October 7, 2023 and the Events Leading Up To That Horrid Inconceivable Attack

   Nadene Goldfoot

Sukkot lasts for seven days and culminates in Hoshana Rabbah (Great Supplication), the last day of the holiday. It is followed by the holidays of Shemini Atzeret (the Eighth Day of Assembly) and Simchat Torah (Rejoicing of the Torah).  In the Gregorian calendar the dates vary from late September to late October. In 2023,was celebrated starting in the evening of Friday, 29 September, 2023 until the evening of  Friday, 6 October, 2023.  And then....the young people had earlier heard of Music Festivals happening in Europe and decided to have a big one on the 7th of October, and it was a big hit.  People came from many places to attend.
Militant Palestinian, Mohammed Deif, is a Palestinian  and the head of the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamist organization Hamas. Israel claims to have assassinated him in an airstrike on Al-Mawasi on 13 July 2024; however, Hamas denied that he was killed in the airstrike. Mohammed al-Masri was born in 1965 in the Khan Yunis Refugee Camp in the Gaza Strip, to a family that fled or were expelled during the 1948 Palestine war. He reportedly left school temporarily to support his low-income family, later graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the Islamic University of Gaza in 1988, where he had established a theater group.

The horrid events of October 7th of last year is blamed by some Arabs on one of the many clashes we've had with the Palestinians.  Of course it's a personal event to a militant Palestinian.  What happened was The 2021 Gaza War, sometimes called the Unity Intifada, that  was a major outbreak of violence in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict that mainly commenced on 10 May 2021, and continued until a ceasefire came into effect on 21 May. It was marked by protests and police riot control, rocket attacks on Israel by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. The crisis was triggered on 6 May, when Palestinians in East Jerusalem began protesting over an anticipated decision of the Supreme Court of Israel on the eviction of six Palestinian families in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. Under international law, the area, effectively annexed by Israel in 1980, is a part of the Israeli-occupied West Bank; On 7 May, according to Israel's Channel 12Palestinians threw stones at Israeli police forces, who then stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound using tear gas, rubber bullets, and stun grenades. The crisis prompted protests around the world as well as official reactions from world leaders. Armed police in riot gear stormed the prayer hall of Al-Aqsa mosque before dawn Wednesday, aiming to dislodge "law-breaking youths and masked agitators" they said had barricaded themselves inside. A barrage of rocks and fireworks met the officers, police video showed, and more than 350 people were arrested.    Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups named the attacks Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, while in Israel they are referred to as Black Sabbath or the Simchat Torah Massacre, and internationally as the 7 October attacks. The attacks initiated the ongoing Israel–Hamas war.                                                               At 6:30 a.m. IST, air raid sirens were activated in southern and central Israel in response to Hamas missiles. Concurrently, said to still be alive,  Muhammad Deif, the leader of the Hamas' military wing, announced in a ten-minute recorded message published online the start of "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood", and that "the enemy will understand that the time of their rampaging without accountability has ended", urging Palestinians to attack Israeli settlements with whatever weapons they had. Approximately 1,200 Israeli civilians and soldiers were killed in the Hamas-led attack, while around 250 others were kidnapped.

Remembering the people kidnapped and taken away by Hamas
Time Magazine wrote:  Since then, of the 251 individuals who were taken into Gaza, 105 hostages have been freed via negotiations with Hamas. Another eight were rescued during daring but deadly operations. At least 35 hostages have also been confirmed dead since the war began, and approximately 100 remain in captivity one year later.  I believe the number today is down to about 40. Hope I'm wrong and more will remain alive.  Word is that they are to be killed as Israelis approach.

  • 07:00: The Supernova Music Festival near the Re'im kibbutz was attacked by Hamas militants, some of whom arrived via motorized paragliders.   Of the approximately 3,000 to 5,000 people at the festival, 364 were killed and 40 abducted.
  • 07:40: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Hamas militants had entered southern Israel and asked residents of Sderot and other cities to remain indoors.
  • 08:15: Sirens were activated in Jerusalem following a rocket barrage that landed in the forested hills on the city's western edge.
  • 08:23: Israel declared a state of alert for war, activating its reservists, in response to continued rocket attacks.

