Iran's Uranium Pantry Was Full Once

 Nadene Goldfoot

Iraq’s Osirak nuclear power research station in the aftermath of an attack. (Image source: Wikimedia Commons.)                 Osirak nuclear reactor:   Israel’s 1981 bombing of Iraq nuclear reactor may have fuelled Saddam’s nuclear ambitions

In 1976, Iraq purchased an Osiris-class nuclear reactor from France. While Iraq and France maintained that the reactor, named Osirak by the French, was intended for peaceful scientific research, they said,  the Israelis viewed the reactor with suspicion, believing it was designed to produce nuclear weapons that could escalate the ongoing Arab–Israeli conflict. On 7 June 1981, a flight of Israeli Air Force F-16A fighter aircraft, with an escort of F-15As, bombed the Osirak reactor deep inside Iraq. Israel called the operation an act of self-defense, saying that the reactor had "less than a month to go" before "it might have become critical."The airstrike reportedly killed ten Iraqi soldiers and one French civilian. The attack took place about three weeks before the 1981 Israeli legislative elections for the Knesset.

     Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant:

As of early April 2026, Iran has accused the United States and Israel of launching joint strikes that hit near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, with reports indicating projectiles landed within the compound or in its immediate vicinity. While explosions occurred close to the facility, the main reactor was not reported damaged.

A major obstacle is Iran’s nuclear program, especially its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

Fordow nuclear plant: according to reports in June 2025, U.S. forces, under the command of President Donald Trump, executed Operation Midnight Hammer and struck the deeply buried Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant in Iran, along with facilities at Natanz and Isfahan. The attacks, occurring on June 22, 2025, involved B-2 stealth bombers dropping GBU-57A/B "bunker buster" bombs.

The UN nuclear watchdog says Iran has more than 440 kilograms, or 970 pounds, of uranium enriched up to 60% purity, a short technical step from weapons-grade levels. Iran wants that issue deferred, while Washington is seeking limits as part of any broader deal.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and nuclear experts, Iran is the only country currently producing highly enriched uranium (60% purity) without possessing nuclear weapons. While many countries enrich uranium for civilian nuclear power (typically 3–5%), only those with nuclear weapons typically produce 90% weapons-grade material.

Nine countries currently possess nuclear weapons: Russia, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, India, Israel, and North Korea. As of early 2026, Russia and the U.S. hold nearly 90% of the estimated 12,100+ global warheads.

In contrast, The United States holds the world's 4th largest uranium resources, with approximately 167 million pounds of commercial inventory (\(U_{3}O_{8}e\)) as of the end of 2024. While domestic reserves are significant (an estimated 539 million pounds at \(\$50\)/lb), the U.S. imports roughly 99% of the uranium used in its nuclear power plants, primarily from Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

Australia holds the world's largest known uranium reserves, containing roughly 28% to 30% of the global total. However, Kazakhstan is the world’s largest producer, mining over 40% of the global supply annually.

Canada holds one of the world's largest, highest-grade uranium resources, with approximately 588,500 to 694,000 tonnes of known uranium (tU), representing about 10% of global reserves. Primarily located in the Athabasca Basin of Northern Saskatchewan, these deposits support over 50 years of continued production, maintaining Canada as the world’s second-largest producer and exporter.   Is this why Trump wanted to buy Canada?

Israel is widely believed to possess a nuclear arsenal of approximately 90 plutonium-based warheads, with enough fissile material to produce up to 200 weapons. The country follows a policy of nuclear ambiguity, neither confirming nor denying its capabilities, though it is widely understood to have developed a "nuclear triad" of air, land, and sea delivery systems.;  Remember!!!

Operation Opera. Operation Opera (Hebrew: מִבְצָע אוֹפֵּרָה ), also known as Operation Babylon, was a surprise airstrike conducted by the Israeli Air Force  on 7 June 1981, which destroyed an unfinished Iraqi nuclear reactor located 17 kilometres (11 miles) southeast of Baghdad, Iraq.

Update:

Beyond the 1981 bombing of Iraq's Osirak reactor (Operation Opera), Israel destroyed a suspected nuclear reactor in Syria in 2007, known as Operation Orchard. The targeted facility in Al-Kibar was destroyed, which Israel officially acknowledged in 2018.

The New Reality In The Middle East After USA's Operation Midnight Hammer

 Nadene Goldfoot

What our ancient prophets foresaw could have been much worse if not halted by Israel and yesterday by the USA's 125 air force jets that bombed Iran's nuclear facilities.  Trump reported that they obliterated Iran's nuclear sites, and now Tehran warns of consequences. After all, they dropped 14 bunker buster bombs on Fordow.

