Israel's Women in Green Were Against the Oslo Accords and Why

 Nadene Goldfoot

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, U.S. President Bill Clinton, and Yasser Arafat at the Oslo Accords signing ceremony on 13 September 1993
These women were brave to have taken on such powerful groups such as the leaders of the Oslo Accords and scream over lost land of the Jews.  Our leaders had no chance to hold Judea and Samaria when it was given to Prince Abdullah, and took the little land that was left for them instead of refusing any of it.  Now that the land had fallen to Israel in 1967, these women didn't want any to be given away for a false peace.

Women for Israel's Tomorrow (Hebrew: נשים למען עתיד ישראל) more commonly known as Women in Green (Hebrew: נשים בירוק‎) is an Israel non profit organization established in 1993 by Ruth and Michael Matar in response to the Oslo Accords. The organization was  headed by Nadia Matar and Yehudit Katsover.  Not everyone knew that Ruth, an artist, was also a child Holocaust survivor, who at age eight had witnessed Nazi stormtroopers come to her home, knock down the door and beat her mother, who had turned back to get warm jackets for the children.

From 1993 until 2005 the movement was led by Ruth Matar and her daughter-in-law Nadia Matar.   It was on September 13, 1993, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Negotiator Mahmoud Abbas signed a Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements, commonly referred to as the “Oslo Accord,” at the White House.   They were against the Oslo accords because it was relinquishing Israel's sovereign land of Judea and Samaria.

Their solution to their own and to the world's peace was to have Arabs removed and relocated to other parts who didn't want to live peacefully, and give them the money to do so.  Those who remained could become full citizens.

They were against the expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif.

"In 2004 Nadia Matar compared the government's intention to remove Jews from Gaza to the involvement of the Judenrat ("Jewish Council") in Berlin in 1942, which, under orders from the German government expelled the Jewish community from that city."

Nadia Matar, chairman of the right-wing movement "Women in Green" who is standing trial for calling the outgoing Disengagement Authority Chairman Yonatan Bassi "a Judenrat" refuses to apologize.

"We can't be intimidated, we can't be silenced. I don't take back any word I wrote to Yonatan Bassi, on the contrary – only now we're witnessing how much grief this man, along with other expulsion criminals, has caused the Israeli people, especially to our expelled brethren," Matar said.

Matar, whose trial opened on Wednesday, is charged with insulting a public servant.

"With everything that is happening to Sderot and to all Israelis, the word 'Judenrat' is even too mild," Matar stated upon entering the Magistrate Court in Jerusalem. "No one has come up with the right word to describe the monstrosity of Jews who inflict so much damage on other Jews. Words like kapo, traitor, or collaborator are also too mild."

It's been 102 years since the San Remo Conference.  The San Remo conference was an international meeting of the post-World War I Allied Supreme Council as an outgrowth of the Paris Peace Conference, held at Villa Devachan in Sanremo, Italy, from 19 to 26 April 1920l.  This is where it was decided, among other things, to put Palestine under British Mandatory rule. At San Remo, the Allies confirmed the pledge contained in the Balfour Declaration concerning the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine.  As shown by the map, the original mandate was for all of Palestine;

However, in 1921, Winston Churchill severed roughly 78 percent of Palestine to establish the Emirate of Transjordan where Britain’s ally, Abd Allah ibn al-Husayn (Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein (Arabic: عبد الله الأول بن الحسين, Abd Allāh al-Awwal bin al-Husayn), was installed as king. Julie Murray explained, “The division between the British and French territories was clarified in the Franco-British Convention on Certain Points Connected with the Mandates for Syria and the Lebanon, Palestine and Mesopotamia, signed in December of 1920, in which there is no mention of Transjordan, as it is presumed to be part of the British mandate of Palestine.”

Abraham A. Sion is Professor Emeritus at Ariel University (Ariel University, previously a public college known as the Ariel University Center of Samaria, is an Israeli university located in the Israeli settlement of Ariel in the West Bank. The college preceding the establishment of Ariel University was founded in 1982 as a regional branch of Bar-Ilan University) where for over a decade he chaired the Center for Law and Mass Media. He earned his expertise in the Arab-Israeli conflict through intensive research, international and local conferences, lectures, articles, think tanks, and debates in TV and radio shows for over thirty years. Simultaneously, Prof. Sion practiced law in civil and administrative matters. He also served as Deputy State Attorney for Israel.

