ISIS Sunnis Making a Caliphate-Islamic State

Nadene Goldfoot

                                      Hamas terrorists

The Muslim Brotherhood and Jamaat-e-Islami organizations and their active terrorists are fundamentalist Islamic groups that have given rise to offshoot groups like Hamas terrorists in Gaza who wish to destroy secular Islam and Western society through terrorism to bring back to the world a period of religious Muslim rule.
                                    Sharia Law
Muslims have  fiqhs to choose from.  They are Shafi'i, Hanafi, Maliki, Jafari, Alevi, Hanbali, Zaidi and  Ibadi.
  1. Fiqh (Arabic: فقه‎ [fiqh]) is Islamic jurisprudence. While (Muslims believe) Sharia is divine law, revealed in the Quran, and Sunnah (tradition); fiqh is the human understanding of Sharia. So different countries have different interpretations.
There are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, which is about 20% of the world population.

Sunni Muslims make up about 87 to 90% of the Muslims.  Indonesia has the largest population of all Muslim majority countries with 228,582,000 people of which about 86.1% are Muslims.  Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Tunisia, Guinea, Somalia, Tajikistan, Sierra Leone, Libya, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Chad, Albania, Mauritania, Kosovo, The Gambia, Comoros, Qatar, Djibouti, Brunei, Maldives, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and Palestine are all Sunnis.  They are also in Pakistan, Turkey, Morocco, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Senegal, Lebanon, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Shi'a Muslims are found in Iran which is the 6th largest Muslim majority country with 76,923,300 people.  98% of the population are Shi'a and follow the Jafari fiqh.  It is an Islamic state.  Azerbaijan with 8,676,000 people is 93.4% Shi'a also follow Jafari fiqh.  Other Shi'a are found in Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria,  Lebanon, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

                                The Sunni  Al-AQaeda Terrorists

                               ISIS Terrorists march on Baghdad

A Sunni  terrorist group is Al-Qaeda.  It's chief is Ayman al-Zawahiri.  An offshoot of this group is ISIS, aka ISIL.  This stands for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria or if using the L-the Levant

  1.  However, al-Qaeda and ISIS were not meant to get along, and al-Qaeda excommunicated ISIS in February.  Now they are rivals.  Even al-Qaeda had complained about them shedding "protected" blood.
ISIS has just taken over about 1/3 of Iraq.  By doing this, they are not only establishing a miniature caliphate and base for jihad, but they are challenging Al-Qaeda's chief.  ISIS's leader is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.  He claims to be a descendant of Mohammad. Being a descendant qualifies him for being a caliph.   I wonder if he has had a DNA haplogroup test lately.  If so, his results would have to be J1c3d, which is also the Cohen gene with evidence of being of the Arab line.  Otherwise, it's just so much rhetoric.  Baghdadi has been ridiculing al-Qaeda for not enforcing sharia law (Islamic Law) strictly enough.  So the ISIS primary goal is to create a caliphate.  Their spokesman declared that "Go to Caliphate Baghdad, we have to settle the score."  This is referring to the Abbasid Caliphate of 750 to 1258 that had Baghdad as its capital.

ISIS, an extremely violent Sunni group of terrorists who behead and commit horrific bloody acts against anyone that is Shi'a have taken Mosul and Tikrit and are marching on Baghdad and Samarra.  They came from Syria after taking over part of that where they had a safe haven for themselves.  They had the time to build a formidable organized base.  .

It was Al-Qaeda that attacked the Twin Towers in New York City.  The Muslim Brotherhood had taken over Egypt in 2012 with Morsi, but was quickly stopped by General Sisi.  So much for a Democratic vote that had to be  the most blind act of democracy ever committed by a society that is largely illiterate.

Surprisingly, 500,000 Sunni Iraqis fled the Mosul area when their 150,000 security forces ran.  They left behind their uniforms and weapons, mostly provided for them from the USA.  They knew about ISIS's brutality.  They were displaced earlier because of fighting in Anbar Province. 30,000 ran when 800 ISIS terrorists drove in, because of this known brutality.

Update: 7/20/14:  The Christians of Mosul have been told to Convert or die. They have painted an Islamic N for Nazarene on their door and will come back to check.

Uniting with ISIS  are other terrorists such as the Baath Party fighters of Iraq, Saddam Husseins's fighters.  ISIS has offered to spare the lives of Sunnis who are soldiers and policemen who drop out of their government  job and serve ISIS.  Shi'a's are automatically killed.  They've already executed 1,700 Shi'ite soldiers, men serving for Maliki, the president of Iraq.   ISIS captured over 400,000 weapons; artillery shells, mortars, RPGs and AK-47s.  They robbed the Central Bank of Mosul and took $430 million in cash.  Then they released 1,400 prisoners in Mosul and a total of 3,000 from 3 sites.  They are now controlling the banks, police stations, military bases and 2 airports.

Under a death threat are the Shi'ite holy cities of Najaf and Karbala and their populations.  Shi'a populations in Baghdad and Samarra are also now threatened with death.  They are taking up arms and thousands are doing so to protect themselves.

The Iraq-Iran War of 1980-1988 seems to be playing out again.  In that war a half a million soldiers died.  In the end children were forced to fight each other.  The 2 schisms developed over an argument as to who was the leader when Mohammed died.  It goes on to this day.  They do not agree on interpreting the Koran and have their different views.  In talking to a Pakistani Muslim friend, his comment was that none of them are Muslims in his view-the Sunnis, that is.

