immigration into US Surge Causing Breaking Point For Border Patrol

 Nadene Goldfoot

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) continue to deal

with a migration surge that has seen the agency encounter

north of 164,000 people in the southwest over the past 10

months, local police are being forced to pick up some of the

slack. "The Border Patrol agents and the sheriffs are beyond

a breaking point," Republican Congressman Tony Gonzales,

who represents the district, told Newsweek.Across Texas'

expansive 23rd congressional district, which runs about 800

miles from south of El Paso to north of Laredo, responding to

migrants trespassing through ranches and apprehending

smugglers has become a normal part of the job for police,

 Gonzales told Newsweek.

Right now, migrants fleeing “failing” Communist regimes in Latin America are overwhelming Border Patrol agents in southern Texas, according to new federal data.

Migrants from Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua “are driving a new wave of migration across the Western Hemisphere, including the recent increase in encounters at the southwest U.S. border,” said U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Chris Magnus this week. “[T]]hose fleeing repressive regimes pose significant challenges for processing and removal.”

More than 203,000 migrants were stopped along the length of the US southern border with Mexico in August, according to CBP statistics released earlier this week. Of that number, 55,333 were from Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua — a 175% surge in migrants from those countries compared to the previous year, CBP data shows.

The influence of Iran, and its proxy Hezbollah, which allegedly operates narco-money laundering activities in parts of Latin America, continues to pose an ever-present threat to Jewish communities as these entities have a long record of plotting violence against global Jewish targets.

While historically Hezbollah activity  was largely centered in the Triple Frontier between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil, it  is now  alleged by some analysts that such operations  have expanded to other countries, such as Venezuela.

ADL has long supported efforts to pressure Latin American governments to prevent Islamist extremists from operating in their borders and to fully designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. 2021 proved to be a year that many governments, including Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia, Guatemala and Honduras  designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, and so has the Organization of American States.

G.O.P. Governors Cause Havoc by Busing Migrants to East Coast

Thousands of migrants have been arriving on buses sent by the governors of Texas and Arizona. Many have ended up in homeless shelters and on the streets.

The entrance in Texas where immigrants enter

New photos released Monday by a Texas House Democrat show crowded conditions inside a U.S. Customs and Border Protection overflow facility in Donna, Texas, where migrants, including families with children, are being held for processing before their transfer to facilities operated by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Taken over the weekend, the photos show migrants, with their faces obscured by Rep. Henry Cuellar's office, sitting in crowded, makeshift quarters assembled by the U.S. Border Patrol to handle the increasing number of migrants crossing the southwest border and straining the Biden administration's existing facilities and resources.

Jewish communities in Latin America are ardently Zionist, with strong loyalty to their home countries along with an affinity for the State of Israel. Issues surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and broader issues in the Middle East directly impact local Jewish communities in the region, with noticeable spikes in antisemitic incidents when tensions rise as was the case in May 2021 during the conflict  between Israel and Hamas.  Guatemala and Honduras are the only countries in the region to have their embassies in Jerusalem. Paraguay briefly moved its embassy in May 2018 under the presidency of Horacio Cartes, but the move was reversed a few months later by President Mario Abdo Benitez. Brazil has signaled its willingness to move its embassy but has yet to fully implement the decision.   Venezuela and Cuba do not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

There is a vociferous anti-Israel group led by the Chilean Palestinian Federation that employs a systematic campaign to delegitimize the State of Israel, such as proposing a bill that seeks to strip away the Chilean citizenship of any adult who volunteers to serve in the Israeli army.  In addition, there is a pending bill in Congress to penalize individuals and companies who do business in “Illegal Settlements in Occupied Territories” - referring to Palestinian Territories. Unfortunately, the newly elected President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, supports such bill, and has made problematic statements in the past claiming Israel is a genocidal state and putting the onus on the local Jewish community to demand from Israel the return of Palestinian lands. We hope that the Boric administration will understand that such statements and actions may lead to expressions of antisemitism and put the local Jewish community at peril.

