Scapegoat of United Nations After All These Years

After 4,000 years of being the scapegoat of the world, the position continues for Israel within the United Nations and their representative countries.  It looks like old habits die hard.

• A scapegoat is someone outside of your group who also stands out from the social norm. The group then uses these scapegoats to transfer blame and negative emotions because they do not share the desires of the group. This blame, negative emotion, or fundamental truth is something the group does not want to acknowledge internally, so the blame is transferred to the scapegoat. 
• In an instant, the problems of the group are gone because of the transfer of blame onto the scapegoat. Since scapegoats are identified as the root cause of the problem, they create a sense of relief, healing, and even protection for the group.  A psychologist calls this
• a natural thing to do.  Not for 4,000 years, I sure don't think so.  

It has now become an unwritten declaration that Israel is the cause of Hamas starvation even though Netanyahu and his spokesmen have explained over and over what the truth happens to be;  another form of attack on Israel with false witnessing of Israel depriving Hamas population of food.  They are blaming Israel for group starvation.  

I call the civilian population also Hamas because the terrorists do not wear their uniforms while fighting.  They hide behind civilian clothing, civilian people and their children in crowds, schools,, mosques, and especially hospitals.  They hide in the miles long passageways of tunnels they have dug.  They are the siblings, parents, grandparents, great grandparents of the present-day terrorists.                                

Hamas was founded in 1987 by Palestinian cleric Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and others in the Gaza Strip. The group emerged at the beginning of the First Intifada, a Palestinian uprising against the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Go back further and you have Yasser Arafat with his PLO Palestine Liberation Organization from 1969 to 2004

 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied accusations of starvation in Gaza, stating that Israel has a policy of preventing starvation and is allowing humanitarian aid to enter.

He and other Israeli officials have repeatedly dismissed reports of famine, which they characterize as politically motivated propaganda orchestrated by Hamas. This stance, articulated in speeches and statements, stands in sharp contrast to the conclusions of numerous UN agencies and international humanitarian organizations. 

Netanyahu's defense against starvation accusations:

In multiple statements and speeches, including at an event for evangelical Christians in July 2025, Netanyahu has made the following points: 

"No starvation in Gaza": He has insisted that no one is starving in Gaza and that images of emaciated people are part of a fabricated "starvation campaign".

• "No policy of starvation": Netanyahu explicitly states, "Israel does not have a policy of starvation; Israel has a policy of preventing starvation".
• Blame on Hamas: He has blamed Hamas for the aid crisis, accusing the militant group of stealing aid deliveries.
• Blame on aid agencies: Netanyahu has also pointed fingers at international aid agencies, such as the UN, for failing to distribute aid effectively.
•                  Allegations regarding UNRWA staff
  Following Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, Israel alleged that a small number of employees of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) were involved. 
  • Specific accusations: An Israeli dossier accused a dozen UNRWA employees of involvement in the attack, including alleged kidnappings.
  • UN response: The UN swiftly condemned the allegations and fired nine of the accused staffers based on information it deemed sufficient for their termination.
  • Internal investigation: An internal UN investigation by the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) concluded in August 2024. It found that nine staff members "may have been involved" in the attacks but could not independently verify most of the information provided by Israel.
• The latest found are terrorists moonlighting as journalists. If youare wearing a "Press" vest. they found safety in carrying out theirkilling.  They are like the few doctors who have also been foundto be terrorists at heart.  It's very disappointing all the wayaround.

• Disputes IPC report: After the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a UN-backed authority on food security, declared a famine in parts of Gaza in August 2025, Netanyahu's office called the report an "outright lie" and a "modern blood libel".
• Cites aid deliveries: He has cited the amount of aid Israel claims to have enabled into the Gaza Strip, stating that over 2 million tons of aid have entered since the beginning of the war.

• I say, look at Israel's history of teaching other countries
• agricultural methods, always offering aid to countries in trouble, with favorite word being L'Chaim (to life) or Essen (Yiddish for EAT).  Shame on countries thinking that Israel would starve children.  Hamas knows this and purposely uses it to harm Israel's reputation by starving their own people to put blame on Israel, and of course,---everyone jumps at the chance to blame their favorite scapegoat!!!

Hamas Rioting Causes Deaths of Civilians Getting Food And Who Gets Blamed?