Don't blame Israel for any of this fight.  The Revolutions taking place have caused the Shi'a to feel threatened by the money the Sunnis have been receiving from the Gulf states.  What started the Arab Spring, anyway?  Yes, we're seeing lots of change.

Obama is sending in from 100 to 300 soldiers to teach and guide Baghdad's soldiers to defend the city. they are military advisers.   They are not to mix in the fighting.  Kerry is also going over for talks.

Hillary's Anti-Israel Choices

Nadene Goldfoot

Before Hillary  married Bill on October 11, 1975, she was a part of the left who were for the Palestinian cause and were condemning Israel.  Hillary told friends that she was "sympathetic" to the PLO and admired Yasser Arafat.  When he spoke to the UN General Assembly in November 1974 wearing his revolutionary uniform and his holster on his hip, Hillary  told Bill that Arafat was a freedom fighter who was trying to free his people from their Israeli oppressors.  So that's what she really thinks about Israel.

Yasser Arafat, leader of PLO Terrorists ( August 29, 1929-November 11, 2004)

Christopher Anderson tells in his book on page 50, American Evita, about their trip to Arkansas in 1973 that is very telling.  Bill took her to visit a friend and Hillary noticed a menorah on their front door.  As soon as she saw it she refused to get out of the car to meet him.  He was a political friend of Bill's , but apologetic about the menorah, telling Bill that his father was half Jewish who wanted him to remember his roots.  I cringe at hearing that and feel for his father.   Bill explained to his friend that Hillary was really tight with the people in the PLO in New York and that they were friends of hers, and she just didn't feel right about the menorah.  Feel right.  He meant she didn't like or didn't  want to befriend any  Jews.

Which reminds me.  Hillary's aide has been  Huma Abedin.  "Huma Abedin has 3 members of her family working for the Muslim Brotherhood in important positions.  She has been an aide to Hillary Clinton and works in the State Department with her.  She had married Anthony Weiner and both were family friends of the Clintons.  This is another connection to the Muslim Brotherhood outlook on dealing with Israel.  Is there any question as to why Israel has been treated so rotten by both Obama and Hillary now? "   Hillary didn't have to deal with Weiner, though she knew him as a Jewish "friend."  He must be extremely leftist more than anything.   Hillary has commented that Huma is just like a daughter to her.

Hillary's book has just come out, "Hard Choices."  In it she tells of her disappointment with Israel over the Palestinians living in Jericho she had seen with Bill in 1981.  She felt that Israel was not allowing them to have any dignity or self determination.  This comes after the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel was attacked by the Palestinian's brothers, the states surrounding Israel who wanted to drive Israelis into the sea and destroy their state.  They attacked purposely on Yom Kippur, the Jews' holiest day of the year when they were fasting and praying and asking G-d for forgiveness of any sins they may have committed.  Israel at that time had been coming under attack by Palestinians who were PLO terrorists led by Yasser Arafat. This comment shows me how little Hillary knew or understood about what was happening.  She certainly wasn't thinking about the Jews' lives, but only about the Palestinians and how they felt.

As I started researching, because this lady might be running for president, I wondered whatever caused her to be so harsh against Israel.  What other things have happened to point this up, or was this a one and only occasion of harshness.

In the same book on page 317, she wrote that East Jerusalem had been captured along with the West bank in 1967.  Wrong again, Hillary.  She is not accurate in her history account.  It shows her bias.  Israel never captured Jerusalem..  Jordan did in 1948 when it had been decided by the League of Nations and the UN that Jerusalem was to go to the Jews.  Israel defended itself in 1967 and in doing so and winning this ugly battle, gained land that was theirs to start with, East Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria.  It should be a lesson to those who attack others.

Jerusalem is precious to Jews.   This is because of our long history with Jerusalem.  Our population there shows it.  The population from 1844 to 1948 shows that Jews were the majority.  When Jordan grabbed it illegally in 1948 , they kicked out the Jews.  The only reason the Palestinians want East Jerusalem for their capital of Palestine is because they don't want Israel to have it.  They have no religious connection to this city, but Jews do, big time.

Incidentally, the name, West Bank was given to Judea and Samaria by Jordan, who took this land in 1948 after it had been said to go to Israel.  In 1947-48 Israel was fighting the whole neighborhood in the War of Independence.  November 29, 1947 was when Arabs responded with violence to the UN resolution on Palestine, and the war lasted until the signing of the Armistice Agreements in 1949.  Israel refers to the area by their ancient names.  Samaria was the capital of Judea, and it also includes the surrounding land.

She chides Israel because their loss of lives has been less than Palestinians in attacks.  With her logic, the USA is at fault because a lot of al Qaeda terrorists have died than were killed in 9/11.  She doesn't know anything about the 2 different people she is comparing.  Life is of utmost importance to Jews and Jews protect life by  through the teachings of their Judaism, their training, and their skills.  L'chaim, to life, is our toast.  Preserving life is of utmost importance.  Israel doesn't even have the death penalty.  Only on such an occasion as mass murdering such as Eichmann did can someone be put to death.  The Palestinians are known to hide behind their women and children, keep their ammo in schools and mosques, and use the number of their deaths proudly as a weapon against Jews, so they don't mind the numbers.   Palestinian mothers sacrifice their children to the cause without a blink of the eye.  They are dealing with a different mind-set that has developed out of their desire to do Jews in.  They gladly die in a war because their reward is 72 virgins.  I guess they figure any man would die to get something like that.  That's how we lost the Twin Towers.