Aluf  "General" Bar Kokhba [Simeon ben Kosiba], nephew of Rabbi Eleaezar of Modiin and of Davidic descent.  Rabbi Akiva thought he was the Messiah.

The fact is that there are no Palestinian lands for Israel to return!  These countries obviously have false information spread by Palestinians or their sympathizers.  That's because "Palestine" was a a huge stretch of land named by the Romans after the Jewish Aluf "general" Bar Kokhba lost the 3 year  battle  in 135 and the Romans did that out of anger.  The Romans had named the Jewish land after the worst enemy the Jews had had.  Though the Romans had destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple there in 70, Bar Kokhba, had tried to regain it in 132's battle.  So Palestine wasn't a country with a king or President, it was the Roman name of land they had taken in battle through occupation and having the strongest army in the world.

National Barbecue Day: Unique American Cooking?

Nadene Goldfoot

 Texas Barbecue

Today is National Barbecue Day as reported on ABC this morning, and it looks delicious, even at this 8am morning!  I remember visiting my brother, David in Austin, Texas and we all went out for barbeque!  It was delicious and new to my palette.

We Jews usually tend to stay in the kosher line of eating beef not infested with a lot of veins and arteries but that parts others refuse to bother with, like the brisket.  We're famous brisket cooks, done in the oven slowly for hours till falling apart and so tender.  That's what you do with the tougher parts.  We are not to eat or touch blood, this is why the choice.

The nice thing about barbecue and watching the meat turn on a spit is that it also got very well done, falling apart almost and tender as can be.

Now, where does barbecue come from?  Why, Texas, of course, out on the plains where cowboys rode the herds to market and the cook of the group probably did a barbecue with baked beans for them all.  We've seen lots of John Wayne movies.  Texas as progressed and has great barbecue restaurants.

Is there any other place in the world who might practice barbecue?  How about Eastern Oregon?  There are plenty of cows out there, as my father should have known.  He'd drive out there to buy cattle at the auction yards in his cattle truck, a modern way of doing it which skips the cowboys and horses bit.  No, I remember a lot of Chinese restaurants there that produced delicious fare.  How about Australia?  Anywhere else?  How does Texas compare with anywhere else?

Well, my research finds that we have barbecue everywhere in Oregon!  In our own Willamette Valley we have :  "A serious foodie destination, Storrs Smokehouse in Newberg is the sister restaurant to the Painted Lady Restaurant, a tribute to chef/co-owner Allen Routt’s Southern roots. Routt serves up his family recipes — mouth-watering brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings and St. Louis-style pork ribs — paired with Pacific Northwest flavors like the house-made Oregon pinot noir barbecue sauce and homemade ice cream and biscuits. Call ahead to hear the daily offerings and arrange takeout."Definitely not a kosher find for me, but mouth-watering for many, it seems.

If I fly to Brooklyn, NY, I will go to Izzy's Brooklyn Smokehouse which is a Kosher barbecue joint serving platters, sandwiches, sides & desserts in relaxed surrounds, Dine-in and even curbside pickup and even delivery!  *****  It's a 5-star restaurant!

LBJ, Texas Democrat,  had a ranch in Texas and served barbecues.  Barbecue is apolitical.  Everyone likes it!  In fact, this food might be the glue to bring the two groups together.  Did anyone ever think of that?  Evidently not since Lyndon Baines Johnson 1963-1969.  Come to think of it, the Bushes also had a huge ranch.
The Bush family, Texas Republicans,  had barbecues too!  They had those over 1989-1993 and then from 2001-2009.  No wonder  the Republican senators are snarling; they're hungry for barbecue!

Texas is pretty much a Republican state, and so is eastern Oregon.  Did that have any bearing on the cooking habits of barbecue between Johnson and the Bushes?  How does barbecue stack up in each of our 50 states?

