Whoopie Goldberg and the Jewish Question Made Clear

Whoopie Goldberg's real name is Caryn Elaine Johnson (born November 13, 1955).  She's a year younger than my daughter; 1955 when Blacks were demonstrating and realizing they've been under duress for too long.  She's been acting since 1983 when she was 28 and became very famous, having won an Emmy, Grammy and Academy awards. She's been on THE VIEW  leading the ladies in discussions about pertinent issues.  In one about Jews, she said Jews were not a race, but the Germans had made it very clear that we were-and an inferior one at that-one that needed to be exterminated from the world.  Up to then, we Jews were saying that we weren't a race; that we were a religion.  We are a mixed bag of colors; some with luscious tans and others pretty exasperatingly white, especially when we disrobe at the beach.

Race; Racial is not just about color of skin. it's both; race and religion  

  

There are questions raised by Whoopie herself as to whether or not she is Jewish.  She has claimed that she is.  

                                                   

So she took a DNA test.  That was the smartest thing she could do.  She was the daughter of Emma Harris and Robert James Johnson.  They were not Jewish but were Black.  Emma's mother was Rachel Freedman, and that is a Jewish surname.  Malachi Harris was Emma's father; Whoopie's maternal grandparents.  

I had found 14 Freedman males that matched me and 9 females on the 1st page with a Freedman surname. I never realized until now how many Freedmans must be on my tree.  This is the spelling;  heavens knows how many Friedmans I might be matching.  Well, we do have 6 million Jews living in the USA, 6 million in Israel and about 2 million scattered in other countries.  We happen to be 0.02% of the world's population, not many----and we all love DNA testing because for one reason, our lives were disrupted by the Holocaust, causing all our records to be lost.                               

                     

I believe that all along, Whoopie wanted her Jewish peers to know that she had a Jewish ancestor because she told them this many times.  She hadn't felt that a Freedman grandmother was enough so took on the stage name of Goldberg, to make sure of her Jewish claim.

Why did she want to be part of the Jewish crowd?  Many of her peers were Jewish, that's why.  She was funny, and Jewish comedy was an important part of the culture.  Whoopie was born and raised in New York where lots of Jewish people lived.  She was a 'wanna-be Jew who was not raised in a Jewish home but was raised in a Black culturated home. 

                                                 

 Freedman is so Jewish that I was able to find more than 7 matches to me, and on Family Tree DNA was allowed to test 7 at a time to my DNA.  Most were 4th cousins, but I did find one man that was a 3rd to 5th cousin, a little closer with 17cMs total in a segment of 17cMs.  On the X chromosome, the sex chromosome saying we shared a common female, 3 of the Freedmans and I had a triangulation, showing we shared this common ancestor.  Another Freedman also shared with me another segment on the X chromosome.  The Freedman matches were from my maiden name, Goldfoot, and my ancestors came from Lithuania and were Ashkenazis if Whoopie is interested.  I might even match Whoopie if she tested at FTDNA.                       

Results of a DNA test, revealed in the 2006 PBS documentary African American Lives, traced part of her ancestry to the Papel and Bayote people of modern-day Guinea-Bissau. Her admixture test indicates that she is of 92 percent sub-Saharan African origin and of 8 percent European origin.  I don't know where she took the test, most likely from ancestry.com.    Her 8% European origin would be where her claim to Jewish genes comes from.  One parent would give one 50% if the company realizes your Jewishness.  A child of one Jewish parent would have 25%.  The grandchild of a person with one Jewish parent would have 12.5%, and the ggrandchild could have 8%.  Whoopie's ggrandparent could have been Jewish.  Was there a Goldberg great grandparent?  Looks like it was her maternal grandmother who passed the genes to Whoopie through Whooie's mother, and she wasn't a 100% Jewish  herself, as many of us aren't.  

Being outspoken and self-assured, she has put her foot in it more than once.  This last time caused her suspension from THE VIEW for 2 weeks.  She's simply reacting like Jews around her have done and said.  Yes, I've heard the same thing from some of our honest to goodness Jews, some bearing more Jewish genes than I.  We're a very mixed group of people today, having been exposed to all sorts of religious ideas from the lands we've lived in.  The only thing holding us together today is that fact that we do not take Jesus as someone to pray to, and that he's not any more the son of G-d than we are; so that we all are the son of G-d in that respect.  Some of us take things pretty literally and are the Orthodox Jews;  some do not and are the Reformed Jews, some in the middle are Conservative Jews.  Christian Protestants have the same span of differences in their religion.  Some of us wear big gaudy stars of David and others wear small ones,, and some none.  Most of us try to be aware of our Jewish Holidays and some, unfortunately, could care less.  We're not in a ghetto anymore and not experiencing the very same environment.  Of course, Whoopie has copied the attitudes of those less Jewish in mind and thought;  that's been her environment and she is a partial reflection of it.

                                                                

As she has said already, she's really not into any of her inherited family religions, yet she has tried to do so with our Jewish holidays, so...I take it she celebrates them all yet believes in none.  This is a typical American today.  Whoopie has a Jewish grandmother and she's proud of it as I would hope she would be.  She never really has stepped into our shoes to know how we see the world, and needs to listen and read more to understand, especially since she herself is a celebrity, voicing her opinions.  However, now we also realize what others think of us and will hopefully use education to clear the air.

