Are Obama's Personal Feelings Showing In His Handling of Israel?

Nadene Goldfoot

Just saying something is true doesn't make it so.  We're not all as naive as that, are we?  Caroline Glick points this out in her article, Barack Obama's Anti-Semitism Test.  He thinks Israel should go back to the 1949 armistice lines and he doesn't plan on backing Israel in the UN anymore.  He told Jews in Washington DC that this is his tough love when he spoke in their synagogue.

1949 and 1967 lines
Here he is with a very strong desire to wind up a deal that will empower Iran who has stated their intentions to destroy Israel over and over, and Obama keeps tells his voters that  HIS deal "will prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power."  This is the fear that Israel and many Jews hold-that Iran will try to attack Israel with their newly made atomic bomb, for all indications to us is that's their goal.

First of all, it would put them in the seat of power in the Muslim world as being the one to wipe out Israel, their main object of hatred.  They would be the kingpin of all.  In their power struggle going on right now, it would elevate the Shi'a group of Muslims over the Sunnis.

Golan Heights is part of Israel today.  Map not as up to date as expected to be.
Then they could deal with IS and lord it over them, who are also running a power race as the leading Sunni power in the world in creating a Caliphate of olden days.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright
Let's look at the make-up of Obama.  For 20 years he attended Jeremiah Wright's church whose main thrust had been anti-Semitism mixed up in their Christian religion.  He attended religiously, thinking ahead of his political goals and so did his wife when he married.  He says he never listened to the sermons.  What?  He was sitting there dreaming of becoming President?  No way.  He took it all in.  If he had disagreed he could have said something.  Was he shy in those days?  No, he wouldn't rock the boat even if he didn't believe it.  Right now Jeremiah's  thrust is White supremacy.

This is the main reason I didn't vote for him, being one of the few Jews that was affected by his attendance there and feared he would do something drastic, which he has.  This is one drastic example.  The March 2012 on Jerusalem was okayed by Jeremiah Wright who had announced his support.  "The “March to Jerusalem” was a massive campaign designed to send anti-Israel partisans across Israel’s borders and into Jerusalem. The National Conference on Jewish Affairs reported that Iran’s government was involved in the organization of the event and planned to send thousands of participants in caravans, whose schedules had been published by the Quds News agency." Israeli security forces battled Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem Friday, with reports of one Palestinian killed and dozens wounded.
The clashes came during demonstrations marking Land Day and the Global March on Jerusalem. Palestinians and Israeli Arabs hold the annual event to protest Israel's land policies.

This should be a lesson to them of not attacking Israel and not making peace.  They lose the battle and lose land.

However, Obama must have understood his surrounding admirers, since he shrugged this off.  Glick thinks this has hurt him.  I don't think so.  Most Jews in the USA are Democrats and followed this Democrat with blindfolded eyes by reelecting him again for a 2nd term.  He has done as much as one in his position would dare to do against Israel and it hasn't raised their eyebrows;  till maybe now, and he has explained  how he's doing the best for Israel with tough love at the Washington DC synagogue, Adas Israel Congregation, on May 22, 2015.   The gullible believe him, hook, line and sinker.

Caroline explained that the UN Security Council has seen the USA use its veto power to prevent anti-Israel draft resolutions from passing.  Obama and his associates are letting it be known that he will soon end this 50 year policy.  Many feel he will try to force Israel back to the 1949 armistice lines which are completely indefensible.  This is something already drawn up by the French.  Before Obama was pushing the 67 lines. By doing this, he's sided with the aggressors against Israel no matter how successful Israel has been in ending attacks.  He doesn't want Israel to gain ground as this is not helpful to the 22 Arab nations in the Middle East or the 48 Muslim Majority countries of the world.  One little Jewish state, smaller beyond belief cannot be there at all according to those who side with Muslims against a Jewish state  in the Middle East.

This armistice line came about in Israel's War of Independence:  1947-49.  As usual, the war was started by the Arabs, no doubt urged into it by Haj Amin al-Husseini.  They had refused to accept the UN partition resolution that the Jews had accepted as being better than coming out with nothing.  Israel's population was along the seacoast due to influences from the Ottoman Empire and where the Jews had been allowed to settle.  That's how the decision was made by the Brits in dividing the land.  The Jewish homeland originally of Judea and Samaria was selected to be the the Arab half by the UN dividers.  .

From the beginning of April 1948, units of Arab irregulars crossed into Palestine from Syria, Lebanon and Egypt to reinforce the local Arabs in their attacks upon Jewish communities.  They also blocked the main roads.  It was like a mob attack against someone.

On 14 May 1948, when the Brits pulled out and Israel then announced their state, the regular armies of Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and some from Saudi-Arabia invaded in attack against the Jews who had just announced Israel was now a state according to the UN.  They had no army.

1949 armistice lines
The next day the Arab leaders went wild saying things like they were going to massacre and exterminate all the Jews like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades.  Why?  The Ottoman Empire had lost against the Allies of Europe and the USA.  The land they had held was now going to be divvied up, and some of it that had been Israel and Judah was going to go back to the Jews of that day.  In their dithering, the British had given up 80% of it to the Arabs, Abdullah specifically, who created Transjordan, today's Jordan.  20% left was being divvied up between the Arabs and and Jews, and the Arabs had said NO-they wouldn't go for it because they wanted ALL of it.  Now, they knew that Jews had lived there since it had been overrun by the Romans in 70 CE and hadn't left, but never mind, they couldn't allow more Jews in the land to have a state. Jews had been the underdogs, the 2nd class citizens, called Dhimmis.  They couldn't come up with a state and not the migratory Palestinians.  Didn't the world hate Jews?  Wasn't the world anti-Semitic?

