The Promised Land and The Outposts

  1920 and Israel/Judah-renamed Palestine by Romans: 120,466 sq. km. or 46,512.1826 sq. miles which included  Judea and Samaria as it had always been.  Samaria was the northern section and Judea the southern.  Israel's total surface was 17,500 sq miles  of which 45% was in Transjordan. 

 The cattle-keeping tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh lived in Transjordan.  King David conquered the whole Transjordan including the rich copper mines of the Arabah.  under the weak successors of Solomon, this area was lost or only held temporarily.  Western Ammon was held for a time by a Jewish family, the TOBIADS.                                            

The extent of the Promised land reached the Pelusium arm of the Nile Delta, the Gulf of Elath, and the Euphrates opposite Aleppo in the East: It included most of Syria and altogether covered 58,000 sq miles.  This entire area was occupied by the Israelites under David and Solomon.                       

                     Israel, now only 8,550 sq. miles in size.  

Israel's Border Police forces evacuated and demolished an illegal outpost near Shilo in Samaria (the West Bank).  A group of 20 masked people arrived at a nearby hill and began throwing stones at the Border Police, damaging a patrol vehicle.

The Border Police then continued to another nearby illegal outpost, Ramat Migron, where five people were arrested during clashes with police and four patrol cars were damaged. The evacuation comes amid continued violence between settlers and Palestinian in the West Bank.

Those that dare to live in their previous homeland are usually orthodox Jews who have great respect and awe of the land, so intricately woven into Judaism.  Israel has dared to allow living space under different PMs.  This is the land most dearly loved in our religion and it's hard to deny Jews to live there when they are a stone's throw away from it.  

                                                

By 135 CE, a Jewish General, Bar Kokhba,  had held Jerusalem for the past 3 years, taking it from the Romans who had taken it from the Jews in 70 CE by burning down the Temple with the city.  Palestine was the name the Romans gave to the land to get even with the Jews for retaking the land as it is giving praise to the Philistines, the worst enemy the Jews had fought.                            

The Jews had held the land ever since Joshua b: c. 1350 BCE of the tribe of Ephraim and the 601,730  Israelites had entered it and helped to create an empire.  That was an empire for 1,420 years that had been of the Israelites before the greedy Roman conquerors. The USA is only 245 years old.  Israel was 5 1/2 times older than the USA.  Can you imagine what the USA will be like in the year 3441?  

It wasn't just a country to the Judeans, who lived in the southern end of Israel.  It had religious underpinnings.  The Israelites were led there by G-d, and told to live there and that it was to be their home.  The Temple had been a very important part of their religious beliefs.    

The Israeli-occupied territories refers to the land won back by Israel during the Six-Day War of 1967. It was a terrible 6 days when all the surrounding Arab armies attacked Israel, and a miracle happened.  Israel won.  After attacking Israel from 1947 to 1949, and again in 1956 and losing, this was the Arab chance of retribution.  It didn't work.   It was a hard win for Israel.  776 soldiers died and 5,293 were injured, a far more serious war than previous ones.  The started with Syria, Egypt and Soviet Union spreading rumors of concentrations of Israeli forces on the Syrian frontier, still believed by some.  They ignored on the spot reports by the UN that no such concentration existed.  The Arabs tried so hard to bait the Jews into starting the war even while they were all lined up on the border.                                               

The 1967 Six-Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbors shocked the world and resulted in an Israeli victory that created the boundaries of the modern Middle East.

The war started when Egypt spread rumor for concentrating the bulk of the Egyptian army in Sinai-90,000 men and 900 tanks.  Egypt then closed the Straits of Tiran to all destined for Israel, AND CALLED FOR WAR.  Led by Egypt, the Arab States formed a war pact against Israel.  Jordan, Iraq, Syria had their armies along the border with Israel.  They made public speeches saying their intention was to destroy Israel.

 It also sometimes refers to areas of Southern Lebanon where Israeli military was present to support local Lebanese militias during the civil war and after it. Originally, the sole governance of the territories were as the Jordanian-annexed Judea-Samaria, land first promised to the Jews and won back in the 1967 war, the Egyptian-occupied Gaza Strip (given to Palestinians in the name of peace that has never come) , the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula (given back to Egypt in the name of peace), and the Syrian Golan Heights.

