PM Orban's Hungarian Associates: The Anti-Semitic Type And Jewish Hungarian, George Soros, Part II

 Nadene Goldfoot

George Soros, billionaire,  is antagonistic towards Israel.  Is it just a pretense to protect Israel from more hatred?  It doesn't seem to be.  The list of organizations is a veritable who’s who of hostile, anti-Israel actors.  One of the leaked documents shows that between 2001 and 2015, Soros funneled over $9.5 million into a range of groups including Adalah-A leading Palestinian Arab non-partisan, community-wide, non-governmental organisation located in Israel, which was established by four healthcare ..., the Al-Tufula Center-that supports Arab women in Nazareth, Israel and empowers them the Arab Association for Human Rights, Baladna-a Qatari agricultural company that raises livestock and produces dairy products;  The Galilee Society-A leading Palestinian Arab non-partisan, community-wide, non-governmental organization located in Israel, which was established by four healthcare ..., Molad,-promoting ending all Jewish settlements in West Bank;   the New Israel Fund-NIF is a tool for people who want to pool resources to help build a better Israel. SUPPORT JUSTICE AND EQUALITY. Take a Stand for a Better Israel, probably in Soros's view; and others.    Billionaire George Soros generally does not hide the fact that he uses the considerable funds at his disposal to support his extremist, leftist ideals.

Admiral Miklos Horthy, b: 1868,  with Hitler:  Miklós Horthy de Nagybánya, was a Hungarian admiral and statesman who served as the regent of the Kingdom of Hungary between the two World Wars and throughout most of World War II – from 1 March 1920 to 15 October 1944.

Orban is denouncing Hungary's role in the Holocaust of which  Horthy was involved.  Orbán’s statement came days after Hungary’s government received major blowback for launching an anti-migrant campaign with posters depicting the face of Hungarian-born Jewish billionaire George Soros and praising Hungary’s controversial World War II leader, Miklós Horthy.

What about the attacks against billionaire Jewish philanthropist George Soros? I ask.  I don't like Soros, either, but for far different reasons that Orban, I'm sure. Soros was a teen during the Holocaust, a victim who was as emotionally damaged as many other survivors.  How he turned his life into luxury and money is beyond my understanding.  The New Israel Fund he donates to describes itself as active on the issues of civil and human rights, women's rights, religious status, human rights for Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied territories, the rights of Israel's Arab minority, and freedom of speech. The New Israel Fund is the largest foreign donor to progressive causes in IsraelIts financial support for Breaking the Silence, Adalah, B’Tselem, Yesh Din, and other groups allegedly hostile to Zionist values has drawn criticism.  He helps the Palestinians, not the Jews.  It isn't making the Palestinians ending their firing rockets from Gaza or flying kites of fire into the forests or ending the terrorism.

It's obvious to me Soros is anti-Zionistic, and to me that's anti-Semitism in itself; pretty bad for a man who suffered in the Holocaust.    Even if no antisemitic insinuation is intended, casting a Jewish individual as a puppet master who manipulates national events for malign purposes has the effect of mainstreaming antisemitic tropes and giving support, however unwitting, to bona fide antisemites and extremists who disseminate these ideas knowingly and with malice.

Born in Budapest in 1930, George Soros is chair of Soros Fund Management LLC. As one of history’s most successful financiers, his views on investing and economic issues are widely followed.  (He's 92 years old).  This is the official site for information about George Soros.  Born in Hungary , he lived through the Nazi occupation of 1944–1945, which resulted in the murder of over 500,000 Hungarian Jews. His own Jewish family survived by securing false identity papers, concealing their backgrounds, and helping others do the same. Soros later recalled that “instead of submitting to our fate, we resisted an evil force that was much stronger than we were—yet we prevailed. Not only did we survive, but we managed to help others.”

George Soros HonFBA is a Hungarian-born American businessman and philanthropist. As of March 2021, he had a net worth of US$8.6 billion, having donated more than $32 billion to the Open Society Foundations, of which $15 billion have already been distributed, representing 64% of his original fortune.