Malcolm X and the Anti-Semitic Nation of Islam; Another Blunder of The View

            Malcolm Little AKA Malcolm X b: May 19,1925  d: February 21, 1965 to a Baptist Preacher in Omaha, Nebraska who was a follower of the Black Nationalist, Marcus Garvey.

Malcolm was an anti-Semite by the very fact that he belonged to the Nation of Islam.  Lies Malcolm X and Nation of Islam spread were:

                                                  

• The Nation of Islam (NOI), the largest Black nationalist organization in the U.S., has maintained a consistent record of antisemitism and bigotry since its founding in the 1930s.
• Examples:
• (1)“These same Jews that are attacking the Minister are the blood relatives of the slave ship owners.”, 
• (2)“Also pushing the federal government are the wicked members of the Jewish community, who have opposed every good deed and all of the good works of a good man.”
• (3)“Jews have been conclusively linked to the greatest criminal endeavor ever undertaken against an entire race of people … the black African Holocaust. … The effects of this unspeakable tragedy are still being felt among the peoples of the world at this very hour.”

  Whoopie Goldberg, whose real name is Caryn Elaine Johnson;   Movie, TV personality on The View, put her foot in it when she insisted that Jews were not a race, when so many of us remember that the Nazis called us the "Inferior Race, etc." The fact is that many Jews have always stressed that we were not a race but a religion.  Well, we're three definitions:  A people, a religion and a race/culture. Whoopi Goldberg feels a connection to her name and identifies as Jewish. In explaining her name, she further said, “I just know I am Jewish. I practice nothing. I don’t go to temple, but I do remember the holidays.” Jewish Chronicle further reports her saying, “Religion is a lot of work, it’s exhausting. So I keep it simple, I have a pretty good relationship with God. We talk.” “It’s part of my family, part of my heritage, just like being black.” It has been rumored Goldberg’s mother thought her original last name was “not Jewish enough” for her daughter to become famous, though that has not yet been confirmed. On the other hand, Goldberg has stated she feels a deeper connection to the last name than this rumor."  She could take a DNA test and find out many things about herself.                 

 We started as a family that grew with our genealogy recorded by Moses in the Torah and later in the Tanakh (old testament). Whoopie has been suspended for her statement though she has apologized and had an ADL spokesman on first thing on her show yesterday, which was the day after her slip.  Her error came from lack of education, not attitude, for Whoopie, bearing a very Jewish surname at that, is not an anti-Semite.  She's too sensitive a lady to be that. She's been suspended for 2 weeks from The View. Being Black, Whoopie's idea of race probably is black and white and Asian, like most people think. 

Today her charges, the ladies on the view,  shocked me again by praising Malcolm X, who to me, was a known anti-Semite along with Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam.  They were anti-Semites when young Jewish men from colleges were helping the Black Movement as best they could, some dying for it.  This was a bigger faux pas than Whoopie's was, even though this is Black History Month. They thought he was a great person!  Whoopie wasn't there to set them straight.   

Malcolm X was an African-American Muslim minister and anti-Semite yet saying he was a human rights activist who was a prominent figure during the civil rights movement. A spokesman for the Nation of Islam until 1964, he was a vocal advocate for black empowerment and the promotion of Islam within the black community.  Besides his skill as a speaker, Malcolm X had an impressive physical presence. He stood 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) tall and weighed about 180 pounds (82 kg). One writer described him as "powerfully built", and another as "mesmerizingly handsome ... and always spotlessly well-groomed".

                                                

 Louis E. Lomax said that "those who don't understand biblical prophecy wrongly label Malcolm X as a racist and as a hate teacher, or as being anti-white or as teaching Black Supremacy".Malcolm X was accused of being antisemitic according to statements he made.  What amazes me is that Lomax thinks he's an expert in bible prophecy.  In 1959, Lomax told his colleague Mike Wallace about the Nation of Islam. Lomax and Wallace produced a five-part documentary about the organization, The Hate That Hate Produced, which aired during the week of July 13, 1959. The program was the first time most white people heard about the Nation and its leader, Elijah Muhammad, as well as its charismatic spokesman, Malcolm X, considered the Nation's #2 man.  

                                                

 In 1961, Malcolm X spoke at a NOI rally alongside George Lincoln Rockwell-center in picture above, the head of the American Nazi Party; Rockwell claimed that there was overlap between black nationalism and white supremacy.

Remember the Muslim Englishman who broke into the Texas synagogue just recently who thought Jews had the power to get out the worst female terrorist in America from prison?  Malcolm X thought the same thing back in 2013.                     

This was the mid-1950s to the mid-60s — picture Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. marching arm-in-arm from Selma to Montgomery. And James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, murdered while organizing to register black voters in Mississippi.

Judaism teaches respect for the fundamental rights of others as each person's duty to God. "What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor" (Babylonian Talmud, Shabbat 31a). Equality in the Jewish tradition is based on the concept that all of God's children are "created in the image of God" (Genesis 1:27). From that flows the biblical injunction, "You shall have one law for the stranger and the citizen alike: for I, Adonai, am your God" (Leviticus 24:22).