If you want to know about occupied territories, ask the Jews how they suffered under the Syrian Greek  Occupation during the days of Judah the Maccabee, and then again by the Roman Occupation, equally as bad.  Nobody has suffered more than the Jews from 'OCCUPATION."  The Jewish morality is the Golden Rule, not to do to others that which they find repugnant to themselves, clarified by Hillel born in Babylonia of 1st century BCE before Jesus was born.  

The first use of the term 'territories occupied' was in United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 following the Six-Day War in 1967, which called for "the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East" to be achieved by "the application of both the following principles: ... 

1.Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict ... Israel withdrew from Gaza completely and look what it got them; rockets landing into Israel.  Ask Ashkelon's hospital how they like it; having to go to the basement to operate.  

2.Termination of all claims or states of belligerency" and respect for the right of every state in the area to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries.  The Palestinians, followers of Arafat's Fatah and Hamas terrorists certainly haven't been following that rule, and are still firing rockets into Israel.  Syria and Lebanon are now being taking over by Iran and Russia is also involved there with plenty of Russians in the population.  

In addition to the territories won by Israel following the Six-Day War, Israel also controlled portions of Southern Lebanon following the 1982 Lebanon War, and maintained a military presence there until withdrawing in 2000.

What are Israeli outposts?  In Israeli law, an outpost (Hebrew: מאחז‎, Ma'ahaz lit. "a handhold") is an unauthorized or illegal Israeli settlement within Judea and Samaria ( the West Bank), constructed without the required authorization from the Israeli government in contravention of Israeli statutes regulating planning and construction. 

In Israeli law, outposts are distinguished from settlements authorized by the Israeli government. This distinction between illegal outposts and "legal" settlements is not endorsed by international law, which considers both a violation of the norms, governing belligerent occupations, applicable to the Israeli-occupied West Bank.  

They started as military outposts.  In theory, military outposts are temporary occupations for military strategic purposes, not for the settlement of civilians. In the Israeli held areas in Judea and Samaria, this were typically Nahal settlements, and they became a principal way to start civilian settlements.           

Outposts were originally Nahal villages established by the Israel Defence forces.  Nahal is a corps which combines military training with farm work;  its members become farmers when their service ends.  The villages are, in substance, military points, like those held by any other unit of the Israel Defence forces. 

There are villages that were made up of  civilians established in areas which Israel hopes may be assigned to the jurisdiction by peace treaties.  Israel has declared again and again that, in peace talks, everything will be negotiable.  

There are communities established in areas where the political future is not covered by Israel's positions.  The assumption has been that they may even go to Arab sovereignty under a treaty of peace.

So while everyone else is breaking previous plans for peace, Israel's law is after those religious folks living in Judea and Samaria's countryside illegally.

Israelites Weren't Promised A Rose Garden

One has to expect that G-d had his reasons for telling the Israelites that they were to live in Canaan and gave them the dimensions of their piece of property.  He had to know that they would be confronting other people there where they would risk their lives to carry out these instructions.  It was no bed of roses, and after walking and traveling for 40 years, they were quite a possible frightening group of 601,730 former slaves that had toughened up along the way when they arrived in Canaan.  All the wars that they had to fight for the next 3,000 years must have been for a reason.  They are an ancient people that have survived!                                 

They survived as a people, becoming warriors  and are able to come to the day in 1948 CE when they have Israel once again to live in after waiting 1,878 years.   

 

IDF soldier  Lior Raz is also an Israeli actor and screenwriter. He is best known for portraying Doron Kavilio in the political thriller television series Fauda. His native language is Hebrew, although Raz grew up also speaking Arabic with his father and grandmother at home, and with some Arab workers, who were his playmates, at his father's plant nursery. He's an example of our Jewish warriors.  

 Genesis 12:1 says, "Go for yourself from your land, from your relatives, and from your father's house to the land that i will show you. "And I will make of you a great nation;  I will bless you, and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses you I will cure, and all the families of the earth shall bless themselves by you.                   

It hasn't quite worked out this way.  In coming to Canaan, G-d said, "To your offspring I will give this land." We're still arguing with the Palestinians about our rights to be in our revived state of Israel.  He never said the land would be like a rose garden, however, we're run into plenty of thorns in the land.