At this time, Israel had 650,000 Jews living there, 50,000 more than Joshua  had led into Canaan.  A miracle happened and the Jews with their domestic creations of fighting groups such as the Haganah-defense force,  who were poorly equipped, drove back the invading forces.  The Israeli army of about a day old penetrated into the Sinai peninsula in the process of driving out the Egyptian invaders.  6,000 Jews were killed in this War of Independence--more than in all the next wars combined.  They  died as an Israeli.

A truce was then called and negotiations for an armistice began.  In 1949, separate armistice agreements were signed between Israel and Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.  Each agreement was written with the purpose to facilitate the transition from the present truce to permanent peace. "The 1949 Armistice lines were drawn up, on the assumption that they would be temporary, and would be replaced within a few years by permanent borders."

Not having a crystal ball nor believing in such in 1949, nobody saw this coming that instead of leading to peace, the armistice agreement with Egypt would end after 7 years in another war.  The Agreements with Jordan, Syria and Lebanon remained in force for 18 years but also ended in war.

Egypt had tried to blockade Israel and had closed the Suez Canal to all Israeli shipping and the Tiran Straits at the entrance to the Gulf of Eilat to all movement of vessels to or from Israel.

The borders of Israel have been attacked by a policy of attrition with terrorist attacks designed to disrupt normal life in Israel.  As I write, a rocket or rockets were again fired into Israel from Gaza of which only Arabs reside. The Palestinian terrorists of Hamas and now Fatah pursue a policy of unceasing build-ups designed to attack Israel with rockets, missiles and mortars and now tunnels and kidnapping.

They refuse to recognize Israel's existence and will not recognize Israel nor have they given up wanting to destroy Israel.  They fight another way with the help of other Muslim nations and that is to bring about Israel's isolation in the family of nations using the UN.  They are behind boycotting Israel and the whole BDS movement  on the economic level.  They put out propaganda and pursue systematic policy of instigating hatred of Israel, distorting Israel's image by anti-Semitic stereotypes and by educating the young generation to a struggle whose objective is the destruction of Israel.

So Obama has a lot of audacity to expect Israel to go back to the 1949 lines in order to make it easier for the Palestinians to attack, for that is the end result of such an outlandish expectation.

He told Jeffrey Goldberg at The Atlantic that he wasn't anti-Semitic and included a definition, and then did something that was anti-Semitic. What he is proposing is most anti-Semitic.  He expects more from Israel than from any other nation, as if he were G-d himself.

Morsi and Obama
Let's look at Obama's behaviors.  His father's people in Kenya, Africa were Muslims, at least on and off at different times.   His paternal  grandmother is Muslim.  He was raised in Indonesia from ages 6 to 10 in Indonesian schools.  No wonder he enjoyed  Jeremiah Wright's church.  He only left it when Wright became a political stone in his way to the White House.  As soon as he was president he went to Cairo,  Egypt and made a speech, insisting that the Muslim Brotherhood had front row seats.  He showed he favored this Muslim Brotherhood backing Morsi as president of Egypt.  Morsi was the leader of the Brotherhood!  The Egyptians woke up and kicked Morsi out and suddenly Obama was withholding promised money to Egypt complaining that they weren't being Democratic.  No, they weren't, but it isn't democratic to stuff ballot boxes either with an outlawed group, and the Muslim Brotherhood had been outlawed back in Sadat's day.

"Iran has continued to reject all inspections of its military sites and has insisted that after a period of 10 or so years it will be permitted under any deal to fully restart its program with no limitations, "  but this is not deterring Obama's insistence in passing this deal.  However, John Kerry just broke his leg, his femur or thigh bone  in a bicycle accident in France and this might affect their completion, or not.  That wasn't timely for Obama.

Obama had advertised that he was for change and would bring change.  He did.  He gave the USA just what he had in mind.  Everything  has changed, even our standing in the world communities.   His style is waiting and letting nature have its way.  He doesn't make quick decisions.  Our previous presidents and leaders came to the forefront with a plan and an action.  The Twin Towers fell and 3,000 people died in an attack in New York and in Washington DC.  Our president reacted.  Rightly or Wrongly, he reacted with the information given to him, not some devious plan.   My question is, is this pulling away from Israel and making out like Iran is a friend in need for A bomb material some kind of coordinated plan?  It sure seems so.

I had to smile at Glick's line:  "According to Obama, Jewish values require Jews to prefer the interests of others  over their own interests in order to "repair the world."  I've wondered that myself as I see some American Jews not backing Israel with such groups as J Street over AIPAC.  In my opinion, J Street set the example for Obama by saying they are backing Israel while they are for opposite behaviors.