President Donald J. Trump’s bold, decisive action against Iran — the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism — and its key nuclear facilities was met with bipartisan praise from lawmakers across Capitol Hill. In a televised address Saturday night, the president described the strikes as a "spectacular military success" and said "Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated." He warned of "far greater" attacks if Iran does not "make peace."

"There is not another military in the World that could have done this," Mr. Trump said in a social media post. "NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!  Thank you for your attention to this matter."

The End of Times has been evaded.  What else could have happened had Iran been able to put a nuclear nose on an intercontinental Iranian  missile  that was headed for Israel!   Israel would have been one burnt-out humongous hole in the ground.  People would have been burnt to cinders.  The USA would have been the next target, at a table thinking of "Peace in our Times."  "The phrase "peace for our time" was famously spoken by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain upon his return from Munich in 1938. He used it to describe the Munich Agreement, which aimed to appease Adolf Hitler by allowing Germany to annex the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia". You see, appeasing a bully like Hitler didn't work.  They just take more advantage of you, seeing you as weak.  All this time, the stalling by Iran was an act of allowing the stall to take placeappeasing Iran.

The USA's goal was not  declaring WAR with Iran by bombing the nuclear Iranian sites, but acted to prevent a horrid END of Times War.  They destroyed the uranium site that can make such atomic weapons of Iran who had threatened the life of Israel for years, as their Islamic religion expects them to do if ready to go to war with another.  The horror of it all is that Israel had not threatened Iran;  in fact had been in excellent relations with their former Shah, but it has been the Ayatollahs who have been threatened by Israel by their religion;  not what they have done.

US Gen Dan Caine, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, said Operation Midnight Hammer involved 125 US military aircraft including seven B-2 stealth bombers. Three nuclear facilities were targeted - Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan, the US said.

Iran has been the country wanting to wipe out Israel and so has armed the taught other terrorists to attack Israel.  It's acted like an octopus with 8 arms, arms belonging to Yemen's Houthis, Lebanon's Hezbollah, and Gaza's Palestinians. Iran has been  the #1state sponsor of terror in the world.

Israel has been attacked on 7 fronts at a time!  This is a lot for the smallest country in the Middle East sandwiched between very large countries.

Iran promised to retaliate after the USA bombing ended and so they did.  They hit a large neighborhood in Tel Aviv, causing 21 injuries.  The  country has bomb shelters for the citizens, and the population was there.  At one point, only the bomb shelter was left untouched  reported ILTV.  This united attack of Israel and the USA on Iran is changing history for the best.

Professor Meir Litvak at Tel Aviv U.
Col. Eisin of IDF           CIA Norman Roule (non-resident expert)

How are Israelis taking the American operation?  Miri Eisin-retired Colonel in IDF, Norman Roule-served for 34 years in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), managing numerous programs relating to the Middle East in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations. and Meir Litvak- the Department of Middle Eastern History and a senior research associate at the Alliance Center for Iranian Studies at Tel Aviv  voiced their opinions on ILTV.  One remarked that the regime, which must be changed by the Iranian people, have been under a lot of fear since it has been so brutal.  It's too early to say what will continue and what the people will do now.  PM Netanyahu praised Trump for the operation.

At lectern is Bernie Sanders, never a backer of Israel.  These men are at odds over a possible war with Iran.

Many Democrats have soured against Trump who took the initiative to bomb the sites in Iran.  “Supporting Netanyahu’s war against Iran would be a catastrophic mistake,” Sanders said about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.Sanders reintroduced legislation prohibiting the use of federal money for force against Iran, insisted that U.S. military intervention would be unwise and illegal and accused Israel of striking unprovoked. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York signed on to a similar bill from Sanders in 2020, but so far was holding off this time.  He's ready to impeach Trump.

Update: 6/24/25 The ceasefire, brokered by the United States and mediated by Qatar, was sealed following a phone call between Netanyahu and President Donald Trump. The agreement brings an end to a 12-day war that saw Israel neutralize a significant portion of Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure in a series of bold and precise airstrikes.

Trump later announced the ceasefire had taken effect via a message on

Truth Social, writing in all caps: “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT.

PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” However, Israeli officials noted that the

timing and manner of the announcement diverged from pre-arranged diplomatic protocol.