Hillary referred to Israel as practicing apartheid towards Palestinians on page 312.  She inferred that the Palestinians would soon have a bigger population than the Jews because of her thought that they had a higher birth rate and that they would be relegated to 2nd class citizenship and would not be able to vote.  John Kerry shares her thoughts.  Who thought it up first probably is Hillary since he has since backed off of this.  This is a slap in the face to Israel.  The most democratic state in the middle east, Israel, even tops the USA in allowing all people full citizenship and has Palestinians in every facet of the land, except for one thing.  They have not expected them to serve in the IDF unless they wanted to for obvious reasons.  Today, there are such groups.  Israel is the only pluralistic society in the Middle East.  Saudi Arabia doesn't allow Jews to tread on their land.  Qatar, Hillary's favorite Middle East state, sponsors Qaradawi, a famous Muslim religious leader who wants to kill Jews with his bare hands.

Apartheid accusations hurt Israel in other fields.  In the peace talks, blame was said to be equal but more criticism was aimed at Israel.   Coming down on Israel over house building on land that was theirs legally, after waiting for 66 years for peace, only feeds into the Palestinians goals of yanking the chain against Israel in the first place.  Israel had followed everyone's wishes and had stopped building for 10 months with the promise of a continued peace talk, and it led to nothing, only delay in building.   Then again, the USA demanded that terrorists be let out of prison because the Palestinians so desired it, and if they had  been in the USA they would have been given the death penalty.  In the end, Hamas and Fatah are now a united government, thanks to USA meddling.

In November 1999, she appeared with Yasser Arafat's wife, Suha, who made a slanderous allegation about Israel. She ranted and raved that Israel had used poison gas on the Palestinian people.   She was lying of course and Hillary's reaction was just silence about it, no comment that it couldn't be true, gave her a hug and kiss when she finished as if to say, good job.  Later, there was clamour from the media about it which put her on the spot and she retorted that all people should "refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and baseless accusations"  including Israel, who hadn't been guilty of dong it or accusing anyone.  Oh but that Israel-they'd better watch it, she was needling.  Years later, Hillary commented in defense of not denouncing such lies as "the translator screwed up."

Another favorite Middle East state is Dubai.  It's a Jew-hating terrorist supporting nation.  Bill and Hillary are making "mega dollars" from them  Dubai is a leader in boycotting Israel. It is the business side of terrorism.   The Clinton Foundation has established Dubai Study departments in universities in the USA and London.  They are working hard at granting legitimacy to this rich state.  The very poor Clintons made $10 million a year from the Yucaipa, a Dubai firm.  Ron Berkle, the owner, was a major fund-raiser for both Bill and Hillary.

Saudi Arabia is not left out.    The Saudi Royal Family donated $10,000,000 to the Clinton Library.  Saudi Arabia is the word's biggest exporter of terrorism.  Remember who flew into the Twin Towers?  Bill is the one with connections here with Prince Turki bin Feisal who sent to college with him.  While a governor, he got the Prince to donate to a Middle Eastern studies program at the U of Arkansas.  The first $3.5 million came in 1992 and another $20 million came after his first inauguration.

Oh yes, Hillary has been known to voice a support for Israel in her Senate years.  Why after such a history?  She needed the Jewish vote found in New York.

The real Hillary showed up as soon as she left the Senate to be the Secretary of State.  She ignored a deal with Israel and called for the end of the construction of new homes in existing neighborhoods.  She demanded the "settlement" freeze in 2009 and was backed up by Obama.   By doing this she was telling Israeli parents that their married children couldn't live in their own neighborhoods. By her demanding a building freeze, she broke a US/Israel agreement made during the Bush administration.  Elliot Abrams negotiated this agreement and commented that her denial of it is not true.

Talk about the power of Big Brother!!!   I believe that Israel had every right to finally build on their own land they had won in 1967.  The building was telling the Palestinians to forget about that land as a state if they didn't hurry up and sign a peace pact like Jordan and Egypt had done.  By acting like the world's leader, the USA undid this nudge to get real and become peaceful or they would lose all.  The USA shouldn't have included Jerusalem as something of less value to Israel.  They constantly berated the Jewish state with deference to the Palestinians, which gave them power.  A written offer from the PA never came to the Israelis as she promised. Netanyahu wanted offers on paper as any oral deal wasn't worth anything.   What Hillary had done in this case was to make commitments when talking to Netanyahu, but later wiggled out by claiming that she had not been speaking for Obama, who did not give  his approval to her promises.

She made complaints about Jews and Judaism in Israel in 2011 when speaking at the liberal Brookings Institute.  She saw that females weren't singing in the IDF along with males and noticed women didn't sit with men on buses.  This had to do with Israel's accommodations made to the Orthodox communities, which is Israeli business, not Hillary's business.  Did she talk about the bombing from Gaza onto the civilians of southern Israel?  No.  She was concerned about religious stuff.  She even compared the Orthodox to Iran.  On hearing about the bus with women and men separated, she yelled that it was just like Rosa Parks, whereas these Orthodox Jews did have their reasons other than discrimination.  It's a lot different.   What galls me most is that we handle things so differently.  In Iran women would have been beaten or executed for singing with them.  In Israel they sang but those that felt it wasn't right just walked out until it was over.  She looks for things in Judaism to find fault with.  Why?    Does she think Jews don't speak up or can't handle their own affairs and that they need her?