American Jews played a significant role in the founding and funding of some of the most important civil rights organizations, including the NAACP, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).  The Nation of Islam, Malcolm X and Louis Farrakhan, group, was against the Martin Luther King and the NAACP.

While segregation was still the law of the land, Hillel professionals hosted an "Inter Racial Conference" at the Southeastern Hillel Conference, 1948.

In the newspaper, Hoosier,  Malcolm X stated that "Jews bought their equal rights and have hurt the Negroes by not instructing them how to better themselves economically.  "The Jew is always anxious to advise the Black man," he said. "But they never advise them how to solve their problem the way the Jews solved their problem.   The NAACP had Jewish lawyers working to help and not taking fees, and Malcom X said that that was not enough.  The Jew never went sitting-in, crawling-in, and sliding-in and helps Negroes to do."  The Jews stood up, stood together, and they used their ultimate power, the economic weapon. Jews pooled their money, bought the hotels that barred them.  They bought Atlantic City and Miami Beach and anything else they wanted.  With money donations, the Jews gain control.  Then he sends the Black man  doing all this wading in, boring in, even burying in, --everything but buying in, never showing him how to set up factories and hotels; never advises him how to own what he wants to.  No;  when there's something worth owning, the Jew's got it.                          

  He must think this is still the 1860's like in Gone With the Wind, though some white might still be thinking that way, too. Maybe by 2060 they'll realize the differences.  

Malcolm X then lumped the Jews in with the total white race in saying that the white man's primary interest is not to help the Black people but to make money and exploit him.  The white man is interested in the Black man only to the extent that the Black man is of use to him," he said.  "Any white man is against Blacks!" 

Why, even the white man took the Hungarian question to the U.N. And just this week, Chief Justice Goldberg was crying over three million Jews in Russia, about their human rights – charging Russia with violating the U.N. Charter because of its mistreatment of the human rights of Jews in Russia. Now you tell me how can the plight of everybody on this Earth reach the halls of the United Nations and you have twenty-two million Afro-Americans whose churches are being bombed, whose little girls are being murdered, whose leaders are being shot down in broad daylight? Now you tell me why the leaders of this struggle have never taken [recording impaired ] [their case to the U.N.?  

This would be very frustrating for Blacks to swallow when they were being abused.  We have had 2 huge problems coming from one source:  the fact that the majority people cannot tolerate someone who is different regardless of religion or race; just different.  It takes someone special to break from this mold and have empathy and give aid to those different people.

                     One of the goals of the civil rights movement was to end disenfranchisement of African Americans, but the Nation of Islam forbade its members from participating in voting and other aspects of the political process. The NAACP and other civil rights organizations denounced him and the Nation of Islam as irresponsible extremists whose views did not represent the common interests of African Americans.

From his adoption of the Nation of Islam in 1952 until he broke with it in 1964, Malcolm X promoted the Nation's teachings. These included beliefs:  Remember, Louis Farrakhan and Malcolm X were teaching these:

• that black people are the original people of the world
• that white people are "devils" and
• that the demise of the white race is imminent.

The Truth:   In 1954 that social order was challenged head-on. It was then that the United States Supreme Court rendered its judgment in Brown v. Board of Education, striking down racial segregation in public schools. Within the next dozen years, as a series of federal laws and court orders shattered every legal support of racial segregation, Southern Jews faced an agony of indecision. A very small number responded by joining the ardent segregationists. They were entirely atypical of Jews even in the Deepest South.

Black-Jewish Relations in the South

As far back as the 19th century, Jewish storekeepers were virtually the only Southern merchants who addressed black customers as “Mr.” and “Mrs.” and permitted them to try on clothing. By the early 20th century, a few Southern Jews even ventured to speak out against the evils of white supremacy. In 1929, Louis Isaac Jaffe, editorial writer for the Norfolk Virginia-Pilot won the Pulitzer Prize for his denunciation of lynching and the reactionary Harry Byrd political machine.

Malcolm spent his adolescence living in a series of foster homes or with relatives after his father's death and his mother's hospitalization. He engaged in several illicit activities, eventually being sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1946 for larceny and breaking and entering. 

In prison he joined the Nation of Islam (adopting the name Malcolm X to symbolize his unknown African ancestral surname) and after his parole in 1952 quickly became one of the organization's most influential leaders. He was the public face of the organization for a dozen years, advocating for black empowerment and separation of black and white Americans, and criticizing Martin Luther King Jr and the mainstream civil rights movement for its emphasis on nonviolence and racial integration. Malcolm X also expressed pride in some of the Nation's social welfare achievements, such as its free drug rehabilitation program. Throughout his life, beginning in the 1950s, Malcolm X endured surveillance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Following Malcolm X’s 1964 split from his former mentor, Elijah Muhammad, a rising star in the Nation was appointed to replace him at Temple No. 7. Louis Farrakhan had been working as a cabaret singer until he met Malcolm X and joined NOI in 1955.They share their anti-Semitic values in the Nation of Islam.