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) said Tuesday that 20 people were killed in what it described as a “tragic incident” near a food distribution site in Khan Younis. According to the organization, 19 of the victims were trampled to death and one was fatally stabbed amid what it called “a chaotic and dangerous surge, driven by agitators in the crowd.” Hamas terrorists reportedly caused the chaos. 

As horrid as this report is, the first to be blamed by the world is Israel, as I heard the new reporters in Portland kvetch about how horrid, and they hate to hear this...etc.  

First of all, how reliable is this report?  This is a problem of false reporting that has been going on from Hamas.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is an American organization, based in Delaware, established in February 2025 to distribute humanitarian aid during the ongoing Gaza humanitarian crisis. Backed by the Israeli and American governments, GHF began operating in May 2025 as a response to Israeli claims that aid was being diverted by Hamas.              

 It has been criticized by the United Nations and humanitarian groups (Groups never for Israel) for politicizing aid distribution, with well-established humanitarian groups saying the GHF is giving cover for Israel to pursue its aims to depopulate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and use starvation as a weapon of war, and its former head questioning the group's impartiality and neutrality upon his resignation.  In other words, you can't believe this report as Hamas fights against Israel this way.  None of this trash is true.

Special Rapporteur on Palestine, who accused Kemp of ignoring and misinterpreting international law.  My critique of Falk is that he is a waste.  

I ask, since Israel had a perfect history of being the most humane army in the world, why would they turn around, go against all the beliefs of Judaism and act in such a manner that makes us all disgusted?  But just look at what took place on October 7, 2023; of all the manner of killing that Hamas performed on the unaware citizens that were surprised in their attack and what happened to their very bodies and probably souls as well !!!  Just who has sworn to drive Israel into the Sea?  

Who has Palestinian civilians as citizens living in their land? Israel!  

Who is  trying to ruin Israel's reputation in order to gain world sympathy?  Hamas who are terrorists

Who has learned (brain washed) to hate Jews?  Hamas who are terrorists.  Who has an army who follows rules?  Israel.  

Who lies?  Hamas terrorists?  

Who is believing terrorists over people of the book (Laws-613 with the 1st 10 the most well known--.Jews)  The world !!!Aghhhhh.

Lies About a Jewish Heritage

                                   Me, a Jew  holding dual citizenship since I made aliyah in 1980, when I was in the States getting ready for Yom Kippur which is why I'm wearing white.  I'm a conservative Jew, taught in Sunday school from age 15 on; for a few years till college, and am a proud Jew who now writes about our amazing history;  a blogger.  I'm 88 now, and more than ever involved with out history and religion.  I'm like others, expecting the best out of our people to carry on our historic truths.  Talk about having Pride Parades, we need one just to feel proud of our heritage !  

George Santos has just come up with the lie of having Jewish grandparents and it's turned into an outrageous lie.  He's a public servant, so this was a lie to many.  He claimed they were Holocaust survivors, trying to gain sympathy from his voters for that bit of news.  A Santos in Ukraine, yet, was his claim.  I don't think he even knows that Santos is a Sephardic possibility, not an Ashkenazi one, and it was Ashkenazis in Ukraine, with Sephardics being most rare there.  

It he were intelligent, he would already have had a DNA test to find his roots.  I hope his voters, if anyone remains to be one, insists on his testing himself, and let the results come to someone else for verification of the truth.  I wouldn't trust him.  He's now saying his surname is Zabrovsky (sounds Ashkenazi).  Who knows?  DNA results can't hurt.  May I suggest FTDNA ?  That's my testing choice. 

In countries outside of Israel,  there are people with a Jewish heritage who refuse to admit it.  They are no longer practicing their ancestor's faith and want to be known as either Christians,  or today, even Moslems.  They deny profusely if told they have a Jewish heritage.  To them, it is embarrassing, and a hateful accusation.   

Many of us are proud Jews and are not afraid of letting people know;   some even going to the point of wearing Star of David necklaces in public without even knowing much about their own religion other than they were not Christians.  

The last thing imaginable is to find someone declaring in public to be Jewish and lie about it, using it as a positive statement about himself.  Of course, this has happened with a consummate liar bragging about himself!  This is not a person that Jews can be proud of.  Lying about every point of his life and saying he's Jewish puts Jews in a bad light.

