Friend Oman and Iran, A Twosome Alerting Trump To Be On Guard Over Strait of Hormuz

 Nadene Goldfoot

President Donald Trump threatened Oman—a long-standing U.S. ally in the Middle East—stating that the U.S. would use military force if the Gulf nation "gets in the way" of American positions regarding the Strait of Hormuz.   Oman's friendship with the United States officially began in 1833, when the two nations signed a Treaty of Amity and Commerce. This made Oman one of the very first Arab nations to formally recognize and build diplomatic ties with the United States.

  • Strait Control: Tensions rose as Oman engaged in discussions with Iran regarding shipping and security arrangements in the strategic waterway.
  • Iranian leaders are claiming sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and seeking permanent control of maritime traffic through it. This demand marks a significant expansion of Iranian war aims beyond just survival and denying the United States and its partners the accomplishment of their own objectives. Iran is now positioning itself to emerge from the war in a stronger strategic position, with veto power over who can access one of the most critical maritime chokepoints in the world. This arrangement would severely undermine the US position in the Middle East and jeopardize the security of US allies and partners globally, including those in Europe and the Indo-Pacific.Washington and its friends—from Europe to the Indo-Pacific—have a vital interest in securing the Strait of Hormuz and preventing Iran from holding hostage a critical artery of global trade. This reality holds regardless of how one feels about the war or the wisdom of launching it in the first place. The vital national interests of the United States and all its allies and partners, and of many neutral countries as well, require making securing full freedom of navigation through the strait a non-negotiable condition for ending the current war.
  • On Monday, as Iranian officials said they were close to announcing an agreement with Oman, a 60-day Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Washington and Tehran – which had provided for a period of peace talks but largely fell apart early on – expired with little hope for renewal.  This is not the first time Trump has threatened Oman, a US ally which has never entered into any direct conflict with the US.   Oman, through whose territorial waters the contested Strait of Hormuz also flows, has positioned itself as a neutral party in the US-Iran war. Despite that, it has suffered a number of strikes by Iran, which has targeted US military assets and infrastructure around the region in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks. As part of regional escalations and maritime disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian strikes and projectile attacks have targeted multiple ports, industrial zones, and commercial or military-linked infrastructure sites in Oman and its territorial waters.

  • U.S. Stance: The Trump administration insists the Strait of Hormuz must remain open international waters under broader U.S. oversight, rejecting joint regional management or fees.
  • Diplomatic Fallout: The threats coincided with the expiration of a 60-day window for broader U.S.-Iran peace negotiations.
  • Now, The United Arab Emirates said Tuesday (Today) that two ballistic missiles launched from Iran triggered missile alerts across the country, with both ultimately landing in the water. The Emirati Defense Ministry said its air defense systems detected the two missiles after warning sirens were activated and residents received alerts on their mobile phones.

He works with a Horn of Africa‑based war and human rights monitoring organization and holds research fellowships with policy institutes in the Middle East and New Zealand. Find him on Twitter/X @wrobinsonnz. He writes that there is no peace unless there is a Palestine, not accepting  how Israel has struggled to have peace with its neighbors ever since the 1920's when Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was powerful and against the Jews creating Israel. The struggle includes the PLO with Arafat and now the October 7, 2023 slaughter of Jewish citizens done in the bloodiest manner possible for a human to do.  He must go along with the 1967 credo of wiping Israel's Jews into the Sea.  Any planning for a "Palestine" has been kyboshed. They signed a peace accord and still refuse to give up their arms, so they have broken that a well.  They are terrorists, never having the ability or right to have another country of their own.  They have attacking Israel continually; some neighbor they would make !!! They've bared their colors and they are not acceptable.  There was a time when Jews had wonderful plans for them as neighbors, but that has been buried for good now.

  • "The treaties marked a departure from the 1967 Khartoum Resolution's "Three No's" paradigm—no peace, no recognition and no negotiations with Israel—as well as the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which conditioned recognition on the establishment of a Palestinian state. In doing so, they deprived Palestinians of one of their few remaining sources of diplomatic leverage: the Arab consensus that Israel's regional integration must be contingent on ending its occupation of Palestine."  (Israel had the papers giving them the right to the land of Israel of which Britain gave away 75% of it to become Trans-Jordan, then just Jordan, so there is your Palestine, Mr. Robinson).