A poster showing George Soros, saying "Let's not allow Soros to have the last laugh!". Someone has written "dirty Jew" on his forehead

In the 2017 parliamentary election, Orbán promoted anti-Semitic imagery of powerful Jewish financiers scheming to control the world. Thousands of posters of a grinning Soros with the slogan “Let’s not allow Soros to have the last laugh!” were posted around the country on billboards, on the metro, and on the floors of Budapest’s trams. Israel’s ambassador to Hungary issued a statement denouncing the campaign, saying it “evokes sad memories but also sows hatred and fear”, an apparent reference to Hungary’s part in the deportation of 500,000 Jews during the Holocaust.

Zsolt Bayer, Hungarian journalist who called Jews ‘stinking excrement’ addresses CPAC conference.   Zsolt Bayer, who has history of antisemitic and racist comments, among speakers at event held by US conservative group in Budapest that included speeches from Trump and Tucker Carlson.

The New York Times ran an article announcing Orban was a friend to Israel and to Bigots.  He plays a double game on anti-Semitism.  One of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s close political allies, journalist Zsolt Bayer, published a vicious rant this month denigrating, among others, the United States and President Joe Biden.  Then he picked on the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

Young Antony Blinken b: 16 April 1962  in Yonkers, New York, to Jewish parents, Judith (Frehm) and Donald M. Blinken, who later served as U.S. ambassador to Hungary. His maternal grandparents were Hungarian Jews. Blinken's uncle, Alan Blinken, served as the U.S. ambassador to Belgium. His paternal grandfather, Maurice Henry Blinken, was an early backer of Israel who studied its economic viability, and his great-grandfather was Meir Blinken, a Yiddish writer.

The most disturbing element of Bayer’s column, however, is that at a time when Secretary of State Antony Blinken is taking a lead in decrying the recent explosion of worldwide antisemitism, Orban’s friend wrapped up his argument by using a time-honored antisemitic slur to characterize Blinken, who is Jewish.  Bayer ridiculed the assertion that Blinken had “Hungarian roots” even though his mother’s family were Jewish Hungarians who immigrated to the United States. Bayer rudely addressed the new secretary of state and exclaimed “You are completely a ROOTLESS! Hungarian as you are a rootless American.”

Remember, Hitler maligned Jews as a “rootless international clique that incites nations against each other”; Stalin employed the “rootless cosmopolitan” charge to question the patriotism of Soviet Jews and as a prelude to begin purges against prominent Soviet Jews in the 1940s and ’50s.

Zsolt Bayer, a founding member of Orbán’s ruling Fidesz party, received the Order of Merit of the Knight’s Cross this weekend for his “exemplary journalistic work,” according to the official gazette Magyar Közlöny, Bloomberg reported.  His anti-Semitism passed with colors and was exemplary!  If that's how Orban sees it, it makes him all the more of an anti-Semite.

In a 2013 article, Bayer wrote that “a significant portion of the Gypsies are unfit for coexistence;  not fit to live among human beings. These people are animals and behave like animals.” The article was deemed racist, and the state media authority fined the Magyar Hírlap daily where it appeared, according to the Hungarian Spectrum website.

It seems that PM Viktor Orban, telling the world that Hungary had no part in the Holocaust,  has forgotten that Miklos Horthy, past government official who cozied up to Hitler, had a lot to do with the Holocaust.  He seems to ignore the fact that Zsolt Bayer, of his own party,  is a real anti-Semite.

On an early page of Night, Elie Wiesel’s autobiographical account of the Holocaust, he recalls the Hungarian police’s orders as they echoed throughout his small Jewish ghetto. “Faster! Faster! Move, you lazy good-for-nothings!,” they screamed.

“That was when I began to hate them, and my hatred remains our only link today,” he writes. “They were our first oppressors. They were the first faces of hell and death.”

The Hungarian police were almost as bad as the Nazis.

In a country where anti-Semitism is alarmingly commonplace, it’s irresponsible for the government to use taxpayers’ money to run a campaign that plays into anti-Semitic tropes and encourages hateful views. Hungary’s government should aim to tamp down intolerance, not stir it up.  And why are the American Republican Party listening to Orban?