We Jews have been around since the Exodus that Moses led who was born in 1391 BCE when he was 80 years old, so it began in 1,311BCE which was 3,334 years ago.  Israel was created again in 1948.  We've been the  scapegoat of the world's problems ever since, even blamed for the weather.  The last thing we need is a liar declaring he's Jewish or even Jew-ish, which this person has done in differing hours of the day.  His story has changed so.

Our days of beating the bushes for new people to join us was over long ago in the year of about 300 with the Romans who became Christians.  They didn't want competition and they were actually getting it from the Jews in those days.  The penalty was death for proselytizing, so we ended that.  One can marry a Jew and then convert, and there have been a few conversions that happen with individuals, but not many.

“Davis constructed a narrative of selfhood that defied the politics of ethnic inheritance.” He also made it part of his shtick: Black, Jewish, Puerto Rican (on his mother’s side), and one-eyed (he’d lost an eye in a 1954 car accident), playing with, and against, stereotypes: “When I move into a neighborhood, I wipe it out!”

And now I read that Blacks are the cause of most of the attacks on Jews today, showing more anti-Semitism than other groups.  It's come down to racial behaviors.  What's going on?  We need Sammy Davis more than ever.  

We have had a run on well-known, well educated Jews in the news for breaking the law lately.   Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former lawyer, was sentenced last month to three years in federal prison on fraud charges.  The minimum-security camp at the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, N.Y., has become an enclave for Jewish white-collar offenders.  At that, he was even a Cohen, which made it more tragic.  He wasn't any lawyer on the East Coast, he was a Cohen!!!  Cohens, in Judaism, were our leaders, direct descendants of Aaron, brother of Moses who was asked to be our head priest.  Descendants have been going ever since as leaders in the synagogue being first readers of the Torah; one of many positions they have.   I bet he knew nothing about this;  just being Trump's lawyer.  Otherwise, he would not be in such a position. 

One can be an important lawyer and an exemplary Jew as,  well,  like Alan Dershowitz, who knows as much about our Jewish history;   more than most Rabbis.  

It's shameful that our Jewish brethern have come to the following:What the minimum-security camp at the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, N.Y., does offer is a rarity in the federal prison system: a full-time Hasidic chaplain who oversees a congregation of dozens of Jewish inmates who gather for prayer services three times a day.  I hope it's required that any Jew there must attend.  I'm not that diligent an attender myself, and that's not the point.  I haven't gone off the deep end--at least as far as the laws of the USA go.  The behavior of these men is a shunda for the rest of the Jewish population. 

 It's one thing we have in common with the Chinese population in the USA.  They also are sensitive as to their Chinese reputation.  We Jews have always had an excellent reputation.  I guess it is a sign of being the end of the world with a Cohen actually in prison legitimately.  Maybe he also needs a DNA test to see if he has the right haplotype of other Cohens.  

Everyone, Jewish or not, should remember that they have family and should not want to bring embarrassment upon that family's present people or ancestors.  Then maybe they'd think twice before they robbed that store or killed another person.

Lies and Broken Promises in the Israel-Palestine War

Emir Feisal spoke at the Paris Peace Conference in February 1918.  He told his audience about the few train wreckings by his Bedouins but turned the story into an "advance of 800 miles by the Arab army of 100,000 men."  The actual truth was that his army of 600 men did move about 800 miles northward, but most of the advance took place only after the British, Australian and French forces, and later  the Jewish force, when they had already driven out the Turks.  He said they had 20,000 casualties but had taken 40,000 prisoners.  

As it turned out, Arab casualties and Turkish prisoners were only in the hundreds.

Most people do not realize that not all people on earth have been raised to tell the truth.  This seems to be one of the differences between the West and the East.  In this case, it was the West, the British, who encouraged and exploited the Eastern ways for their own ends when the occasion rose.

The Sherifian Arabs in the WWI and afterwards were allied with a British agent interested in the fabrication  of their own culture..  T.E. Lawrence was that man and he had found partners for  his historic adventure in telling lies.

This suited the British interests very well, for they held the mandate over Palestine.  A few of them were more interested in the vast oil deposits than they were in keeping their word.  They pulled the boner of the century by promising the same land to the Jews and the Arabs, and I suspect they figured the two of them could just battle it out.  It wasn't until 18 years later that the British Prime Minster, Lloyd George,  who had been present at Feisal's speech, described his numbers as "Oriental arithmetic."   The statement had already become the accepted fable as it was disseminated by the British and accepted by the world.  This was used as facts of the scope and impact of the "Revolt in the Desert."