Clinton's statements were part of an attempt by the Obama administration and Hillary's State Department to de-legitimize the Israeli  democracy.  They have been trying to destroy why Americans supported Israel, in that it was the only democracy in the Middle East.

Hillary is talking a lot about becoming a grandmother, more likely to make a connection with the public and to gander future votes.  Chelsey married the  Jewish Mark Mezvinsky who doesn't seem to be all that together in his new role of husband and soon to be father.  Bill is not happy with Chelsea's  choice at all.  Mark's mother is a politician and had been in the Pennsylvania congressional seat and then lost it.  She ran again in 1994, and of course is a Democrat.  I wonder how cozy the two mothers will become.  I vision problems ahead.

In 2008 Barack Obama ran as a friend of Israel.  If you're aware of facts, you will see he has not been.  Sorry Democrats.  If Hillary runs for President she will campaign that she is a friend of Israel.  In fact, she was the architect of the policy of the most anti-Israel president since the rebirth of Israel in 1948.  She has held anti-Semitic views during  her life.  She only cooled it when she spent 9 years running for and holding the office of US Senator from New York.  Frankly, I think her hard choices about Israel came to her quite easily.

Star of David: Brightest Star in the Middle East

Nadene Goldfoot

Israel, whose icon is the Magan David, the Star of David, 2 inverted triangles creating a 6 pointed star, leads the way with its light to show the world how to treat each other and live together.  In Kabbalah, " the fact that in a triangle each of the 3 corners are connected to the 2 other ones demonstrates that the Jewish soul is itself knotted to G-d.  Torah study and observance doesn't create a connection between the Jew and G-d---it merely brings it to light. "  In Exodus we learn that we were to be a nation of priests, teachers of the Mosaic Law.

If you examine the population of Israel, it's made up of 80% Jews and 20% Muslims with some Christians and possibly another religion or two.  Israelis follow  the Ten Commandments, which is a basic part of Torah.    Citizens live  in a safe environment with freedom of religion.  That means that killing someone is against the law and leads to prison. No honor killings.   Stealing is also against the law and leads to the same place.  It's not hard to follow the rules.

Israeli law is basic and makes up  a normal society.  For the Jewish people, coming from such a society that is so old and based on the Mosaic Law, it's overloaded with lawyers because they're interested in justice, and doctors because life is of utmost importance.   You find in Israel that people are aware of and are very concerned about what's right.  A land where many can trace their heritage to King Solomon the wise,  the people are blossoming once again.  Their inventions are benefiting the whole world.  They lead the world in creating businesses.

One big difference I see between Israel and its neighbors is that about half of the Jews of Israel come from a European period of living there.   They've been exposed to the Western world.  They are more cosmopolitan in their thinking.  Then, there they also experienced the slaughter of their family where they lost 6 million, so they have developed a distrust of the motives of other people.

Everyone is family in such a small state.  It's easy to have developed empathy for another person.  It's led to the most diverse of thinking in the political arena from extreme leftists to extreme rightists.  Peace Now has had its day.  Now Netanyahu is leading because of the need he offers in protecting Israel's citizens from harm.  As president Chaim Weizmann once said, he was a president of a million presidents!   One can see that Israel is a free nation,  for its people  feel  secure and have become leaders, not followers.

This is what Israel has had to be most concerned about; being attacked by its neighbors.  From being told they had their Jewish Homeland from the Balfour Doctrine signed November 2, 1917 and given the okay from the most powerful Arab in Palestine, Abdullah, they dared to live in a hostile world of  the Middle East.  Much of the world today  is trying to extinguish the star that has kept  shining since King David's day who ruled 1010 BCE to 970 BCE, about 3,014 years ago.

The people of the Middle East  have the history of Muslim fighting Muslim because they are divided into 2 schisms; Sunni and Shi'ite which is leading to violent hatred and slaughter.  ISIS is slaughtering Shi'ites by beheading, shooting, and all without any honor to the dead.  They have one agenda, creating an old time caliphate where everyone will follow Sunni  Sharia Law or face death.

On January 5,  1980  the Iran-Iraq war between Sunni in Iraq and Shi'ite started  which lasted for over 8  years, supposedly ending in August.  Towards the end of the war, children were used as soldiers  as each side had lost so many men and were killed easily.  Now we have in 2014 the start of another round happening in Iraq with ISIS terrorists already taking much of the state and turning it into the start of their caliphate, something that existed from 630 till 1917 where Sharia Law will rule, not Christianity, and certainly not Judaism.  There is no longer any border between Syria and Iraq.  They have taken the land from the east of Syria to within less than 50 miles from Baghdad now.  The world is  watching to see what happens.  This fight over Iraq was possible because Shi'ite couldn't get along with Sunni in their state.  No doubt like American Republicans and Democrats, there is a lot of political doctrines that differ besides religious laws to follow that make up such a difference within the 2 groups.  ISIS isn't wasting time converting by force, either.  They just kill those that are different as the TV news clips have shown.

Muslims must be in wonderment as to how Israel is so tolerant and has the recipe for living together.  It was created as a Jewish State, yes, because it is the only state in the world where Jews can live without fear of persecution.  It is the only Jewish state in the world in the midst of 49 Muslim states which differ in their way of living, being the light shining in the dark.

In Israel Jews have freedom of expression of their customs and beliefs.  They can honor Saturday as the day of rest instead of Sunday. They are not expected to work on this day as they could be in another country.

