Javier Gerardo Milei[ (born 22 October 1970) age 55, is an Argentine politician and economist who has served as President of Argentina since 2023. Milei also served as a national deputy representing the City of Buenos Aires for the party La Libertad Avanza from 2021 until his resignation in 2023 due to him being elected President of Argentina that same year.; He replaces Alberto Fernanadez as President. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar of IsraelWe can claim Argentina as friend of Israel. Argentine President Javier Milei told Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar Tuesday, November 2025, during a meeting in Buenos Aires, that he intends to open an Argentine embassy in Jerusalem during his next visit to Israel, expected to be in the spring of 2026.
Milei, who is a staunch supporter of Israel (and isn't Jewish), has a mezuzah affixed to the doorway of his office and a personal prayer book he keeps at his desk.
Milei has proposed a comprehensive overhaul of the country's fiscal and structural policies. On social issues he opposes abortion and euthanasia, and supports civilian ownership of firearms. He also supports freedom of choice on drug policy and prostitution. In foreign policy he advocates closer relations with the United States and with Israel.
- Embassy Move to Jerusalem: Milei has pledged to move the Argentine embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by 2026, a move that breaks with decades of Argentine foreign policy and aligns with the US and a few other countries in recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Central America Above
- The Isaac Accords: In August 2025, Milei launched the "Isaac Accords," a $1 million initiative modeled on the Abraham Accords to improve diplomatic and economic relations between Israel and Latin American countries, starting with Uruguay, Panama, and Costa Rica. The formal launch occurred during a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar in Buenos Aires in November 2025.
- Official Visits and Meetings: Milei made Israel his first foreign visit as president in February 2024, visiting the Western Wall and meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog. He made a second visit in June 2025 to receive the Genesis Prize and address the Knesset (Israeli parliament), where he reiterated his support.
- International Stance: Under Milei, Argentina has reversed its history of anti-Israel votes at the United Nations, designated Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations, and reopened investigations into past bombings of Jewish targets in Argentina. He has publicly criticized the UN for its "anti-Israel bias". Shimon Axel Wahnish is an Argentinean Orthodox rabbi and diplomat. Since 2024, he has been Argentina's ambassador to Israel.
- Personal and Religious Affinity: Milei, a Catholic, has expressed interest in converting to Judaism and has a close relationship with Rabbi Shimon Axel Wahnish, who he appointed as Argentina's ambassador to Israel. Wahnish, 42, has been close to Milei as the Catholic “anarcho-capitalist” made a meteoric rise to power and is widely understood to be responsible for Milei’s recent philosemitism, which shaped his candidacy and first months as president. If confirmed, Wahnish will move from Buenos Aires to Israel with his family — his wife and six children — but it’s unclear whether he will land in Herzliya, Israel, where Argentina’s embassy has been located. Milei has vowed to move the embassy to Israel’s contested capital city of Jerusalem.
- Economic Ties: Both countries are working to boost economic relations, with Israel planning to open an Economic Attaché Office in Buenos Aires in 2026 and working toward establishing direct flights.
- Milei's strong support for Israel has been praised by Israeli leaders, who call him a "great friend" and a "miracle" for the Jewish people, but it has also drawn some criticism and public backlash in Argentina from those concerned about the impact on Palestinian rights and regional stability.
- The first thing I think about when hearing "ARGENTINA"is the most famous woman associated with Argentine leadership is Eva Perón (Evita), First Lady to President Juan Perón, known for championing the poor and women's rights, inspiring the iconic song "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from the musical Evita, though she was never President herself, but a powerful political figure whose life and legacy are immortalized in music. When Husseini of Palestine visited Germany and Nazis during WWII
- They do not talk about this fact, though. Argentina became a haven for Nazis after World War II due to its initial neutrality and President Juan Perón's role in establishing "ratlines", or escape routes, to help war criminals evade capture. The government welcomed Nazis for various reasons, including potential military and scientific expertise, while many Nazis also found refuge there due to a mix of financial and ideological motivations, as well as anti-communist sentiment. Prominent Nazis like Adolf Eichmann and Josef Mengele were among those who found safety in Argentina.

- So Milei has a hard act to follow. They can hide.
