Nostradamus , Jew of France Born Into World-Wide Anti-Semitism

 Nadene Goldfoot

Michel de Nostredame (December 1503 – July 1566), usually Latinised as Nostradamus, was a French astrologer, apothecary, physician, and reputed seer, who is best known for his book Les Prophéties (published in 1555), a collection of 942 poetic quatrains allegedly predicting future events.  He was Jewish, born during the time of the Spanish Inquisition.    He probably wasn't a practicing Jew, but that doesn't matter. They were Jewish Christians, and hated the Catholic Church, so they say. Nostradamus's father's family had originally been Jewish, but had converted to Catholic Christianity a generation before Nostradamus was born, which could have been done in about 1478 in France.  Jews were not wanted in France.

Nostradamus’ prophecies speak of dark futures—mass exterminations, famines, wars of epic proportions, and scientific disasters—all things which have come true over the centuries. They were predicted by a man who claims he saw it coming hundreds of years ago. If Nostradamus truly did know the future, what else could we learn from his foreseeing?

Nostradamus was born on either 14 or 21 December 1503 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Provence, France, where his claimed birthplace still exists, and baptized Michel. He was one of at least nine children of notary Jaume (or Jacques) de Nostredame and Reynière, granddaughter of Pierre de Saint-Rémy who worked as a physician in Saint-Rémy.

Jaume's family had originally been Jewish, but his father, Cresquas, a grain and money dealer based in Avignon, had converted to Catholicism around 1459–60, taking the Christian name "Pierre" and the surname "Nostredame" (Our Lady), the saint on whose day his conversion was solemnised. The earliest ancestor who can be identified on the paternal side is Astruge of Carcassonne, who died about 1420. Michel's known siblings included Delphine, Jean (c. 1507–1577), Pierre, Hector, Louis, Bertrand, Jean II (born 1522) and Antoine (born 1523). Little else is known about his childhood, although there is a persistent tradition that he was educated by his maternal great-grandfather Jean de St. Rémy—a tradition which is somewhat undermined by the fact that the latter disappears from the historical record after 1504 when the child was only one year old.

So he was Nostradamus, son of Jaume the notary and Reyniere, son of Cresuas, a grain and money dealer;  his father and grandfather and possibly ggrandfather-Astruge of Carcassanne.  They all had to convert to Catholisicm during this period of anti-Semitism from the Catholic Church.

His father was too afraid to do anything for fear of being killed.  His prophecies have come true for those who believe they understand his hidden meanings.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO9R7-ZOcs4  They say they are the countdown to the apocalypse.  2/3s of his writings have come true.  We have 1/3 more to go.  He used astrology a lot.

The stage was set for anti-Semitism; hatred and fear of Jews.  From 640, 721 and 873, Jews in the Byzantine Empire were forcibly converted to Christianity, and still there were Jews in the world. The Romans had set their meetings to speak of excluding Jews from everything. They didn't want their new religion of Christianity to have any competition.  It was enough that Constantine preferred his old religion from Mt. Olympus and his polytheistic beliefs.

Being France borders the Mediterranean Sea, Jews had been trading with port cities since before 70 CE when Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed by fire by the Romans, trading during the period of the Roman Empire.

France had the 1st Crusade in 1096; Blood Accusations in Blois in 1171;  !st Lateran Council in 1215;  .Disputation in Paris in 1240 where book burning was done to the book, Talmud.  Louis IX from 1226 to 1270; and expelled in 1306.

1040-1105:  Rashi was born in Troyes, France before the 1st Crusade and would have been 56 when they hit France. This is our most famous Jewish biblical commentator and teacher that we have had.  Rashi is the abbreviation for Rabbi Solomon Yitzhaki ben Isaac.  He studied in the Rhineland and then returned to Troyes.  His comments are still in our prayer-books.

The Spanish Inquisition:  The Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition, commonly known as the Spanish Inquisition, was established in 1478 by the Catholic Monarchs, King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile.  However, the abhorrence of Jews started happening much earlier.

Back in 1306, Jews had been expulsed from France.