They can speak Hebrew, their native language of so long ago that they have revived.  (It was Hebrew that was spoken by the common man, not Aramaic, as Netanyahu tried to tell the Pope recently who didn't listen). From "586 BCE, Hebrew started to be replaced by Aramaic."  This was when the Babylonians attacked Judah the 2nd and last time and took away the best leaders of the Jews. Jewish Aramaic developed.   Jewish Aramaic was different from the other forms of Aramaic both in lettering and grammar. Parts of the Dead Sea Scrolls are in Jewish Aramaic showing the Jewish lettering, related to the Hebrew script. Aramaic was also the original language of the indigenous people of Bahrain before Islam." However, the common man of Judah spoke Hebrew in their everyday living, not Aramaic.   "Hebrew had ceased to be an everyday spoken language by around 200 CE, " "Hebrew continued to be used for literary and religious functions, as well as a lingua franca among Jews from different countries."   So Hebrew continued as the spoken language in Judah over 100 years after Jesus had died.  We find that Hebrew and Arabic have many of the same guttural sounds, so it's easy to go from one language to the other for the natives.  The roots of many words are also the same, such as Shalom and Salaam which means peace, hello and goodbye.

They can honor their holidays in school by coordinating class time around holiday time, and no one will be kept from being able to attend synagogue on Yom Kippur because their boss won't let them off like I was treated in the USA.  I was told that the hunters had first choice of getting a day off and not me.  (Yom Kippur is a fall holiday when American gentile hunters get to shoot deer, and the value system thought that was more important than to let one Jewish lady have the day off. )  So don't tell me it's not anything special to have our own state.

Israel was never created to teach the Mosaic Law by force like Islam is doing or intends to do as they did in the past.  Israel was to be the shining light to show the way to a more godly way of living.  By example was the Jewish way, and it did lead to Christianity with Jesus teaching perfectly Jewish ideals about 1,350 years after Moses had taught them to his people.  Then again, Mohammad (570-632) , who was in and around Medina, a Jewish city in Arabia learned about our Jewish laws and thinking then and used much he heard in his Koran that he dictated to a scribe or scribes.   So Moses (1391-1271 BCE) taught the Laws around age 81-82 and Mohammad incorporated many of them about 2,000 years after the fact.  Jews are still living by them, a way of life to follow that are over 3,000 years old already.

Meanwhile, this is what Israel gives its people: " Declares basic human rights in Israel are based on the recognition of the value of man, the sanctity of his life and the fact that he is free. Defines human freedom as right to leave and enter the country, privacy (including speech, writings, and notes), intimacy, and protection from unlawful searches of one's person or property. This law includes instruction regarding its own permanence and protection from changes by means of emergency regulations".

Some of the light of the Star of David must have been seen by Israel's neighbors though, who are at peace with her.   Egypt has honored their peace treaty since Sadat's leadership  on March 26, 1979,  for the past 35 years.  So has Jordan, who signed their peace treaty on October 26, 1994, for the past 20 years. Now a battle rages between Sunni ISIS  and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki a Shi'a who has been the head of Iraq  since April 21, 2006.  ISIS is offering fear and destruction and death.

Shameful Hamas: No Honor Here

Nadene Goldfoot

Hamas now has access to Judea-Samaria being the USA and the EU recognized them as a state and they had already united as one government.  It's only taken one week and they have kidnapped 3 Israeli Jewish teenagers who attend a Yeshiva there, two 16 year olds of which one has dual citizenship with USA and Israel, and a 19 year old.  They are Gilad Shaar, 16, Naftali Frenkel 16, and Eyal Yifrach 19.  They were waiting for a ride home at night after their last class in a Yeshiva.   Israel's police and military are searching for them and the whole nation is praying for their safety.  Gilad Shalit was held by this group for over 5 years and it took the trade of 1,027 terrorists in Israel's prisons to free this one person.

""Suddenly, Hamas' cruel acts of terrorism were forgotten, their never-ending attempts to harm innocent civilians, along with the Hamas Charter, which calls for the total destruction of the state of Israel." Now, he (Netanyahu) wrote, "the international community has been given a second chance to correct its moral, diplomatic and strategic mistakes. Wall to wall condemnations of the kidnapping are called for, as well as placing responsibility on the Palestinian government, including the threat of taking physical, economic and diplomatic steps against it."

While we moan and groan over the recent episode of releasing of 5 from the USA prison for one American soldier who was breaking rules by being out of his assigned area at the time of kidnapping, we wonder about a "trade of 1,027 prisoners  for our young Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit,  who was released October 18, 2011– after being held for 5 years and 4 months, releasing mainly Palestinians and Arab-Israelis, though among the prisoners released there was also a Ukrainian prisoner, a Jordanian prisoner, and a Syrian prisoner."    For this country, to save a life is of utmost importance in their value system.  They are not people who want to take lives.  Perhaps it was time to release these particular 1,027 anyway.

Remember, Israel does not shoot and kill anyone when captured.  They are imprisoned.  In this they differ completely from their neighbors.  Collectively, these 1027 were responsible for the murders of 569 Israelis by terrorism.

What was bad was being forced to release  104 extreme terrorists in order to keep Fatah talking at the peace table by Kerry.  At the time, Israel had nothing but horrible murderous terrorists with a list of evil killings that they were forced to release.  In the end, Netanyahu kept back the 4th group of 26 and did not release them due to the way the peace was progressing.   I don't think Israel's government will ever do such a thing again.  We can now see the outcome of such moves.

