The Bibas family will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 2/25/25-Israel time. The body of Shiri Bibas was positively identified over the weekend. Forensic doctors confirmed that Shiri and her 2 little boys were brutally murdered by the terrorists and not killed in an Israeli airstrike, as claimed by Hamas. While the funeral will be private, the procession route will be made public to allow people to pay their last respects.
Coffins apparently containing the bodies of slain Israeli hostages Shiri Bibas, her two children Ariel and Kfir, and Oded Lifshitz, are displayed on a stage with a propaganda message before being handed over to the Red Cross by Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, Feb. 20, 2025. (AP Photo/Abdel Kareem Hana)Israel has delayed the release of 602 Palestinian terrorists because of Hamas violations of the hostage release deal, but has proposed to release the terrorists in exchange for the bodies of 4 hostages and guarantees that Hamas will no longer stage public ceremonies when releasing hostages. Hamas is insisting that Israel release the terrorists before it hands over the four bodies.
Update 2/26/25 (9:49am) Israel and Hamas have come to an agreement, in which Hamas will hand over the coffins of four dead hostages to Egypt in the next 24 hours without a ceremony, and Egypt will hand over the coffins to the Red Cross to bring them to Israel. At the same time as the dead hostages are transferred, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian terrorists. Israel had delayed the release of the terrorists because Hamas violated the original agreement by not initially returning the body of Shiri Bibas and by holding public ceremonies at the release of living and dead hostages.
White House envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff is expected to visit the region on Wednesday, with planned stops in Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. When asked whether Prime Minister Netanyahu wants to continue the deal or resume fighting in Gaza, he said: "I believe the prime minister wants to see hostages released — that’s certain. He also wants to protect Israeli citizens. He has a red line — Hamas cannot govern Gaza when this war ends. We’re trying to square the circle."White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes told Ynet that, “given Hamas’ barbaric treatment of the hostages, including the hideous parade of the Bibas children’s coffins through the streets of Gaza, Israel’s decision to delay the release of prisoners is an appropriate response. The president is prepared to support Israel in whatever course of action it chooses regarding Hamas."
Prime Minister Netanyahu said that IDF troops would remain stationed in key areas of Syria and Lebanon, and demanded the full demilitarization of southern Syria. He said, “In Syria, IDF forces will remain in the Mount Hermon area and the buffer zone for an indefinite period to protect our communities and counter any threats. We will not allow forces from HTS or the New Syrian Army to enter areas south of Damascus.”