Trump and Netanyahu Over Qatar, Gaza War

     Nadene Goldfoot

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses the 79th United Nations General Assembly at U.N. headquarters in New York, Sept. 27, 2024. (last year).  United Nations —

Israel’s prime minister told the U.N. General Assembly Friday that Israel is “winning” in its fight against terrorists and their patrons in Iran who perpetrated the October 7 terror attacks on his country. “I have a message for the tyrants of Tehran,” Benjamin Netanyahu said. “If you strike us, we will strike you. “There is no place — there is no place — in Iran that the long arm of Israel cannot reach. And that's true of the entire Middle East.”

The editorial from Times Of Israel in the article on By ToI Staff18 September 2025, 12:20 pm,  states that Trump is not happy with Israel at the moment when Israel attacked Hamas leaders in Qatar, not publicly killing the sought-after head leaders,  but won't break with Israel  publicly.  Trump, it seems, not happy with the ongoing Gaza war either, that he wanted finished.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Trump feels Israel is f-----g him.  Trump was speaking to his aides,  including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, about how to respond to Israel’s strike against Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, earlier this month.

Who was Trump concerned about?  Qatar or Israel?   Trump has also praised the "Qatar "Gulf emirate as a “great ally” and pledged that Israel won’t attack on its soil again.

"The Journal report noted, however, the US president is broadly accommodating of Netanyahu’s decisions, even when they appear to contradict the White House’s stated goals with respect to the war in Gaza and Middle East relations more broadly." So if reporters wonder whose side Trump is on; think how Netanyahu must be feeling.

Netanyahu is always blamed, the profound scapegoat of his people and the world abroad, but he isn't a dictator.  He has a government to run made up of left and right with their extremes giving him their opinions and desires.  He has an army full of Generals;  While an exact number is not publicly disclosed, the number of generals in the Israeli army is estimated to be around 115, though it fluctuates based on the shifting command structure. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) uses the Hebrew word aluf for a general-rank officer, and there are three different general ranks.

    Here are the 3:

    • Rav Aluf (Lieutenant General): The highest rank in the IDF, which is held only by the Chief of the General Staff. Under normal circumstances, there is only one active Rav Aluf at any given time. As of March 2025, that position is held by Eyal Zamir.
    • Aluf (Major General): In 2021, the number of officers with this rank was estimated at 24. They lead regional commands and branches of the IDF, such as the air force and navy.
    • Tat Aluf (Brigadier General): As of 2021, there were an estimated 89 officers with this rank.
    • On August 5, 2025, Netanyahu held a three-hour meeting with IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Defense Minister Israel Katz to discuss plans for expanding military operations in Gaza.
    • Reports from early August 2025 also indicate meetings between Netanyahu and security chiefs regarding proposals for a full takeover of the Gaza Strip.
    • Heated disagreements: News outlets have reported on stormy or heated exchanges between Netanyahu and his generals during cabinet meetings, indicating frequent, and sometimes tense, interactions.  They can have very heated disagreements.  There is a reason why Netanyahu has served 3 terms at different times.
      • First term: 1996 to 1999
      • Second, third, fourth, and fifth terms: 2009 to 2021
      • Sixth term (current): 2022 to the present.
      • When things get bad, people feel safer with Netanyahu. He's from Likud, a tougher political group.
      • When things were being given away that mattered a great deal, like part of Israel, that was done by the liberal political group, not there for the same reasons as Likud.
So Netanyahu gets pressure from all sides:  his wife, children,
knesset members, generals, his own political party of Likud, and now Trump, citizen marches, hostage's parents, TV stations, radio stations, newspapers and magazines,
    • There's the 7 areas they area fighting in.   Jul 3, 2024 — Newsweek outlines active clashes in Gaza, the West Bank -Judea and Samaria) , Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Iran as regional tensions mount. and now the whole UN is against him made up of 193 countries of which only 10 stood with Israel, and that includes the USA. The fact is,
    •                     NETANYAHU WHEN FIRST A SOLDIER, born October 21, 1949,  will soon be 75 years old.  He lost his older brother in a previous war.  Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu, was killed during Operation Entebbe in 1976.  He was the leader.
    • Israel has only one President, and that is Netanyahu.  Trump is not President of Israel, too, only a friend who has been in the past a great friend.
    •  Like my old age, Netanyahu is going as fast as time permits.  One cannot click one's fingers to win a war, even to accommodate another's wishes.   The enemy is elusive.   This is a first in the act of war.  Books will be written about it and moves will be studied and discussed.
    • Trump has never been an enlisted soldier and neither has he ever been in a war.
    • Trump should know that

The U.S. and Israeli armies differ significantly in their scale, doctrine, culture, and strategic environment. While the U.S. military is a global expeditionary force, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is a highly-specialized regional force focused on its immediate neighborhood.