Despite the declaration, Iran launched six separate missile attacks on

Israel in the hour leading up to the ceasefire, killing four Israelis and

injuring more than 20. Israel’s security cabinet had convened

Monday night, and Netanyahu instructed ministers to refrain

from public statements, reinforcing the seriousness of the

 situation as the truce approached.

The Beat Goes On, Like Israel's Air Campaign Against Iran

 Nadene Goldfoot

Israel continues it's air campaign against Iran. Overnight, over 50 fighter jets struck military, missile production and nuclear related targets in Tehran. The International Atomic Energy Agency tweeted,

Back in 1966-1970, Sonny and Cher had the song that was popular.  Ironically, the players on the song were The Wrecking Crew.

"At the Tehran site, one building was hit where advanced centrifuge rotors were manufactured and tested.

At Karaj, two buildings were destroyed where different centrifuge components were manufactured."

Iran fired 30 ballistic missiles at Israel last night, all of which were either intercepted or fell in open areas causing no casualties or damage. Israel is reportedly running low on defensive Arrow interceptors.

Iran had around 2,000 ballistic missiles capable of reaching Israel before the start of the conflict. It has fired 400 at Israel.

The IDF has destroyed a third of Iran's missiles and launchers, and continues to destroy more regularly. That explains why the Iranian attacks are getting smaller and less effective.

An Israeli drone was shot down operating over Iran last night.

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem is closed until Friday as Iran and Israel trade strikes. Iran's Ambassador to the UN Ali Bahreini warned that his country would respond firmly if the U.S. directly entered the conflict.

Yesterday, President Trump posted that the U.S knew the location of Iran's Supreme Leader but was choosing not to kill him.

I opened up "Fox News" that appeared on my YouTube and was very pleased.  It was the only straight-forward reporting on the continuing war between Israel and Iran that I have found this morning.    Iran refused Trump's peace plan.

Trump then posted, “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”

President Donald Trump says he has given Iran the "ultimate ultimatum" regarding his demand for an unconditional surrender.

Trump made the comments to reporters during Wednesday press conference during which he also said the U.S. may or may not join Israel in striking Iran in the coming days.

"Have you given Iran an ultimatum?" a reporter asked.

"You could say so, the ultimate ultimatum," Trump responded.

Earlier, Trump had emphasized that the U.S. would never allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. He also mocked Iran as "defenseless," and said he has not made up his mind about striking Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's regime.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali

Khamenei said that Iran would never

surrender.

"The GBU-57A/B MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) is a 30,000-pound (13,600 kg) precision-guided "bunker buster" bomb developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). The designation GBU, short for Guided Bomb Unit, reflects its use of precision guidance systems."  It's one of a kind.

The U.S. is the only force with the "bunker busting" bombs capable of destroying the underground Iranian nuclear facility at Fordow.

U.S. B-2 Stealth bombers are stationed at Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean, 3,300 miles and within striking distance from Iran.

But there are reportedly other ways that Israel can destroy the Fordow facility, even without U.S. help. [If I had to bet, I'd put my money on Trump taking this once in a lifetime opportunity to destroy Iran's nuclear ambitions for good.]  Israel feels they will have the facility destroyed without bunker bombs in one or two weeks from now.

Fordow  is an Iranian underground uranium enrichment facility located 30 kilometres (20 mi) from the Iranian city of Qom, at a former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base.  Existence of the then-unfinished enrichment plant was disclosed to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by Iran on 21 September 2009, but only after the site became known to Western intelligence services. Western officials strongly condemned Iran for not disclosing the site earlier; U.S. president Barack Obama said that Fordow had been under U.S. surveillance.  That got them off the hook of lying.   Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant in Iran, was known of in 2004.

Mossad has been working in Iran, even having built drones within the enemy country.

This war with Iran is far from over and the situation is constantly changing and evolving,

Let us all pray that God blesses Israel with the power and capabilities to destroy evil and bring a new chapter of peace to the Middle East and the entire world. And may He protect Israel and the world, and bless us with everlasting peace.

Iran's Four (4) Main Sites of Nuclear Reactors To Worry About

 Nadene Goldfoot

1. Arak:The Arak area has several industrial complexes, some with ties to the nuclear program, in particular the IR-40 reactor under construction and a heavy water production plant, both near Arak. In the late 1990s, one of these complexes may have manufactured a high-explosive test chamber transferred to Parchin, which the IAEA has asked to visit. The Arak area is also thought to hold factories capable of producing high-strength aluminum for IR-1 rotors.