Hot off the press is the new book by Prof. Abraham Sion, To Whom

Was the Promised Land Promised?  In this book, he drilled down into the constitutional nucleus from which the State of Israel emerged in international law.  after a close study of hundreds of documents, certificates, minutes and articles, he presents the reader with an unequivocal statement whereby there can be no doubt as to whether the Land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people according to international law.  He points out that the whole world has ignored certain facts he's noticed.  Interesting that it also points out that the recent Arabs who won the British friendship were rewarded-had nothing to do with an ancient population.  This was actually against the British mandate. It does make you wonder.

With Professor Eugene Kontorovich, highly reputed international lawyer who defends Israel, we should have some convincing arguments that the world has had the wrong information and that Israel has every right to populate Judea and Samaria.  He was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, a place we've become very familiar with in recent news of Ukraine.

Professor of Law Eugene Kontorovich is one of the world’s preeminent experts on universal jurisdiction and maritime piracy, as well as international law and the Israel-Arab conflict. He is also the Director of Scalia Law School's Center for the Middle East and International Law. Professor Kontorovich joined the Scalia Law School from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law where he was a Professor of Law from 2011 to 2018 and an Associate Professor from 2007 to 2011. Previously, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago from 2005 to 2007 and an Assistant Professor at George Mason School of Law from 2003 to 2007.

He immigrated to Israel in 2013 with his wife and four children, and lived in the Alon Shvut settlement.  Alon Shvut (Hebrew: אַלּוֹן שְׁבוּת) is an Israeli village referred to as a settlement,  located southwest of Jerusalem, one kilometer northeast of Kfar Etzion, in Judea-Samaria, referred to as  the West Bank. Established in June 1970 in the heart of the Etzion bloc, Alon Shvut became the prototype for Jewish communities in the region. It is administered by the Gush Etzion Regional Council, and neighbors the communities of Kfar Etzion, Rosh Tzurim, Neve Daniel, Elazar, Bat Ayin, Midgal Oz, and Efrat. In 2019, its population was 3,098.  He's a lawyer who put his foot where his mouth was.  He's my favorite defender of Israel.

The ladies in Green blamed Yonatan Bassi of Israel's government who was in charge of leaving Gush Katif and northern Samaria.  Bassi had assume the role of Evacuation authority director which was a demographic problem. Yonatan Bassi, head of the government administration in charge of Israel's planned withdrawal, listens during a news conference outlining the government's plans in Jerusalem, . Bassi said Sunday a total of 20 families from the southern Gaza Strip Jewish settlement of Peat Sadeh have finalized agreements with the government to move and the community will be the first dismantled under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's plan.

He had been told by others that there need not be a territorial continuity of Jewish settlements in order to maintain democracy.  For example:  "the United Kingdom is spread over the mainland, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, and many other places, including British Honduras and various islands in the ocean - all of which do not share territorial continuity. They all vote for the same parliament in London. It is all arbitrary; it is as good logic to join Northern Ireland to the Irish republic as to the UK. In the event, it is the non-territorial continuity alternative that history selected - i.e., Northern Ireland is joined across the water to the UK, as a result of its history.  Similarly, Gush Katif is not within Gaza, it is next to it; like the relationship of many other Jewish areas to many other Arab areas. According to your principle of separating the populations, you will soon have no Israel at all - since there are Arabs everywhere."

.

We all know what happened when Israel left all of Gaza for the Palestinians.  They turned it into a staging platform to shoot rockets into Israel.  They have kept this up to the present day.  Israel learned a huge lesson by doing this.  Being nice and civilized only made Israel weak in the Palestinian eye, sadly.

More religious Zionist women are leading the way.  The Moskowitz Prize for Zionism was awarded for the 12th time in a moving ceremony in Jerusalem last Tuesday. The prize, also known as the 'Lion of Zion' Prize, is awarded annually to three people as recognition for their life's work and for their contribution to the State of Israel and the Jewish People. Since 2013, the ceremony has also included the awarding of a further prize – the 'Spirit of Zion' Prize – to two young Israelis with a promising social initiative.

In 2005, Yehudit Katsover from Kiryat Arba-Hebron, a veteran activist for the Land of Israel, principal of the Teachers’ College in Kiryat Arba-Hevron, a branch of Efrata College, joined the group. Since then she has been leading Women in Green together with Nadia Matar.

