Ehud Olmert Hebrew: אֶהוּד אוֹלְמֶרְט, born 30 September 1945 age 80) is an Israeli politician and lawyer. He served as the 12th prime minister of Israel from 2006 to 2009 and before that as a cabinet minister from 1988 to 1992 and from 2003 to 2006.Ehud Olmert was born in 1945 near Binyamina in the British Mandate of Palestine. According to Olmert, his parents, Bella Wagman and Mordechai Olmert, escaped persecution in Ukraine and Russia, and found sanctuary in Harbin, China. Benjamin Netanyahu won his position after he lost it. You can see there might be friction between the two. If anything I enjoy and need to hear Fareed Zakaria's American-Immigrant politically unaffected comments about Israel weekly, and today was no different on this Sunday morning when he interviewed past Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert.
Olmert position this morning was that he felt Israel's enemy was from within ! That means coming from the government of Israel itself, which blames Netanyahu or the generals under him with Operation Gideon's Chariot. The fact that people are starving is the problem.
Israel's Iron Dome they invented for defense against thousands of rockets from Palestinians via Iran Hamas children being raised to kill Jews now wearing their headbandsHe agrees with the position after October 7th 2023 with the Hamas attack on Israeli people within their homes and field was absolutely horrid and that Israel had the right to defend itself. That isn't the problem. The fact that Germany and their own citizens of Israel complaining now is the problem according to the article in the progressive liberal Israeli newspaper, Haaretz. This opinion peace should have been called, Chariots of Genocide, according to the author, Gideon Levy.
James Spire answered with a historic comment:
Actually Israel does have a point about being singled out for its actions when other nations are ignored. Azerbaijan (armed with Israeli weaponry) just ethnically cleansed Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh a month before October 7th and there was no significant outcry. Just congratulations from Israel along with Turkey (fellow Turks and descendants of the Ottomans who enacted the Armenian Genocide at the beginning of the 20th C). Of course, to the world, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Nagorno-Karabakh are back waters of no real significance.
Israel on the other hand when it wants the stage steps up front and center demanding the world's attention as it did on October 7th. Which of course led to continuing attention as Israel succumbed to blood lust in its campaign to 'free the hostages.'
At any rate, with the example of Azerbaijan in front of them Israel undoubtedly feels that any adverse consequences of their campaign of ethnic cleansing will be minor and/or blow over quickly.
The Gaza Israel had left for the Palestinians in the name of peace all gone since their cease fire calls for the disappearance of the Jews in Israel. Their goal all along has been to wipe out Jews, have we forgotten this?
This of course is also a negative reaction to Israel's attack on Hamas terrorism that has been going on since 1967 and even before but does make the point that Israel is being treated harshly about acts others have done and are ignored. The world, including the UN, never ends making the point that Israel is held in a higher state than others because of their religious history. They are not viewed as JUST another new state. Anytime they act like others even slightly, they are criticized.
So, Olmert is asking what happens at this very moment with the attack on Israel and what are the accomplishments after today's wiping out Hamas terrorists and all this killing, giving people pictures and reporters stories of starvation and deaths (which we realize are exaggerated high numbers by Hamas; terrorists). He may be rightly stating what we have earned today from the enemy is only damage to Israel in the attitude and future support of all other people. Have we quite stooped as low as our enemies already?
I know Israel is in the biggest pickle happening throughout the last 4,000 years. It's a matter of Israel's continued existence or not that the outside world is blind to. I've got that verified in the blogs I write of the history I see developing. Israel is in the position of being between the Devil (which we don't believe in) and the deep blue sea (which is outside our door as the Mediterranean). It's no wonder others have said that we are in the END OF TIMES now. It can't get any worse, or yes, it can-with atomic warfare at our doorsteps-something too awful to really contemplate and accept. It's serious times. I shudder because I just became a great-grandmother. I fear for our future.
It's like this: Hamas expects Israel to give in to their demand that all Jews jump off the cliff to their death. Israelis won't do it. We all know the results are our death, thereby losing Israel as well. What they expect for a cease fire results would be the same.
