Politics in the World Health Organization works against Israel just like it does in the UN's main body. A recent vote against Israel was 104 to 4. that Israel alone in the world was a violator of health rights of Syrians in the Golan. The Golan Heights is not very far from Safed, Israel where I used to live. It has the hospital that serves all people, even those in the Golan. I"ve even been a patient there.
Look at the 104 countries and count how many are from the Middle East or are Muslim majority countries. .
Afghanistan; Albania; Algeria; Angola; Argentina; Austria; Azerbaijan; Bahrain; Bangladesh; Belarus; Belgium; Benin; Bhutan; Bolivia (Plurinational State of); Bosnia and Herzegovina; Brazil; Brunei Darussalam; Bulgaria; Chile; China; Congo; Costa Rica; Croatia; Cuba; Cyprus; Czech Republic; Denmark; Dominican Republic; Ecuador; Egypt; El Salvador; Estonia; Finland; France; Germany; Greece; Guatemala; Hungary; Iceland; India; Indonesia; Iran (Islamic Republic of); Iraq; Ireland; Italy; Japan; Jordan; Kazakhstan; Kuwait; Latvia; Lebanon; Liberia; Libya; Lithuania; Luxembourg; Malaysia; Maldives; Malta; Mauritania; Mauritius; Mexico; Monaco; Mongolia; Montenegro; Morocco; Namibia; Netherlands; Nicaragua; Nigeria; Norway; Oman; Pakistan; Panama; Peru; Philippines; Poland; Portugal; Qatar; Republic of Korea; Republic of Moldova; Romania; Russian Federation; Saudi Arabia; Senegal; Serbia; Singapore; Slovakia; Slovenia; South Africa; Spain; Sri Lanka; Sudan; Sweden; Switzerland; Syrian Arab Republic; Thailand; the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; Tunisia; Turkey; United Arab Emirates; United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; Uruguay; Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of); Yemen.
With these countries against her, Israel was the only country in the world to be labeled as the only violator of health rights in the whole world when its alleged victims were spotlighted by this annual assembly of the UN's World Health Organization.
This illustrious group which was founded April 7, 1948 in Geneva by 61 countries did things like stamp out smallpox in the world. They have been fighting against eradicating HIV, Ebola virus, malaria and TB. Lately, their Head of WHO had passed away so Margaret Chan stepped in to take his place in 2006 and has tenure.
Israel is a member of this group. Palestine-a state not yet formed with Abbas as it's future leader though he's about 80 now, has been an Observer in the UN of the National Liberation Movement. Abbas took over this terrorist group when Arafat, leader of the terrorists, died.
Cairo, Egypt is the closest regional office for WHO. The main headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland.
Jews, whose number in the world is only 0.02%, have one state, Israel made of 6 million Jews, the number killed in the Holocaust. They also have 1.7 million Arabs. This group of people have been known for their intelligence. Albert Einstein was Jewish. Every mother of Jewish children hoped in their culture that their children would grow up to be doctors. They were bright enough. When it came time to be admitted into medical schools in the 20s and 30s, many were turned down because they would have dominated the classrooms since their scores were all so high, much higher than other students, so places like the USA put in limits, and thus the Jewish doctors to be were kept away and only a few were admitted.
They filled their quotas, though, and so we have many Jewish doctors. One of our first important biblical commentators was Maimonides (1135-1204 of Spain). He went to Palestine and suffering from the Christian Crusades, the family went to Egypt. In the meantime he had become a doctor. In 1170 he became the physician to the viceroy of Egypt. When Maimonides (Moses ben Maimon) died, he was buried in Tiberias where his tomb still attracts visitors. Perhaps he set the trend for Jews to want to become doctors.
Jews tend to be hyperchondriacs, anyway. If we don't like the first doctor's diagnosis, we will go to a 2nd and a 3rd. Sholom Alecheim wrote a play called, "She Must Marry a Doctor" of which I helped to produce in Safed and I played the part of the mother of the girl who must marry a doctor. Actually, I did marry a doctor, myself. Jews and doctors are Siamese twins joined at the hip. Medicine and nursing are important. My son is a nurse. I disappointed my father by becoming a teacher instead. My father had wanted to become a doctor. My brother made it.
In Safed I lived only a block away from our hospital. As I taught in the junior high during our Lebanon crisis, I watched the helicopters carrying patients and landing on its roof with them. To read that the UN criticized Israel about its medical work is the last straw!