All  day "Friday celebrations were held in Gaza and other Palestinian Authority cities. Video footage showed residents waving Hamas and PLO flags and distributing sweets, as jubilant music could be heard in the background."  This was done after finding out about the kidnappings of the 3 Jewish boys.

The  Palestinians did the same thing when they heard about the Twin Towers falling in New York and all the deaths.  "A group of Palestinians were filmed celebrating in the street in celebration of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the deaths of Americans. Fox News reported that in Ein el-Hilweh, Lebanon's largest Palestinian refugee camp, revelers fired weapons in the air, with similar celebratory gunfire heard at the Rashidiyeh camp near the southern city of Tyre as well."

Update: 9:38 am 6/15/14    Just found on Fatah's Facebook page:  Thanks USA and EU for rewarding Israel with such a nice neighbor.  You're just as much to blame for this as Abbas is.

Attacked and Threatened, Meet Israel and Its IDF

Nadene Goldfoot

An Israeli age 18 enters the IDF after a physical. Above are IDF soldiers of the Nahal unit, Pioneering Fighting Youth units who combine soldiering with pioneering.  They are given a few months of intensive military training and then are assigned for nearly a year to live in village communities.  There they get  job training in agriculture.  They are made up of men and women and more likely want to live in Judea and Samaria.  After their farm training they continue with advanced military courses including artillery.

Because of a continual conflict, kept up by the Arab States, Israel must maintain a highly trained defense system with modern equipment.  They must be an alert group of soldiers in order to protect life and property and meet any possible aggression.

There is no other state like Israel in the world that has faced such conditions that have gone on for 66 years without let up.   It sits on the crossroads of the world for starters, with a history that created the Bible, written by its own people.  It set down the ethics and rules of living with the Ten Commandments and has survived long enough to see much of the world turn against them nevertheless, either for reason involving religion,  power or jealousy.  The Judeo-Christian ethics stem from the Ten Commandments.

Ever since before 1948, they have had groups of their own defending the rest of their people in their Jewish Homeland.  Their army is called the IDF, Israel Defense Force,  who were established in 1948 during the War of Independence, when the 600,000 Jews were attacked from all their neighbors minutes after announcing their admittance to the family of nations through the UN as Israel.

Here is the IDF in Jerusalem at the Wall in 1967, the first time since 1948 that they could stand here.

The IDF was an outgrowth of the Haganah of other voluntary underground organizations that operated during the mandatory period, for nobody else was protecting them.    My 3rd cousin, Stanley Goldfoot, was the Chief of Intelligence of the Stern Group, one of them.  He was from South Africa and landed in Haifa after getting there on a ship who flew the swastika flag in 1933.  Coming from South Africa with a strong British accent, he found fellow Brits who held the mandate and were not protecting the Jews from attacks by the Arabs.  He became a defender.   Included into the IDF were also the veterans of the Jewish Brigade and other units  who fought with the Allies during World War II.

Men under 29 and women under 26 were called up for regular service of up to 36 months for men and 20 months for women. Doctors who are either men or women might be called up until the age of 34.   This was the rule in 1973.  Married women, mothers and pregnant women were exempted.  Women were also exempted on grounds of religious conviction after approval.  There are other citizens who are not Jewish such as the Druze and Circassians.  They are also drafted for service because of their declared decision desiring be be called like the other Jews.  Quite a few Muslims and Christian citizens also volunteer for service.  Within the  IDF one volunteers only to be a part of like becoming airmen, paratroopers and sea-commandos.  There are always more volunteers than are needed.

In Safed in 1981, I experienced having an IDF female assigned to getting the bomb shelter cleaned up and ready for use in our building.  It had become a playground area for some of the children of the building.  Animals were not allowed to enter at time of attack, so I wasn't going to find safety in there, being my German shepherd female, Blintz, had also made aliyah with me and would freak out if left alone with the sounds of sirens and rockets falling.  She accompanied me during my time of serving in the Civil Guard, and was more valuable to the group than I was.  I served once a month for about 3 hours, being driven in a van with others on duty.  Usually we had a real soldier with us who volunteered his time to do this.  My time of service was from 10pm to 2:00am.  I quivered when we had to stop and investigate anything, but I did hold a rifle and had some training with one.  How I was going to handle it flew out of my mind, so I had to depend on my dog who didn't like violence of any sort, even arguing with my husband.  My husband and I  were broken up in this service and were not to ride together.  I was the lucky one who got to take our dog.

When their period of serving in the IDF is up, they all are in the Reserves, which differs at least from the USA. In 1973 they were in the Reserves till age 55.  Today the age limit is 49.   This enables Israel to deploy at short notice a force large enough to meet aggression yet avoid the necessity for a large standing army.