The group added an element of practical activism, believing that this addition was necessary to strengthen the hold on all of the territories of the Land of Israel. Katsover and Matar focused the activities on parts of Area C (West Bank), where, according to their claim, the Palestinian Authority is attempting, with foreign funding, to seize lands belonging to the State of Israel.

The movement and its activists fought for the opening of the Walaja bypass road to allow access from the west to Gush Etzion, they restored the Jewish presence to the Shdema military camp between Har Homa and Tekoa and to Adurayim, which is south of Mount Hebron; they planted trees on state land in Netzer, which is between Alon Shvut and Elazar in order to prevent Arab take-over of these lands, and they organized activities to strengthen the Jewish presence on the Eitam Hill (Givat Eitam, in Hebrew), which is located in Efrat.

The group integrates its vigils and activities with cultural and educational activities such as concerts, exhibitions, lectures, lessons and more.

BDS and the 1949 Green Line in Israel

Nadene Goldfoot
1920 Palestine of British Mandate
"The Green Line or (pre-)1967 border or 1949 Armistice border[1] is the demarcation line set out in the 1949 Armistice Agreements between the armies of Israel and those of its neighbors (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria) after the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. It served as the de facto borders of the State of Israel from 1949 until the Six-Day War in 1967.

The War of Independence started on 29 November 1947 when Arabs responded with violence to the UN resolution on Palestine, and lasted until the signing of the Armistice Agreements in 1949.  "

The Palestinians were followers of  Haj Amin al Husseini, Mufti of Jerusalem, 1948 "I declare a holy war, my Muslim brothers!  Murder the Jews!  Murder them all!"

Professor Kontorovich, Northwestern Law School expert on International Law,  explains about The Green Line, or 1949 armistice lines, which are neither a political nor a territorial boundary and have no legal force under international law, didn’t correspond to any prior administrative border.  http://legalinsurrection.com/2016/03/the-legal-case-for-israels-settlements/

Kontorovich says that once Great Britain left, the mandate over Palestine—which was explicitly for the purpose of re-establishing a Jewish national home—just expired. The area became essentially a territory without a sovereign.Britain left Palestine on May 14, 1948 and then Israel was announced a state, in agreement with the UN.

"On May 14, 1948, in Tel Aviv, Jewish Agency Chairman David Ben-Gurion proclaims the State of Israel, establishing the first Jewish state in 2,000 years. In an afternoon ceremony at the Tel Aviv Art Museum, Ben-Gurion pronounced the words “We hereby proclaim the establishment of the Jewish state in Palestine, to be called Israel,” prompting applause and tears from the crowd gathered at the museum. Ben-Gurion became Israel’s first premier."

July 24, 1922 Palestine and Giving away 80% of the land
After the Six-Day War, the territories captured by Israel beyond the Green Line came to be designated as East Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights, and Sinai Peninsula (the Sinai Peninsula has since been returned to Egypt as part of the 1979 peace treaty). These territories are often referred to as Israeli-occupied territories."  President Gamal Abdel Nasser, May 27, 1967 said, "Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel."

1949 Armistice Line

We have come to disagree with the term, Occupied Territories, which fall outside the Green Line.  This is land that was originally Judah and Samaria,  part of the Jewish Homeland as decided by the League of Nations and agreed upon also by it's counterpart and outgrowth of the United Nations.  It was in the hands of the Brits who held the mandate for 30 years, with the proviso that the Brits were to help bring about the Jewish Homeland by working with the Jews on this endeavor.  Instead, they gave away 80% of the land to Abdullah of Saudi Arabia who created TransJordan.

Though there never has been a nation or state of Palestine, the Palestinian Arab leaders were offered a state of their own by the Brits when they saw fighting going on before Israel announced their statehood in 1947.  The Arabs refused the offer, instead opting for the whole land of Palestine for themselves and intending to drive the Jews into the sea.  They have continued to turn down offers to this day.  In fact, they have been at war with other surrounding states in 1956, 1967, 1972 and etc.

The Kartoum Conference in 1968 had decided that all Arabs would never make peace with Israel.  Yet, the UN and USA continue to demand a 2 state solution.  Israel has always been for peace and has been willing to sit down and make peace with the Arabs, but they have arrived at a stalemate, with the Palestinians adamant about not discussing it again at this time.

This means that the UN, an organization now loaded with Arab countries who are very much against Israel, are demanding that settlements be stopped past the Green Line.  That means they want the border to be at the 1949 position, which Israel has explained over and over again to be impossible to defend and impossible to expect from Israel.