CPAC,, the Conservative Political Action Republicans and Viktor Orban Part I

 Nadene Goldfoot

The Conservative Political Action Conference is the largest and most influential gathering of conservatives in the world. Launched in 1974, CPAC brings together hundreds of conservative organizations, thousands of activists, millions of viewers and the best and brightest leaders in the world. It is being held in  Dallas, Texas!

Former Vice President Mike Pence and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who have also been floated as possible 2024 contenders, are not scheduled to speak at the event.  Republicans are missing the boat by passing up the best in the party, these two.

    Orban at the Conference 2022

Instead, the main speaker was Viktor Orban b: May 31, 1963, Prime Minister of Hungary.  Now, when people are invited to be the key speaker like he was, it's because they are admired and honored.  Viktor Mihály Orbán is a Hungarian politician who has served as prime minister of Hungary since 2010, previously holding the office from 1998 to 2002. He has presided over Fidesz, since 1993, with a brief break between 2000 and 2003. He is known to be a big anti-Semite.

He was introduced by the announcer say, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is how we fight!  This is Victor Orban."

The Hungarian prime minister, under fire over a July 23 speech, highlighted a type of nationalistic populism taking hold on the American right.  Orbán got a warm CPAC reception after 'mixed race' speech blowback.  “I’m here to tell you that we should unite our forces,” said Orbán, the Hungarian prime minister who has found himself increasingly alienated from democratic countries in Europe, as he has opposed immigration and liberal views on family and gender — and increasingly close with the MAGA-aligned American right.

Touching on his signature issues, the far-right leader railed against immigration, globalism and gender fluidity as he declared that the “West is at war with itself,” describing an ideological “battle for Western civilization” he said would be fought in Washington and Brussels.   His July 23 comments that Hungary must not become a “mixed-race” country, pointing to other nations in Europe with large immigrant populations. One of Orbán’s top aides resigned over his comments, saying his speech sounded as if it were given by a “Nazi.

Orbán received a welcome reception from American activists who seemed unfamiliar with — but intrigued by — his policy of increased government spending to promote traditional marriage and encouraging citizens to have more children. Matt Schlapp, who chairs the American Conservative Union that hosts CPAC, said after Orbán’s controversial remarks that the conference would “let the man speak.”

And Schlapp and his organization, like Tucker Carlson and other right-wing American commentators, have developed a cozy relationship with Orbán and his government in Hungary. In May, CPAC held its first conference in Hungary, where former President Donald Trump addressed the audience by video. On Tuesday, Orbán was welcomed by Trump to his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., where he called the Hungarian leader a “friend.  “The globalists can all go to hell,” Orbán said to enthusiastic applause. “I have come to Texas.”

When President Donald Trump hosted Orban in 2019 in Washington, he should have known  was  welcoming a leader who deals in hateful anti-Semitic tropes.  He covers it up with naive people he addresses by saying Jews are safe in Israel and in Hungary.  Do we all still believe everything we are told?  Would you believe words out of the mouth of Alex Jones?  He was just on trial and lost for lying about Sandy Hook's children whose hoax Jones peddled caused the parents a living hell.

The 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference was held on February 24 to 27 in Orlando, Florida. Speakers included former U.S. president Donald Trump, Florida governor Ron DeSantis, and former Democratic congresswoman and presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard.

Hungarian leader, Miklos Horthy and Hitler, buddies in 1938

The man brings to the mind how Hitler started his course in life.  How can humanity swallow such beliefs and repeat the most horrible period of all time by swallowing such a person again?   Last year, Orban raised concerns in Hungary’s Jewish community when he praised the country’s interwar leader Miklos Horthy, a Hitler ally, and used an image of Jewish U.S. financier George Soros in an anti-immigration billboard campaign. For Horthy, Hitler served as a bulwark against Soviet encroachment or invasion. Horthy was obsessed with the Communist threat. One American diplomat remarked that Horthy's anti-communist tirades were so common and ferocious that diplomats "discounted it as a phobia".