Genesis 15:18–21 describes what are known as "Borders of the Land" (Gevulot Ha-aretz), which in Jewish tradition defines the extent of the land promised to the descendants of Abraham, through his son Isaac and grandson Jacob. The passage describes the area as the land of the ten named ancient peoples then living there.

  On that day Hashem made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants have I given this land, from the river of Egypt (Nile)  to the great river, the Euphrates River.":  This was the Promised Land.

Genesis was written by Moses (1391-1271 BCE) along with 4 other books;  Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.  The 5 books are called THE TORAH. Moses was told what to write by G-d, so he was somewhat like a receiver.   They are also found in the Jewish bible called a Tanakh which also contains writings from the prophets, etc.  .  The Christians have placed the Tanakh in a book they call THE OLD TESTAMENT, and their own writings the 2nd part of that book called THE NEW TESTAMENT. 

"Except for a few passages in Aramaic, appearing mainly in the apocalyptic Book of Daniel, these scriptures were written originally in Hebrew during the period from 1200 to 100 BCE. The Hebrew Bible probably reached its current form about the 2nd century CE."   The Old Testament is the original Hebrew Bible, the sacred scriptures of the Jewish faith, written at different times between about 1200 and 165 BCE. The New Testament books were written by Christians in the first century AD. 

          Conquering Canaan

When the Israelites reached Canaan, they were embroiled in fighting off the attacking populus on several occasions, especially the Amaleks who attacked them viciously in the desert near Rephidim shortly after the Exodus, and annihilated the weak and weary. Joshua had to defeat them (Exod.7: 8-13). They and their descendants are our eternal foe.   This was the land that Jacob and the 12 tribes were born and raised, leaving only when there was a dry spell so bad that they ran out of food and had to trek to Egypt to survive 440 years  previously.  Well, it had changed the past 400 years.  Joshua appointed sections of the land to the 12 tribes, as Moses had died outside of Canaan at age 120.  We understand that in 1200 BCE, there weren't many people in Canaan to start with, but even then, the population had increased in 400 years.  Abram lived in the 2nd millennium, Joshua, then Saul, David and Solomon had been the Hebrew's leadership for more than 1,600 years during which time the Israelites, later to be known as Jews,  "formed the main settled population of what the Romans would later call Palestine," according to historian Martin Gilbert."  

Jews went through having to defend themselves during the conquests of the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians and Greeks who all occupied their lands.  "An independent Jewish kingdom was revived in 168 BCE, but Rome took effective control in the next century, and Judea was renamed Palestine, in order to de-Judaize it."

During the 7th century CE, Jews of Jericho became "refugees from Muhammad's bloody massacre of 2 Arabian Jewish tribes of Khaibar, an  oasis north of Medina" that had lived peacefully among their Arab neighbors until "Mohammad's visited upon his beaten enemy inhuman atrocities," massacring Jewish men, women, and children.  Jewish men witnessed their women distributed among the Arab men and carried away by these conquerors. It was when slave labor was available from conquered communities, that the Jews of Khaibar were expelled by Omar in 1641. It's too bad, because after 628, Jews had been allowed to stay and retain their lands, but had to give half other produce to the Muslim conquerors, being 2nd class people.  There were no other trained agriculturalists in the region! Imagine, Jews being the best agriculturalists, and were never allowed land in Europe.   

  "Never do 2 religions exist in Arabia," was the prophet's command from then on.  Many of the Khaibar Jews joined Jewish refugees from post-Roman Christian oppression.  I can imagine!  Arabs were asking to be converted to Judaism.  

It was the Crusaders who brought death and destruction to Jews, first in Europe as they rode through on their horses, then in Jerusalem as they couldn't tell the difference nor did they care, between the Arabs and the Jews.  Everyone looked alike to them.  These "Crusaders massacred thousands of Jews along with the Muslims in the 11th century. The 1st Crusade of 1096-1099 and more to 1320 with about 4 Crusade groups brought attacks on the Jews in N. France and especially in the Rhineland where massacres occurred in many cities, like Mainz, Worms, Speyer, Cologne, etc.  Similar attacks took place in Prague and later, in Salonica where the reports of the Crusade gave rise to a messianic ferment. Jerusalem was then captured by them in 1099, and Jews and Karaites were massacred.

Jews came afterwards from France, England, then Spain, Lithuania, Portugal, Sicily, Sardinia, Rhodes, and Naples who established centers of Jewish learning and commerce.  From then on, Palestine was never without a well-documented Jewish presence. 