Opposing Perspectives About Holocaust Legitimacy Growing in Texas School

 Nadene Goldfoot

In "SOUTHLAKE, Texas, A top administrator with the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also offer students access to a book from an “opposing” perspective, according to an audio recording obtained by NBC News."  What?  They are to oppose historical facts?

I would hope that this concerned high school seniors who could have had a unit on the "Holocaust."  Such a book may have been supplementary material to go along with the textbook.

How could the top administrator suggest they read an opposing piece of material to the Holocaust?  Is anyone suggesting that the idea of mass killings of millions of people today is permissible?   Saying such a statement would mean that they should read something like Mein Kampf?  Or are they to present Holocaust deniers' arguments?

Mein Kampf is a 1925 autobiographical manifesto by Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler. The work describes the process by which Hitler became antisemitic and outlines his political ideology and future plans for Germany. Volume 1 of Mein Kampf was published in 1925 and Volume 2 in 1926.  Such a book became  very popular with the Arab population and look how so many have turned out.  Completely anti-semitic!

Is this what this administrator thinks is a safe book for American high school students? I should hope not. Nazis would be the first to deny the Holocaust.   Let me tell you something:  I remember being a young girl and seeing my Jewish father reading Mein Kampf.  He never before read a book in his life, being too busy working and developing his business as a wholesale meat dealer.  He was very quiet about the book with me, but acted very shocked.  He was an adult with a wife and children and he was shocked.  What do you think high school students will react like?  There's the possibility that THEY might be suggestible like the Arabs were and turn against the Jews.  That's my fear.

I've actually read every word of a book about the Holocaust, and read it as a middle aged adult:  THE Holocaust-A HISTORY OF THE JEWS OF EUROPE DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR, by Martin Gilbert.  It's index goes from page 897-959;  62 pages worth.  Elie Wiesel's comment was that this book must be read, but I think age would be a deciding point, as it's hard to swallow.

Teachers at this same school district go through training about books.  The training came four days after the Carroll school board, responding to a parent’s complaint, voted to reprimand a fourth grade teacher who had kept an anti-racism book in her classroom.  During the recent training, this was recorded and shared with NBC.  (Are there children's books of Anti-Racism on the market? Who was reading it? )

“Just try to remember the concepts of [House Bill] 3979,” Peddy said in the recording, referring to a new Texas law that requires teachers to present multiple perspectives when discussing “widely debated and currently controversial” issues. “And make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust,” Peddy continued, “that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives.”

“How do you oppose the Holocaust?” one teacher said in response.

“Believe me,” Peddy said. “That’s come up.”  (Notice, he doesn't have an answer as there is none, but he expects the teachers to understand and abide by such nonsense.)  If they were discussing Covid 19, I know there are lots of pros and cons, and I saw a great debate on that with Robert Kennedy, son of the Senator who's also a lawyer, with Alan Dershowitz.  You can't debate, at least logically and fairly, about the Holocaust.

I've been a judge in a high school of their debate class.  Of course, if you don't want people to be brain-washed, they must know both sides of a problem.  Hearing only one side, you can develop a Civil War in your own country with people knowing only one fact.   But you just can't say, pick any book that is against the Holocaust, as there are a lot of Nazi-type books and anti-Semitic book out on the web and in the stores and libraries and on you-tube as well, probably.  Really, prepping students intelligently and mercifully should be a part of the Holocaust studies, but beware of any anti-Semitic material someone could introduce to minds just beginning to understand.

The Carroll Independent School District has acquired yet another Midlothian ISD administration staff member, as it has named Karen Fitzgerald as its new executive director of communications.

Carroll spokeswoman Karen Fitzgerald said the district is trying to help teachers comply with the new state law and an updated version that will go into effect in December, Texas Senate Bill 3.  “Our district recognizes that all Texas teachers are in a precarious position with the latest legal requirements,” Fitzgerald wrote, noting that the district’s interpretation of the new Texas law requires teachers to provide balanced perspectives not just during classroom instruction, but in the books that are available to students in class during free time. “Our purpose is to support our teachers in ensuring they have all of the professional development, resources and materials needed. Our district has not and will not mandate books be removed nor will we mandate that classroom libraries be unavailable.”Fitzgerald said that teachers who are unsure about a specific book “should visit with their campus principal, campus team and curriculum coordinators about appropriate next steps.”