JStreet, the opposing group to AIPAC, with original funder being.George Soros, also is against Jewish settlement past the Green line and calls their communities "settlements" in "Occupied Territory."  They say they are opposed to the Global Movement of BDS but are highly opposed to Jews living in land they won in the 67 War.  This includes East Jerusalem in which is now inclusive to the city of Jerusalem and is part of Israel today.  This horrid 67 war in which Israel's neighbors ganged up on the tiny state and attacked together, only to lose to Israel, was in a sense, a blessing for Israel in that they gained back land that was intended for them in the first place.  It allowed them to be able to pray at the Kotel (Western Wall) for the 1st time since 1948 in Jerusalem.  Soros and members of this group are not skilled in International Law, nor really care about the welfare of Israel, in my opinion.

"Soros was born in Budapest in the Kingdom of Hungary to a well-to-do non-observant Jewish family, who, like many upper-middle class Hungarian Jews at the time, were uncomfortable with their roots.  He was in the Holocaust as a young teenager, and since has become a billionaire without much education about either Judaism or Israel, for he thinks he knows better than Israel's government, and he has promoted his own ideas and not those of Israel.  He has no respect for Israelis' decisions and is dictating his ideals to American Jews.  AIPAC, on the other hand, is just the opposite and runs interference against anti-Semitism/ Israel and explains Israel's situatations and facts to American Senators.  Yet he should know that peace was not in the offering to Israel with Iraqi President Abdel Rahman Aref, saying on May 31, 1967:  "The existence of Israel is an error which must be rectified.  this is our opportunity to wipe out the ignominy which has been with us since 1948.  Our goal is clear---to wipe Israel off the map."

Professor Eugene Kontorovich, International Law Professor, said, " I oppose the boycott of Israel. And, no, I don’t care if boycotts are occasionally effective and sometimes promote social justice. I still think it’s wrong to use economic intimidation to get your way, even if your way is just.   But one thing I hate more than boycotts are people who try to use the power of government to punish people who support boycotts."

Kontorovich explains why Israel isn't an unlawful occupying power, which is what BDS people claim.  He claims that presenting Jewish settlement in the West Bank territory (ancient Judea and Samaria) as illegal or ‘colonial’ ignores both the historical complexities of the issue and the legal circumstances.

His current presentation updates the arguments he has presented , bolstering them with new comparative research on “other countries’ settlements” and how the international community has reacted to these occupations..

This one is a MUST to listen to and take notes.  Kontorovich has a video to listen to on this very subject.  This explains a lot.  Reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub2x5UvjUs4

Arabs throwing rocks at Jews on Temple Mount in Jerusalem
Hatred for Jews and Israel is taught in their schools in Judea-Samaria
Where is a movement that would get them to accept Israel?
BDS only stirs them up against Israelis.
Summary of BDS is that it is plain old ANTI SEMITISM being used for no legitimate reasons against the only Jewish State in the world.  Not only is it the only Jewish state, but the only true Democratic state in the Middle East.  For this reason, the Arabs are up in arms and have manipulated the West by playing on their basic anti-Semitic feelings towards Jews.  There is no excuse for Jews who have climbed the JStreet Band Wagon to brag that they are opposed to the Global BDS Movement who is conducting this attack on Israel and then to turn around and condemn Israelis for crossing the Green line and living on the other side on land that they have won fairly in a horrendous attack against them!  Israel happens to be one of the most open societies in the world.  Now holding 6 million Jews and 1.7 million Arabs, back when they were only populated with 5 million, 842,000 or 18% were non-Jews (655,000 Muslims, 120,000 Christians and 80,000 Druze.)  Therefore, BDS are not only running interference with Jews, but other people like themselves.

Jews have waited since 70 CE to regain their land, almost 2,000 years.  We now have many changes happening to Israel's neighbors.  We have Egypt and Jordan signing peace agreements.  Perhaps the Palestinians will actually be ready for peace with Israel by 2070.  They are not ready right now, and BDS is not helping to bring about their change towards Israel.