Leading up to the Ottoman Turks take-over of the Middle East, In 1492, 180,000 Jews were expelled from Spain.  50,000 converted to Christianity to remain in Spain. This was the Spanish Inquisition.  1495, Jews, my ancestors, were expelled from Lithuania, influenced by the Pope's decree.  1497, Jews from Portugal, Sicily and Sardinia were expelled.  1502, Jews of Rhodes were forcibly converted, expelled or taken into slavery. This continued, running into the Nazi death camps. Attitude and hatred of someone evidently doesn't stop like emptying a glass of water.  It keeps on going like an Energizer battery.

Ottoman Turks came along, "occupying Palestine in 1516 when about 10,000 Jews lived in the Safad region alone." By the 16th century, "as many as 15,000 Jews" lived in Safad, which was "a center of rabbinical learning," and Kabbala.

This is where I lived from 1981 to the end of 1985.  The air of Safed was glorious.  The city was on top of a mountain, as high as Jerusalem, so the weather was far more tolerable than the lower sections of Israel, though winters were harsh and buildings had no heat. even in 1981.   Of course, in 1516,, "many more Jews lived in Jerusalem, Hebron, Acre, and other locations.  Jerusalem has had a Jewish majority since the 1st population figures were gathers in the 19th century, and Muslims of Jerusalem "scarcely exceeded 1/4 of the whole population.  Jerusalem was a predominantly Jewish city well before the 1st Aliyah of Jews migrated to Eretz Yisrael of 1881.  

                                                   

From where I sit, I've seen religion causing hatred's anti-Semitism toward Jews from the beginning of time.  We were different, we believed in one G-d, and he had stipulations and laws and expectations of us.  We were responsible for ourselves; no Jewish police existed, no rose garden to be taken to when we died. We didn't accept others' faith but stayed the course with our own.   It's been from Christianity and Islam, religions that promise peace and love.  Wow!  The Greek occupation was bad enough when we didn't allow Zeus statues in our Temple!  They were just the warm-up for our future. It was the Christians of Rome that put an end to our accepting others into our faith.  That was forbidden.  After we've witnessed our people being forced into their religion, we decided not to proselytize. The practice of ours was to discourage someone by answering NO at least 3 times.  Hmm, guess who stole that practice from us, used differently, of course !   

Times are changing now.  We have reached an epoch of being able to fly to other planets, and from what I've heard on Wion TV news, many countries are into this, even India that I hadn't realized. We've also got the UN that's been highjacked by a group of anti-Semites shortly after its inception!   I guess we've had too many things popping in the USA to hear what India's been doing.  Thank goodness for Youtube.  Maybe Jews will get a break and people will find that their attitude towards Jews is passe.

Israel wasn't promised a rose garden when they accepted the responsibility to adhere to their Mosaic Laws, but their plan has always been to create Israel as a rose garden, a wonder of all wonders for Its citizens, in peace and in harmony with each other.

I am always inspired by this website's awesome finds in our Torah that ring true in today's world.  Here's one that sure fits today's position of Israel.  To think that this was written down almost 4,000 years ago is amazing!  It's earth-shaking!

It says that  the Jewish people shall not be reckoned  among the nations.  In other words, the Great Plan for us was already known that we were a stiff-necked people and that others would react as they do. They were to remain as independent thinkers.   Webster's dictionary tells us that reckon means: count, estimate, compute, to determine by reference to a fixed basis,  to regard, consider, think, to settle accounts, judge, suppose, depend, calculate, rely.

The result is that Israelis are to live alone.  They cannot be counted as  part of a pack.  Israel is not to be swayed by others.  Jews have the Mosaic LAW and that is what they judge themselves with.

with her braying and he hit her 3 times at which she asked him why?  

Balaam was a heathen prophet who was invited by Balak, the king of Moab (Ruth's home of Southern Transjordan) , to curse the Israelites when they neared his country during their walking of the Exodus from Egypt to their Promised Land.  Instead, when he opened his mouth, out came Blessings instead of Curses.  Numbers 33-1:16 tells of Balaam's following advice to the Midianites to invite the Israelites to worship Baal Peor-the local Canaanite deity, worshipped with sexual orgies on Mt. Peor in Moab.  Of course, being men, the Israelites were temporarily attracted to this cult during the time of traveling through the land.  The result of this instigating was of being killed by the Israelites on the battlefield.   Balaam was not an Israelite  prophet but was a Mesopotamian priest and soothsayer. Even so, he  was a faithful servant of G-d as well.  He was among the 7 prophets who spoke to heathen nations of that day with success.  Evidently he was tuned into the the creator but wasn't capable  of understanding the full message.