By 1420, a Jewish community in Toulouse, France was annihilated. This happened before Nostradamus.

It was in 1290 that Jews were expulsed from England because they were Jewish.  They wouldn't be allowed to return for 365 years.

Even in Spain, in 1355, 12,000 Jews were  massacred by a mob in Toledo.

World-wide Expulsions:  1349-1360 Hungary;  1421-Austria, 1495-Lithuania, 1497-Sicily, Sardinia, Portugal, 1502-Rhodes Jews forcibly converted, expelled or taken into slavery;  1541-kingdom of Naples;   and it continued.

1392:  Massacres of Jews in Spain-forced baptism of Jews and in Portugal later, and Dominican campaign led by Vicente Ferrer at beginning of 15th century.

In 1492, 180,000 Jews were expulsed from Spain.  50,000 converted to Christianity in order to remain in Spain. Had happened in 1146 as well.   This is the period that we remember with the poem, "In 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue".--. remembering that even Columbus is thought to have been Jewish as he wrote to his son in Hebrew.  His ship sailed at the time Jews were forced to leave Spain or face death.  Several of his crew were said to have been Jewish.  If Columbus was Jewish, he was one of the "hidden Jews,"  pretending to be Christian to protect his life.  They were called "Marranos- meaning Swine in Spanish."  Today they have the name of the Anusim.

1497: forced conversion from Portugal  of almost all Jews .

1540-Spanish Inquisition rules, expusion.

All over the world, Jews were being kicked out of the country.  Jews had to dare to board flimsy ships that might sink hoping to find some unknown land where they could settle in.

What was happening in Palestine at this time?  Jews had been told to stay out ever since 70 CE.  The Crusaders had been there, ruling.

1096-1291:  The Crusades were a series of religious wars between Christians and Muslims started primarily to secure control of holy sites considered sacred by both groups. In all, eight major Crusade expeditions — varying in size, strength and degree of success .

  • 1470: Al-Suyuti: "Syria is divided into five provinces, or sections:— First, Palestine,

  • 1496: In the hands of the Arabs.
  • 1566:  Nostradomus died during the Ottoman Empire's Rule in Palestine.

  • 1517:  Ottoman Empire Rule from Turkey until 1917.
  • Individual Jews returned to Palestine, many tried and didn't make it.  There were many dangers in traveling alone in those days on land and in the seas. Safed (Tzfat) in the mountains was one city that saw people from the galut.

1882:  First Aliyah from Eastern Europe's Jews
  • The influx of immigrants into the Land of Israel during the years 1882-1903 is known as “The First Aliyah.” This was the first large wave of immigrants that were motivated by nationalism. During these years some 25,000 Jews emigrated from Russia and Rumania, and 2,500 arrived from Yemen.

Nostradamus knew of the horrors his own Jewish family had to face, from grandfather to father and himself, so he was ready to face nothing but bad events in the future.

He married a woman in Agen, France of uncertain name (possibly Henriette d'Encausse), with whom he had two children. In 1534 his wife and children died, presumably from the plague. After their deaths, he continued to travel, passing through France and possibly Italy.

The Black Death was present in France between 1347 and 1352. The bubonic plague pandemic, known as the Black Death, reached France by ship from Italy to Marseille in November 1347, spread first through Southern France, and then continued outwards to Northern France.  At the time, Pope Clement VI resided in Avignon in present-day France during the Western Schism, and issued his condemnations of the Jewish persecutions during the Black Death, as well as the flagellants.

Many of Nostradamus's supporters believe his prophecies are genuine. Owing to the subjective nature of these interpretations, however, no two of them completely agree on what Nostradamus predicted, whether for the past or for the future. Many supporters, however, do agree, for example, that he predicted the Great Fire of London, the French Revolution, the rises of Napoleon and Adolf Hitler, both world wars, and the nuclear   destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Popular authors frequently claim that he predicted whatever major event had just happened at the time of each of their book's publication, such as the Apollo moon landings in 1969, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986, the death of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997, and the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. This 'movable feast' aspect appears to be characteristic of the genre.

