Controlling Gaza With Gideon's Chariots II

 Nadene Goldfoot

                                                     Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin

The IDF said that is has already begun operations in Gaza City and currently controls 40% of the city. IDF spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin told reporters that Israeli forces have been operating for weeks in the Zeitoun and Sheikh Radwan neighborhoods of Gaza City as part of Operation Gideon's Chariots II, and said that the operation will expand in the coming days.

                           August 26, 2025

from BBC:  Israeli strikes and demolitions have destroyed dozens of buildings in areas of Gaza City, satellite images show, as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its offensive has established control over 40% of the city.  The new images reviewed by BBC Verify show that intensive bombardments and controlled explosions have levelled several neighbourhoods over the past four weeks.  Rows of tents - which have sprung up over the city to shelter Palestinians displaced by the Israeli military campaign - have also disappeared over the past month, the images show. (Did they miss these?)   Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Israel's intention to seize all of the strip and launch an incursion into Gaza City after indirect talks with Hamas on a ceasefire and hostage release deal broke down in July.

Eyal Zamir, age 59
Eyal Zamir (Hebrewאייל זמיר; born 26 January 1966) is the current Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, having taken office on 5 March 2025. Zamir was born and raised in Eilat. His grandparents were immigrants from Yemen and Syria. He is a graduate of the 17th class of The Military Academy for Command in Tel Aviv.  Zamir is a graduate of the Inter-Service Command and Staff College, and the National Security College. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Tel-Aviv University, a Master's degree in national security from the University of Haifa, and is an alumnus of the General Management Program for Senior Executives (GMP) of The Wharton School.

Gideon Sa'ar;, age 59

Gideon Moshe Sa'ar (Hebrewגדעון משה סער; born 9 December 1966) is an Israeli politician currently serving as Israel's Foreign Minister.During the campaign, Netanyahu's campaign slammed Sa'ar on Twitter saying he "has aligned with the Left and the media in order to remove the prime minister from the leadership of the state". At a conference the week before, Sa'ar had spoken against the "two state illusion" and criticized Netanyahu for offering territorial concessions to Palestinian Arabs despite their typical disinterest in peace talks, saying, "Around the world, the words ”'two-state solution'” remain a kind of certificate of acceptance. I have to tell you this is not a helpful position." As widely expected, Netanyahu won handily with 72.5% to Sa'ar's 27.5%.
David Barnea, age 60
David "DadiBarnea (Hebrewדוד (דדי) ברנע; born 29 March 1965) is an Israeli intelligence chief who serves as the current Director of the Mossad, having taken over from Yossi Cohen in June 2021.  Barnea was born in Ashkelon, Israel and grew up in Rishon Lezion. His father, Joseph Brunner (Barnea), fled with his family from Nazi Germany and immigrated to Israel at the age of three. Barnea is married and is a father of four. He has a Haredi brother.

After the beginning of Gaza war, Barnea pushed for a deal with Hamas to secure the release of Israeli hostages. On 9 November 2023, Barnea met with CIA Director William J. Burns and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Doha. The possibilities of a ceasefire and the release of hostages were discussed. In addition to CIA chief Burns, Barnea was also included in the talks between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the release of hostages. Barnea prevailed against Netanyahu, who is said to have long preferred a purely military solution.

In July 2025, Barnea asked the US for assistance in persuading countries in Asia and Africa to accept displaced Palestinians from Gaza.

IDF Chief of Staff Zamir, Foreign Minister Sa'ar, Mossad Director David Barnea and other ministers have reportedly urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to pursue a temporary ceasefire with Hamas rather than expand the war with a full scale assault on Gaza C

             Guy Gilboa Dalal

Hamas today released a video showing hostages Alon Ohel and Guy Gilboa Dalal talking in a vehicle in Gaza City on August 28. Only a brief 28 second clip of the video has been released by the families.

Unusually, Gilboa-Dalal is seen in part of the footage above ground, inside a car. In the video, he refers to being held captive for 22 months, which could indicate that the footage was filmed recently.  The family of the second hostage has asked for him not to be identified, according to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. The families have not given consent for the video itself to be published.  (Courtesy)

Hamas releases a video showing the hostage Guy Gilboa-Dalal together with   another hostage.

Gilboa-Dalal was last seen in a video in February, during a ceasefire, when Hamas forced him and another captive, Evyatar David, to watch the release of other hostages.  This video is a painful testament to the starvation and abuse that Evyatar and the other hostages are enduring in captivity.  Evyatar’s sister, Ya’ala David, shared a post on social media responding to the distressing footage of her brother, saying that this is more than just a personal message:  “Hamas is starving the hostages and the residents of Gaza, denying them the humanitarian aid that Israel and the world are sending – all for the sake of media and propaganda.”

.Hamas releases videos as part of its psychological warfare campaign, to persuade Israelis to demand that the government end the war at all costs, to save the hostages,  and possibly trigger a new Israeli military operation in Lebanon.

