Worry For Tousi Pertaining To Matters in France and England: Does The King Know?

 Nadene Goldfoot

     Marriage recently

Tousi, my favorite "Go to" in matters happening with the underlings of Iran who have been rebelling, is an Iranian living in England.  He's been quite successful and now is in trouble for it.  You see, there have been no sponsored programming coming from Iran itself, or people connected to programming other than Tousi, I believe.  They have had internet cut off from them, too.  Tousi has people connected to him in other places.

Now I discover from Tousi that Calais, France has put Tousi a person or persons in jail who was working with him.  Something is going on here.  Tousi is skating on thin ice in England as it is.  The same is happening in Spain.  Europe is closing down on freedom of speech.  I wonder if the Crown Prince, Reza Pahlavi, in exile in the USA knows anything about it or even  King Charles, now in the USA on a visit celebrating our 250th birthday.

Israel's Birthday of Yom Ha'atzmaut

 Nadene Goldfoot

Seventy-Five years ago, our leaders had the bravery to announce the birth of their tiny nation on May 14, 1948.  This is the Jewish 4th of July for Israel...Independence Day! Yom Ha'atzmaut Finally!!!Since the year 70 CE.

'זכר ימות עולם בינו שנות דור ודור... - דברים פרק ל"ב פסוק ז

Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations... (Deuteronomy 32:7)

The announcement on May 14, 1948

Starting once again with Israel

The birthplace of the Jewish people is the Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael). There, a significant part of the nation's long history was enacted, of which the first thousand years are recorded in the Bible; there, its cultural, religious, and national identity was formed; and there, its physical presence has been maintained through the centuries, even after the majority was forced into exile. During the many years of dispersion, the Jewish people never severed nor forgot its bond with the Land. With the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, Jewish independence, lost 2,000 years earlier, was renewed.

Archeology in Israel  involves the systematic investigation of all the remains of the country's past - from prehistory to the end of Ottoman rule. The profusion of material remains is evidence of the many cultures that have left their imprint on the Land.

Above all archeological research clearly reveals the historical link between the Jewish people, the Bible and the Land of Israel, uncovering the remains of the cultural heritage of the Jewish people in its homeland. These visible remains, buried in the soil, constitute the physical link between the past, the present and the future of the Jewish people in its country.

This unbroken chain of history can be observed at sites all over the country. Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, has been the focus of extensive archeological activity and remains of 5,000 years of history have been revealed.

Back When Israel Was Seventeen: Commemorating Israel's Birthday May 14, 1948

Nadene Goldfoot
On 21 January, the Shalom Meir Tower officially opens, becoming the tallest building in the Middle East (standing at 142 m)
Note:  Israel names a tower commemorating PEACE.
It's enemies name things for people who have killed Israelis.
I was looking through an old scrapbook and came across an old newspaper on slick white paper of Portland's Jewish Review, May 1965 issue. It was an essay on Israel's 17th birthday.  I would make aliyah in 1980.  In 1965 I was concerned with my teaching and 2 children of of 11 and 12..  How many of us were aware of what was happening in Israel then?

                                                          ISRAEL IS SEVENTEEN

Israel is currently celebrating her seventeenth birthday.  That is still very young, though not as young as she used to be.  Age however is not all bad.  There is a ripening and momentum that age brings, a maturing of experience and growth that offsets the passing of dewy freshness.

Israel came forth at a time of supreme tragedy in the history of the Jew.

Her childhood was a glorious but hard one.  Her people were sorrow-laden refugees;  her land eroded and bleak, her neighbors hostile and threatening.

The land had no lumber, so it imported timber from Africa and developed an extensive industry exporting plywood.

She had no diamond mines, but she built one of the world's great centers of diamond polishing and the exporting of polished diamonds continues as a main industry.

Her neighbors proclaimed a boycott and Israel countered by the building of a merchant marine which grew from a tonnage of 22,000 tons, in the first year of the boycott to the present capacity of over a million tons.

She had no water, so she built the huge national water carrier to irrigate the Negev and her scientists became pioneers in the desalination of sea water and it became known to such an extent, that President Johnson proposed a partnership of America and Israel in joint experiments in exploring the aid of nuclear energy in desalination.

The role of America in the development of Israel has been very important.  It was after all only natural.  America too was built by refugees.