Israeli hospitals have been treating more and more numbers of wounded Syrians running to the Golan from the Assad regime's barbaric attacks, but the UN is even crazier than he is. This UN accused Israel of violating the health rights of Syrians in the Golan! Did anybody tell them what Syria has been doing to their own citizens? Please read my book, "Messages From a Syrian Jew Trapped in Egypt" and you'll see what they have been doing to whole cities at a time. I'm ready to sue WHO for defamation of character.
WHO is calling for assistance for the Syrian population in the Golan which is part of Israel. Those nations working with Syria just want to regain the Golan and need a foothold there. It's part of their take-over plot.
In the meantime, WHO ignores the countries of Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Iran, the many nations in Africa and Asian Nepal and Afghanistan where hundreds of children were kidnapped from their families to be trained to commit suicide bombings, or Pakistan where 132 children were murdered in their classrooms by Taliban terrorists, or how about the children beheaded by IS who happened to be Christians, or the children taken over by IS who are taught to behead and kill others? No, in the land of many doctors where the Golan citizens can go to Safed to my hospital and get medical care, they must send in the hordes for health-related technical assistance. The Arabs have not enough doctors as it is, and yet they will send in medics who know 1/10th of what Israeli medics know?
With their recent Civil War, Israel has attended the Syrian wounded found at their state border. Israeli hospitals have always accepted their wounded enemy and nursed them back to health. The Syrian wounded of over 1,000 civilians and soldiers were accepted without question or payment because nothing was offered in their country of Syria.
When I lived in Safed from 1981-1985, we were in the 1982 war with Lebanon and the enemy wounded were helicoptered to our hospital where my 9th grade boys of my English class acted as translators since they could also speak Arabic, and they saw the wounded, which they took as a pretty traumatic event at their age.
This WHO meeting must have been ridiculous. Saudi Arabia took the floor and denounced Israeli intransigence after Saudi Arabia had bombed Yemen and killed 1,850 Yemenis and wounded 7,394. There are 545,000 displaced there now, many of whom are desperate to find food. To top it off, the speaker beseeched all peace loving states to adopt the distorted and politicized resolution to damn Israel as the official violator of health!
At every national tragic event, Israeli doctors and nurses are Johnny on the spot at the scene and are giving aid before others' tents are put up. In Israel they haven't been given any finances for their assistance but have done it out of humanity's need. This is what Israel is all about; doing what's right to help the world, to repair the world, not to destroy it. Earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, you have found Israelis there helping the injured.
Who has called for next year's report to focus on the effect of prolonged occupation and human rights violations on mental and physical health, and particularly the health consequences of the Israeli military detention system on Palestinian prisoners and detainees, especially child detainees. I don't know of any children detained by Israel, though our enemy may practice such acts.
They are now using Israel's defensive measures against terrorism as a presumed cause of mental and physical illness. Do you know that most Syrians don't believe in psychology or psychologists? It's the Middle East, not westerners motivated in the sciences. At any rate, the mandate for the report ignores completely the actions by the PA, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and oh yes, IS. They haven't thought about taking that state-the Islamic State, on yet. And who is their king or president? Well, it's more likely that they are speaking for IS with the idiocy of the decisions.
If Israel were more like its neighbors, it would just have the death penalty and there wouldn't be any prisoners held in prison. Israel hasn't been occupying the Palestinians. Haven't they noticed:? Israel departed from Gaza long ago in the name of peace. The PA has been in charge of Judea and Samaria.
The Golan is not occupied. Israel Begin annexed it. Until 1967, it was under Syrian administration. Pending a peace settlement in which the borders between Israel and its neighbors will be decided, it was that of territories occupied during a war. Israel had not annexed any part of the areas. East Jerusalem was reunited in June 1967 with West Jerusalem. "
It was Syria's hard-line stance that Mr. Begin cited as an immediate reason for his action. He quoted a report in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai Al Amm on Sunday that President Hafez al-Assad of Syria had expressed the determination to refuse to recognize Israel "even if the Palestinians deign to do so."
WHO Headquarters main conference room, where vote of 104 to 4 occurred, singling out Israel as the only country in the world as a violator of health rights in the course of the year on May 20, 2015. |

The vote of 4 was from: Australia, Canada, USA and Israel. There were 6 abstentions: Armenia, Colombia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Paraguay and 65 were absent. Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will be actively lobbying to become president next year of WHO. Guess who was the leader in 2003. It was Libya's Qaddafi. Might as well put Assad up for the role. At least he's an eye doctor.