Muslim religious leader-from Egypt to Qatar

Sadly, what many   Israelis do not realize is how deeply Qatar is with Hamas.  They seem to forget the connection the family had with Qaradawi, head propaganda radio and TV evangelist for hatred against Israel and Jews.  Holding meetings with anyone of the family in Qatar only lets Hamas know the plan. It's the younger generation of Israelis who don't seem to be aware. I am adding this information because I did so much reading about him years ago and now shudder when I see meetings taking place there.  He's bad news, and some journalists are just now becoming aware.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Jews are gathering nightly to recite Selichot, prayers for forgiveness, during the weeks leading up to Rosh Hashana.

Ending The War A Must In Gaza and Why

 Nadene Goldfoot

According to The Washington Post, Israel has deployed five divisions into the Gaza Strip This means there are at least 50,000 IDF soldiers in there. I'm stumped at choosingGideon, who only had 300 soldiers to work with-his choice, too. 300 soldiers, in the U.S. Army and Israeli IDF, would typically make up a battalion. A battalion is a sub-unit of a regiment, generally consisting of 300 to 1,000 soldiers. While a division can consist of 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers, a battalion is a smaller, more manageable unit.

Yes, according to The Washington Post, Israel has deployed five divisions into the Gaza Strip as part of a renewed ground offensive.

Here's a summary of the situation:

  • Operation Gideon's Chariots: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the start of "Operation Gideon's Chariots," which involves extensive ground operations in both northern and southern Gaza.
  • Eastern border of Egypt northward along the coast for 22 miles, average width 8 miles. The 1967 census found 352,260 in the Gaza Strip of whom 172,520 were refugees.  From 1967 to 2025-the past 58 years, they have remained dependent on the UN listed as refugees unable or unwanting to find better homes elsewhere.
Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin b: 1972 (53 yrs old)
is an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Brigadier General, which serving as the current IDF Spokesperson .His last position was Head of the Tevel Division. The term "Tevel Division" refers to the International Cooperation Unit within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), responsible for the IDF's foreign relations.
  • Another I turn to for facts is Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus.  Jonathan Conricus (Hebrewיהונתן קונריקוס; born 1979-46 yrs old) is a Swedish-Israeli spokesperson and media commentator. He was the international spokesperson of the Israel Defense Forces from 2017 to 2021. Conricus is a senior fellow at the think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies, based in Washington, DC, in the United States. He was an officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in which he served for 24 years.
  • Five Divisions: IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin stated that five divisions are currently operating within Gaza. This represents a significant escalation of the ground offensive.
  • Airstrikes Preceding Ground Operations: The ground offensive followed a week of intensified airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force (IAF), targeting what the IDF said were over 670 "Hamas terror targets".
  • Objectives of the Operation: The IDF says the objectives include dismantling terrorist infrastructure both above and below ground, and deploying troops in key positions within Gaza. The operation aims to exert pressure on Hamas.
  • Humanitarian Concerns: The renewed offensive coincides with a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by a prolonged blockade on aid entering the territory. There have been reports of rising malnutrition and a lack of essential supplies.
  • Ceasefire Talks: The ground offensive is occurring while ceasefire negotiations are ongoing in Doha. Hamas has confirmed its participation in the talks.
An anonymous source familiar with the discussions stated that U.S. officials conveyed to Israeli counterparts that failure to conclude the war would lead to a withdrawal of American backing. Trump must remember that Obama threatened but didn't follow through.
  • Now, Trump has threatened and must follow the consequences. US President Donald Trump has issued what he called a "last warning" to Hamas to release the hostages being held in Gaza.  "I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job, not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don't do as I say," Trump said in a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform.  .  Hamas accused the US president of encouraging Israel to break the ceasefire deal currently in effect between the two sides.     Trump's statement came just hours after the White House confirmed it was holding direct talks with Hamas over the remaining hostages.
  • It's important that this takes place.  Otherwise, Trump's threats will mean nothing to Iran, and the USA is trying to stop Iran from its goal of having Atomic weapons to thrust at Israel and the United States.  Besides that, Israel has been defending themselves from Hamas's attacks for too long.  It's time to end the suffering from it.  You know the USA would never had allowed one missile to hit their land without retaliation.  Israel has been bombarded by Iran itself at least twice, now, and has been held back .  The light is now green.

Yes, Israel is sending  5 divisions in Gaza to end the war.  A complete division in the Israeli army, also known as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), typically comprises 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers. Here's a breakdown of what a division typically includes:

  • Combat troops: Roughly a third of the division consists of combat personnel.
  • Support roles: The remaining soldiers provide crucial support in areas such as logistics, intelligence, and other essential functions.
  • Some may be women.  The structure of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) differs from most armed forces in the world in several ways. These include the close integration of air, ground, and sea forces, and the conscription of women.

Zahal (Israel's military) is maybe the finest fighting force in the world. This goes especially for their infantry.

Units like the IDF’s “Oz” Commando Brigade or the “35th Paratroopers Brigade” are recognized worldwide for their excellent combat performance. These are elite fighting units.

The rest of Israel’s infantry also consists of battle-proven units with longstanding traditions and proud combat records.