How The Past Prepared For The Future

 Nadene Goldfoot

Today we prepare for the future through our technology.  In the past, people prepared for the future with astrology.  The Romans used certain people who were adept at this.  The Chaldeans were famous astrologers. They had the reputation.    Babylonian astrology was solely mundane, and prior to the 7th century BCE the practitioners' understanding of astronomy was fairly rudimentary. Because of their inability to accurately predict future celestial phenomena and planetary movement very far in advance, interpretations were done as the phenomena occurred or slightly before. By the 4th century, however, their mathematical methods had progressed enough to calculate future planetary positions with reasonable accuracy, at which point extensive ephemerides (a table or data file giving the calculated positions of a celestial object at regular intervals throughout a period.) began to appear.

Mankind has always looked up to the sky and wondered at its beauty and secrets. Human beings are also incredibly good at spotting patterns, so it is no wonder that we noticed the changing appearance of the night sky as the Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun. Paintings that mark the positions of the planets in the night sky have been discovered in Lascaux, France from around 15,000 BCE.

The fame of the Chaldeans was still solid at the time of Cicero (106–43 BCE), who in one of his speeches mentions "Chaldean astrologers", and speaks of them more than once in his De divinatione. Other classical Latin writers who speak of them as distinguished for their knowledge of astronomy and astrology are Pliny, Valerius Maximus, Aulus Gellius, Cato, Lucretius, Juvenal. Horace in his Carpe diem ode speaks of the "Babylonian calculations" (Babylonii numeri), the horoscopes of astrologers consulted regarding the future.

Notice that Mesopotamia (today's Iraq) also Babylonia (land of Shinar or of the Kasdim (Chaldees) is the land following the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and is also includes Israel's future land.

Who were the Chaldeans?  Chaldea (/kælˈdiːə/) was a country that existed between the late 10th or early 9th and mid-6th centuries BCE, after which the country and its people were absorbed and assimilated into Babylonia.  Semitic-speaking, it was located in the marshy land of the far southeastern corner of Mesopotamia and briefly came to rule Babylon. The Hebrew Bible uses the term כשדים (Kaśdim) and this is translated as Chaldaeans in the Greek Old Testament, although there is some dispute as to whether Kasdim in fact means Chaldean or refers to the south Mesopotamian Kaldu.

At any rate, Abram-Abraham was from the city of Ur of the Chaldees that was at the southern end of the Euphrates River. At the northern part of the river was Babylon.  The nomadic Chaldeans settled in the far southeastern portion of Babylonia, chiefly on the left bank of the Euphrates. Though for a short time the name commonly referred to the whole of southern Mesopotamia in Hebraic literature, this was a geographical and historical misnomer as Chaldea proper was in fact only the plain in the far southeast formed by the deposits of the Euphrates and the Tigris, extending about 640 kilometres (400 mi) along the course of these rivers and averaging about 160 km (100 mi) in width. There were several kings of Chaldean origins who ruled Babylonia. From 626 BC to 539 BC, a ruling family referred to as the Chaldean dynasty, named after their possible Chaldean origin, ruled the kingdom at its height under the Neo-Babylonian Empire.

The Babylonians used horoscopic astrology. By observing the seasonal movement of the sun, moon, and planets, the Babylonians connected their beliefs of divine intervention in their everyday life to space and time.  Babylonian astrology was the first known organized system of astrology, arising in the second millennium BCE which was the time when Abram lived.

In Babylon as well as in Assyria as a direct offshoot of Babylonian culture, astrology takes its place as one of the two chief means at the disposal of the priests (who were called bare or "inspectors") for ascertaining the will and intention of the gods, the other being through the inspection of the livers of sacrificial animals (see omen).