"Lloyd George had told Edmund Allenby, who was appointed the new commander in Egypt in June, that his objective was "Jerusalem before Christmas" and that he had only to ask for reinforcements, although the exact nature of his offensives was still undecided when he was appointed. Amidst months of argument throughout the autumn of 1917 Robertson was able to block Lloyd George's plan to make Palestine the main theatre of operations by having Allenby make the impossible demand that thirteen extra divisions be sent to him.  Allenby captured Jerusalem in December 1917.  The Allies had won the 1st World War.  Palestine had belonged to the Ottoman Empire, which was part of the opposition or Axis that was mainly Germany.  By taking Jerusalem, the Allies had attacked the Ottoman Empire.  At the time, Lloyd George knew that Britain planned on turning ALL  of Palestine into the Jewish National Home.  Then again, it was Emir Abdullah who had helped them, so they also planned to not keep their promise and would give 75%+ of the land to Abdullah in payment for his fighting forces.  Britain naturally forgot that it was Chaim Weizmann who gave them his invention of making their ammunition as such  so powerful that they naturally would win the war by using it.  Chaim's Jews would wind up with 20-25% of their promised land instead of the whole piece.  So here we see the inclination of not keeping one's word or promise.  Broken promises seems to be as much a human failure as telling lies.  Who can one trust?  it used to be that that a man's word was all that was needed; a shake of hands and you  could trust them.  Not anymore.  

This tendency to fabricate facts showed up in 1967 with the Arab view of the events.  Their report was but a minimal relation to what was really happening--with only the truth that a war was in progress and that its scene was the Middle East.  The Arab report was that American and British pilots and planes were attacking their airfields.  The fact was that the Egyptian Air Force never left the ground, but Arab reports were that they were attacking Tel Aviv, Haifa and Netanya.

The truth was that this 6th day saw the loss of 19 planes counting all fronts,  but according to Arab reports, Israel had lost 160 planes on the 1st day alone.  Arabs reported gigantic tank battles in the Sinai desert with huge Israeli losses.  Their report had come out 2 and 3 days after Israeli forces had ovewhelmed the mass of Egyptian armor.  At the same time, tens of thousands of Egyptian soldiers were giving themselves up as prisoners or fleeing toward and across the Suez canal.

Readers and TV viewers thought the war was going very well for Egypt and Jordan and badly for Israel.  They thought Haifa and Netanya were  burning down.  Most all was extreme exaggeration.  Truth was that about 20 or 30 Israeli planes had been downed, but Haifa nor Tel Aviv or any other Israeli city had been bombed or attacked by Egypt.  2 shells hit Tel Aviv from Jordan.  One bomb hit Netanya by an Iraqi plane.  Such was the Oriental imagination that has been developing over the centuries.

Arab reports were assisted by foreign news media who spread their news.  The Russians, who early on in May had given Nasser "unfounded information" which I would call downright lies that Israel had massed forces for an attack on the Syrian border.  Then Russia have their own enthusiastic shpiel about Israeli disaster.  As it turned out, they were completely deceived themselves and had delayed the call for a cease-fire by the Security Council because they didn't want to prevent the complete defeat of Israel!  Such was their thoughts that Israel was being defeated.  The British Broadcasting Corporation served as the center for the Arab information services, publicly repeating even the most improbable of their reports and severely censoring the only version of the events from its reporter in Jerusalem that was the truth.  Many hours after the officer commanding the Israeli Air Force told of the destruction of the Egyptian Air Force, British newspapers were still debating whether Britain could stand aside and see Israel destroyed.

When Egypt's President Nasser claimed that British and American planes had bombed the Egyptian airfield and that Egyptian planes had bombed Israeli cities, he was misleading the world and especially the Arabs and himself because his own military chiefs were lying to him.  He misled King Hussein of Jordan.  Hussein's decision to attack Israel and to persist in the the attack-even after the Israeli Prime Minister had begged him not to do it, was probably based on his belief in Egyptian reports of all the destruction in Israel going on.