Yes, we have always been into such things as the Kabbalistic ideals of repairing the world, but good heavens!  The lives is Israelis and the struggle we've had waiting for 2,000 years to establish Israel is worth more than being put 10th on the list after people are dead and our 67 year old state is demolished.  With 14 million Jews in the world and being 0.02% of the world population, I wonder about out modern Millies of Judaism.  Pew research is showing the decline of Christianity with Atheism and Islam taking over in the USA by 2050 according to Fareed Zakaria this morning on CNN.  What do our 6 million Jews think will happen to them by then or do they even care?  They won't even be able to be Anusim (like the hidden Jews from the Spanish Inquisition of 1492) because those Jews wanted to remain Jews, and they did under horrible circumstances.

Armies attacking Israel 1948
The War of Independence against the attacking Arab coalition  resulted in the extension of the area of the state beyond the boundaries proposed by the United Nations.  It comprised the whole of the coastal plain, Galilee, part of Samaria, and the Negev, together with the new parts of Jerusalem and a "corridor" leading up to it.  The rest of the country--including the Old City of Jerusalem and virtually the whole of Transjordan-was annexed by the kingdom of Jordan and the Gaza Strip by Egypt.

The nature of the Israel was changed by the flight of most of its Arabs and the arrival of a million and a half (1,500,000) of Jewish immigrants who were expelled from Arab countries, extensive soil conservation, foundation of neighborhoods built, extension of irrigation plans, establishment of industries, etc.

Don't worry, Caroline, Israel will act in accordance with Jewish values as they have all along and will choose life even at the expense of good relations with the Obama administration.  That's what we always say, L'Chaim-To Life.  Israel won't allow their lives to be snuffed out because Obama trusts the Iranians to be honest brokers.  They know enough to have been the only country in the world to take them seriously when they have threatened Israel's life shamelessly.

We have a saying:  On 3 things does the world stand:  On Justice, on Truth, and on Peace. (Mishna, Avot.)
We haven't been shown any of these since our birth on May 14, 1948.

United Nations: Mankind's Wisdom of Solomon, Degenerated

Nadene Goldfoot

What started off as mankind's answer to the end of constant wars has debased itself.  The body of this group called the United Nations  has become perverse   and has degraded itself from the normal moral standards.  There's something radically wrong with a body of people who show such bias to one uniquely small state, Israel, and which has adopted 20 resolutions against it since last September and only 3 resolutions on other country-specific situations.  This has been going on since 1967.  Fighting against this is the only major state that supports this august body, the United States.

"Israel has been a close ally to the USA.  When there is undue focus on any one particular country in the UN system, it threatens to undermine the credibility of the entire system." It's credibility has been questioned for a long time.  The US taxpayer is supporting this system of unfairness.  Bathsheba Nell Crocker, Assistant Secretary can verify this.  The USA is making very slow progress in fighting anti-Semitic/Israel sentiment.  Do you think supporting the United Nations  is worth our money?  The US  is to pay 22% of the UN budget and 27% of the peace keeping budget.  "in 2009, Congress paid in full and addressed recent arrears. Obama had become president.  The new government asked that Congress continue to pay all that we owe the UN, and on time. The UN's 2015 budget for 2 years was $5.4 billion dollars.

What the UN seems to be doing is to delegitimize Israel.  The USA has had to intervene on Israel's behalf in many forums on hundreds of occasions.

It all started in April 1947 at the request of the United Kingdom which acknowledged its inability to implement the MANDATE, to help Jews create their Jewish Homeland.    What Britain  didn't admit to the UN  was that they had been helping Arabs to enter Palestine illegally but had been keeping the Jews out, even on the eve of the Nazi takeover of Germany and the attacks on Jews.   So  the General Assembly established a Special Committee on Palestine called UNSCOP.  This was to look into the question and submit recommendations.  Their report was the basis for the Assembly's Partition Resolution of November 29, 1947, which recommended the establishment in Palestine of both a Jewish and an Arab state.  Arabs responded with violence to the UN resolution and lasted until the 1949 signing of the Armistice.  The mandate was finished on May 14, 1948 and armies from Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon invaded with a contingent from Saudi Arabia.

When the Arab armies invaded Israel, no concrete help was afforded by the UN in implementing its own resolution to create a Jewish Homeland.  The UN mediators negotiated the cease-fire and armistice agreements supervised by a Truce Supervision Organization with headquarters in Jerusalem.

Haj Amin al-Husseini with Hitler
The Arabs refused to recognize the UN's decisions or the fact that the Ottoman Empire had lost in WWII meaning that the Allies had taken over the land of the Ottoman Empire which had been on the side of Germany.

Israel's application for admission to the UN was approved by the GENERAL ASSEMBLY on May 11, 1949.  Israel became a member of the many UN agencies.  Her most pressing foreign problems--those from relations with the Arab states surrounding her-have been repeatedly on the agendas of the UNs main organs.

Israel-Arab relations reached a climax in the fall of 1956 with the SINAI OPERATION.  This war lasted from October 29th until November 5, 1956.  On March 1, 1957, Israel-under pressure- agreed to withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip and Sharm-el-Sheikh with the reservation that it would exercise its right of self-defense under the UN Charter if its ships were again interfered with in the Gulf of Akaba.

In the meantime, Canada sponsored a resolution that was adopted on November 4th and the Secretary-General submitted a plan for the creation of a UN armed force called UNEF to  secure and supervise the cessation of hostilities which was adopted.