Being Jewish and the daughter of a kosher butcher, this certainly reminds me of the law of Kashrut, where a trained religious-Jewish inspector is present at the time of the slaughter of a kosher animal; most likely a cow, and inspects the carcass. He is a shochet (שוחט, "slaughterer", plural shochtim) is a person who performs shechita. To become a shochet, one must study which slaughtered animals are kosher, what disqualifies them from being kosher, and how to prepare animals according to the laws of shechita). Before one is permitted to indulge in kosher Jewish delicacies such as chopped liver, liver steaks and onions, or sauteed chicken livers, raw liver must undergo various processes before the liver is deemed fit for kosher use. Firstly, as with all kosher meat, the liver must come from a kosher species of animal or fowl that has been schechted, slaughtered, in the proper manner prescribed by the Torah and healthy. If it is an animal liver, all the fats must be meticulously removed. Furthermore, the Torah forbids eating the blood of an animal or bird, therefore, it is necessary to extract the blood from the kosher slaughtered meat or liver.

How is the blood removed? With meat, this process, commonly known as kashering meat, is accomplished by soaking the meat in water, salting it, and then rewashing it. With liver, this method of extraction is insufficient. Since liver contains such a large concentration of blood, the technique used for kashering liver for consumption is broiling.

The history of Babylonian astrology shows the development of astronomical knowledge within the context of divination. A collection of 32 tablets with inscribed liver models, dating from about 1875 BC, are the oldest known detailed texts of Babylonian divination, and these demonstrate the same interpretational format as that employed in celestial omen analysis. Blemishes and marks found on the liver of the sacrificial animal were interpreted as symbolic signs which presented messages from the gods to the king.

That's as far as astrologists could go with our Jewish Prophets as far as assimilating their culture being Abram came out of this culture.  The prophets condemned astrology.  The Book of Daniel calls the Babylonian astrologers "Chaldeans," and this term is found in the Talmud.

If you were to have anything to do with astrology in the Old Testament you would have been stoned to death. Astrologers and people who seek them are an abomination to God.

An arithmancer from Atalanta Fugiens (1618), by Michael Maier  An Arithmancer was a wizard or witch who specialised in the field of Arithmancy, a branch of magic that involved using complicated number charts to make predictions.

Deuteronomy 17:2-3 “If there is found among you, within any of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, in transgressing his covenant, and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden.”

Deuteronomy 18:10-14 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God, for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.

. Isaiah 47:13-14 All the advice you receive has made you tired. Where are all your astrologers, those stargazers who make predictions each month? Let them stand up and save you from what the future holds. But they are like straw burning in a fire; they cannot save themselves from the flame. You will get no help from them at all; their hearth is no place to sit for warmth.

The Sibylline Oracles (The Sibylline Oracles are a collection of oracular utterances written in Greek hexameters ascribed to the Sibyls, prophetesses who uttered divine revelations in a frenzied state),  praise the Jews for rejecting astrology together with war and immorality as the sins which the Nephilim (legendary race created by a union of the sons of G-d and the daughters of man, a term applied hyperbolically to the people of the land of Canaan by the spies dispatched by Moses.) brought upon mankind.

Nevertheless, belief in the influence of stars upon the fate of men and upon the history of nations was prevalent among the great majority of Jews during the Talmudic period and after Josephus relates (Wars, VI: 5) that Jews were encouraged in their stubborn resistance during the period of the revolt against Rome by heavenly signs, favorably interpreted.  Even the rabbis of the Talmud, for the most part, believed in astrology as a science.  The Talmud related several stories about astrologers whose forecasts came true, although many  astrologers were also said to have failed to read the stars correctly. General Josephus wrote for the Roman audience.

Every person, indeed, every blade of grass, was born under a special star which determined his or its fate.  Some rabbis saw significance in the day of the week on which a person was born;  others in the hour of the day.  Yet the rabbis, while admitting the effect of the stars upon the nations, taught that Israel stood above stellar influence.

During the Middle Ages, many rabbis and philosophers studied astrology, and Jews were regarded by the occidental world as masters of the art, a considerable number serving as court astrologers, especially in Spain.  Among those who regarded astrology as a true science may be mentioned:  Saadyah Gaon, Shabbetai Donnolo, Abraham bar Hiyya, Abraham ben Ezra, Samuel Ibn Nagrela, Solomon Ibn Gabirol, and Abraham ben David of Posquieres.