Here are some of the places that Israel has gone to give health services to or has helped out healthwise: :
1. Japan (As well as rescue teams, Israel supplied Geiger counters and Israeli thermal imaging cameras are monitoring the reactor cores – Mar 2011) Voted against Israel
2. Ghana (has been receiving technological aid from Israel since 2006; Israel is now providing neonatal units to save many of the 4,800 babies that die each year – Mar 2011) Absent vote
3. New Zealand (Israel sent several rescue teams, temporary shelters and water purification systems following the Christchurch earthquake in Feb 2011) Abstention from vote
4. Chile, whose rescued miners were treated to a tour of Israel as part of their “Pilgrimage of Thanks” (Feb 2011) Voted Against Israel
5. Vietnam, whose milk industry is being totally transformed using high-yield Israeli cows (Feb 2011)
Absent vote
6. Uganda (Israeli solar-powered refrigerators were provided to store vaccines used to eliminate an outbreak of Polio from the country in Jan 2011) Absent vote
7. Kenya (Israel’s Agency for International Development built a state-of-the-art Emergency Room in a hospital serving 6 million Kenyans in Jan 2011) Absent vote
8. The Maldives (although non-Islamic worship is banned here, Israeli eye-doctors performed free operations for citizens in Dec 2010) Muslim majority state-smallest of Muslim majority states except Cyrus voted against Israel
9. Philippines (signed major trade agreement with Israel in Nov 2010) Voted Against Israel
10. Romania (Israeli doctors treated babies following fire at a neonatal unit – Sep 2010) Voted Against Israel
11. Cameroon (Ophthalmologists from Haifa restored vision to patients and trained local medical teams in these procedures – Aug 2010) Absent during vote

15. China (a major purchaser of Israeli technology, and recipient of medical aid and training) voted against Israel
16. South Africa (Israelis trained their doctors to perform circumcisions to prevent the spread of AIDS – July 2010)
17. Haiti (Israel set-up the largest field hospital to treat victims of the 2010 earthquake, the hurricane and the cholera outbreaks and provided vital assistance for over a year) absent during vote
18. Sri Lanka (Israel conducted a massive airlift with food, 50 medical staff and rescue teams only 48 hours after the Tsunami in Dec 2004) voted against Israel
19. India (Israel sent an fully-equipped field hospital following Gujarat earthquake in Feb 2001) Voted against Israel
20. El Salvador (Israel relief aid following earthquake in 2001) voted against Israel
21. Georgia (Israel contributed food and seeds for farmers following severe drought in 2001)
22. Turkey (Israel relief aid following earthquake in 2000) Muslim, voted against Israel
23. Mozambique ((Israel relief aid following floods in 2000) Absent during vote
24. Colombia (Israel sent medical aid and food following earthquake in 1999) Abstained vote
25. Venezuela (President Chavez has forgotten Israel’s aid following floods of 1999) voted against Israel.
26. Central America (Israel sent emergency medical aid teams and equipment to help victims of Hurricane Mitch in 1998)
27. Pakistan (2005) and Peru (2007) both accepted aid from Israeli NGOs following earthquake disasters.voted against Israel
28. Peru’s hydro-electric power plants are also being built and run by an Israeli company.
29-34. Rawanda, Mexico, Chad, Sudan (Darfur) and Malawi all have received humanitarian aid from Israel, including medical assistance from Israel’s NGO IsraAID.
How can the UN keep a straight face and ignore Israel's health services to the world? "In more than two dozen recent cases, Israel has contributed to relief efforts after earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters. For example, Israel sent medicine, water, food and other supplies to Sri Lanka after the tsunami in 2004. The next year, Israel also sent humanitarian aid and equipment to New Orleans for victims of Hurricane Katrina. After the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Israel sent a comprehensive hospital team that set the standard for treating victims of a natural disaster in a speedy and humane manner." All this and giving aid to Syrians found on the border. One child was even born in the hospital. Now it may even have Israeli status. Really, this august body of people need a doctor themselves! I've got just the psychologist for you.
Update: Attacks have been happening in the Golan. "For nearly four decades U.N. monitors from the force have helped enforce a stable truce between Israel and Syria. But the Golan Heights has increasingly become a battlefield in the Syrian conflict, now in its fifth year." If the UN monitors find it dangerous now, why are they talking about sending in their own people if not to do a take over militarily?
