Our Days Of Reflection

 Nadene Goldfoot

We are now entering into a period before Rosh Hashanah (Mon. Sept 22-Wed. Sept 24, 2025  called "DAYS OF REFLECTION."  The "days of reflection" before Rosh Hashanah are well- known as the Days of Awe (Yamim Nora'im) or the Days of Repentance, encompassing the ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. This period is a time for introspection, self-examination, and repentance, culminating in the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur.

Rabbi Vigler has a video of the British Journalist, Melanie Phillipsof Britain called, "WHAT THE WEST DON'T SEE """The Shocking Truth About How the West View the Palestinians. It's on youtube.

Melanie Phillips (born 4 June 1951) is a British public commentator, age 74

Melanie Phillips is a British journalist, author, and broadcaster known for her conservative viewpoints and writings on social and political issues. She has written for numerous prominent British publications, including The Guardian, The Observer, The Sunday Times, The Daily Mail, and currently has a column in The Times of London. She is also a regular contributor to The Jerusalem Post and The Jewish Chronicle.

Phillips has authored several books, including Londonistan, The World Turned Upside Down, and Guardian Angel: My Journey from Leftism to Sanity, according to Amazon UK. Her work often explores themes of moral relativism, the influence of Islam, and the state of British society. She is a vocal critic of what she perceives as left-wing ideologies and their impact on British culture and values.

She helps me reflect our past year, like the fact that Israel was recently blamed for bombing a Palestinian Hospital when it turned out to be a Hamas rocket veering off course, hitting theirown hospital.

How many times have Hamas terrorists hit ourhospital,  causing the staff to move to the basement to do surgery.  It's worth noting that hospitals in Ashkelon, a city close to Sderot and the Gaza border, have also been hit by rockets in the past, with damage to sections of the hospital requiring rebuilding. I'm thinking of Barzilai. In addition, Ashkelon was hit many times during this period by Grad rockets. On 26 February 2008, a Grad rocket hit the hospital grounds of the Barzilai Medical Center, approximately 200 meters away from the neonatal intensive-care unit.

The primary hospital in Ashkelon, Israel is the Barzilai Medical Center. It is a 600-bed district general hospital that has been serving the community since 1961. The hospital also plays a crucial role as a frontline facility, providing medical care to civilians and soldiers injured during conflicts in the region, particularly those near the Gaza border. I didn't see any outsiders other than Israelis write about these atrocities.

Melanie told how in England, the people have no concept of our Jewishistory and view Jews and IDF as something like the IRA of Ireland, who, by the way, are most anti-Semitic nowdays.  They view Palestinians

as the indigent people while it is the Jews who are.  In fact, Vigler

mentioned that "Palestinians", though is a term used by the Romans after

135 CE when Bar Kokhba had held Jerusalem for 3 years, holding

back the Romans, angering them so much that they renamed Judah as

Palestine for Israel's worst enemy of those days, Palestine actually in
Hebrew means INVADER.  Of course, the Philistines were invaders of
the land back then.  In 135 CE, Bar Kokhba was killed by Roman troops in the fortified town of Betar. The Judean rebels who remained after his death were all killed or enslaved within the next year, and their defeat was followed by a harsh crackdown on the Judean populace by the Roman emperor Hadrian.

Reflect?  Mohammad was born in 570 CE and died in 632 CE.  Jews had been living in tribal units in Arabia ever since 70 CE and later since they had to escape from the Romans and had scattered where possible since many were kidnapped as slave material.  Mohammad, who couldn't read nor write, like his own people were also illiterate , did admire the stories he heard told outside some Jews' tents and that admiration turned to making his own people become "PEOPLE OF A BOOK"  as well.  So he started dictating his version of "a book."  His book fitted his position, but he really couldn't do the editing unless someone read it all back to him.  Later on, many Jewish writers living in Arab countries wrote in Arabic. My reflection lands on how the Palestinians have changed to the point of having a single goal of annihilation of the Jews from Israel and that the West remains unaware or non-caring about it.

The reflection causes me to think inward as to what I can do to help better, and in my position, this is what I am doing;  exerting myself to keep on reminding people of why we are here and what service we do and are doing.  The Palestinians have made up their own history, lying about it, and have become evil.

Those joining the Abraham Accords  are doing a good job of reflection and do want a peaceful society and friendship with Jews.  May it continue and grow and may the  Hebron population become successful in joining them.

Remember, "The most famous quote associated with the moon landing is "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," spoken by Neil Armstrong as he took his first step on the Moon. While often remembered as "That's one small step for a man," Armstrong maintained he did say "a," though the audio recording is unclear.  It's changing attitudes so one small step from Hebron to me is a big deal, especially after reading that the sheik has suffered since his decision  to go public.Neil Armstrong's moonwalk took place in 1969. Specifically, he became the first person to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969, during the Apollo 11 mission.  Changing over from a hateful terrorist to being peaceful is as hard as that first step.