Maimonides (or Moses Ben Maimon, called the Rambam (1135-1204)from Cordova, Spain; the rabbi who established the 613 precepts or Laws of Moses, philosopher, halakhist, and medical writer,  was the sole medieval figure to combat categorically the prevailing belief in astrology, declaring it forbidden by Scripture and bordering on idolatry.  He was nevertheless, not successful in eradicating the belief, and subsequent thinkers, including Nahmanides, Levi ben Gershon, Hasdai Crescas, Isaac Abravanel, and the Vilna Gaon gave it recognition, while Abraham Zacato was among the foremost astrologers of his day.

                                   Abraham's Astrolobe

Abraham Zacuto(b: August 12, 1452-1515) was a Spanish astronomer, astrologer, mathematician, rabbi and historian who served as Royal Astronomer to King John II of Portugal. His astrolabe of copper, his astronomical tables and maritime charts played an important role in the Spanish and Portuguese navigation capability.

The notorious Nostradamus (December 1503-July 1566) from France,  was also of Jewish descent. Nostradamus's father's family had originally been Jewish, but had converted to Catholic Christianity a generation before he was born.  He was a French astrologer, physician and reputed seer, who is best known for his book Les Prophéties, a collection of 942 poetic quatrains allegedly predicting future events. The book was first published in 1555.   On the other hand, Joseph Nasi,(1520-1579) from Portugal, Marrano-hidden Jew, a statesman, nephew and son in law of Gracia Nasi)  duke of Naxos, wrote a book condemning astrology.

In some cultures, the role of the matchmaker was and is quite professionalized. The Ashkenazi Jewish shadchan, or the Hindu astrologer, were often thought to be essential advisors and also helped in finding right spouses as they had links and a relation of good faith with the families. In cultures where arranged marriages were the rule, the astrologer often claimed that the stars sanctified matches that both parents approved of, making it quite difficult for the possibly-hesitant children to easily object – and also making it easy for the astrologer to collect his fee. Tarot divination has also been employed by some matchmakers.

Astrological observation did much to advance scientific Astronomy.  The Zohar and Kabbalistic literature in general show familiarity with and belief in astrology. A number of Jewish customs, mentioned in medieval codes, have an astrological basis, like not starting a project on Mondays or Wednesdays.  The popular greeting, mazzal tov (good luck), is of astrological origin.

Psychics and Bulletins Predicting More ISIS or al-Qaeda Attacks

Nadene Goldfoot
Nostradamus, physician, psychic, apothecary

"Ever since the Kings of France consulted Nostradamus, psychics have been making news.Nostradamus was born in France in 1503 and died in 1566 at age 62.  His parents and ancestors had been Jewish but converted to Roman Catholicism as all Frenchmen were except for the Jews.  This came about as anti-Semitism was getting very bad and was the aftershock of 1492 in Spain with their Spanish Inquisition when Jews were forced to either convert or leave the country.  It quickly affected Jews all over Europe and their realms followed suit.  Otherwise, Nostradamus would have been Jewish.  That's not to say the French Jews weren't much different than the Spanish and went underground with their observances of Judaism, like keeping it a secret that they wouldn't eat pork, candles on Friday night, etc.

So which stargazers predicted the recent spate of terror attacks?

Well, some did.

And American seer Eric Leigh-Pink, who hosts worldwidepredictions.com, says he has been tuning into ominous warnings of an impending terror attack against the United States.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, Leigh-Pink wrote: “The Spirits and I debated the ‘pickle’ we find [ourselves] in. We know there is a calculated attack on various parts of the world coming very soon. These are not lone wolf attacks, but calculated attacks by someone behind the scene.

“We desperately want to share every detail we can gather . . . these predictions are some of the darkest we have ever presented, it’s not just one event but several only making things more dreadful. Even I am having problems sleeping, I find myself nervous and watch the clock tick away."

On Dec. 16, 2014, Leigh-Pink received a spiritual message suggesting a major bomb attack in December or January. He now sees the date Jan. 24, but is not sure.