The Israeli army Has a more informal, mission-focused culture where rank is less emphasized among enlisted soldiers. This fosters initiative but can result in a more relaxed approach. It is  a conscription-based "people's army" with mandatory service for most citizens. This results in a large, well-integrated reserve force and lately they've worked too long a shift without breaks.  Officers are often very young.

a thought at 4pm;  While watching ILTV and giving horses to Israel, I want to say that Jews do not eat horse meat;  it's forbidden as it is not a kosher animal  Neither is camel meat. Do Arabs?   Yes, many Arabs eat camel meat as a traditional and culturally significant food, though the specific practice varies by region and family. However, horse meat consumption is generally not a traditional part of Arab culture and is considered culturally unacceptable in most Arab societies, similar to other cultures where horses are valued as companions or working animals.

Power of United Islamic States-How Many Are There? Ask Obama

    Nadene Goldfoot
2008: Obama's campaign in Portland, Oregon

This latest push of accepting the Iran deal instead of the original promise of not accepting it if it doesn't meet the USA standards and expectations is odd to say the least.  Why does Obama cow tow to Iran?  There are lots of speculations, so I thought I'd check out a few of them.  This is just covering one odd fact.

    OIC meeting at UN
No wonder Israel is always in trouble at the UN.  There are 57 Islamic states listed that are members in the OIC at the UN. The OIC is the 2nd largest inter-governmental organization after the UN which has membership of 57 states covering 4 continents.  It is a collective voice of the Muslim world.  It was started in Rabat, Morocco on September 25,1969 as a result of arson in the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount which they called "occupied Jerusalem."  You can now see the whole group's collective thinking.

He looks pretty refreshed to me, and this is in Portland.  Beaverton is connected.
Don't tell me this isn't a war between Islam and Judaism.  OIC means Organization of Islamic Cooperation!   Too bad we don't have such a thing between the Jews of AIPAC and the Jews of J Street in the United States!  The USA only has 50 states.  Even they are outnumbered by the Islamist states!  Remember when Obama said in Oregon that he would campaign in all 57 states?  Was that a Freudian slip or had he had this fact on his mind for some reasons?  A professor of USA history surely would know that there are 50 states and not 57, one would think.

"… uh, because, you know, i-i-it is just wonderful to be back in Oregon, and over the last 15 months we’ve traveled … uh to every corner of the United States. Uh, I’ve now been in fifty … ss-seven? states. I think one left to go. Uh, one left to go — eh, Alaska and Hawaii I was not allowed to go to, even though I really wanted to visit but my staff would not, uh, justify it.
    • Obama says “fifty … ss-seven states”.
    • This all came about in Beaverton, Oregon.  "
Origins:   On the campaign trail in Beaverton, Oregon, in May 2008, an obviously tired Barack Obama mistakenly told a crowd that over the course of the long campaign he had been to fifty-seven states in the U.S., with one left to go:

"... it is just wonderful to be back in Oregon, and over the last 15 months we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in fifty .... seven states? I think one left to go. One left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit but my staff would not justify it."

    • I figure this is either a Freudian slip or he could have been tired, but 57 and not an automatic 50 for an American  college professor?

    • Hmm. What's strange is that my list of Muslim majority countries only includes 48, and is not counting Palestine which is not a state as yet though the UN certainly has been pushing for it.

    • I found that my list of 57 Muslim countries is from Wikipedia  The OIC have added 10 states to  this list which are: not Muslim majority states.

