Anti-Semitism is hitting us very hard these days. Instigating it are the world events of the Hamas terrorists who have lit the fire under their cohorts, the Hezbollah, led by Iran who sits on the throne directing most all of the Middle East into terrorism against Israel. Colleges and Universities are one of the hardest hit, with Jewish students being attacked and made to feel unsafe with professors leading the masses into anti-Semitism.
Then we have Jews who do not bother to read...and they ignore the facts of why Palestinians have been attacking the "mean Jews" so they see it as, because the Jews of Israel are the people of the state.
It shows they don't even have a clue causing Jews to be living in Israel with Palestinians screaming that it is their land. They can't rebut--so join the Palestinians to their way of thinking.
These particular Jews know nothing, understand nothing, but gather a lot of listeners on their campuses, and their TV shows, as was just shown on The View yesterday. That brought out the comment of the professional DA that it's very American to allow such bantering against a people and universities are the best places to start. Oy vey!
We have a Jewish writing called the Zohar that is leading its readers into believing that some Jews are not actually 'real' Jews and are the cause of Israel's problems. The Zohar is the compilation of the Spanish Kabbalah, most in the form of a commentary on sections of the Torah and parts of the hagiographa (Song of Songs, Ruth, lamentations. The author of the Zohar is the tanna, Simeon ben Yohai, of the 2nd century, his colleagues and disciples. They discuss the mysteries of the Torah in a kabbalistic spirit.
I feel that such a kabbalistic spirit has lead some people into dangerous waters dealing with unwarranted accusations of people of today.
The Zohar (II, 291a) states that many of the Erev Rav were Egyptian magicians, witches, and wizards, who would perform their tricks in the erev ravrava, the “great evening”. The time between sunset and midnight is when the impure forces are most active, hence a “great evening” for those wicked people.
We even have rabbis against certain Jews who are labeled as Erev Rav people. (Exodus 12:38), a “mixed multitude” of people that joined them. The commentator on this is Rashi (Rabbi Shlomo Itzchaki, 1040-1105) who happens to be my favorite biblical commentator-maybe because my DNA and genealogy says we're connected, Oy!
Well,, the Torah does mention the "OTHERS"-meaning other than the Israelites, and who explains that these were non-Jewish people that wished to convert and become part of the Jewish people, having seen such great wonders and miracles. They would go along with the leader, Moses, who was getting all the people released from slavery being held in Egypt. Was someone going to remain because they "liked" being a slave and being whipped?
The Israelites, descendants of Abraham 400+ years later, were people freed who had been conditioned to slavery along with the others. There was not much of a difference if you had to treat them all for PTSD which they could have suffered from, being held for all that time. Moses did a wonderful job on 603,550 people he would cure in the next 40 years of walking and lecturing and turn them into a self-reliant fighting force once more. Sigmund Freud, move over. Abraham was the greatest psychologist.
Moses had traveled with his family contingent and arrived in Canaan. and Abraham was a descendant of Noah, who must have had the Y haplogroup of J1 as we figure Aaron certainly was and Aaron and Moses were said to be descendants. The Cohen gene means those men who came from Aaron's male descendants. We can see this from all the Cohens in the synagogues who have tested their DNA haplogroup.
Half of the males my father's lines matches are of J1's line; the Cohen gene. Cohens, by the way, had more responsibilities than the other men. Levites were next to having the responsibility and should show up also as J1 being Aaron and Moses were from the tribe of Levi. E's are the 2nd largest group.
Other Jewish men have different Y haplogroups which is G, E, R, Q, known to come from other parts of Mesopotamia, etc. This science doesn't lie. We are lucky to live at a time of it's discovery; which is like a tag telling where people were manufactured from. Men have the Y haplogroup and women the Mt haplogroup.
But.....Ibn Ezra (Rabbi Avraham ben Meir ibn Ezra, c. 1089-1092) adds that they were mostly Egyptians, and Shadal (Rabbi Shmuel David Luzzatto, 1800-1865), 825 years later, says they were Egyptians that had intermarried with Jews. It's quite possible that there was a lot of intermarriage going on. They were living in the same country and could also have been slaves, too.
After all, King David's ancestors were intermarried. David was the son of Jesse who was son of Oved, who was son of Boaz and Ruth. Ruth was a Moabite and they were descended from Lot, Abraham's nephew whose father was Abraham's brother. We wound up forced to fight the Moabites but that had nothing to do with Ruth and her descendant, King David who led the charge in battle. Ruth was a wonderful woman, sticking with her mother-in-law, Naomi, which led to her 2nd husband, Boaz, who was Naomi's kinsman, possibly a cousin.
He proves his point using Nehemiah 13:3,(a writer and leader along with Ezra of returned Jews from Babylon-not listed as a prophet) where the non-Jewish “erev” were separated out of the returning Jewish population which, according to him so long ago, Judaism needed to be revived and this was the way to do it. .
The Egyptian people were unduly marked with the "many" as being terrible people; magicians, witches and wizards-reminiscent to days in Salem witch-trials, I think, understandable since this was said by Nehemiah, governor of Judah and who lived in the 5th century BCE and The Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between early 1692 and mid-1693. More than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft—the devil's magic—and 20 were executed. That was 2,192 years after Nehemiah's statement, not saying that Nehemiah was wrong in other statements, but this one is outdated. The proof isn't standing up in my mind. Also, it's so much like labeling all Jews as money=grubbers or other comments like this. Labeling a people as all of some such trait is the start of things like anti-Semitism.
So using proof like this thousands of years old can cause concern. It bleeds into today's problems, which seems be it's GOAL today. So, let us put it all together. "The Erev Rav are those that appear to be Jews, but are imposters. They are not Torah observant (even if they might claim to be) and are, on the contrary, idolaters or atheists who push godless ideas. They are “leaders” that guide Jews astray, and inspire the transgression of Torah law. They tend to be wealthy and corrupt, in influential positions, instigating disorder and division. Like the original intermixed Erev Rav, some may promote widespread assimilation and intermarriage, and some may be sexually depraved. With these qualities in mind, it is very easy to identify who the Erev Rav is".
My favorite prolific writer, Alan Dershowitz, wouldn't stand a chance with this description even though he's the best historian I've read. I wouldn't either. Neither would Netanyahu and other leaders in Israel who would fall on the sword, too but are doing their best. Too many people would feel compelled to think that too many were in such a classification of evil people.
The history of the Jews is not studied in the USA nor probably no other country, either, so certainly have no idea of our circumstance, except in Israel and other Jewish educational centers throughout the world but no public education center, although a few are covering the Holocaust.
So, we have to look inward and repair what is broken here, as well as outward for anti-Semitism. More than ever, anti-Semitism needs to be wiped out. For starters, someone needs to gently point out to the rav/ravs who might be pushing such ideas that they are contributing to the anti-Semitism with such accusations. He , as an example, may be carrying a haplogroup not of the J1 variety himself!
