ISRAEL'S EXISTENCE MATTERS

 Nadene Goldfoot

ISRAEL'S EXISTENCE MATTERS !  That's my new battle-cry.  I've not wanted it to sink into the annuls like Atlantis has done.  It's rarely been studied about in public schools along with the native country's history or others meaningful to that particular country.  It has been on the lips of Jews who have prayed for its rebirth for 2,000 years.  It has mattered only since 1948 when it, after a 2,000 year hiatus, was re-born, this time with serious intent of staying within the circle of live countries.

For it's almost "dead" language has been awakened again and is in use, and so are its people who had almost been totally wiped out by the Holocaust.    This time, Israel has been created by the people of Judah, the Jews, and means to stay, no matter who has said that Israeli lives don't matter.

Thanks to the movement of BLACK LIVES MATTERS, I should have thought of such a slogan, but have been trying to prove this ever since 2004 when I  wrote my first blog cleverly entitled, ISRAEL.  I really wanted to get to the point.

Well, since then we've seen 4 countries make friends with Israel, and since 1973's last battle, Egypt and Jordan have been neighborly, too, which helps.  Now, if Syria and Lebanon could shake off their big brother, Iran, and Iran would shape up, that would make a nicer Middle East.

My idol has been Golda Meir's wit.  She' Israel's former Prime Minister.  Note, she was a WOMAN.  She was Israel's 4th Prime Minister, and served from March 17, 1969 to June 3, 1974, taking the blame for the  the 1973 War.  It was the hardest period, ever, for Israel.

Above all, this country is our own. Nobody has to get up in the morning and worry what his neighbors think of him. Being a Jew is no problem here." Golda Meir.

That's right.  It's the first Jewish country since 70 CE, badly needed as we have been expulsed out of almost every country we've ever lived in.  Jews have embraced their humor as a means of sanity for themselves.  Can you imagine a state full of comedians?  Everyone is trying to top the other's speeches!   Jews have married, bearing a  high regard of a great Talmudic scholar.  Einstein and others like him have been born.  Israel is the country of imagination and mothers  who expect a lot out of their children and let it be known.

On the beach at Tel Aviv

Think of the line -up for medical school here!  Above all, there are many husbands here who sing the praises of their hard-working wives who let them attend school.  Everyone goes along with this custom.  Such a country!  It's a country where bagels and cream cheese are not readily available, but try some bagelas, instead, or pita and humous falafels from the king of falafels or the queen of falafels.  You wonder what is in the black briefcases that everyone carries?  Their lunch.

Avi is a singer who won with Hora in the Eurovision contest.  See below.
Hallelujah by Milk and Honey for Eurovision:
Hallelujah" (Hebrewהללויה‎) was the winning song of the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, performed in Hebrew by Milk and Honey, including Gali Atari, for Israel.[

Music here is delightful, moving you to dance along with it.  Such a beat!  They enter in the Euro-Vision contest and are not kept out because they are Jewish!  They have even won!  Try "Hora" (Hebrew scriptהורהEnglish translation: "Hora") was the Israeli entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1982, performed in Hebrew by Avi Toledano. The song won second place, 61 points behind that year's winning country, Germany.; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw46CEb8Tbg, or

Hallelujia     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c7Xitv2SdI

(Oh my gosh, I'm ready to return!  That's what this music does to me!)  Hora is too much!  Oy vey!  If your music plays on and you hear, "Try not to cry,"  I am.  These little boys can sing!

There are far less problems between men and women's roles here.  Both are serving in the IDF.  I've even heard of women sergeants barking orders at men !

Israel led the world in thinking of others before oneself with Moses and his teachings.  He brought 601,730 Israelite slaves out of Egypt, marched them for 40 years back to Canaan where Jacob, son of Isaac/Israel, son of Abraham had come from.  He started the process of the creation of Israel for the religion that he himself had given to these people that he had received from a Singular G-d.  That all started  over 5,000 years ago.  Israel will not lose its people.  Israel's existence matters-matters a lot.  (for below-open your screen wide)

And beats as well what a wonderful world

Haleluya with the song,
for a day that shines
For all that has been
and for all that is about to happen

Haleluya to the world,
every one will sing
And the big bells
will be echo in a lot of notes
And together with us they will say - haleluya

Haleluya for every thing,
yesterday and tomorrow
Haleluya hand in hand
and sing in one heart - haleluya