    • Ivory Coast:  The main Religions in Ivory Coast are Islam and Christianity. According to recent estimates by CIA, Islam (mainly Sunni) is practiced by 38.6% of the population, Christianity by 32.6%, 16.7% of the population is Irreligious, while 11.9% of the population follows Animism i.e., Traditional African religion and other religions

    • Gabon: About 73% of the total population are Christian, with a majority of the country being Roman Catholic. About 12% are Muslim and about 10% practice traditional indigenous religions exclusively.
    • Cameroon: Approximately 70 percent of the population is at least nominally Christian, 20 percent is nominally Muslim and 6 percent practice traditional indigenous religious beliefs I.e., Animism.
    • Mozambique:  Roman Catholic 28.4%, Muslim17.9%, Zionist Christian 15.5%, Protestant 12.2% (includes Pentecostal 10.9% and Anglican 1.3%), other 6.7%, none 18.7%, unspecified 0.7% (2007 est.)
    • Suriname:  According to the most recent census (2012), 48.4 percent of the population is Christian (the largest groups being the Catholic Church, Pentecostalism, and the Moravian Church), 22.3 percent is Hindu, 13.9 percent is Muslim, 1.8 percent follows Winti, and 0.8 percent is Javanist. In addition 2.1 percent of the population follows other faiths (including Jehovah's Witnesses, 7.5 percent are atheist or agnostic, and 3.2 percent did not answer the question about their religion.[1]
Indigenous religions are practiced by the Amerindian and Afro-descendant Maroon populations.
    • Benin:   2002 census, 27.1 percent of the population of Benin is Roman Catholic, 24.4 percent Muslim (mainly Sunni), 17.3 percent Vodun, 5 percent Celestial Christian, 3.2 percent Methodist, 7.5 percent other  Christian denominations, 6 percent other African Traditional Religion groups, 1.9 percent other ...

    • Uganda:  85.1 percent of the population was Christian while 12.1 percent of the population adhered to Islam (mainly Sunni). The northern and west Nile regions were dominated by Roman Catholics, and Iganga District in the east of Uganda had the highest percentage of Muslims.

    • Togo:  The largest religious group in Togo are those with indigenous beliefs, and there are significant Christian and Muslim minorities.  African religion 70%, Christian 20%, Muslim 10%
    • Guyana:  Christianity and Hinduism are the dominant religions in Guyana. Data from a 2002 census on religious affiliation indicates that approximately 57 percent of the population is Christian. The composition of that population is:
      Approximately 28 percent is Hindu,
    • 7 percent is Muslim (mostly Sunni with Shia and Ahmadiyya minorities), and 2 percent practice other beliefs, including the Rastafari movement, Buddhism, and the Baha'i Faith. An estimated 4 percent of the population does not profess any religion
    • Guinea-Bissau:  Throughout the 20th century, most Bissau-Guineans practiced some form of Animism. Recently, many have adopted Islam, which is currently practiced by 50% of the country's population; most of Guinea-Bissau's Muslims have Malikite Sunni denomination, with Shia and Ahmadiyya minorities.
    • Palestine  :  When did it become an authentic state?  It's not- not yet. It would be 100% Muslim. No Jews will be allowed.  They inhabit Judea and Samaria, which was the Israel and Judah of ancient days,  and Gaza which was also inhabited by Jews long ago.
    • The list did not include Kosovo which is on the Muslim majority state list. It has 90% Sunni Muslims.   Nor did it include the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which is 98% Sunni Muslims.   Most of these additional states are Christian majority states, not Muslim.
The collective population of OIC member states is over 1.4 billion as of 2008. Remember, not all are Muslims, though.

The population of the USA as of 2014 was 318.9 million.
    USA's Muslim's population is 2.11% or 6.67 million.
    USA's Jewish population is 2.2% or 5.3 million.(as of 2014)
    •
Obama 8 years later and not ready to defend USA's old friend, Israel anymore in the manner that Israel feels defended.  Israel doesn't feel defended by the USA signing an agreement with the state that wants to rub her out which allows much more than Israel can believe is happening, like allowing Iran to do some of the inspecting.  Good grief!  Iran's Ayatollah has put out a book describing how they will rub her out and we sign an agreement allowing them pathways in which to do this.  With a world chomping at the bit to do business with Iran, there's no renewing sanctions, it looks like.  If Israel decides to go it alone and bomb the heck out of these sites, the USA has already said they'll attack the Israeli planes.  This one is surely for the books, so I ask, what has been going on?
