From left, Carrie Spyva-McIlvaine, Gabriel Velasco and Lisa Turnquist arrive to place bouquets of flowers at a memorial after Sunday's attack in Boulder, Colorado. (The man's shirt says "Am Yisrael Khai" which means the people of Israel live). Now, the organization is figuring out how to continue its mission in the aftermath of the violence.
Federal agents said Mohamed Sabry Soliman told police after his arrest in a Boulder firebombing that he planned his attack for a year, would do it again if he could and "wished they all were dead."
Police arrested a 45-year-old man, Soliman, for attacking participants at an event held on behalf of Israeli hostages in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday. Here’s everything we know about the incident. (He was an Egyptian with 5 children ;filled with incorrect information enough to make him want to burn Jews alive.)
Who are the victims of the Boulder attack?
Police say there are eight victims aged 52 to 88 who were hospitalized with burns, and another four who suffered minor injuries. The victims were part of Run for Their Lives, a weekly vigil and march for Israeli captives who remain held by Hamas. So far, little information has emerged about the identity of those injured or their condition, although The New York Times reported that at least two were flown to a burn unit in nearby Denver.
Leo Terrell, the chair of the Trump administration’s antisemitism task force, said one individual hospitalized after the attack was a female Holocaust survivor. She has not been named. (She may be the Holocaust survivor because of her age).
The violent attack in Boulder over the weekend targeted a group that aims to bring public attention to the hostages Hamas continues to hold in Gaza.
It's called "Run for Their Lives."
Now, the organization is figuring out how to continue its mission in the aftermath of the violence.
Federal agents said Mohamed Sabry Soliman told police after his arrest in a Boulder firebombing that he planned his attack for a year, would do it again if he could and "wished they all were dead."
According to a federal criminal complaint filed Monday morning, Soliman, 45, threw two lit Molotov cocktails at the gathering near the Boulder courthouse, yelling "Free Palestine!"
The founder of Run for Their Lives, Shany Klein, a licensed attorney in California and Israel, thanked law enforcement and fire department officials for “their quick response” and said her “thoughts and prayers were with the victims,” who she hoped would have a “speedy recovery.”
She stressed that Run for Their Lives would continue to be “committed to our mission until all the hostages are returned back home.”
According to the group's LinkedIn page, Run for the Lives was set up in response to the October 7 attack and calls for "the immediate release of the hostages held by Hamas."