Clay Robison is a Spokesperson at Texas State Teachers Association based in Austin, Texas. Previously, Clay was a Marketing Communications Intern at Austin Technology Incubator.

Clay Robison, a spokesman for the Texas State Teachers Association, a union representing educators, said there’s nothing in the new Texas law explicitly dealing with classroom libraries. Robison said the book guidelines at Carroll, a suburban school district near Fort Worth, are an “overreaction” and a “misinterpretation” of the law. Three other Texas education policy experts agreed.  “We find it reprehensible for an educator to require a Holocaust denier to get equal treatment with the facts of history,” Robison said. “That’s absurd. It’s worse than absurd. And this law does not require it.”

They could read this book.

When Romek Wajsman was liberated from the brutal concentration camp of Buchenwald in 1945, both his physical and emotional selves had been subjected to unfathomable torments. Only fourteen years old, Romek, who would later assume the name Robbie Waisman as an emigrant to Canada, had lived before the war in a small Polish shtetl. (I"m already questioning the truth in this novel.  I can't understand how a young child was in the concentration camp who could have been 10 when he first arrived. "As many as 1.5 million Jewish children alone were murdered or died at the hands of Nazi officials or their collaborators."

It's not good to tell lies in order to reach the child's level of understanding, but not get into detail at certain ages.  It's like the old joke of a child asking where he came from and the mother going into great detail about the birds and the bees and people.  The child listened, then commented.  Oh, Johnnie said he was from Florida.  I'm thinking of the 6th graders (11 to 12 years old) studying the Holocaust.  None of us want them to be horrified, or fed with anti-Semitism, either.

In Texas, however, each public school student shall receive mandatory instruction in the Holocaust, genocide and human rights violations from grade six through grade twelve. Students should be reading appropriate -aged books about the Holocaust, and certainly nothing to argue for killing Jews.  There's no position for such stupidity.  Nothing on earth can be given for killing 6 million people for any reason.  The Nazis killed people who were not perfect, besides the Jews.  No country does that, either.  We all pride ourselves for developing humane cultures, quite the opposite of what the Nazis developed.

I certainly hope that the teachers involved in this teaching are not Holocaust deniers, themselves.  Those are the very ones who should be learning the opposing view that the Holocaust happened and that 6 million Jews were horribly killed ,and that no one has the right to slaughter an entire people.  Major misconceptions about the Holocaust are common among teachers, research suggests.

Most teachers in England lack the knowledge to combat common myths and falsehoods about the atrocity, research by University College London's Centre for Holocaust Education suggests.  They said there had been improvements since a similar study in 2009.  But the researchers warned of "real-world consequences" from a lack of understanding.  The research found:

This lesson plan from Britain  helps students to analyze the different roles played by those involved in the Holocaust and aims to provide students with the opportunity to realize the individual and total impact of their actions.

  • Most teachers did not know where or when the Holocaust began:  Most could not correctly identify the proportion of the German population that was Jewish in 1933:
  • Whatever unit material is provided for them did not provide enough information, taking in consideration that they should provide the teacher with some knowledge as well, as teachers may not take the time to educate themselves about the Holocaust, the most horrible event on earth that ended 76 years ago.

Jewish students should be aware of the time when Haman of Persia tried to do this very thing and was stopped by Queen Esther and her King, Ahasueros.  He had set out to kill all the Jews in the Persian kingdom. That's what Purim is all about.   The massacre started, but  was stopped, It happened from 1939-1945 in the Holocaust.   It could happen again.

