Early today, 12 IDF soldiers were wounded when an explosive-laden first-person-view (FPV) drone directly struck a vehicle in the Shomera area near the Lebanese border. Shomera (Hebrew: שׁוֹמֵרָה, lit. 'Guard') is a moshav (a type of cooperative agricultural settlement in Israel) in northern Israel. Located near the Lebanese border, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council. In 2024 it had a population of 428. An Israel Defense Forces armory is located in the moshav.
Sergeant Idan Fuchs, 19, was killed Sunday when a Hezbollah explosive drone struck his position in southern Lebanon. At Segula Military Cemetery in Petah Tikva, Sgt. Idan Fox, 19, was laid to rest after falling in combat in Lebanon. His mother, Meital, recalled being summoned to a “work meeting” at the council offices, where she received the devastating news.
Six other soldiers were wounded, four seriously. The IDF reports daily drone violations since the April 17 ceasefire took effect, as Hezbollah expands its core of FPV drone operators.
Two of the soldiers were moderately wounded and the others sustained light injuries.
The FPV drones are operated via a thin fiber-optic cable, allowing operators to transmit commands and real-time video without using radio waves, making them resistant to electronic warfare jamming.

IDF officers are calling for removing operational constraints and shifting to a more offensive approach, aimed not only at stopping individual drones but at striking the systems behind them.
This would include targeting infrastructure, equipment depots, operational units and supply chains tied to the drone network.
