Ashkelon or Ashqelon, also known as Ascalon, is a coastal city in the Southern District of Israel on the Mediterranean coast, 50 kilometres (31 miles) south of Tel Aviv, and 13 kilometres (8 miles) north of the border with the Gaza Strip. The ancient seaport of Ashkelon dates back to the Neolithic Age.
Mt. Heron:15 miles of hairpin turns make the 5,400-foot ascent too treacherous during inclement weather, but when the resort opens, Israeli and foreign tourists flock to see the white powder. It shuts down when it snows.

The width of the country, from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Dead Sea in the east, can be crossed by car in about 90 minutes; and the trip from Metulla, in the far North, to Eilat at the country's southern tip takes about nine hours.
