"The View" on ABC's discussion today turned out to be a shouting match when they tried to discuss "Israel Pre-empting Iran and if they had the right to do so or not. It was Sunny Hostin who said that they had broken laws when they did this. Sunny is a lawyer. She was a trial attorney in the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division. She left the Antitrust Division to become a federal prosecutor, specializing in child sex crimes. She was adamant that Israel was in the wrong.
"Sunny Hostin debated with her View co-hosts about the legality of Israel’s recent attacks on Iran, but shared a pointed disclaimer with their viewers to avoid backlash about criticism of Israel is not an anti-Semitic act. They were so loud that I couldn't hear a word they were saying!
If I were there, I'd remind her of the fact that Israel is the only Jewish state in the world, so she's complaining about a population of the only state made of 80% Jewish people. We've had too much criticism by just living from people throughout the ages, the last to remember being the Holocaust, of course. To criticize Israel hurts me anyway, even if you think it's okay to criticize her constantly no matter what she does. It's always said in distain. We have the right to keep our 77 year old Israel and not have to hit the road again like after 70 CE. If Iran wipes us out with an atomic bomb, we won't even be able to hit the road. Why is it you always seem to side against Israel in any discussion, anyway? I've noted that in the past, but not in a letter or article. This could be the end of times. It's a matter of life /existence of Israel or death!!! And that means the death of the population as well with a nuclear bomb these days! I don't even want to think what will happen with anti-Semitism raging today being almost as bad as it was in Germany in 1939.
Me who could also make my own Challah for Rosh Hashana- Self-Defense: Proponents cite the inherent right to self-defense under international law, particularly Article 51 of the UN Charter, which allows states to defend themselves if an armed attack occurs.
- Just War Theory: Within Just War Theory, preemptive action may be justified if it meets certain criteria, such as a credible threat, proportionality, and the need to act immediately.
If reliable but uncertain intelligence predicted a mass casualty terrorist attack and indicated likely suspects,
what preventive actions would be constitutionally authorized? Detention? Interrogation? Torture? What if the attack involved a weaponized virus? Should the government compel widespread inoculation that might kill hundreds of people while saving millions? What if an article describing how to circumvent the inoculation mandate was about to be published? Should censorship of the article be authorized?
In a provocative new argument from his recently published book, "The Preventive State," renowned legal scholar Alan Dershowitz asserts a forceful justification for a preemptive military strike against Iran's nascent nuclear program.
I knew that Alan Dershowitz, a well-known lawyer, would say that it was all right for Israel to pre-empt. "Preemptive strike against Iran was justified, citing lessons from history.
Dershowitz argues that if diplomacy fails and Iran approaches the threshold of developing a deliverable nuclear weapon, Israel, potentially with or without U.S. support, would be compelled to act. Diplomacy failed. You can't beat a dead horse with a stick and expect it to get up. The phrase "you can't beat a dead horse" is an idiom. It means that it is pointless to continue putting effort into something when the outcome is already decided, especially if that outcome is negative or futile. It's like trying to make a dead horse move by whipping it; it's a waste of time and energy. Trump had given Iran 60 days to change their tune. Israel pre-empted on the 61st day. Mossad (secret service) had facts that Iran was closer to having a missile with an atom bomb attached than anyone had thought.
We remember when Netanyahu warned the UN of the up-coming nuclear weapon Iran was going to create. Benjamin Netanyahu, then Prime Minister of Israel, drew a "red line" on a cartoon bomb diagram at the United Nations General Assembly to illustrate his concerns about Iran's nuclear program and how close they were to obtaining a nuclear weapon on September 27, 2012. An international lawyer that is outstanding in standing up for Israel is Professor Eugene Kontorovich, born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1975.
Professor Eugene Kontorovich is another lawyer, an international lawyer who I admire. Eugene Kontorovich teaches constitutional law at Northwestern University and heads the international law department of the Kohelet Policy Forum in Jerusalem. He specializes in constitutional and international law. He is a leading expert on the legal issues in the Arab-Israeli conflict, and has advised top officials and government departments in both the US and Israel. He is widely cited and published in popular media, such as New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, AP, Reuters, Commentary, Haaretz, and more.
Professor Eugene Kontorovich, a prominent legal expert, has publicly stated his support for Israel's right to defend itself against Iran, and he has commented on Israel's actions in response to perceived Iranian threats.
- Preemptive Strikes: While he has not explicitly detailed the legal basis for preemption against Iran, he has commented on Israel launching a "preemptive, precise, combined offensive based on high-quality intelligence to strike Iran's nuclear program". The last time I checked, he was living with his family in Israel.
