How Israelis Feel About Killing The Enemies in Wars: Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, or Them Killing Jews?

 Nadene Goldfoot

The 7 American hostages held by Hamas, who are Palestinian Terrorists.   This week many Jews are openly celebrating the news of the death of two major terrorists -- top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukur in Beirut and Hamas’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Both have years of blood dripping from their hands, having masterminded the killing of over 200 American servicemen in 1983, the barbaric massacre of 1200 in southern Israel on October 7th, the kidnapping of 240, and the recent slaughter of 12 Israeli Druze children in Majdal Shams.

                                           Golda Meir (1898-1978)

"We don't want wars", Golda Meir stated, "even when we win." ) As to Israel's military successes, she responded:

"Our secret weapon: No alternative." She would also often use the statement: We have no alternative. Golda was always proud of her efforts, while Foreign Minister, in developing aid programs in Africa. She explained: "The only alternative to war is peace. The only road to peace is negotiation."This world of ours was not created to be the testing ground for the perfection of weapons to wipe us out .  At a 1969 press conference in London, she added: When peace comes we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons."

October 22 from Hamas claims:  More than 1,550 people have been killed in bombardment by Israel since it intensified its air campaign on Lebanon last month, according to an AFP tally updated with new figures released on Tuesday.  Lebanon's health ministry reported 63 killed in "Israeli enemy strikes on Lebanon" Monday, raising the death toll from an strike near a south Beirut hospital to 18. The real toll is likely to be higher due to data gaps.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he discussed post-war Gaza governance with visiting top US diplomat Antony Blinken on Tuesday, also expressing hope that the killing of Hamas's leader would help hostage release.

October 23, 2024: The Vicious attack on dancing young Israelis  of October 7th, which began with Hamas-led militants breaching Israel’s security fence on 7 October 2023—resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, mainly  civilians, visitors and the gathering of Israelis celebrating life;  and the abduction of 250 others—has led to extensive loss of life and devastation along Israel's side of the Gaza border.

Itay, 19 years old,  The only reason he was on duty that day was because he had switched weekends with another soldier so he could attend his brother’s Bar Mitzvah the following week.

Keith, 64 years old with his mother in North Carolina in Assisted Living.  She doesn't know what has happened.

The hostages are 1. Edan Alexander who was born in Israel but moved to USA when a few months old.  He was bar-mitzvahed in Israel.  Edan was on IDF patrol at a kibbutz on the morning of October 7 and called his mother after the Hamas attacks began. 2. Itay Chen, 19, is the youngest American hostage in Hamas captivity.  He died on October 7 defending civilians living in an agricultural area near the Gaza border. His body is still being held by Hamas.  He grew up in Netanya, Israel.  3. Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35, had been working in his machine shop 200 yards from his home when Hamas terrorists entered Kibbutz Nir Oz after sunrise on October 7. He left a daughter born in December after his death and the mother.  4. Gadi Haggai Z”L  Haggai, 73, died face down in a field as Hamas rockets streaked across the sky and terrorists stormed his kibbutz, kidnapping and murdering its residents.  Haggai, 73 was a retired chef, jazz musician, father of four, grandfather of seven, exercise guru, and pacifist. During his mandatory military service, he served as the first flutist in the IDF orchestra.  His wife is # 5. Judith Weinstein Haggai Z”L born in New York and raised in Toronto, Judi Weinstein Haggai, 70, made aliyah to Israel in 1976. There, she and her husband built a life around music, art, family, and healthy living.  6. Omer Neutra  22, another grandson of Holocaust survivors, was born in Manhattan a month after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, and more than a year after his parents immigrated from Israel. Omer decided to take a gap year in the country where his parents were raised – and stayed, opting to serve in the Israel Defense Force’s tank brigade.  When Hamas attacked, Omer’s team drove two miles to the border, where Hamas militants ambushed his tank with rocket-propelled grenades.  Is he still alive?  7. Keith Siegel , 64, originally from North Carolina, moved to Israel 40 years ago. He met Aviva, a kindergarten teacher originally from South Africa, and fell in love. They lived on Kibbutz Kfar Aza, close to the Gaza border, where he worked as an occupational therapist.

Israelis have gone to great lengths to keep their citizens and friends alive with bomb shelters everywhere.  Hamas benefits from their own people's deaths which they glorify as blaming the Jews.  They hide ammunition and their killers in tunnels, mosques, hospitals, homes, public places.  Face it;  we have an opposing viewpoint on life and death.

Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza has killed over 42,000 Palestinians, as reported by local Palestinian health authorities, who make no distinction between combatants and civilians. They always magnify the actual number.  The war has ravaged large parts of Gaza, displacing around 90% of its 2.3 million residents.

How big is Gaza's population? The Gaza Strip has almost exactly the same land area as Las Vegas but more than three times the population. There are approximately 2.23 million residents of the small territory. The war that started on October 7, 2023 has killed over 1% of the Gaza's population.  Here, the death total is only 1% whereas Palestinians claim 90%.  Israeli IDF has done as much as possible of an army to not take the life of civilians.  They announce their coming in many ways, fliers, speakers, etc, use pinpointing ammunition, etc.  do more to protect lives than any other army.

According to Jewish tradition and midrash, when the Egyptians drowned in the Red Sea during the Exodus, the Israelites were not supposed to cheer or rejoice over their deaths, as God himself would not want them to celebrate the suffering of others, even their enemiesthis is often interpreted as a message about not taking pleasure in the misfortune of others.

If Palestinians can die in battle, they believe they will receive 72 virgins in reward.  In life, the most perfect aim is for istishadi. Remember why Saudi Arabian pilots rammed into the Twin Towers of USA on 9/11?Opens in new tab

Istishhadi is an Arabic word that means "martyrdom," "heroic death," or "death of a martyr". It comes from the root word shahida, which means "to witness". In Islam, martyrdom is traditionally considered to be an honorable act) through jihad, and the martyr will receive bountiful gifts in paradise. Men will receive 72 virgins in the hadith corpus.   Hezbollah admitted they shot at Netanyahu's home with a drone attack, but no one was there.
Talmud page, Mishna in center.
However, in Judaism, the Mishna declares:  the Mishnah's original text of the famous Jewish idea that "whoever saves one life [...] saves an entire world" (Sanhedrin 4:5). According to the teachings of Maimonides (Rambam), "to save a life is to save a world," meaning that the act of rescuing a single human life is considered equivalent to saving the entire world, emphasizing the immense value placed on each individual life in Jewish tradition. This principle, known as "Pikuach Nefesh" in Hebrew, places the preservation of life as the highest priority, even superseding other religious laws in certain situations.
According to a report from The Program on Terrorism and Low Intensity Conflict at Tel Aviv University's Institute for National Security Studies, "In 2019, 149 suicide bombings were carried out in 24 countries by 236 suicide bombers, among them 22 women. In these suicide bombings, 1,850 people were killed and 3,660 were wounded." More than 80 percent of these suicide bombings were committed by Salafi-jihadist groups. The year 2016 had the highest number of suicide bombings on record.