Hungary's Two-Faced Prime Minister, Viktor Orban Supports Anti- Semitism

 Nadene Goldfoot

Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary since 2010

Back on June 29, 2017, almost 5 years ago, the anti-Defamation League (ADL), warned us about remarks made by the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, who was praising a notorious anti-Semite and ally of Hitler and Nazi Germany, the Hungarian leader, Miklos Horthy.   This man, Horthy, had introduced  anti-Semitic legislation, allied with Nazi Germany, and deported Jews to their death, and Orban was praising him. It was the whole Hungarian government who took this position!

Orbán has reinvigorated his government’s anti-Soros campaign, which has often been marked by conspiratorial and antisemitic rhetoric, as Hungary and Poland have tussled with other European leaders over the so-called “rule-of-law” mechanism (human rights within the EU). The dispute is holding up final agreement on the EU’s €1.7tn (£1.5tn) seven-year budget and recovery package.  (https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2020/09/hungary-rule-of-law/)

Hungary’s rightwing prime minister, Viktor Orbán, is threatening to veto the new EU budget over a provision that would link some funding to rule-of-law concerns. As the standoff intensifies, he has found a familiar enemy to blame: the 90-year-old financier and philanthropist George Soros.

The Hungarian prime minister told Tucker Carlson of Fox News that Biden has "limited knowledge" of his country, and therefore cannot understand the issues at hand when he makes such remarks.  "Somebody who does not speak our language has a very limited knowledge on Hungary, even in the recent several decades of our life, not understanding of obviously having an opinion like that," he said. "You know, it's by itself, it's a personal insult for all the Hungarians."

Biden's 2020 opponent, Trump, was notably close with Orban – as the left-leaning Brookings Institution claimed that the then-president's hosting of Poland's Andrzej Duda was essentially helping him in his reelection bid against a left-leaning Warsaw mayor.  Orban – speaking with "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on Thursday -- was the first European leader to endorse Trump's reelection bid, while Trump lauded Orban's border security and counterterrorism policies, as well as endeavors to "protect and help Christian communities" throughout the world.

Haj Amin al-Husseini, Sherif of Jerusalem, meeting in Germany with Hitler to solve his problems with Jews...

When Nazism came to power, it affected Hungary as well.  The scope of anti-Jewish measures enacted by the Hungarian government increased.

Notice Germany's proximity to Czech Republic, Poland...

After Adolf Hitler rose to power in 1933, the Hungarian government became interested in making an alliance with Nazi Germany for their own self preservation.  To do so, they took on the attributes of the Nazis.

Hungary was awarded more land in March 1941 when, despite its alliance with the Yugoslav government, Hungary joined its new ally, Germany, in invading and splitting up Yugoslavia. By that time, with all its new territories, the Jewish population in Greater Hungary had reached 725,007, not including about 100,000 Jews who had converted to Christianity but were still racially considered to be “Jews.”

Hungary's government have celebrated openly anti-Semitic public figures such as Erno Raffay who compared Muslim migrants to Jewish immigrants of the 19th century by saying that the Jews had multiplied and pushed Hungarians from many areas of their own society.  This should be a lesson to Hungary, he added.

Orban's close friend, Zsolt Bayer, journalist, 10 years ago described two well-known Jews as "stinking excrement." He regretted that Hungary didn't bury all the Jews up to their necks in the woods of Orgovany.  He was referred to the White Terror massacres of Jews and Communists by counter-revolutionary soldiers in 1919.   Bayer is known for his anti-Semitic  comments.  These Jews were the French-German politician, Daniel Cohn Bendit and  Hungarian-born pianist, Andras Schiff.

Such an anti-Semite was awarded 3 years later with the Order of Merit of the Knight's Cross, one of the highest in Hungary.  The government seems to be playing with its population, praising anti-Semites with one side of their mouths while condemning anti-Semitism with the other.