I experienced this in 1982 when I lived in Safed.  It's when our forces had to go into Lebanon to finally stop the Palestinian PLO terrorists from attacking the Galilee.  Suddenly all the men were called up and disappeared from the school I was teaching in and from the streets.  I was called and asked to bake cakes for the soldiers who would be on foot getting to their destinations and would need coffee and cake doled out by volunteers as they met little stands set up with this food.  I envisioned 18 year olds getting a sugar high and thought, "This isn't very healthy for them."  Kids, who might be meeting their deaths, and I was worried about nutrition.  The job of baking kept me from shaking, an American, who had made aliyah in 1980 and had never experienced the tensions of  Israel and could barely speak any Hebrew.  One lady teacher took over the principal's job and we women kept teaching while the helicopters delivered wounded Israeli soldiers and the enemy to the hospital's roof across the street.  I witnessed a unit of old soldiers, all with white beards and in uniform, marching up the street in their job of protecting the city.  I cried in relief and wonderment.  Men were to serve in the Reserve until age 55, but these men had to be even older.  They didn't give up.  Women were in until age 34..  They did their milueem every year until age 40.  This was an annual training for 31 days, like the American Reservists that also do this.  Then they continued to do milueem until they were 55 which lasted for 14 days.  If one was a commissioned or non commissioned officer, they serve 7 extra days a year.

Of course the IDF serves in 3 areas, land, air and sea.  Women are found in all 3 areas but they serve as non-combatant personnel and replace men who are then made available for duty in combat formations.  At least this was the rule in 1973.  I see that in the USA today, women are on the front lines.

                                                Ole from Ethiopia
New immigrants (Olim) are drafted into the army.  My husband was 42 when we made aliyah but was called in for physical at about the age of 44.  He had served in the USA Air Force when young.  This time he didn't pass the physical because he had a very serious lung condition, Sarcoid.  It's hard not to pass Israel's physical requirements though.  We had another friend living in Safed, also from Portland, who did pass.  He was older and had a heart  condition, but he served and lived through it all.  I guess the doctors knew best after all.  At least  Dan knew how to shoot a gun, but we couldn't enter Israel with one.   We joined the Civil Guard and were issued  a gun from the armory by a 16 year old girl in slippers and bathrobe.   We were told not to get onto students who fell asleep in class because they most likely were on Civil Guard duty the night before.  Israeli teenagers are so much different than Americans because of reality.

Israel's foreign policy is based upon fundamental concepts:

1. Safeguarding the independence and security of Israel and striving for a lasting peace between Israel and the neighboring states.
2.  Peace must be founded on treaties achieved by negotiation between the parties and contractually binding.
3. Agreed secure and recognized boundaries will therefore need to be laid down.
4. Cooperation and specific solutions of problems that might hinder peace envisaged and the avoidance of aggression, direct or indirect must be assured.
5. Israel will discuss the conclusion of a treaty without prior conditions on either side with any neighboring state.  The government is alert for any expression of their willingness for peace with Israel and will welcome and respond to it.
6. Cooperation among the states of the region for economic and social well-being of all people is a primary interest for all involved.
7 If there is no peace treaty with a state, Israel is entitled to maintain the situation established by the cease-fire of June 1967 so that vital requirements of its security and development may not be jeopardized.

Israel is vigilant of all manifestations of anti-Semitism or neo-Nazism anywhere in the world.
Israel will perform its share in all efforts to secure recognition of the rights of every Jewish community in every land and regime to national, cultural and religious life without discrimination and the free exercise of the right of every Jew who so desires to leave to come to Israel.  This is because Jews were not allowed to get out of Russia and come to Israel and they weren't allow to practice their Judaism.  Synagogues were closed up by the government.  My Hebrew teacher in Haifa, Sarah who wrote our 2 textbooks, carried out teaching by mail to someone held in Russia's prison.  I learned about this in my class in 1980.

"After the ground forces’ failure during the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006, the army underwent an extensive process of training and preparedness. Its aim was to close most of the gaps exposed during the war, which were mostly a consequence of lack of training during the difficult years of the second intifada (from 2000 on).

In reality, though, this practice was stopped about a year ago. In 2014, the IDF is cutting training significantly and improvising solutions, in an attempt to prevent even more serious damage to the ground forces – both regular troops and reserves."
Wars Israel Has Had
War of Independence (1948–1949)
Reprisal operations (1951–1956)
Sinai War (1956)
Six-Day War (1967)
War of Attrition (1967–1970)
First Lebanon War (1982-1985)  This is the one I witnessed from Safed
First Intifada (1987–1993)
Second Intifada (2000–2005)
Gaza War (2008-2009)
Hillary Clinton wrote some nasty comments about Israel after a trip to Jericho in 1981 saying that Israel didn't allow the Palestinians to have the same feelings that  Americans enjoyed such as dignity, and that they hadn't allowed any self determination.   What did she expect?  She visited Israel in the midst of wartime.  The Palestinians were attacking Israelis.  In my opinion, she wasn't being realistic at all.  She should have seen the good that Israel had accomplished, and Jericho was a good example.
She has no idea of the affects people experience after being attacked  their whole lives.  I saw the affects on Israelis living north of us  during the 1982 Lebanon War who couldn't leave their bomb shelters for weeks.  Mostly former Americans living there, they really needed some psychologists to help them out.  A member of Hebrew Ulpan class was caught in a bomb shelter while on vacation and we didn't know what had happened to her.  This was in the days before cell phones.
I saw my junior high students curl up in the corners of our classroom during the War and sob.   I saw unwanted behaviors before and after from previous fears and much anxiety  during this period.  War affects people.   As for my affect, I'm very defensive about Israel.  I've experienced  what they're up against and what their attitudes are towards life are which I admire so much.   If there's any state in the world that deserves to continue to exist, it's Israel.

Update: 10:44am

US: Despite Rocket Attacks, We Support PA Government.

Why am I not surprised?  The USA is not defending it's main friend, Israel, or rather, Israel is no longer counted as its friend.