He wrote: “ 'Bomb’ — Spirits Voice — I had a visual of a colorful cloth covering the bomb making it unable to see with the naked eye. — Metropolis, New York, New Jersey — In about 5 minutes (that means 5 days sometime around the 20th-22nd) but then they said — 24. 2nd. (the 2nd might be a message related to the location or a floor to a building) — ‘By the funny sound.. like a whistle’ — Spirits Voice — Messages somehow related: I had a visual of a small restaurant in a building.

I had a visual of Bagels being placed in a box. I had a visual of a road that only turned left or right but the arrow they showed went directly straight. I had a visual of a house burned down and the area around the house burned. “  This tells me it's either al-Qaeda or ISIS attacking Jews, not that Gentiles don't eat bagels, but buying in quantity could be happening in a Jewish section of town, and they are always attacking Jews. Could this have already happened at the Kosher supermarket in Paris?   .

That reminded me of when I lived in Haifa from 1980 to 1985 and seeing the robot shoot an unknown box spotted on the ground without the owner.  Such things were highly suspicious and might hold some sort of bomb in them.  It was the police routine to have the robot shoot it on the spot.  Usually it was somebody's cookies or cake, but you never knew.  The junior high where I taught English had a display of all the containers that bombs had been found in several years in a row.  Even loaves of uncut bread, which is how you bought bread in Israel.

We've seen that ISIS was behind the kosher supermarket slaughter of 4 Jewish men.  Without the quick thinking of the Muslim store-lady and her getting the 15 customers and herself into some sort of freezer room and out of sight, there would have been an even worse situation.

France has the highest number of Jews and Muslims in Europe living in close quarters, and it hasn't been working out very well.  The Jews have been outnumbered and attacked by 500,000 to 6 million, threatened and killed by these radicals.  The same thing has been going on in Sweden at a lesser extent, zeroing in on the city of Malmo where WWII Jewish holocaust refugees have been living.  Many of their descendants have already left for Israel.
Jews forced to wear yellow star identifying them as Jews in WWII
"You don't have to be a psychic to know what is going on or can happen.  "on July 20, 2014  demonstrators attacked Jewish-owned stores in Sarcelles, a suburb of Paris with a large Jewish community. A synagogue in central Paris was also attacked, and protestors have chanted “gas the Jews” and “kill the Jews” at various rallies. The number of French Jews emigrating to Israel has increased."  Now who do you think those protesters were?

Anti-Semitic graffiti at Jewish Memorial Gardens
In Germany, "Demonstrators chanted “Jew, Jew, cowardly pig, come out and fight alone” during a protest on July 17, and last week explosives were thrown at a synagogue in western Germany. Anti-Semitic graffiti has appeared throughout Rome, and reports of hate speech are up dramatically in Britain."

"After all, the two worst recent incidents of violence against Jews in Europe—the killing of three children and a teacher in a 2012 attack on a Jewish school in Toulouse and the shooting of three people at a Jewish museum in Brussels in May—took place during times when there wasn’t much news coming out of Israel.  So it isn't coordinated with flair-ups in Israel-Palestine, but on its own time line of anti-Semitic activity. "

I blame the countries themselves.  Knowing that there is this anti-Semitism and doing nothing about it only encourages it.  How many countries have historians such as Joan Peters who have looked into the reasons for anti-Semitism, checking out the situation historically as to their own country's activities, like the terrible record I've found about France.  How many TV programs are showing facts and helping to change the attitude of the average man towards Jews?  None, most likely.  Even News channels in the USA show their negativity towards Israel today; so much different from 1967 when Israel won the war against all odds when attacked by all the Muslim nations surrounding them.  In Sweden, the mayor was distinctly anti-Semitic and allowed the attacks on the Jews by the Muslim radicals.  They may not have states, but the next person higher up certainly did nothing about it.

Right now France has tons of soldiers out guarding their 800 Jewish schools according to CNN this morning, but that won't last long.  The thing they must do is educate their population to the truth; how Jews have been treated since 70 CE when they were entering Europe and since 1948 with the creation of Israel and how it happened.  Do they bring up the Dreyfuss Affair?  Do they understand anything?

Released on CNN yesterday, but having come out on Wednesday to governments was a new bulletin of ISIS threatening attacks on USA as well as other places in Europe, more in France possibly.