Jewish brothers from Subcarpathian Rus (then part of Hungary) await selection on the ramp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. May 1, 1944. —Yad Vashem (Public Domain)

These anti-Jewish measures were also applied to the 300,000 Jews in territories which the Hungarians annexed from Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Romania during WWII.  In 1944, the Nazis overran Hungary, imposing ghettos, concentration camps, and deportations to extermination centers.  Of Hungary's 725,000 Jews, about 400,000 were killed. Hungary's total population in 1939 was 9,129,000.  Yugoslavia had 15,490,000.  Romania had 19,933,800.

Hungary's role in the Holocaust is nothing to brag about.  Between May and the middle of July 1944, , some 450,000 Hungarian Jews were deported and 350,000 gassed at Auschwitz.  They were the last country to suffer from the Holocaust.  In total, between 1939 and 1945, 6,000,000 Jewish victims were slaughtered by the Nazis. The head Nazi, Goering,'s answer to Hitler's Jewish Question, was to  involve a dozen countries, many of which, like Hungary and Italy, had not turned against their Jews in any murderous way yet, would do so.

"Hungary has attempted to relativize Hungary's role in the Holocaust over and over again. A few ways it does so is by erecting statues or monuments — like Budapest's Memorial for Victims of the German Occupation, which critics say relativizes Hungary's role in the deportation of more than 440,000 Jews during the Holocaust — or setting up museums, such as the controversial "House of Terror" in Budapest. Anti-Semitic writers such as Albert Wass who was sentenced in absentia to death for war crimes in 1946 are now part of the national curriculum.

"The problem, not only in Hungary," argued Heisler, "is that politicians from all camps play the ‘Jew card' when it works for them politically." He has called on all politicians and parties to put a stop to anti-Semitism.

            Vicktor Orban

Mr. Orban is the apogee of these contradictions: He is a far-right leader of a country whose Jewish citizens say they face less harassment than Jews in any other part of Europe. Mr. Orban and his party, Fidesz, have used anti-Semitic tropes to promote his vision of Hungarian nationalism, and have been accused of trying to understate Hungarian complicity in the Holocaust — even as he has bankrolled many Jewish institutions and causes.

Under Mr. Orban, anti-Semitic authors from the Horthy era have been added to the national curriculum, and the Constitution has been rewritten to imply that the Horthy government was not responsible for its actions during the final 14 months of World War II, a period during which the vast majority of Hungarian Jews were deported and murdered.

Almost ironically, Viktor Orban is a close friend of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has rarely uttered any criticism of anti-Semitism in Hungary. The two have similar political agendas, are critical of the EU and share an animosity towards Soros."  What is the old story?  The enemy of my enemy is my friend (at least for the time being).  Politicians must practice a lot of pretense with each other.

Budapest, Hungarian born George Soros on August 12, 1930, 91 years old

What about the attacks against billionaire Jewish philanthropist George Soros, I asked. Just this year, a new media campaign featured Soros and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker with the caption: “You also have the right to know what Brussels is preparing for!”

This is sad because such old hat slander.   Such accusations have been going on as long as probably the 1st century CE about Jews and money, and that's because Christianity caused all professions to be taken from Jews except money-lending; banking, etc.  George Soros is not liked by many Jews including myself, though he is a Jew who was in the Holocaust.  His actions since then have been against Israel.  I think his thinking has been damaged by the Holocaust except his knowledge of making money.  I'll let the psychologist figure this person out.  I see that the anti-Semites are taking advantage of these 2 coincidences.  Sad, indeed.

From October 2015, when Orbán personally cast the Hungarian-born American financier and Holocaust survivor, George Soros, as a national hate-figure, accusing him of funding those who “support everything that weakens the nation-state” and “the European human rights activism that encourages the refugees” to reach Europe, the tension acquired a more immediate nature.  For over three years, the Orbán government has been running a political campaign warning of hordes of Muslim immigrants about to descend on Europe. The face of that campaign is an elderly Jewish financier, George Soros, born in Budapest to a non-observant Jewish family, Soros survived the Nazi occupation of Hungary and moved to the United Kingdom in 1947, and the terms used to describe him could have been lifted directly from the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion.”