Texas Leading Again, This Time Against Anti-Semitism

 Nadene Goldfoot

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) speaks during a press conference preceding a House Oversight and Reform subcommittee hearing on Capitol Hill on July 10, 2019 in Washington, DC.(Photo by Zach Gibson/Getty Images)

First, Texas led the way by putting an end to teaching "Critical Race Theory" to all levels of school children, seeing that such teaching could even cause anti-Semitism, and now is leading the way by adopting the bill to adopt the IHRA definition of what anti-Semitism amounts to.

It seems to be triggered by  Rashida Tlaib's highly anti-Semitic comments about Israel lately that were completely false, amounting to a great deal of anti-Semitic thinking which shocked other Senators who were far more knowlegable on the subject.   Jews in attendance must have been irate hearing about  her tweets.  "The eldest of 14 children, Rashida Harbi was born on July 24, 1976, to working-class Palestinian immigrants in Detroit."

Here's a plot going on planning some ethnic cleansing-doing away with Jews.  This is Haj Amin al-Husseini, Sherif of Jerusalem, the Grand Mufti, appointed by the British during their 30 year holding the contract to administer Palestine.  He was the big-shot who wanted to be the king or ruler or what-have you.  Too bad for him that the Ottoman Empire lost the battle of WWI.  He and Hitler had a change of plans.

She had her tweet ready and tweeted.   Tlaib’s tweet came in response to Israel launching airstrikes against Hamas targets in response to incendiary balloons fired from the Gaza Strip. This is what has been happening daily since the 11 day attack of Gaza against Israel; incendiary balloons causing fires in all of ISRAEL'S wheat fields, produce, etc.  She accused Israel in her tweet of ethnic cleansing.   If anyone could be accused of that, more likely it was the Palestinians against the Jews.  Every act of Israel has been that of defense, certainly not offense.

"After racist and violent ‘death to Arabs’ marches earlier today in Jerusalem, children in Gaza are being woken by bombs in the middle of the night,” Tlaib tweeted, referencing a flag march earlier in the day. “Israel’s government doesn’t value Palestinian lives. It has managed a decades-long ethnic cleansing project, funded by the U.S.”

Anti-Defamation League (ADL(CEO Jonathan Greenblatt tweeted in response on June 16, “We can and should have policy debates. But pushing a narrative libelously accusing Israel of ethnic cleansing or not seeing Palestinians as human – or focusing only on Israeli airstrikes without recognizing those are responses to attacks by terrorists – is wrong and dangerous.”   and that Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) accusing Israel of “ethnic cleansing” is “dangerous.”

Texas passed the bill to define anti-Semitism.  The Working Definition of Antisemitism (also called the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism or IHRA definition) is a 38-word statement on what antisemitism is. The statement reads:

Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.

Accompanying the definition are eleven illustrative examples, of which seven relate to Israel.

Manifestations might include the targeting of the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity. However, criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic. Antisemitism frequently charges Jews with conspiring to harm humanity, and it is often used to blame Jews for “why things go wrong.” It is expressed in speech, writing, visual forms and action, and employs sinister stereotypes and negative character traits.

Contemporary examples of antisemitism in public life, the media, schools, the workplace, and in the religious sphere could, taking into account the overall context, include, but are not limited to:

  • Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion.(ISIS)
  • Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as collective — such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.
  • Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews.
  • Denying the fact, scope, mechanisms (e.g. gas chambers) or intentionality of the genocide of the Jewish people at the hands of National Socialist Germany and its supporters and accomplices during World War II (the Holocaust).
  • Accusing the Jews as a people, or Israel as a state, of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust.
  • Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or to the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interests of their own nations.
  • Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.
  • Applying double standards by requiring of it a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation. (This has gone on constantly in UN)
  • Using the symbols and images associated with classic antisemitism (e.g., claims of Jews killing Jesus or blood libel) to characterize Israel or Israelis.
  • Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.
  • Holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the state of Israel.

Antisemitic acts are criminal when they are so defined by law (for example, denial of the Holocaust or distribution of antisemitic materials in some countries).

Criminal acts are antisemitic when the targets of attacks, whether they are people or property – such as buildings, schools, places of worship and cemeteries – are selected because they are, or are perceived to be, Jewish or linked to Jews.