  • 10:47: The Israeli Air Force (IAF) began attacking Gaza.
  • 11:35: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made his first statement about the conflict via Twitter, declaring that Israel is at war.
  • 12:21: the IDF began operations to relieve cities in southern Israel as the number of rockets launched from Gaza increased to over 1,200.
  • 12:29: The United States made its first statement, through the National Security Council, which condemned the terrorist attack and reaffirmed US support for Israel.

  • 16:08: President Joe Biden spoke with Netanyahu and expressed his condolences and support, later declaring during a speech that US support for Israel was "...solid and unwavering".
  • 18:00: The Israeli security cabinet said on 8 October that a state of war had officially begun at this time.

Rockets from Gaza aiming at Israel
  • It was later discovered that the 7 October rocket attacks included a strike on a putative (reputed to be) nuclear missile site. The rocket hit the grounds of Sdot Micha military base, on the outskirts of East Jerusalem. On the morning of 7 October 2023, the day of the Hamas-led attack on Israel, a missile fired from the Gaza Strip is said to have hit the base compound, causing a wildfire of 40 hectares, but no military facilities were seriously damaged, as The New York Times claims to have found out based on satellite images. At the same time, it was emphasized that the nuclear warheads presumably stored there in bunkers could never detonate by an accident or external influence
  • Bruno Mars' concert in Tel Aviv scheduled for Oct 7 evening was cancelled due to the attack on Israel.  Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), known professionally as Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter. He is known for his stage performances, retro showmanship, and for singing in a wide range of musical styles, including popR&Bfunksoulreggaedisco, and rock.

Are News Broadcasts Making Light of October 7th's Attack?

 Nadene Goldfoot

Hundreds flee gunmen at a music festival near Kibbutz Re'im, October 7, 2023. (Used in accordance with Clause 27a of the Copyright Law)

ABC's given reason this morning of Israel's attack on Gaza is the 1,400 Israelis murdered and butchered on October 7, 2023, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.  It's the LAST STRAW THAT FINALLY BROKE THE CAMEL'S BACK.

"Chaos erupted at an all-night nature party near Kibbutz Re’im close to the Gaza Strip as the first rockets were fired by Hamas on Saturday morning. Eyewitnesses said the rockets were quickly followed by gunshots fired into the crowd even as hundreds of partygoers attempted to flee the site.  Hamas launched a major assault on Israel early Saturday with thousands of rockets fired and an unprecedented assault by gunmen on border communities, including the music festival. "

From the time they were finally accepted as a state, Israel has suffered from attacks, even before the blessed date of May 14, 1948.  The end of World War I showed that the Allies had a huge chance of winning the battle, and during this time, after praying and waiting for over 2,000 years, our Jewish leaders went to the leaders of the allies and pleaded their case to be given their Jewish Homeland back, being the Ottoman Empire, who had been holding it for the past 400 years, would lose it and it would be in their hands. They were the last Empire to hold it since the Jews lost Jerusalem to the Romans in 70 CE.   They won out after years, and it came to pass in 1948, after being whittled down to almost nothing;  but they took what speck of land they could get, for it was holy to them.

Jews were attacked by Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Sherif of Jerusalem, known as the Grand Mufti, who didn't want any Jews coming into the land, though groups had been arriving from eastern Europe starting in about 1881, who had had enough of the pogroms against them because they were Jews.  Anti-Semitism rang clear through Europe since the Roman Emperor Constantine in the 300s had proclaimed his competition against Judaism was to not allow Jews anyplace in the lands.