The UN busied themselves at times with Israeli complaints against the Egyptian blockade in the Suez Canal.  A Security Council resolution of September 1, 1951 called upon Egypt to end the blockade.  There were proposals to redraw Israel's boundaries to conform to the 1947 Partition Resolution by the Arab states and of course rejected by Israel.

May 1967 the Egyptians demanded to have UNEF troops withdraw and they did immediately.  The Arab army attack causing the Six-Day War lasted from June 5th to June 11, 1967.  The Egyptians had 90,000 men and 900 tanks lined up ready to attack.  The UNEF were not there to act as a barrier between Egypt and Israel.  The Arab states formed a war pact against Israel.  Jordan, Iraq, Syria and Egypt and the PLO.  Israel waited for 3 weeks from May 15th for international action to stop the escalation but the Great Powers and the UN were just watching.  War broke out and Israel destroyed the armies that had massed. This war brought nearly 1 million Arabs under Israeli military administration in the areas occupied by Israel.  East Jerusalem wass annexed and Jerusalem was reunified as one city again.  Pending a settlement, Israel had regarded itself as responsible for the welfare and security of the population in the administered areas.  When the PA (Palestine Authority)  took over, their welfare went downhill.  Facts are facts.  They were ruling themselves but the PA is and was corrupt.

Memorial for 1973 Yom Kippur War
Israel of course was defending itself from being wiped off the map as its enemies proclaimed and to save their own lives.  Since then its objectives have been to have peace within secure borders.  It has only had armistice lines and cease-fire lines and has been seeking borders which will be defensible.  That means they need borders that will not constitute a temptation to a potential aggressor as the pre-1967 lines were.

Hamas terrorists
Since then the Arabs went to Khartoum in August 1967 to a Summit Conference and they came back with 4 principals that the UN must deal with:
1. No peace with Israel
2. No negotiations with Israel
3. No recognition of Israel
4. Insistence on rights of Palestinian people IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.  (The wording of this makes it insoluble since they have never had their own country.  They had been living in the Ottoman Empire which the Turks, who had it, had lost it.  There never was a country of Palestine.)

Discussion of the Six Day War in the UN lasted until November  when they passed a resolution in the Security Council of 242 on November 22, 1967 telling the Arabs to end their belligerence with Israel and for Israel to withdraw its troops.  It called for a just and lasting peace in which every state in the area can live in security.  It called for the withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict. It was not worded to say from all territories.  The Arab governments and their supporters have tried to interpret the resolution as though it required a complete withdrawal.

The mission of the UN Mediator, Ambassador Jarring, came to an end in February 1971 when he submitted a proposal that Israel should withdraw to the former international boundary between Egypt and the British Mandated territories of Palestine.

From this point, Israel has had little faith in the UN where an anti-Israel bloc of votes was ensured.  The Arabs were able to have extreme anti-Israel resolutions automatically passed in the General Assembly.  A War of Attrition went on from 1968 to 1970 where the Arabs were trying to wear down Israel's determination to accept nothing less than peace with secure borders.  This attack went on about the entire cease-fire lines, but mainly along the Suez Canal and the Jordan River.  Sporadic terrorist operations of the PLO in the administered areas and inside Israel continued.  They failed everywhere to wear down Israel.

Moshe Dayan, Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin in Jerusalem

Massive bombardments by the Egyptian army didn't cause Israel to stop guarding along the Canal.  Israel responded with commando raids deep inside Egypt's territory.  In September 1970 President Nasser of Egypt died.  Sadat took over.  In 1971 proposals were made for a special arrangement for opening the Suez Canal.  In 1973 Sadat started the Yom Kippur War on the Jews' holiest day of fasting and atending services in synagogues.

Arafat 1974 at UN speaking

In 1977 he initiated a peace process with Israel which included his visit to Jerusalem and addressing the Knesset.  In 1979 he signed a peace treaty with Israel at Camp David and then was assassinated by Moslem extremists while reviewing a military parade in Cairo in 1981.

The Arabs were able to have extreme anti-Israel resolutions automatically passed in the General  Assembly.  In 1974, Yasser Arafat, chief of the  Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), was invited to speak to the UN.  In 1975 an anti-Israel motion was put through describing Zionism as a form of racism.  It wasn't annulled until 1991.

The Jerusalem question was constantly debated in the UN.  the 1947 Partition Resolution had proposed the establishment of an international regime for Jerusalem to be administered by the UN Trusteeship Council.  The General Assembly's resolutions on this subject in December 1948 and  later were rejected by Israel.  Remember, Israel won an attack by all the Arabs in 1967, gaining back Jerusalem's eastern section from the attacking Jordan.  All of Jerusalem was expected to belong to the Jewish Homeland in the first place with the acceptance of the original UN voting.

The Arab refugee question was also debated all the time in the UN.  There were refugees in the first place because the attacking Arabs told them  to get out of the way and go and give them room to take over Israel when they attacked in 1948.  They went and then never came back, following their Arab leaders' orders to live in refugee camps.  They're like pawns in a game of chess; they can be sacrificed.  So the Arab leaders were then requesting full rights of repatriation.  Israel had Arabs living with them who did not heed their leaders' call to leave.  They remained and were now full Israeli citizens.  Israel felt that those that left should then be resettled in the neighboring Arab states where they were.  To make this discussion harder was that the Arabs refused to sit together with the Jews.