Arak was one of the two sites exposed by a spokesman for the People's Mujahedin of Iran in 2002. In August 2006, Iran announced the inauguration of the Arak plant for the production of heavy water. Under the terms of Iran's safeguards agreement, Iran was under no obligation to report the existence of the site while it was still under construction since it was not within the 180-day time limit specified by the safeguards agreement. This reactor is intended to replace the life-expired 1967 Tehran Nuclear Research Center research reactor, mainly involved in the production of radioisotopes for medical and agricultural purposes (they say).

2. Fordow:  Fordow, near the city of Qom, is the site of an underground uranium enrichment facility at a former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base. Existence of the then-unfinished Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant (FFEP) was disclosed to the IAEA by Iran on 21 September 2009, but only after the site became known to Western intelligence services. Western officials strongly condemned Iran for not disclosing the site earlier; U.S. President Barack Obama said that Fordow had been under U.S. surveillance. In its initial declaration, Iran stated that the purpose of the facility was the production of UF6 enriched up to 5% U-235, and that the facility was being built to contain 16 cascades, with a total of approximately 3000 centrifuges. Iran argues that this disclosure was consistent with its legal obligations under its Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA, which Iran claims requires Iran to declare new facilities 180 days before they receive nuclear material. However, the IAEA stated that Iran was bound by its agreement in 2003 to declare the facility as soon as Iran decided to construct it. Later, in September 2011, Iran said it would move its production of 20% LEU to Fordow from Natanz, and enrichment started in December 2011. The Fordow plant was constructed at a depth of 80–90 m under the rocks. According to the Institute for Science and International Security, possible coordinates of the facility's location are: 34.88459°N 50.99596°E.

Explosion at Isfahan nuclear site An explosion reportedly occurred on Monday, November 28, 2011 somewhere in or near the city of Esfahan in Iran. The Times reported that the blast occurred at the Esfahan nuclear site and that it has seen satellite imagery that showed “billowing smoke and destruction.” The Times also cites “Israeli intelligence officials” as claiming that the blast was “no accident.” ISIS has acquired DigitalGlobe satellite imagery of the Esfahan nuclear site taken on December 3, 2011 and December 5, 2011. There does not appear to be any visible evidence of an explosion, such as building damage or debris, on the grounds of the known nuclear facilities or at the tunnel facility directly north of the Uranium Conversion Facility and Zirconium Production Plant at the Esfahan site .

3. Isfahan: The Nuclear Technology Center of Isfahan is a nuclear research facility that currently operates four small nuclear research reactors, all supplied by China. It is run by the AEOI.

The Uranium Conversion Facility at Isfahan converts yellowcake into uranium hexafluoride. As of late October 2004, the site is 70% operational with 21 of 24 workshops completed. There is also a Zirconium Production Plant (ZPP) located nearby that produces the necessary ingredients and alloys for nuclear reactors.

As of 2022 another new nuclear construction development was built in suburban Isfahan.  This city played an important role in Jewish history, the foundation of which was Jews exiled by Nebuchadnezzar.  Jews were settled there by the Persian Jewish Queen, Shushan-Dukht.  It was also the center of the pseudo-Messsiah, Abu Issa al-Isfahani in 700.  It's largest quarter was known as Yahudiyyah in the 10th century.  By the 12th century, 15,000 Jews lived there.  Then, in the 17th century, Jews were persecuted and a number forcibly converted to Islam.  3,000 Jews were living there at the time of the 1979 Islamic Revolution but many have since left.

4. Natanz:  Natanz is a hardened Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP) covering 100,000 square meters that is built 8 meters underground and protected by a concrete wall 2.5 meters thick, itself protected by another concrete wall. It is located near Natanz, the capital city of Natanz County, Isfahan Province, Iran. In 2004, the roof was hardened with reinforced concrete and covered with 22 meters of earth. The complex consists of two 25,000 square meter halls and a number of administrative buildings. This once secret site was one of the two exposed by Alireza Jafarzadeh in August, 2002. IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei visited the site on 21 February 2003 and reported that 160 centrifuges were complete and ready for operation, with 1,000 more under construction at the site. In accordance with Code 3.1 of the Subsidiary Arrangements to Iran's safeguards agreement that were in force up to that time, Iran was not obligated to declare the Natanz enrichment facility until six months before nuclear material was introduced into the facility. According to the IAEA, in 2009 there were approximately 7,000 centrifuges installed at Natanz, of which 5,000 were producing low enriched uranium.