Antisemitic discrimination is the denial to Jews of opportunities or services available to others and is illegal in many countries.

In 2016, the working definition and its list of examples was adopted by a plenary meeting of the 31 countries in the IHRA.  In 2020, Independent Jewish Voices (Canada) published a definition of antisemitism which states that: "antisemitism is not an exceptional form of bigotry. People who hate, discriminate and/or attack Jews, will also hate, discriminate and/or attack other protected groups—including racialized people, Muslims, LGBTQ2+, women, Indigenous peoples."

Following its adoption by the IHRA, the working definition has been adopted for internal use by a number of government and political institutions: as at June 2021, the definition has been adopted or recognized by 36 countries, as well as the European Parliament and other national and international bodies.

Objections to the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism motivated the creation of the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism, released in March 2021. This document, signed by some 200 international scholars, is intended to be used instead of the IHRA definition, or as a supplement to guide interpretation of the IHRA definition for groups that have already adopted it.

In the same month, a group of scholars and leaders affiliated with the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California called the "Nexus Task Force" published a definition undertaking to understand antisemitism "at its nexus with Israel and Zionism" and asserting that most criticism of Zionism and of Israel is not antisemitic. This definition was endorsed by "more than 100 prominent Jewish leaders in a September letter to President Joe Biden".  Nexus actually means a connection.  (connection, link the nexus between teachers and students also : a causal link the nexus between poverty and crime. 2 : a connected group or series a nexus of theories a nexus of relationships.)

The accepted take on this is that it's okay to criticize Israel as one would criticize any other country, but when it comes to more than that-it is plain old anti-Semitism.

Let's face it.  Israel is the only Jewish country in the world, created out of dire necessity.  Another fact to face:  Anti-Semitism started in the 300s.  It's never ended.  Even in the good old USA, it has prevailed.  Anti-Semitism balances between feelings, acts, bad and even violent causing deaths throughout the ages.  It's getting worse today, mirror imaging the acts done to Israel.  There wasn't needed an Israel to copy before 1948.  We did have the Holocaust where Nazis tried to exterminate every single one of us ending in 1945.  There's always been reasons, imagined, where Jews have been the scapegoat of the world, and now the scapegoat is Israel and we in the diaspora are also goats.  You cannot leave out Israel in any judgement of whether something is an anti-Semitic act or not.  Jews and Israel are in a relationship whether they like it or not.  We always have been.

International human rights lawyer, Arsen Ostrovksy, similarly tweeted that Tlaib was promulgating “more lies.” “The chants were vile and also condemned. Meantime, no mention by you what led to strikes on Gaza, [which] was Hamas firing dozens of incendiary devices on southern Israel, scorching countless amount on land. Stop shilling for Hamas and inciting racial hatred!”

These are the committees Tlaib serves on:  These are the Oversight and Reform subcommittees Congresswoman Tlaib also serves on:

House Committee on Financial Services : The Committee oversees all components of the nation's housing and financial services sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities.

  • Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy
  • Subcommittee on the Environment- Vice Chair

In addition, Rep. Tlaib has joined the following caucuses:

  • Auto Caucus
  • Black Maternal Healthcare Caucus
  • Congressional Progressive Caucus
  • Democratic Women's Caucus
  • Free Syria Caucus
  • Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Legislative Caucus
  • Historically Black Colleges & Universities Caucus
  • House Manufacturing Caucus
  • LGBT Equality Caucus
  • Medicare for All Caucus
  • Pro-Choice Caucus
  • Small Brewers Caucus

Update: 6/18/21 7:30am  Tlaib, born and raised in Detroit, is the first Palestinian-American elected to Congress. She supports the one-state solution and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against Israel. Due to their support of the BDS movement, Israel barred Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from entering the country in 2019 shortly after their elections.  American Jewish leaders say tweets by the two Democrats stoke anti-Semitic tensions and create an environment that normalizes Jews-hatred.