Jews in other parts of the world were more concerned with UN activities in other subjects such as safeguarding and promoting human rights.

During 1971 and 1972, Egypt demanded the Soviet Union  give them weapons.  They hoped to change the balance of power in their own favor.   The Russians refused.  In July 1972 Sadat expelled the Soviet military personnel from Egypt.

Golan Heights

Between 2009 and to the middle of 2014, Israel was criticized in more than 30 (Human Rights Council (HRC) resolutions.  During this period  Syria had only 13, Iran 4, North Korea 4, Libya 4, Burma 4 and Sudan 3.  Israel is the only Jewish nation following Jewish law which consists of the laws creating human rights.  I dare anyone to show how their country is doing better in this than Israel.  The thing that other religions backed off from in following Judaism is that they had so many laws-and these concern creating human rights and teaching people to have empathy for life, life of all-both animals and humans and the love and respect of the land.  What other country in the world has a law that says the land gets to lie fallow and recuperate every 7 years?  What workers get a year off every 7 years?

One problem in the UN is that votes against Israel are adopted with big majorities because the council's composition limits the number of liberal democracies while countries in Asia and Africa together have an automatic majority of 26 seats out of 47.  We're outnumbered!

The council is made up of some of the world's most repressive regimes.  Current members are Cuba, China, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Vietnam.  The historically anti-Israel Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the OIC, block has great power.  You must cooperate with them or else.  It sounds like the Mafia of the Middle East.

In the General Assembly, they have 119 members of Non-Aligned Movement and this together accounts for just short of 2/3 of the total membership.  This bloc includes countries hostile to Israel for religious and political reasons.  It's current chairman is Iran!

Our brave European democracies frequently abstain instead of vote against the anti-Israel resolutions. They are no help at all.  Last July, the HRC had a resolution against Israel to establish an inquiry into Israel's military offensive against Hamas in Gaza.  Remember that it has been Hamas who forced Fatah out of Gaza, took over and have been attacking Israel every minute.  The voting to look into how bad Israel is was 29 to 1 with the US the only NO vote and 17 members, mostly Europeans, abstaining.

The General Assembly adopted a group of Israel-focused resolutions in one day last December.  The USA was joined by just a small handful of other countries in its opposition with the vote of    158 to 8;  159 to 7;  166 to 6;  165 to 7;  165 to 7;  88 to 9;  and 163 to 7.  This against Israel, not Iran!!

Brits held mandate over Palestine for 30 years; job was to help Jews create Jewish Homeland.  Instead, they hung Jews, put them in prison and aided Arabs into country.  Now they refuse to stand with USA in defense of Israel in opposition to Arab votes.

Countries voting on that day with the USA defending Israel were Australia, Canada, Micronesian Pacific island states, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Palau.  My, they must be smaller than Israel.  Shame on England.  They weren't in the group.

Palestinians Steal Jewish Mantra About Jerusalem

Nadene Goldfoot

Such chutzpa!  Saying that Jerusalem is the eternal city of Islam.  Hamas killers are now declaring that Jerusalem is the "Eternal Capital" of the Islamic world.

David, King of Israel,  ruled from 1010 BCE to 970 BCE, capturing the city in 1010 BCE.    Mohammad died in 632 CE, 1,600 years later.  Jerusalem is in the Judean Mountains, part of the land of the tribe of Judah which was part of the land of Israel and then the land of Judah.  David made Jerusalem the religious center of Israel by transferring the Ark of the Covenant there.  His empire reached from the Red Sea to the Euphrates.  Religious activities centered in Jerusalem.

Jews have been saying that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Israel!  It was King David who built it and used it for his capital.  It is Jerusalem that Jews have prayed for 2,000 years to return to in Psalm 137 when they were in Babylon by saying: "O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill.  Let my tongue adhere to my palate if I fail to recall you, if I fail to elevate Jerusalem above my foremost joy."  Babylon's Nebuchadnezzar had captured Israelites and took them to Babylon in 597 BCE and again in 586 BCE.  The Persian, King Cyrus, allowed them to return after 50 years.

Jerusalem 70 CE being burned by the Romans

Romans invaded and their rule was unbearable, causing the Jews to revolt in 66 CE. In 70 Jews saw Jerusalem burned by the invaders and many fled.   General Bar Kochba fought the Romans for 3 years from 132 to 135 and Jerusalem was liberated until he was killed in 135.  Then it was turned into a Roman colony and Jews were told they could not enter upon pain of death.

It then became a Christian city under Constantine.

Mohammad died in 632 and by 638 the city fell to the Caliph Omar. No one really loved or cared for the city which was the center of Judaism.  In our Jewish Bible (Old Testament) Jerusalem is mentioned 669 times, Zion, which refers to Jerusalem and Land of Israel are mentioned 154 times and this adds up to 823 times.  In the Christian Bible, Jerusalem is mentioned 154 times and Zion 7 times.

Tower of David
Israelis have said that Jerusalem shall always be undivided.  Palestinians notice what works for Jews and then copies it.  Too bad they haven't done this in trying to build a more secure state for themselves by making peace with Israel and become workers and not killers.