Rabbi Arik Ascherman and students planting olive trees
The population in 1965 of Israel was now 2.563 million.
In 2017 at age 69 it has reached 6 million Jews.  The total population

today is 8,323,248 including Palestinians and Christians and others.
Israel's annual rate of growth is in excess of 11 per cent a year, higher than that of most nations.  Her neighbors continue to proclaim their hostility, but Israel, not minimizing the danger and preparing for any eventualities, is going ahead and the new port city of Ashdod, giving Israel its largest harbor, will be completed this year.

The great problem of the next half decade is the industrial development of the Negev.

It was long ago prophesied that the desert would blossom like the rose, and the prophecy is now in the process of fulfillment.

Who was running the country in 1965?

What were the Palestinians doing in 1965?

the launch of Fatah on Jan. 1, 1965, when it carried out its first terror attack against Israel, attempting to bomb ...Text: "The Al-Aqsa [Martyrs'] Brigades (Fatah's military wing) claim responsibility for the killing of an Israeli soldier during clashes in Hebron."
The most prominent Palestinian terror attacks committed against Israelis during 1965 include:
  • 1 January – Fatah's first major guerrilla attack takes place when Fatah members infiltrated into Israel and attempt to sabotage the National Water Carrier. The squad manages to put an explosive device next to the Water Carrier, but it fails to explode and is later discovered by an Israeli Border Police patrol.
  • 1 June – Armed Palestinian armed militants attack a house in Kibbutz Yiftah.
  • 29 September – A militant was killed while attempting to attack Moshav Amatzia.
  • 7 November – A Fatah cell that infiltrated from Jordan blew up a house in Moshav Givat Yeshayahu, south of Beit Shemesh. The house was destroyed, but the inhabitants were unhurt.

What events were happening in Israel in 1965?

Like they say, "You've come a long way, baby."

Israel: Senior Citizen of the World: Yom ha-Azma'ut

Nadene Goldfoot

Happy Birthday, Israel.  You are now 65 years old.  You've made it to the ripe old age of being classified as a senior citizen.

Sixty-Five years ago according to the Jewish calendar when the British,  who had held the mandate, pulled out of Palestine, you were able to announce to the world:

"It is...the self-evident right of the Jewish people to be a nation, as all other nations, in its own Sovereign State.  Accordingly, we, the members of the National Council, representing the Jewish people in Palestine and the Zionist movement of the world, meet together in solemn assembly today...by virtue of the natural and historic right of the Jewish people and of the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, "Hereby proclaim the establishment of the Jewish state in Palestine, to be called the State of Israel...."

An audience in attendance to this historic and brave moment rose and applauded.  then, when the proclamation had been adopted by acclamation, Ben-Gurion put his signature to the scroll.  Other council members followed, stepping to the front of the dais to sign while Sharrett held the parchment for each of them.

"Suddenly, the melancholy strains of "Hatikvah," the Jewish national anthem, wafted over the audience" by the Jewish Philharmonic Orchestra which was playing above from an upper story of the building.  "Ben-Gurion declared the meeting ended and Israel REBORN."

The first Israeli Prime Minister made his way through well- wishers and walked over to a British reporter saying, "You see, we did it!"

It was May 14, 1948 and moments later a buzzer on Clark Clifford's desk at the White House got his attention and he went to the President's office.  Truman greeted him with a "broad smile."  Truman was able to tell Clifford that General Marshall called and he's agreed to de facto recognition but wanted to wait for a few days to consult with the British and the French. (They had been the ones holding the mandates.)  Clifford answered, "Mr. President, if we're going to recognize the country it's best to do it immediately."  Truman had received a letter from Chaim Weizmann pleading for immediate recognition.  "All right, Truman answered.  "Get a formal request for recognition immediately."

It was almost 10:00 am.  Only 8 hours until the Jewish State would be born, since Palestine time was 6 hours ahead of Washington time.  He called Eliahu Elath at the Jewish Agency headquarters and asked, "Are you people still determined to proclaim your independence today?
"I haven't the slightest doubt," was Elath's reply.

And it happened.  The British left and Israel was reborn.  May 14, 1948.

                                                           Hatikvah (The Hope)
In the Jewish heart..a Jewish spirit still sings,...and the eyes look East...Toward Zion
Our hope is not lost...Our hope of 2,000 years....To be a free nation in our land
In the land of Zion and Jerusalem.