Then came Yasser Arafat (1929-2004) leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization PLO, born in Cairo, led attacks constantly against Jews in Israel, especially after 1967's war and the Arab's decision in Khartoum, Africa of no dealing with Israel, they'll take all the land in their famous NO NO NO decision. They have NEVER changed this decision in any dealing with Israel.  Instead, they adapted a world-wide program of terror activities aimed at Israeli, Zionist and Jewish targets.  Talks of a 2 state solution make decisions without expecting the Palestinians to accept peace and get this out of their charter.  They had incorporated Fatah, which later divided into Hamas as well, the real physical fighting terrorists.  Hamas has been shelling Israel every day since then hitting Sderot all the time.  Unfortunately, the Israelis have become acclimated into running into their shelters during these periods, and evidently so was the government, without shaking up the hornet's nest for the rest of the tiny country. They've also had their hands full of other rising terrorists against them, lately coming from Iran like Hezbollah in Lebanon.

People run across an empty field away from gunshots at a music festival near the Gaza-Israel border on October 7, 2023.

So then the attack on October 7, 2023 Kibbutz Re'im that killed 1,400 of the population made up of visitors from around the world celebrating LIFE through a music festival.   This wasn't a shoot-out between the sheriff and the outlaws.  It was against dancing people enjoying music, and they were attacked by air (Para-gliders), sea (boats) land (foot, motorcycle) who came and committed the worst of primitive man's methods of killing;  shooting of course, knifing, beheading both to adults and children, invading their homes and slaughtering,  burning bodies, even stuffing small children into an oven and turning it on, things too horrible to imagine, playing with the decapitated heads and filming all their atrocities. These are things so horrifying that no one should sluff it off in their minds as another pogrom against Jews, and by the way, that my grandmother suffered from in Poland before immigrating to the States.

As we have said during Passover (Dayenu), ENOUGH !  This is it.  I know from my searches in history's resources that Jews stand for Good and are against EVIL, and no one deserves to have arrived in the year of 2023 or by the Hebrew year's calendar of 5784, a time of going physically to the moon and beyond, a time of advanced technology mind-blowing only 100 years ago,  a time of near-perfection, to go through such agony.  Mankind is supposed to be at its most advanced state!  But not the Palestinians.  They have preferred to be at the most primitive state.

It was a time of the Abraham Accords, and 4 Muslim countries had signed on with Israel.  This shook up these Palestinian  haters whose only reason to live is to destroy Israel.  They even ignore the rules of their own Islam to achieve their goal, stooping lower than animals ever would in order to do so.

So don't think and have one picture in mind of the poor Palestinians turning on Jews-people you may not approve of-and getting even with an attack.  There's a lot more to the story.  And by the way-the poor Palestinians have been given every opportunity to have life as good as the Jews have had it-minus the rocket attacks, of course, and they haven't taken it.  They have preferred to attack.

Rabbi Goldberg's descendant Possible Kidnapped Victim From Music Festival

 Nadene Goldfoot

Rabbi Goldberg on left  and Rabbi Twersky on right, 2 of 4 rabbis slaughtered right in the synagogue during their morning prayers in Jerusalem 9 years ago.

November 18, 2014 was a day that the newspapers told of 4 rabbis praying in a synagogue in Jerusalem, evidently the Kehillat Yaakov Synagogue,  were slaughtered by terrorists.  One of them, the British born Abraham Shmuel Goldberg, was my newly-found cousin who had been helping me with my genealogy long-distance from Jerusalem to Oregon.

The party was supposed to be the kind of revelry that recently discharged soldiers tend to enjoy. Goldberg-Polin, who was born in Berkeley, moved to Israel with his parents at age 7 and completed his mandatory army service in April.

Eight days ago another Goldberg was kidnapped and possibly already killed, Hersh Goldberg-Polim whose mother and father live in Jerusalem.  He had been at the kibbutz Re'im in the Negev  taking part in the Music Festival that was purposely attacked by Hamas Palestinian terrorists and so many slaughtered.  Hersh's mother was just interviewed about this on Fox News.  As partygoers ran for their lives, they were cut down. Israeli officials said at least 260 people were killed in the massacre, and others were taken captive to be held as hostages.  Goldberg may be one of them.

I counted 65 Goldbergs that I share DNA with on Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), one DNA company alone and that covered 3 pages only of the list.  I know there were more Goldbergs on the next pages that were related.  Where they live is unknown to me at this stage of DNA matched listings.