It's like the situation that King Solomon faced when two ladies brought forth one baby and each lady claimed it belonged to her.  King Solomon threatened to kill the baby by cutting it in half and giving half to each lady.  The real mother, the one who cared, said to give it to the other person.  So it was with the Jews and Eretz Israel.  When the UN planned to give the Arabs land and decided to cut it into 80% and 20% with the largest piece going to the Arab King Abdullah I, the Jews went along with it to save the land and save their own people.  Not so Fatah and Hamas terrorists.  They are fighting in every imaginable way to take all the land from the Jews including such lies.  Palestine was just a backwash piece of unwanted, weedy, mosquito infested swamp and desert that nobody wanted until the Jews rose up on their high horse and started to develop it when exiled Jews started returning in the 1880s.

What were the Arabs doing then?  They weren't doing so well and had no ideas about "returning to the land" like the Jews.  The land had been under the Ottoman Empire for the past 600 years and this Turkish rule was harsh.  The Palestinian peasants' life was already deteriorating because of taxes.  Those that owned a bit of land  would be forced to borrow money to pay taxes, causing these farmers to put themselves under protection of the very rich bigger landowners or of the Muslim religious endowment fund (Waqf.  They were eventually compelled to give up their title to the land.

In 1858 there was the Turkish Land Registry Law but until then there were no official deeds giving these fellahs title to land.  Their own Muslim culture consisted of blood-feuds between families, clans and entire villages including  incursions by Bedouin tribes.  So we see with the Muslim that the rich took advantage of the poor and drove them away.  By the 1880s when Jews were arriving because they were leaving anti-Semitic lands that were impossible to live in anymore, they bought land from large landowners who were anxious to leave as well and go to real cities such as Paris and Beirut.  The amazing thing is that the homes of some of the Arabs had Jewish symbols on them, showing past residents were Jews who had lived there.
1967 meant being able to again stand at the Wall in Jerusalem

Outside the Knesset in Jerusalem-The Menorah
This anti-Semitic world has not yet recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, though it has been since 1967 when the Six Day War took place and Israel won against immeasurable odds.   Then we have the Palestinians who refuse to recognize Israel as a state let alone Israel as its capital.  They are getting away with it because the rest of the world is not ready to accept the fact that Jerusalem is the capital and always has remained so.  Face it.  It's importance has only been to the Jews.  Jesus recognized it as the capital, though, and held his Last Supper there.  This is the reason Christians are interested in it; for their own religious connection to the city.  Muslims have the saga of Muhammad flying there on his horse which they have deemed as the farthest mosque.  The religious places of Christians and Muslims are safely guarded by the Israeli government.  This has not proved true under their administrations for the Jews.

It was c1320 BCE when Joshua entered Canaan.  Jerusalem was a watering hole then from the Old Stone Age period (Paleolithic).  Foundations date back to 3500-2000 BCE.  Old.  Yes.  Israel sits on ancient land.  However, Jews have never left the land nor had they left Jerusalem.

"In ancient days, Judaism revolved around the Temple in Jerusalem. The Sanhedrin, which governed the nation, was located in the Temple precincts. The Temple service was at the heart of the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur  holiday

The Temple was central to the Three pilgrim festivals, namely PassoverShavuot and Sukkot, when all Jews were incumbent to gather in Jerusalem. Every seven years all Jews were required to assemble at the Temple for the Hakhel reading. The forty-nine day Counting of the Omer recalls the Omer offering which was offered at the Temple every day between Passover and Shavuot. The eight-day festival of Hanukkah celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple after its desecration by Antiochus IV. A number of fast days including the Ninth of Av, theTenth of Tevet and the Seventeenth of Tammuz, all recall the destruction of the Temple."

Tell me:  Would the Parisians allow Paris to be in foreign hands and have a name change? Jews lived here in Roman times.
Would the Romans allow Rome to come another's rule? Jewish community here was the oldest in Europe and one of the oldest in the world dating from 139 BCE
Would Americans allow Washington DC to fall into China's hands?  1776 is its birthday.

New Israel Fund Behind the BDS against Israel

Nadene Goldfoot

                BDS

Israel has enemies from the darnedest regions today, places you'd never suspect.  I just found out that the "New Israel Fund" is one of them.  Jewish Community Centers have been donating money to this fund and in turn it's doing its best to harm Israel, of all places for a fund with Israel in its title. The clue is to notice the word, NEW.

"In addition, Daniel Sokatch, CEO of NIF, says that in line with their "core values of democracy and equality, we support two states for two peoples and we oppose the occupation and the settlement enterprise." In June 2012, NIF marched with a "progressive cluster" in the New York Celebrate Israel parade; the cluster included AmeinuAmericans for Peace NowB’Tselem USAPartners for Progressive Israel, and Rabbis for Human Rights-North America."

Katusha rocket range
I'd like to give these people a geography test and then take them on a little field trip to these places so that they can see how close everything is.  I have taken that trip.  Israel's narrow strip from Samaria is 9 miles wide, all bared to rocket fire.

First I was alerted by friends in the "know" about it.  I checked with our leader, Bob Horenstein of the MJCC in Portland, and he said the Center's money was not going to them.