When London's Columnist Goes From Left to Right: Melanie Phillips

Nadene Goldfoot
"Melanie Phillips is a British journalist, author, and public commentator. She started on the left of the political spectrum, writing for The Guardian and New Statesman.  Melanie, born June 4, 1951, is married to "Joshua Rufus Rozenberg QC, a British legal commentator and journalist. He was educated at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith and Wadham College, University of Oxford, where he took a law degree".
Melanie Phillips has moved from the left to the right in London, of all places.  What has soured her on her outlook of life to change so?  She's a spokesperson that I hadn't heard of here in the USA, but she and I  are on pretty much the same pages.

She wrote an article called "Jews Misread America's Cultural Civil War" and point out that this is not only an "immensely dangerous moment for the west," but also for Israel and the Jewish people.

That's where we agree.  I see my own people tearing Trump apart in their disagreement that he was elected by the laws of our country fairly to be president because he not only was from the Republican side, but that he did not present their own Democratic ideals.  The direction that they were going into was the opposite direction that Trump was going and he wasn't using the same tactics they were at all.  For instance, he didn't spend half the money they did in running their campaign.   He expressed himself sometimes in unbecoming ways.  Pundits today are calling him insane and asking speakers if it isn't time to throw him out of office.
She wrote, "At Charlottesville, the former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke ranted in deranged fashion about alleged Jewish power over the media and banking system and about the ”Zionist ethno-state of Israel”. But this vile outpouring is indistinguishable from the anti-Semitic tropes spewed out by “antifa” groups, of the kind that clashed at Charlottesville, and beyond them the left in general and beyond then too; indeed the trope of Jewish power controlling the world was institutionalized by Mearsheimer and Walt in their book The Israel Lobby, and yet they (Mearsheimer and Walt)  remain esteemed and even lionized in academia."  The sad truth is that when the academia accept such ideas made up of lies, too many Democrats and Republicans and Independents buy into it, and are hooked by thinking that the academia must know best because they are academia, people who must be able to reason the best, and they don't check facts for themselves because they think they are just too busy or it's unnecessary.

Columnists  here in the USA and elsewhere have been just as guilty if not more so.  There is one thought coming out of of Democrats ever since Trump was elected, and that's to get Trump ousted.  There's so much peer pressure that few are able to stand alone and face the mob with differing facts.  I'm surprised that such a lady as Melanie Phillips has done so.  She, as I also do, see greater fears than Trump in our lives.  It's like crying over crumbs dropped on the kitchen floor when the Walking Dead are clawing at the door ready to break it down.

She wrote, "Black Lives Matter, a core antifa group which was at Charlottesville, is said by Alan Dershowitz to have “declared war against the nation state of the Jewish people”. Isn’t the support for BLM by so many American Jewish liberals the thing that’s really beyond belief?"  It's like:  here we go again with the Blacks being against the Jews-the apartment owners and the tenants' fight of New York, basically that caused friction between the two people long ago.  Just like other groups in our history, everything that bothers people becomes the fault of the Jews.   Forget the facts that Jews were the first to step in and come to the Blacks' aid in their time of crisis in the 60's and some even died with them.

As neo-Nazis grow bolder, the ‘antifa’ has emerged to fight them."

Indeed, the antifa arrived at Charlottesville equipped for violence with baseball bats and sticks."  Nobody on the left has admitted this important fact.  That's why Trump didn't come right out and call them like the Democrats were.  He said he was checking on the facts, and obviously he did.  As it turned out, this is the way the antifa is reacting these days.  Gone are the ideas of passive resistance of Martin Luther King with this group.

Here in the USA, Jewish Democrats made up a good 80 % of the Jewish population, but it fell to about 70% in 2012.   22% of the Jews in the USA are Orthodox, tending to vote Republican.  33% are Conservative and 38% are Reform, both usually voting Democrat.

"In the 2008 presidential election, 78% of Jews voted for Barack Obama, who became the first African-American to be elected president. Polls indicate during this election, 83% of "white" Jews voted for Obama compared to just 34% of white Protestants and 47% of white Catholics, though 67% of those identifying with another religion and 71% identifying with no religion also voted Obama.

In the 2012 presidential election, 68% of Jews voted for Barack Obama.

It's been a long standing opinion to vote Democratic since the days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt when they remembered the Jews who were trapped in Europe and unable to get out to freedom away from the Nazis.  I see the Democrats have changed from their original standards, but evidently many of my brethren haven't noticed.   Melanie is pointing  this out to them.

Times have changed and so have the Democrats.  They're no longer the support the Jews have needed in an anti-Semitic society.  They've become that society.  They've gone from Democratic values to Socialistic ones and others I can't even categorize.  That's how we see it.  We notice the differences that have developed.
