One of Many Knife Attacks Going On In Israel

 Nadene Goldfoot

Hadera (Hebrewחֲדֵרָה ) is a city located in the Haifa District of Israel, in the northern Sharon region, approximately 45 kilometers (28 miles) from the major cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa. The city is located along 7 km (5 mi) of the Israeli Mediterranean Coastal Plain. The city's population includes a high proportion of immigrants arriving since 1990, notably from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union. In 2022 it had a population of 103,041.  Hadera was established in 1891 as a farming colony by members of the Zionist group, Hovevei Zion, from Lithuania and Latvia. By 1948, it was a regional center with a population of 11,800. In 1952, Hadera was declared a city, with jurisdiction over an area of 53,000 dunams,   Hadera is a lot like Hillsboro, Oregon with a similar population of 107,730.  They should be sister cities.  Hillsboro is just outside of Portland, Oregon.  It used to be considered as "in the country-side."

Security forces and emergency workers at the scene of a stabbing attack in Hadera, October 9, 2024. (Tal Gal/Flash90) are  below:

Rafael Mordechai Fishof, 35, died of injuries he sustained in yesterday's terror attack in Hadera.  Rabbi Rafael Mordechai Fishof was reportedly returning from a study session when attacker critically injured him; another of the five surviving victims remains in serious condition.   He was a rabbi and father of 6. With all the missiles shot at Israel, one rarely remembers that other attacks might be going on at the same time.

"Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical team, the injured person was pronounced dead," said a statement from the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, where Fishof had been admitted.

Here's how Hamas felt about it.  "Palestinian militant group Hamas, with which Israeli forces are locked in a fierce war in Gaza, praised the Hadera attack, calling it a "heroic stabbing. operation." Hamas also called for "more painful strikes against the occupation (Israel)".

The alleged attacker used a moped to drive between four locations in the city, stabbing people at each place. He was identified by Hebrew-language media as an Arab Israeli resident of Umm al-Fahm.  The terrorist was apprehended by police with the help of armed citizens at the scene.

The Hadera attack came more than a week after 7 people were killed in a shooting and stabbing claimed by Hamas in the Israeli commercial hub of Tel Aviv.

This is not a single occurrence.  Palestinian militants have carried out several attacks on Israelis since October 7 last year, when Hamas attacked southern Israel, sparking war in Gaza.

Zionists had bought the land used for Hadera.  The land was purchased from a Christian effendi, Selim Khuri. This was the largest purchase of land in Eretz Israel by a Zionist group, although the land was of low quality and mostly swampland.  The land, at one time owned by the Ottoman Empire, had laid waste, turning into swampland shortly after the Jews had been forced out.  No one was left to take care of the land.  Mosquitoes squatted there.