In telling lies, it's always the case that the inventor of the story starts to believe it himself.  An example from Arab folklore is the following story:
                                                                 

A man whose afternoon nap was disturbed by the noise of children playing in the courtyard below went out to the balcony and called, "Children, how foolish you are!  While you are playing here, they are giving away figs in the marketplace."  The children rushed off to collect their figs, and the man, pleased with his invention, went back to his couch.  But just as he was about to drop off, a troublesome thought aroused him:  "Here am I, lying around, when there are free figs to be had in the marketplace!"  

"A far more complex web of fiction has victimized the Jewish people."  Jews are people who have a history of telling the truth while Arabs have not.  Arab sociologist Sania Hamady wrote that lying is a widespread habit among the Arabs and they have a low idea of truth...The Arab has no scruples about lying if by it he obtains his objective...He is more interested in feeling than facts, in conveying an impression than in giving a report.  The Arab language, moreover, provides its users with the tool, for assertion (tarokid) and exaggeration (mubalong).  Then end result is that Arabs have colorful rules in communication.  Eli Shouby, Arabic scholar, wrote that "The Arabs are forced to over-assert and exaggerate in almost all types of communication, lest they be misunderstood.  If an Arab says exactly what he means without the expected exaggeration, his hearers doubt his stand or even suspect him of meaning the opposite.  Al-Ghazzali, 11th century Moslem theologian wrote:  "Know that a lie is not haram (wrong)  in itself, but only because of the evil conclusions to which it leads the hearer, making him believe something that is not really the case...If a lie is the only way of obtaining a good result, it is permissible....We must lie when truth leads to unpleasant results.  
                                                                     

Emir Feisal wasn't told the story about Pinocchio, about how when he told a lie, his nose would grow long. "Pinocchio is a hero of the children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio, an animated puppet, is punished for each lie that he tells by undergoing further growth of his nose. There are no restrictions on the length of Pinocchio's nose. It grows as he tells lies and at one point grows so long that he can not even get his nose "through the door of the room. "   It didn't seem to hurt Feisal in any way visible.  He went ahead and made use of the modern mass media.  When his people told a story, others naturally tended to accept their version.  Many people were persuaded to believe that the Arab terrorist organizations were daring bands of partisan or guerrilla fighters, springing out of the Arab population of Palestine, determined to "regain their lost homeland and suffering from an alien and cruel occupation.by Jews."  They gave out the line that they fought day and night from the underground bases provided by the sponsorship of the "Palestine nation";   and that they engaged in occupying Israeli army units who always had superior numbers and  tanks and planes.  They bragged that they had destroyed so many and that many Israeli soldiers were killed.  Making people believe they were brave guerrillas who could penetrate the heart of Israel seemed to be too easy.
                                                                   

These terrorists who were PLO's led by Arafat had propaganda to spread. Europeans and Americans are brainwashed into drama on TV or in books about liberation movements, underground or open of the past 30 years.  Little Israel's true facts of having had to wait for 2,000 years to regain by legal means their ancient land of origin, land given to them originally by G-d, with their whole history spelled out in the Bible-the Old Testament, seemed to the people on this planet nothing but a big fable. They would prefer to believe in Arafat's fables.   The true heroes for many Europeans today  are the PLO terrorists- turned into Hamas terrorists.  I wonder how well they are drawing the line with ISIS.

Today we have the same problems.  Lies are told by the Palestinians about their history and current situation and what they are doing with supplies, and people gobble up every lie they say as gospel truth.  The many Arab attacks, encouraged or permitted by the British from 1920 onward, gradually squeezed the majority of the Jews out of the Old City of Jerusalem and into the New.  In 1948, when their ammunition ran out, the final remnant and the handful of Jewish defenders surrendered to the Jordanians.  That was when the city was divided.  The Arabs had never attached any importance to living in Jerusalem.  Even when the Moslems ruled, for long period the majority was Christian.  After the middle of the 19th century, soon after modern Jewish reconstruction began, the Jews attained a majority when they have never relinquished.  Jerusalem had never played any part in the Arabs' political life, either.  When Damascus, Baghdad and Cairo were famous capitals, Jerusalem stagnated as a remote provincial townlet.  It never even served as a provincial capital, or a subprovincial capital which was an honor reserved for Ramleh.  It was never a Moslem cultural center.  No great school of Islamic lore was established nor any religious message proclaimed there.  To the Moslems, Jerusalem was backwater.  The Holy Places there were Jewish ones.  They only had it in their story that Muhammad had gone there to the "farthest mosque"on his flying horse and from there ascended to heaven, came down and returned to Mecca.  The only building he could have seen was  the Roman Temple built over the Jewish 2nd Temple, for even a temporary mosque wasn't built over the Roman Temple till after he had died.