Israel receives an utterly disproportionate amount of coverage by the media, most of it negative, yet there is an inherently positive lesson in this solitude: the people of Israel are singled out for a holy purpose. The facts were recorded by Moses in what would become the Bible.  The frontiers were approximately on the West of the Mediterranean Sea;  on the East the Syrian Desert;  on the South the Brook of Egypt (Wadi El-Arish) to Kadesh Barnea, also to the Brook of Zin as far as the Valley of Zoar South of the Dead Sea, and in Transjordan from the river Arnon to Mt. Hermon, and to the Valley of Tyon..

I lived in Safed (Tzfat) in the Galilee (northern Israel) which is on top of a mountain,
about as high as Jerusalem is.  Syria is on the northern border. 

The total surface turns out to be 17,500 square miles of which about 45% is in TRANSJORDAN.

The Jews keep returning to their Promised Land like salmon going upstream to spawn, or the swallows returning to Capistrano.  Why?  The place had been inhabited by someone so different since their absence, with obviously such different values that they want to kill Jews, so what's going on?  Evidently the rest of the world thinks that Israel has no business being there since they keep siding with the other people of the Middle East.  There never was a Palestine country, only a Palestine territory. It had become part of the Ottoman Empire who held it for 400 years up till WWI and was still, just a territory.

When the Israelites first entered with Joshua, the Canaanites, made up of little city-states, were very different from the Israelites.  After the battle, those who survived were assimilated into the Israelite society, most likely giving us some of the different DNA Y (male) haplogroups other than J1c3d.  (today's Cohen gene). For example, we have found E, G, I, J, R male haplogroup majority  in the Jewish population.  There were a few groups who were converted to Judaism, but it was rare.  Jews were a family of Jacob to start with, and have remained an endogamous society as well as a religion and culture.  They were warned by G-d through Moses not to assimilate into the Canaanite society because the moralistic value system of the Canaanites  was too different.  Their moral values would not continue if it happened.  The awesome thing is that Israel  has lasted for the past 3,000 plus years.  All the other ancient nations have died out except the Israelites who later were called the Jews since it was the state of Judah (southern part of the state of Israel) which had survived after the attack of Babylon in 597 BCE and again in 586 BCE.  
                                                                       

Moses was the founder of the Jewish religion, Prophet and Lawgiver,  that seems to be so contentious today to so many.  He was born in 1391 BCE to and died in 1271 BCE just before he could enter the Promised Land at age 120.  Joshua had to take over his position at that time.  He had been found in some sort of little basket on the water  by an Egyptian princess who was childless and raised by her, so was a Prince of Egypt, raised with all the royal education and position.  As it turns out, he finally found out that he had been the child of Israelite slaves, Amram and Jochabed.    Amram was the grandson of Levi, one of the tribes of Jacob, who originally came to Egypt 400 years previously with his 70 family members escaping a drought that had hit Canaan, their home.

  The Muslims say that Moses is a respected Prophet.  Are they following anything G-d-through Moses,  laid down for the Jews to follow?

The Israelites were not to stay in Egypt any longer.  Moses at age 80 was chosen as the leader to free them from this captivity that had lasted most likely about 300 years, since part of the 400 years were in living in Egypt over the time expected and frightening the Egyptians into thinking that the tribes had become too plentiful for the Egyptians"  own safety.  Egyptians were afraid that the Israelites would attack them because of their numbers.

when the angel of G-d appeared to Moses prior to his Divine call. The bush appeared to be on fire, but was not being consumed by it.  Moses was told that he was to be G-d's tool to lead the Israelites out of their suffering from Egypt. 

Moses had several wild experiences.  One was of hearing a voice-the voice of G-d and seeing that which was an angel of G-d.  One time he heard the voice speak out of a bush that looked like it was on fire but wasn't.  Finally the voice told him more about his new job, that of leading the Israelites back to where Jacob had come from.  He was told they were to take the land and gave Moses the geography-the size of the land it was to be.  Moses had not been there.  None of the Jews after 400 years had been there.  But now Moses thought he understood how to get there and how big it was to be.