Eric Cantor: The One and Only Jew in GOP, Exits in a Loss

Nadene Goldfoot

Eric Cantor was, up until yesterday, the highest ranking Jewish member of Congress in its history and currently the only non-Christian Republican in either house.  A Jewish group who has been against him is the Democrat-dominated group, J Street.  They fight against him while professing to be for Israel.

Back on October 26, 2010, J Street Vice President for Policy and Strategy, Hadar Susskind, responded to Eric who was the House Minority Whip then, and suggested that under a GOP (Grand Old Party, meaning the Republicans) controlled House of Representatives, the annual Federal appropriations to guarantee Israel's qualitative military edge would be "separated out" from the broader foreign aid budget.

Responding to Israel getting some special treatment, J Street opposed separating aid to Israel and said it was being done to accommodate right-wing politicians who are ideologically opposed to foreign aid.

Susskind, a Democrat, as are most all  J Street members, went on saying that "US assistance to Israel can only maximize our ally's security when provided in concert with economic and military aid to other countries that enhances stability by fighting poverty and extremism in the region and beyond."  This is putting stipulations on Israel's aid when discussion and decisions were already granted to Israel about this, and then we have a Jewish group adding stipulations on their behaviors which were not complying with J Street standards.  So kind of them to allow aid to be allotted to Israel!  In not recognizing that Israel's problems are not like other country's problems, they are putting Israel in harm's way.

He went on.  "The foreign operations bill provides funding of US diplomacy led by the State Department, including the Middle East peace efforts necessary to Israel's future and to regional stability."  He must be thinking of such people as the John Kerry's attempts as Secretary of State and the peace talks.  But he is still ragging on Republicans, calling them the right-wing when he said that "This move reflects a troubling right-wing willingness to strain the decades-long bipartisan consensus on US support for Israel where doing so serves its own partisan purposes.  Here he shows he is more interested in Republicans getting more of what they want than in helping Israel. As a J Street member, he should be concerned about Israel but seems to be talking to Cantor only in a political argument between Republican and Democrat needs.

I agree with Cantor when he said that "Only a Palestinian mind-shift will bring peace."  I've been saying that right along, wondering why the Democrats were pushing Israel into a situation with people who just wanted to slaughter them.  That's the goal of Hamas, and Hamas and Fatah have united.  Hamas is the stronger, and are already taking Fatah members to task to join up with them in the fight, and that now they are in a better position to do so.  I suppose J Street is thrilled that the USA (Obama's decision) to recognize Palestine is just wonderful.

I say that because today they are celebrating and hosting President Obama at the house of Paul and Joanne Egerman, J Street donors, in Weston, Massachusetts.  Of course all Democrats will be there which will include dinner and a photo for only $32,400 per person.  Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, Senators Michael Bennet, Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey are expected to attend.  They buy tickets to attend.  I can imagine what they will be talking about.

Yes, we lost a good man in this election that affects many issues that are being debated about such as immigration reform.  He had worked up to being the majority leader in the House of Representatives and is Jewish.  He had been traveling across the states and was rallying for funding and support for the GOP.

Eric Cantor was born in Richmond, Virginia to conservative Jewish parents, a state one thinks of having very few Jews. Jews there make up only 1.2% of their population with 95,240.  Virginia's population today is 8,279,884.    His mother was a schoolteacher and his father owned a real estate firm.  His ancestors immigrated from Eastern Europe, Russia and Romania and Latvia in the late 1800's and early 1900s like so many of us Jews living here in the USA.

His father became the state treasurer for Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign.  He attended a private school in Richmond in 1981 an enrolled at George Washington U in 1981.  In his freshman year he worked as an intern for House Repubican Tom Bliley of Virginia and was his driver in the 1982 campaign.  He got his MS in Real Estate Development from Columbia U.

There are 233 representatives and 45 senators in the GOP and now we have lost the only Jewish person.   Eric has been an important  pro-Israel voice in the House and a leader on security issues.  He's worked on sanctioning Iran.

A J Street member, Dylan Williams,  said that Cantor's departure is proof that the Republican party may never be able to attract Jews.  He's saying that Cantor's loss in the election is indicative of this.  "Cantor has been the lead or co-lead on many resolutions that express support for Israel, but jeopardize the Jewish and democratic future by undercutting efforts for a 2-state solution."

This is the phoney line they sing continually, not giving Israel the right to decide for themselves what is best for them.  After all, J Streeters live in safe USA while Israelis are putting their lives on the line by living in Israel.  They want to live in the society they have built and have showed how just and good it is.  They can't give into everything the Palestinians want that will jeopardize their future existence like what has been presented to them.  As usual, J Street is only thinking of their own American political future.

On the other hand, Nathan Diament, executive director of the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center, said that Cantor is "a friend and has been a critical partner" for the Orthodox community in both Israeli and Jewish-American issues.

The winner in this election is David Brat, a college economics professor, who probably won on his stand about immigration reform.  This was a sensitive issue for Cantor, whose grandparents came from Lithuania/Russia and who had fled anti-Semitic persecution which happened to most of our grandparents.  My own grandmother had her legs broken in a pogrom.

What happened to Eric is that the Jewish Social Justice Roundtable, a network of 26 organizations, suggested that Cantor remember his Lithuanian heritage before blocking progress on immigration.  This issue has infuriated the Republican base.  It looks like some of the Republicans turned against him for this.   By losing, he lost the opportunity to have succeeded Representative John Boehner of Ohio as Speaker of the House.