Obama's Affect on Gilo, Israel and International Law Towards Israel

Nadene Goldfoot
Democrats: Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton

Down to 3 Republicans running, Cruz, Kasich, Trump
Republicans, pared down from 17 to 3;  Donald  Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich.
In selecting our vote for the next president, let's look at our present Obama administration's 2 terms  and what it has stood for as far as Israel is concerned.  Michael Oren's comment has done that:
Quote of the Week:
A street in Gilo, Jerusalem, Israel
“Obama has a worldview that would challenge any government in Israel, rightwing or leftwing. His worldview is so foreign to us. For example his intense reluctance to use military force; or his cooperation with international organizations that are always condemning us, like the Human Rights Council; reaching out his hand to the Muslims and Iran; the demand that we freeze all construction even in Jerusalem – even Meretz couldn’t freeze all the construction in Gilo – but that’s what Obama demanded.” - Michael Oren, a former Israeli Ambassador to the US
Prof. Eugene Kontorovich
Michael Oren

I'll put up a spokesman for Israel's rights anytime against Obama's views of international law.  My selection is Professor Eugene Kontorovich, who understands international law completely.  "
A new research article shows that under the universal rules that determine the borders of new states, Israel upon its creation have included the West Bank and Gaza.  Gilo would be considered as in the area of Judea and Samaria-commonly called the West Bank.

Gilo is a large neighborhood in East Jerusalem, which was before 1967, inhabited mostly by Arabs since it was part of Jordan's territory, illegally taken.  After 1967's war, Jerusalem was freed and the barriers were taken down separating East from the rest of the city and was unified.  It's in the SW section of East Jerusalem and is inhabited by about 40,000 Jews, legalized by the 1980 Israeli law. "It is administered as part of the Jerusalem municipality. "
Gilo is located on a hilltop in southwestern East Jerusalem separated from Beit Jala by a deep gorge. The Tunnels Highway to Gush Etzion runs underneath it on the east, and the neighborhood of Har Gilo is visible on the adjacent peak. Beit Safafa and Sharafat are located north of Gilo, while Bethlehem is to the South.  Remember, most places are very close since Israel is only 8,000 sq miles small.   Obama has expected all construction to stop in this 40,000 Jewish community for years and years and years.

Samuel anointing David

Gilo was a big part of our biblical history, found in the Bible.  "The biblical town of Gilo is mentioned in the Book of Joshua (Joshua 15:51) and the Book of Samuel (II Sam 15:12).  Some scholars believe that biblical Gilo was located in the central Hebron Hills, whereas the name of the modern neighborhood was chosen because of its proximity to Beit Jala, possibly a corruption of Gilo.  A city in the southwest part of the hill-country of Judah (Josh. 15:51), Gilo was the birthplace of Ahithophel "the Gilonite" (Josh. 15:51; 2 Sam. 15:12), and the place where he committed suicide (17:23). Gilo has been identified with Kurbet Jala, about 7 miles (11 km) north of Hebron."

Now, what candidate is most likely to continue this policy? Most likely, It's Hillary Clinton, who has been Obama's Secretary of State in his first 4 years.  Then we have Sanders, a Jewish man who is not standing up for Israel.  The only thing I've heard from him are attacks.  It's ironic that here is a chance for Jews in America to have a Jewish president and he has blown it by not really saying a thing good about Israel.  Our Christian presidential hopefuls have been much more vocal about their support, such as Cruz and Rubio, Republicans. Trump wants a chance to sit down with the Jews and Palestinians to bring about peace.  After all, he wrote the book on the Deal.  He's a deal maker.  My hope is that he would learn of Israel's special needs for safety-first before he makes any deals.  The Obama administration has wanted deals that did not take this into consideration, expecting Israel to go back to the 67 lines, or the 49 lines.  They had a big bru-ha-ha over this which evolved to be seen on live TV. where Netanyahu had to give Obama quite a lecture about why this wasn't a good idea for Israel.

"The Arabs have wanted to destroy Israel's heartland.  That's why they have not made peace for the 67 years of Israel's existence.  If Israel had a willing partner in the Palestine Authority who also said they wanted peace, how perfect that would be.  Yet they bombed southern Israel again and again.  They would have their break, rested up, probably dug some more tunnels, and here  went the bombing again.  Sderot and Ashkelon suffered the most.

Now we have the horrid agreement with Iran, a country who has said loud and clear that they are the power holders and want very badly to destroy Israel.

Obama's affect on people who support Israel has been very distressing.  We have watched for 8 whole years the acts of this president that shows he has given preference to the Muslims more than to the 6 million Jews that are citizens of Israel.  He has not been even handed, running on CHANGE.  Little did Jews of the USA realize what this change was-certainly far more than swaying away from the Republican Bush administration.  Now, we are watching and weighing the details in trying to decide who will be a good partner for Israel.  Actions still speak loud and clear, more than political promises.