This entire area was occupied by the Israelites under King David  (1010-970 BCE) and his son, King Solomon (961-920 BCE).  The facts are recorded in (I Kings 5:4).  The actual area under Jewish control fluctuated, and there were extensive gentile enclaves within Jewish territory.
                                                                             

Moses could not have known much about the land except what he learned through Egyptian education.  This was G-d telling him of the exact measurements that Moses passed onto the Israelites who 40 years later entered the land and had to fight to do so with Joshua  leading in about 600,000 former slaves who had been on the march for 40 years.
                                                                     

The Prophet Ezekiel-writing for the Jews in Babylon  in Ezekiel 46:13 writes of the boundaries for each of the 12 tribes as G-d stated:  2 portions for Joseph...each tribe equal to his brother...this land shall become yours as an inheritance. Ezekiel foresees the time when Israel to rise again and return to its home.  There, in Jerusalem, it will assume a new and eternal name-HASHEM (G-d) is there (48:35). The Jews returned in c516 BCE and again populated their tribe's land, joining the remaining descendants who were not stolen away.
 15. On the north side; From the Great Sea, by way of Hethlon, to the approach to Zedad, Harnath, Berothah, and Siraim which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath, and Hazer-hatticon which is on the border of Hauran.  The border shall tus go from the Sea to haar-enon by the border of Damascus, with the northern border extending northward to the border of Hamath.  This is the northern side.
The eastern side:  Between Hauran and Damascus, between Gilead and the Land of Israel, the Jordan, you shall measure from the northern border to the Eastern Sea.
The southern side:  southward-from Tamar until the waters of Meriboth-kadesh, to the stream, to the Great Sea.
The western side: The Great Sea, from the southern border until opposite the approach to Hamath.

Today we have many people who do not believe in this power of creation we refer to as G-d.  They think that perhaps it was some aliens from outer space in a space ship broadcasting this to Moses.  If you have ever watched History 2 on TV, you have seen these theorists.  IF they are right, these aliens, as well as G-d, knew why this was to be.  Perhaps they, or G-d saw the future and had to see certain events come to be.  However you believe, this was something from a power higher than Moses, and Moses also gave us more than the geography of the Promised Land.  He gave us the rules of living in 10 Commandments and 613 other laws of ways to act under certain circumstances and what to do.  All these things came to Moses and he wrote them down.   They all are in the Bible.

The armistice agreements of 1949 left Israel with the broken promise of the U.N.  Instead of the land including Transjordan, they were given 8,000 square miles with complicated borders.

So why are people of the world demanding that Israel is always wrong about their living in a fraction of what is the Promised Land?  The circumstances of the past 3,000 years has been that Jews have been treated like Pariahs.  They have not been made welcome for any length of time in other lands.  Why didn't we pick Tasmania to return to live our lives?   We knew we had to live in one place.  G-d has ordained this.  It is our job to carry out this dictum.  This is a special time in the world.  It has been prophesied.

Today we see the USA still pushing for Israel to give more of it's 20% to Arabs who have denied them peace for the past 67 years.  Islam, as the Palestinians understand it, denies Jews living in their land again.  They will not make peace for their religious reasons. Muslims say Moses is a Prophet and a messenger.   "Moses is regarded by Muslims as teaching and practicing the religion of his predecessors and confirming the scriptures and prophets before him." If that is so, why does the Koran change things?

This is where they get their historical facts confused.  Moses's predecessor was Abraham who did teach the idea of one G-d only.  However, there were no prophets before Moses, lawgiver and first Prophet of the Jews who brought Judaism.   People of Canaan did not believe in one God.  They believed in many gods; a "polytheistic religion using idols, with families typically focusing worship on ancestral household gods and goddesses, the Elohim, while acknowledging the existence of other deities such as Baal and El, Asherah and Astarte." They cannot say that Moses was reflecting the religion of their Arab ancestors.  Canaanites and Abraham himself were familiar with human sacrifice.  That's not something Moses supported through G-d.  Abraham was about to sacrifice his only child but in the Jewish version, was stopped by G-d and that was to be the end of such practices.  The Muslim version is not found in the writings of Moses-found in the FIVE BOOKS OF MOSES of the Bible but in the Koran.  .