Are Ibrahim's Claims False In Order to Create Caliphate?

Abu Akr al Baghdadi, now calling himself Ibrahim, says he has the right to claim a Caliphate, IS,  because he claims to be a Hashemite, a direct descendant of Muhammad.  .  

Someone knowledgable about DNA genes in the Middle East says he never heard of him and reminds the world that there must be authentic proof of this.  One cannot simply say that he is a Hashemite.
                                                                               

First, there has to be evidence of a family tree that is acceptable and complete.  Then today, even this is not enough.  These things can be altered.
                                                                           

The only way to prove this is by DNA testing, deep DNA testing and done with an accepted company where the scientists have not been paid off with baksheesh to forge the results.  So the whole testing procedure in this case must be validated, from the scraping in the mouth to the test tube to the DNA lab in an acceptable company.
                                                                           

This is a big claim;  to be the head person of a caliphate.  Ibrahim is calling for the allegiance of other Sunnis, a paper to be signed.  No one is going to swear allegiance to a false claimer.
                                                                     
Sunnis should not follow anyone who has made such claims that are false.  He's breaking all the rules in the Koran as it is, sweeping through land not his and killing and beheading people.  He's killed Sunni Imams, Sunni policemen for Iraq, Sunni and Shi'a children.  He's on a bloody rampage to put the fear of him into everyone so as to take land easily.   This is a bully, not an official leader.
                                                                       

He has now taken the border between Iraq and Jordan.  It's time for Iraqis, regardless of whether they are Sunni or Shi'a, to stop and think.  You are following a false leader who has not given you proof of heritage and rights.

The True Story of Why the Arabs of Safed Left In 1948

Mahmoud Abbas or Abu Mazen, head of the PA,born on March 26, 1935,  has been telling lies to the UN about the Arabs of Safed and what they did in 1948 when Israel was established through the UN. At the time he was 13 years old.    He seems to have forgotten what he had told people earlier just this year about why the Arabs had left the city.   That's the trouble with telling lies.  You often can trip yourself up by not remembering all the stories you have told..

My husband, myself and our German shepherd lived in Safed from July 1981 to November 1985 and I taught English at the junior high while my husband taught at the high school.  We lived in a high rise apartment building across the street on David Eliazar from the school.  One of our friends was Dov Silverman, who wrote the book, "Legends of Safed"  in which he has documented all the histories and stories he could find about this ancient and picturesque city.  This former U.S. Marine from Long Island immigrated with his family in 1972 while we had immigrated in 1980.  He worked as a teacher of English in Safed and became the high school acting principal for 2 years and then became an advisor and lecturer for teachers of English as a 2nd language.  Before this book, he had published 2 short stories and had been working on a historical and an autobiographical novel.

Palwatch has caught Abbas telling the UN that the Arabs of Safed were "uprooted and thrown into exile" in 1948.  He said they were "left" on their own," and "overcome with fear."  His story is that he was one of the victims of the Nakba, what he calls the catastrophe, meaning the establishment of the state of Israel and had been forcefully uprooted and thrown into exile.

The truth is quite different.Abbas had been born in Safed, a city on top of a mountain  with an elevation of 2,720 feet allowing people to see special panoramas.  It is a summer resort and has been  an art center with about the same altitude as Jerusalem, and was a mixed Jewish and Arab town.  This is out of his own mouth when he spoke earlier this year.  He said that they left on their own out of fear.  The reason was that in 1929 there had been "a most severe" massacre of Jews in the cities of Safed and Hebron, and that Arab residents of Safed were afraid that Jews would take revenge.  The fear caused them to flee in a disorderly manner, more likely every man for himself, probably staying in family groups.  This is quite true about what happened to the two cities of Hebron and Safed and the massacre.

