 1967 Armistice borders, that will not constitute a temptation to a potential aggressor as did these pre-1967 lines.  Israel has, since 1967, offered to negotiate with the Arab Governments a true peace which would also provide for secure borders.  Israel has insisted that it makes no prior conditions, and that everything will be open for discussion in the negotiations.  Israel must have a few positions on where the secure borders ought to be.  Israel has never wanted to annex a large Arab population , but its position is that the River Jordan should no longer be open to crossing by Arab troops and that, to assure this, there must be an Israeli foothold in the Jordan Valley.  These conditions  are as they stood in 1973.  Now, 2017 is upon us; Forty-four years have since passed.  Arabs have been attacking during these years.  Peace has been wanted by Israel but the Arabs still opt for attacking them.  And the Chutzpa of it all is that the world, including some in Congress, expect Israel to sign on any paper for a 2-state solution.  They expect nothing from the Arabs!

Israel has been most fair to all their people as the Republicans who spoke today explained.  They said much that you  Democrats were not listening to.  I've never been so ashamed of a group of people in my life as the Democrats who spoke today against Israel.  I'm certainly glad I switched over years ago from being a Democrat to a Republican.  What used to be a party for Jews is sticking it to them and they don't even realize it in their desperation to defend their party.  Who is the party who is hurt by it?  Israel.  May the Republicans win their debate today.

What Would David Ben Gurion Say to John Kerry About Israel?

Nadene Goldfoot
August 16, 1948 issue
David Ben Gurion (Oct. 16, 1886-Dec 1, 1973)
Prime Minister of Israel

Newsvine website out of Seattle, Washington, has come up with an article saying that David Ben Gurion, one of Israel's founding fathers and true Zionist, was in agreement with John Kerry's UN speech condemning Israel.  Newsvine is owned by NBC.  They are rather leftist in their comments, and naturally would be defending Kerry and Obama.  Everything comes down to what party, the left or the right,  the  writers are on.

The writer of this article was Gershom Gorenberg. He was basing his supposition on one thing:  "The founding prime minister of Israel had rejected a proposal by Gen. Yigal Allon to conquer the West Bank, and instead signed an armistice agreement with Trans-Jordan.  (I didn't notice this statement in his speech to the Knesset.  It may have come up in the rebuttle from one of the Knesset members.

Did Gershom Gorenberg ever consider the date of  1949 being quite a different time from 2016?  Population numbers were different then, too.   Ben Gurion never stopped being a leader of Zionism, but the time wasn't right then to conquer the West Bank-which we refer to with it's real names of Judea and Samaria.  West Bank was a name given to this area by the Jordanians.  It's the land on the west side of the Jordan River.  It's the land given to the tribe of Judah by Moses and then Joshua.  We Jews are from the tribe of Judah, and some of Benjamin.

The article was listed as something Gurion said on April 4, 1949.  I had to search for a while, then found it listed as something Gurion said to his Knesset on that date.  He was talking about how they had handled agreements after their War of Independence.  It was a debate period as after his speech, others commented and had their say.

Ben Gurion spoke first about having the agreements with the island of Rhodes.  They had already done agreements with Egypt, Lebanon and Transjordan.  He realized these were only decisions concerning the war and had nothing to do with their political decisions.  It was about 4 pages long, and I could not copy or print it out.

David Ben Gurion immigrated to Palestine from Poland in 1906.   He had high hopes then.
A very active man, he entered leadership roles immediately.
I saw nothing connecting what Kerry had condemned Israel about and Ben Gurion's speech that was used as a reference to back Kerry's crazy position.

A lot of water has gone under the bridge since 1949.  Evidently the countries couldn't be held to their word, since they all attacked Israel again and again after  The War of Independence that started on November 29, 1947 and ended in 1949.  About 5 minutes after Israel declared itself a state on May 14, 1948, Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and also a Saudi- Arabian contingent  continued attacking.

This war had begun as a civil war between the Arab and Jewish communities of the land after November 29, 1947.  The war was started by the Arabs who refused to accept the UN partition resolution.  From the beginning fo April 1948, units of Arab irregulars crossed into the country from Syria, Lebanon and Egypt to reinforce local Arabs in their attacks upon Jewish localities and in an attempt to block the roads.

On May 14, 1948, the territory of Israel was invaded by the regular armies of Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and the Saudi contingent.  Azzam Pasha, Secretary-General of the Arab League, announced in Cairo of their intention to exterminate the Jews and they planned to massacre them all.  The attack would be like the Mongolian massacres and Crusades.

I shudder to realize that these people wanted to emulate the worst of the worst people of history and saw nothing wrong with such blood-letting.  And what did the Jews do to them to deserve such hatred, to make them so terribly blood-thirsty?

They finally returned, like the swallows of Capistrano, to their own native land after 2,000 years of being treated like drek, (dirt), in so many countries and at so many periods during these years.  They had been constantly crucified by people who had taken up Christianity and turned a hatred upon Jews who they were told had killed their god.

Whereas the Muslims, who had become such in about 620, had been friendly to Jews without a home that knew peace,  changed radically with the instigation of their leader who had been given political power by the Brits, Haj Amin al-Husseini, the new Sherif in town; Sherif of Jerusalem.  He wasn't about to give it up at the end of the Brit's mandate.  They attacked the Jews in a pogrom in 1929, a year carrying disappointment and suicides all the way from the USA with their crash of the stock market.

Kerry's remarks of his self defense just don't hold water.  Obama will go down as the worst president since  Jimmy Carter for the security of Israel.  Both are Democrats, too.  Carter's worst for Israel came out in the books he wrote after his presidency.  It's like a freudian slip for both of them.  Obama's worst for Israel comes days before his 2nd term is ending.  Here's what both did.

Obama's dealings:  Last Friday, the U.S. abstained from UN Security Council Resolution 2334, allowing it to pass, after vetoing a similar resolution in 2011. Resolution 2334 declares the Israeli presence in areas won from Jordan in the defensive Six Day War in 1967 — including the Old City of Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) — to be illegal.  Effectively, it denies Jewish claims to historical and religious sites that have been holy to, and inhabited by, Jews for millennia.
Carter's dealings:  A similar resolution in 1979, UN Security Council Resolution 446 — from which then-President Jimmy Carter also abstained, allowing it to pass — declared that settlements in the West Bank “have no legal validity and constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East.” However, Resolution 2334 goes further, specifically including “East Jerusalem” as a “settlement,” and calling settlements “a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace” (emphasis added).
Both men should have checked with Professor Eugene Kontorovich, international lawyer who teaches at Northwestern University in Illinois. Northwestern University (NU) is a private research university based in Evanston,Illinois, with campuses in ChicagoIllinois; and Doha, Qatar.   He would tell them that Israel has the right to live on land won in the 1967 attack on them by the Arab nations.  Incidentally, the land was promised to Israel in the 1st place and Jordan had stolen it after gaining land east of the Jordan River with the British nod of approval.  Yes, the British mandate holders were to help Jews create the Jewish Homeland with Palestine, not give away 80% of it which they did.

Now, what do you think David Ben Gurion would say about it all today to know that Israel was still defending their right to survive after 69 years?
