I was very disappointed with Michael Smerconish's CNN segment on CNN. He was a man dependent on the opinion of the writer, Thomas Friedman, of "From Beirut to Jerusalem," and was against Netanyahu. Smerconish, "Michael Andrew Smerconish born March 15, 1962) is an American radio host, television presenter, political commentator, author, and lawyer. He hosts The Michael Smerconish Program on CNN.
From Beirut to Jerusalem (1989) is a book by American journalist Thomas L. Friedman chronicling his days as a reporter in Beirut during the
According to Smerconish or Friedman, Netanyahu is purposely keeping the war going in order to remain in power as a Prime Minister. That's totally disgusting that anyone would think like that..This is why I'm writing. What is it with these men who banter the English language around? Are they jealous of Netanyahu's ability to not only debate in English but speak Hebrew as well? Neither one seems to have any basic army training, and Netanyahu has had the best.
Smerconish is not Jewish or Israeli, for that matter. His mother is Montenegrin, coming from the village of Cetinje in the former Yugoslavia. His father’s family is Carpatho-Rusyn, tracing their roots to the village of Swierzowa Ruska which was located in modern Southeast Poland, not far from the Slovakian border.
Thomas Friedman in 2005But Friedman is; Friedman was born on July 20, 1953, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Margaret Blanche (née Phillips) and Harold Abe Friedman. When Margaret Blanche Phillips was born on 3 November 1918, in Minnesota, United States, her father, Binyamin Tzion aka Benjamin Phillips, was 32 and her mother, Raizel Shachnah aka Rose Phillips, was 28.
Friedman is Jewish. I understand why he is opposing Netanyahu; he's no doubt of the Reformed leftist of the USA who have not involved themselves with Israel's history or struggles. He attended Hebrew school five days a week until his Bar Mitzvah, then St. Louis Park High School, where he wrote articles for his school's newspaper. He became enamored with Israel after a visit there in December 1968, and he spent all three of his high school summers living on Kibbutz HaHotrim, near Haifa. He has characterized his high school years as "one big celebration of Israel's victory in the Six-Day War." What ideas he developed then no longer is workable. History since then, and especially October 7th, shows just where Hamas terrorism, an avenue stemming from the original PA, is aiming for. They are already bragging about their big win in Gaza, plotting their next death sentence on more Israelis.
The beginnings of the kibbutz were in December 1941, with the formation of a work company near Kiryat Haim by Jewish refugees from Czechoslovakia and Germany. The meaning of the name HaHotrim (The Rowers) is symbolising the wishes of the founders to engage in fishing. The kibbutz was established in 1952 on the land of a depopulated Palestinian village named al-Tira. In 1999, Mount Carmel Naval Base was relocated to here.
American University in CairoFriedman studied at the University of Minnesota for two years, but later transferred to Brandeis University and graduated summa cum laude in 1975 with a degree in Mediterranean studies. Friedman also pursued Arabic studies at The American University in Cairo, where he graduated in 1974 from its Arabic language unit (ALU). Friedman later taught a class in economics at Brandeis in 2006, and was a commencement speaker there in 2007. After graduating from Brandeis, he attended St Antony's College at the University of Oxford as a Marshall Scholar, earning an M.Phil. in Middle Eastern studies.
Benjamin Netanyahu at 18 in IDF...Between 1956 and 1958, and again from 1963 to 1967, his family lived in the United States in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, while father Benzion Netanyahu taught at Dropsie College. Benjamin attended and graduated from Cheltenham High School and was active in the debate club, chess club, and soccer. He and his brother Yonatan grew dissatisfied with what they saw as the superficial way of life they encountered in the area, including the prevalent youth counterculture movement and the liberal sensibilities of the Reform synagogue, Temple Judea of Philadelphia, that the family attended. What I have noticed is that the USA is top-heavy with Reformed Jews who have a distinct leftist persuasion in politics, be it in the USA or Israel. Israel's politics is far stronger in the right side of politics for themselves, especially when the chips are down and they want to be protected; they have turned to Netanyahu, who was from the Likud party; personally not orthodox or Reformed, but the son of a well-known historian of Jewish studies; Born to secular Jewish parents, Netanyahu was raised in West Jerusalem and the United States. Netanyahu was born in 1949 in Tel Aviv.
On 18 July, 2024, Military orders said that draft orders to the ultra orthodox men most likely to show up for duty, including those who work and have a driver's license. The IDF to begin drafting 3,000 Haredi men starting Sunday in 3 waves. Up until now, they were given a special exemption, but with men and women serving, and our history of Jewish heros also being fighters like King David, they can no longer be protected because they are studying to be rabbis. In order to have a government at a crucial period in our Jewish history, Netanyahu has taken on Orthodox parties to round out the government expectations to blend with his Likud Party. Believe me, government is much harder to work with in Israel as Israelis are not sheep; we're all shepherds and are born leaders. Nobody follows the leader for his sake only; the same being a teacher from the states and teaching English in Israel. I ran into the same with parents; each son was unique and special and deserved special treatment; and they were indeed in a position to feel that way, with their sons entering the IFD being a given in their life. The problems facing Netanyahu are so unique, one wonders how he can stand up to such pressure. It makes being a president of the USA or a king of another country look easy as pie. Remember, even the methods of fighting that the IDF must be developing is different than any other urban type of warfare today. And then Netanyahu not only has generals to abide with but the USA big brother and the European middle-sized brother to content with. Oy Vey!
His mother, Tzila Segal (1912–2000), was born in Petah Tikva in the Ottoman Empire's Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem, and his father, Warsaw-born Benzion Netanyahu (né Mileikowsky; 1910–2012), was a historian specializing in the Jewish Golden age of Spain. His paternal grandfather, Nathan Mileikowsky, was a rabbi and Zionist writer. When Netanyahu's father immigrated to Mandatory Palestine, he hebraized his surname from "Mileikowsky" to "Netanyahu", meaning "God has given." While his family is predominantly Ashkenazi, he has said that a DNA test revealed him to have some Sephardic ancestry. He claims descent from the Vilna Gaon.
Personally, I have found through DNA testing to be connected to his mother's side, the Segals. We also have a claim to be descended from the Vilna Gaon along with many others.