In July 2020, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran released photos of a building, presumed to be a centrifuge assembly facility, after a recent explosion. An unnamed Middle Eastern intelligence official later claimed that damage to the facility was caused by an explosive device.

On 28 October 2020, the Center for Nonproliferation Studies released satellite images acknowledging that Iran had begun the construction of an underground plant near its nuclear facility at Natanz. In March 2021, Iran restarted enriching uranium at the Natanz facility with a third set of advanced nuclear centrifuges in a series of violations of the 2015 nuclear accord. On 10 April, Iran began injecting uranium hexaflouride gas into advanced IR-6 and IR- 5 centrifuges at Natanz, but on the next day, an accident occurred in the electricity distribution network. On 11 April, IRNA reported that the incident was due to a power failure and that there were no injuries nor any escape of radioactive material. Further details eventually emerged that it was actually Israel that orchestrated the attack. On 17 April, Iranian state television named 43-year-old Reza Karimi from Kashan as a suspect for the blackout, stating that he had fled the country before the sabotage happened. In July 2021, Iran reportedly limited inspectors' access to the plant.

Iran has had a nuclear program since the country restarted it in the 1980s, has been under economic sanctions for it since the 1990s, faced the threat of war over it in the 2000s, and now has come through 20 grueling months of negotiations just to keep part of the program in place.

On its face, Iran's nuclear program makes very little strategic sense. Though Iran insists the program is only for peaceful purposes, it's far beyond what's necessary to generate nuclear power. And it's never made sense as an energy investment; other types of energy are more efficient for Iran, and its grid desperately needs upgrading.

"No sound strategic energy planning would prioritize nuclear energy in a country like Iran," Iran experts Ali Vaez and Karim Sadjadpour wrote in a Carnegie Endowment report.

Dr. Jeffrey Lewis is the director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at CNS. Before coming to CNS, he was the director of the Nuclear Strategy and Nonproliferation Initiative at the New America Foundation. Prior to that, he was executive director of the Managing the Atom Project at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, executive director of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs, a visiting fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and a desk officer in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy.

This is why arms control experts believe that, as Monterey's Jeffrey Lewis put it, the program "could be used to make a bomb, and we think was originally intended to make a bomb." That said, there is an important distinction between developing nuclear weapons capability versus building an actual bomb (more on that later).

Iran's Muslims are of the Shi'a branch of Islam, differing from the main line of Sunni as much as Catholicism differs from Protestants. Their world in Iran is dictated by Ayatollahs, religious leaders politically motivated.

Arabs are a minority in Israel's only Jewish state in the world, making up 20% of the population.  That population was 126,000 in 1948, by 1972 numbered 458,500.  They were 95% illiterate.  By 1972 5%.  School population was 10,000 in 1948; 1972 was 117,000.  University students in 1948 was 15; in 1972 was 1,000.  Teachers in 1948 was 286, 1972 was 5,000.  Births in hospitals in 1948 was 4%, in 1972 was 93%.  Using electricity in 1948 was 0;  by 1972 was 93%.  Life expectation in 1948 was 52;  by 1972 was 70.  They made life improvements by being under Israeli law.

Iran now has Hezbollah terrorists in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon working for them so in effect, Iran can be closer to hit Israel.    "It has rapidly expanded its realm of operations. It has sent legions of fighters to Syria. It has sent trainers to Iraq. It has backed rebels in Yemen. And it has helped organize a battalion of militants from Afghanistan that can fight almost anywhere. "

Iran's Khamenei says that "Israel is not a country but a terrorist base".

He says, "fight against Israel is a public duty. "

Ahmadinejad, under Ayatolah Khomeini, said that "Israel will be eliminated."

Eradicated off the face of the Earth.  As you recall, it was about in 2005 when he [Mahmoud Ahmadinejad] said before that Israel -- he would use a nuclear weapon to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth.”

— Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), September 19, 2011

“Israel, a small country of less than eight million people, looks out at a world where leaders of much larger nations threaten to wipe it off of the map.”

— President Obama, speech to the U.N. General Assembly, September 21, 2011

One thing Israel has learned about Muslims is that they warn you first before they strike.  You can depend on 2 other incidents where Syria and Iraq had built nuclear reactors and Israel in defense destroyed them.  Israel cannot even depend on friends of the moment.  They must depend on their  own capability to defend themselves.  Friends can always be swayed not to back you up.  Israel takes these threats seriously.  Very seriously.

The problem Israel will have is where to hit first.  There are even more than four.