James Michener, author of many famous books,  lived in Safed for a period of time while he wrote "The Source", the book that actually talked me into moving to Israel and living in Safed.  One chapter is about "The Miracle of Safed."  Dov tells about it.  During the war of Independence in 1948, Jews were outnumbered in Safed 10 to 1 and had few weapons and were in a bad position.  They did have a Davidka, a homemade mortar that made a lot of noise but wasn't very accurate.  With that they routed the invading Arabs.
                                                                         

Some people attribute the out of season rain that fell at that moment.  The Arabs thought that the Jews had an atom bomb and the rain was the fallout.  some Arabs thought the rain was a sign from G-d that his hand was against them.

When the Arabs left Safed , they expected to return victorious, because their leaders had told them that would happen.  Most took the route of the Wadi Amud, passing the water pumping station built by the British.  They did not blow it up, thinking they would return and the Jews would be no more.  It was the beginning of summer and the city would have had to be evacuated for lack of water had that happened.  The same pumping station was still being used in 1985 when I left.

In Dov's book, he wrote about the Arabs fleeing in such haste that they didn't take all their belongings with them.  Some buried their valuables that they couldn't carry, thinking they would return for them later.  The Jews stayed close to the Jewish Quarter after the battle where they had been allowed to be during the previous centuries under the Moslem rulers of the Ottoman Empire.  One went out to check on the deserted parts of the city and passed a horse pawing in the earth in the garden of a house owned by a very rich Arab.  A week later he saw the same horse pawing the same spot.  He then noticed that the earth under the horse had been recently turned over.  That turned out to be the spot the Arab had buried his valuables.  The horse let the Jews know about the spot.

Dov tells us that an Arab village of Akbara was on the lower western slope of Safed, just below the Rebecca Sieff Hospital.  It was started by a breakaway group of Bedouins from Tuba, a village near the Jordan River.  The original tribe still lives in Tuba.  Akbara means mouse in Hebrew.  it got its name when Jewish fighters were routed from Josephus's citadel in Safed by the 5th and 10th Roman Legion.  They hid in the small caves dotting the mountainside.  When the Roman soldiers were seen, the Jews came out of these holes and jumped them.  That's why the Romans called them mice and then rats as they became bolder in their attacks.  This shows how far back the history of the Jews were in living in Safed.  In ancient times it was known as Beit El or House of G-d.   There is even a legend there that Shem and Ever, the son and grandson of Noah, were buried in a cave next to the synagogue which bears their names.

Palestinian Arabs left Israel on their own during the war for their own reasons.  Some have blamed the local Arab leaders while others blame the Arab armies or foreign Arab government.  One man has said that the Jordanian Army told them to leave their homes in Israel.  He lived in a refugee camp in Judea/Samaria of Qalandiya and told how when he was 20 years old they left because the Jordanian army told them to leave with the promise of liberating the town in 2 hours, so they left with only their clothes.

The official PA's policy is to deny Arab responsibility for the Palestinian refugees and they claim that Israel expelled all the Arabs who left.  In the demand for a final peace deal, they want Israel to accept all refugees along with all their descendants.  This is the big sticky point in reaching a peace agreement.  This would amount to millions of returning Arabs, outnumbering Jews in Israel!  One thing they've been doing is just sitting in refugee camps having many children.  The average family has over 10 children.  They might even still continue to be allowed 4 wives and each wife could have 10 each.  This has been going on for the past 65 years.  That's about 3 generations of people.

In Hebron, which is 18 miles south of Jerusalem, the Arabs had massacred many Jews in 1929.  700 Jews had lived there then.  The survivors had to flee for their lives.  About 30 families had returned in 1931.  Arabs rioted in 1936, probably stirred up from contact with then rising Nazi Germany and their growing anti-Semitic attitude towards Jews.  By 1967 the population of Hebron was 38,310.  After the 6 Day War, some Jews again settled in Hebron because of its religious history of Judaism.  They established the Kiryat Arba quarter east of the city which had 3,700 Jews in 1988.

My city of Safed, going back to Josephus in written history, was known about in Crusader times.  It had become Templar property in Mameluke times and had become an administrative center.  Jews were well established in the 11th century and by the 16th century it became an important center of rabbinical and kabbalistic activity.  In 1948 there were 12,000 Arabs and 1,800 Jews.  The Arabs fled after fighting which  had started when the Arab invasion from many countries were threatening the Jews.  In 1990 the population of the city was 16,400.  In my building lived Arabs and Jews.