Then I checked their website and it looks so benign.  They seem to be doing good things, and are so well organized all over the world.  I noticed a lot of the leaders were from California and most were Jews.  They have a board of directors, mostly all Jews.  Amal El Sana Albyooj wasn't, and was a Bedouin from Beersheva who is working on her PhD at McGill U, a very prestigious university in Canada.  Elah Alkalay from Kfar Mordechay was in business with several degrees.  Could this group be so naive that they don't realize what they're doing?  I doubt it.  They just have a good cover.

These on the left, now calling themselves the Progressive Cluster, for they must be as such  to do what they are doing, are leading the way in having people all over the world Boycott, Divest and Sanction business coming out of Israel.  It's attacking Tel Aviv, not just the territories of Judea and Samaria.

Israel has gotten wise, however and are stacking up the lawsuits against people who are practicing BDS.  This comes from a 2011 law enabling civil recovery actions against those attacking Israeli individuals, companies and institutions with BDS.  This is so those suffering losses by BDS activity can sue for actual damages.  Critics are predicting litigation against the NIF and its NGO grantees that promote BDS.

NIF was in the picture early on when BDS was a new set of initials.

UN Resolution 181 initiated a partition of the land into 2 states.  The lines between the parties have never been mutually agreed upon or delineated.  Israel claims the land under international law.  The International community mainly rejects the claim and as far as I can see, can't counter it.  They just don't like it.

This means that the land of Judea and Samaria are now covered by the recent Israeli Supreme Court ruling.  Many of these BDS activities have targeted all of Israel including Israeli universities in Tel Aviv and Haifa, the national shipping line, Zim, and products like Ahava cosmetics and Sodastream.

Calling for boycott and participating in it, can sometimes be considered "POLITICAL TERROR."   This was pronounced by Supreme Court Justice Hanan Melcer.  THE CULTURAL ACADEMIC BOYCOTT OF ISRAEL IS INTENDING TO PARALYZE AND SILENCE POLITICAL EXPRESSION TO MAKE ONE OPINION AND ONE TRUTH ONLY. Justice Yitzhak Amit announced this.   Of course that one truth would come from people against Israel, like this New Israel Fund and its backers.  Israel doesn't do things like that in their universities, but this seems to be happening on campuses in the USA.  A university is supposed to prepare a student to look at all sides of an issue, pro and con.  Debates do a lot of educating.

Almost every American university is against Israel with their anti-Israel weeks.   This shows how clever a group like this can affect young college students and warp their minds.  They don't have the backgrounds to realize or the interest to fight such things.  It's just easier to go along with them and makes the parties more socially acceptable.  .

This Law upheld in Israel's Supreme Court now resembles ordinary tort law of England the USA.  Some speech has legal consequences and that includes defamation, infringement and business interference.

Ronn Torossian is a public-relations specialist who has written about NIF.  The NIF boycotts hurt both Israel and Palestinian Arabs, and is simply racist at its core.  It's anti-democratic and wrong.

A month before this ruling, a letter had come out declaring a warning that the New Israel Fund should not support publicly or privately any boycott or similar effort against the Israeli government or the nation's organization, academic institutions, corporations or other entities.

In the past, NIF has stated that its activites are for achieving a more democratic state.  You can't make a state more democratic than Israel is.  Filled with Jews from every part of the world, 1.7 million Arabs from a variety of religious and social strata, Christians of many types and colors and a range of political views that even include Communism, I always wonder how Netanyahu keeps from having a nervous breakdown.  It was all I could do to handle Jewish parents of my class in the states!   I bow to the Knesset to get so much accomplished, and to Mossad who is far nicer and more clever than NCIS paints them out  to be.

You also can't force a state to become Democratic, like has been tried with Egypt and other places.  They each have their own particular style and problems and will learn from watching others.  Frankly, our own USA has changed since it first started out as a Democratic state.  Israel is only 67 years old.  It's doing far better than the USA did at that age.  Oh yes, computers and cell phones to help.  I know, but people don't advance as fast as they do.  Look at ISIS.  They're still wielding swords and cutting heads off of people they disagree with, something populations in the 6th Century did.

No, Israel isn't perfect, but like me, they keep on striving to be.  It's our nature.  I lived in Israel for over 5 years, from 1980 to the end of 1985 teaching English at the junior high.  I wonder if any of these New Israel Fund people have stepped out of their social circle and made attempts to know the rest of the Israelis in our tiny country.  Have the Californians visited Israel for a trip longer than 10 days?  Israelis haven't been raised in the USA except for the ones like me who moved there, and we are in the minority.

For a people from every corner of the world who have felt hatred far more than I have, they have a fantastic appreciation and practice of Democracy.  All Israelis, men and women,  face going into service-and for men that means till age 55.  True, our religiously bent have been excused, but that is changing.  The country is based as a Jewish state and it would be horrible to run out of these academics.  After all, this is the main state for Jews in the whole world, a refuge, as it is, but who are attacked all the time.

IDF from Nahal
In this state one doesn't declare that they are conscientious objectors and get out of the service.  They go into Yeshivas instead, and study and maintain grades.  About 50% of those Israeli over 18 serve.  The service is a great equalizer for the social life of these young people.  I love the fact that many young women wind up as sergeants training the young men.
Ethiopian IDF
Christian Arab IDF

Druze IDF
The New Israel Fund says its objectives are "  social justice and equality for all Israelis.  It's a cover to take down the country.   To get their brand of social justice they think is missing, their reasoning is to deprive all in Israel of their economic ability to provide for their families.  They don't do it like they're supposed to by their voting power.  The IDF is the country's great social mixer.  Arabs are there because they want to be.  They're not forced.  It's their country, too, and they want to help protect it.

Naftali Bldg, Tel Aviv University
There are social differences in Israel.  Arab and Jew, Ashkenazi and Sephardi and Mizrachi, religious and non-religious, Jew and Muslim, educated and non-educated, from the IDF and no service record, and worst of all, Israeli and terrorists.  Political beliefs range from extreme left to extreme right.  Everyone is vocal. Everyone has their opinion.   They are not that much different with these house problems than the USA.  They don't need to have their businesses and universities marked as unfit because someone else outside of the country wants to run the show.

As for the 2 state solution, it must be known that Netanyahu would like that, too, but it isn't humanly possible to come about at this time.  Even the New Israel Fund people couldn't sit in his chair and change the Palestinians from their goals as listed in Hamas Charter, and even Fatah share these same beliefs.  They're not so secretive about it anymore.

"Until September 2007, Fatah's constitution calling for the eradication of Israel was on its English-language Web site in translation. Fatah's English-language Web site (www.fateh.net) has apparently since been removed, but caches of that Web site remain.  Below is the English translation of the Fatah Constitution as it appeared on the Fatah English-language Web site on August 25, 2007:     Article (5) Liberating Palestine is a national obligation which necessities the materialistic and human support of the Arab Nation
Article (7) The Zionist Movement is racial, colonial and aggressive in ideology, goals, organisation and method.
Article (8) The Israeli existence in Palestine is a Zionist invasion with a colonial expansive base, and it is a natural ally to colonialism and international imperialism.
Article (9) Liberating Palestine and protecting its holy places is an Arab, religious and human obligation.
Article (17) Armed public revolution is the inevitable method to liberating Palestine.
Article (22) Opposing any political solution offered as an alternative to demolishing the Zionist occupation in Palestine, as well as any project intended to liquidate the Palestinian case or impose any international mandate on its people.
Fatah terrorists
"Abbas' Fatah wants to destroy Israel:
"What was taken by force
can only be regained by force"

These  New  Israel Fund leaders should know that Israel has tried for 67 years to have a Palestine next door-but one who wants peace and will recognize them and experience mutual recognition.  If you bother to look at their form of religion and Charter, it's not in the cards.  Again, you cannot force people to do  anything.  They must see the reasoning to do it.

Fatah leaves clues all over to show their intention is not peaceful.

"When the 'storm' Al-Asifa (i.e., a reference to Fatah's military wing in the 1960's and 1970's) roars and the nation applauds the eternal Fatah, the world's dwarfs should remain in their burrows."
[Facebook, "Fatah - The Main Page," May 13, 2015

However, it looks like J Street is not too happy with this ruling from Israel's Supreme Court.  .  " Back on October 23, 2013, the headline

J Street and New Israel Fund Call ADL’s “Top Anti-Israel Groups” List “Short-Sighted and Unproductive.”  J Street said: There is room for an important debate about BDS, a debate we believe we can win and are winning. We can and should discuss the contours of a final negotiated settlement, Israel’s future as a democracy, and the complexities of Israel-Diaspora relations.  I see there is a connection between the two. A Marcia Freedman, former Knesset member born in the USA spoke at the J Street meeting as if Israelis are guilty of displacing the Arabs and wants Jews out.  She needs Kum-Buy-Yah in the background as she talks of cooperation and our guilt that J Street goes for.

The cloak of Zionism that the New Israel Fund and J Street have appropriated for themselves are deliberate manipulative fabrications. There is nothing at all to connect Zionism and a state of all its citizens.
Any call to nullify the state of Israel as a Jewish state – as a Jewish and democratic state –is tantamount to a call for the murder of all Jews and, ironically, most of the minorities living in the land of Israel.
In understanding some of the social barriers in Israel, I just read a book which pointed them out that I laughed all the way through.  Anyone reading this article must get the book.  It's about a Moroccan Jew, Israel's sexiest superspy, unhappy as he is a Mizrachi and feels they are beneath the Ashkenazis, who becomes a spy for Mossad.  Hilarious!  It's called THE MOROCCAN, by C.A. Haddad-a superthriller of international intrigue with "the irresistibly zany quality of Mash.  Intermarriage and the IDF are great equilizers between the young of Israel of all social spheres.  Love conquers all problems-at least for a little while.  Don't you worry, you New Israel Fund people.  Israelis are mixing it up nicely without your assistance.  In fact, if people will buy their goods, they'll do even better.

Update: 5/28/15:  from StandWithUs:  Breaking News!!
BDS Defeat at Washington Supreme Court
StandWithUs is thrilled to share the news that, in a major setback to the anti-Israel boycott, divestment, sanctions (BDS) campaign, this morning the Washington State Supreme Court held, by a vote of 9-0 that a lawsuit can proceed against Olympia Food Co-op board members, challenging their 2011 decision to boycott Israeli products.
