True Facts About UNRWA And UNESCO

 Nadene Goldfoot

UN building in New York:  An image from UNRWA's digitized archive was projected on the UN Headquarters building in New York to mark the end of the UN's International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.  Palestinians have received their needs from UNRWA ever since 1948, and their number keep on growing as each generation appears.

Israeli parliament votes to ban UNRWA from Israel within 90 days

While it has received praise and recognition for its work by various governments, public figures, and independent monitors, UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) has also been subject to criticism and controversy related to its operations, role in the Gaza Strip, relationship with Hamas, and textbook content.   The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA is a UN agency that supports the relief and human development of Palestinian refugees

Most recently, the agency faced allegations by the Israeli government that twelve of its employees were involved in the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, leading to lay-offs, an investigation, and the temporary suspension of funding by numerous donors. As of May 2024, several major donors have since resumed funding as the investigation remains ongoing.  Lawmakers also voted to declare UN relief agency a terror group, banning any direct interaction with Israeli state.

UNESCO, or the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is a specialized agency of the United Nations that works to promote peace and security through international cooperation in education, science, culture, and communication.

UNESCO was founded in 1945 as the successor to the League of NationsInternational Committee on Intellectual Cooperation. UNESCO's founding mission, which was shaped by the events of World War II, is to advance peacesustainable development and human rights by facilitating collaboration and dialogue among nations. It pursues this objective through five major programme areas: education, natural sciencessocial/human sciences, culture and communication/information. UNESCO sponsors projects that improve literacy, provide technical training and education, advance science, protect independent media and press freedom, preserve regional and cultural history, and promote cultural diversity. The organization prominently helps establish and secure World Heritage Sites of cultural and natural importance.

Everything they have been doing is slanted in the Palestinian favor.  What they have been dishing out is anti-Semitism to the children and adults.  Palestinians are  people on the dole of the UN for the longest time.

UNRWA's mandate encompasses Palestinians who fled  during the the 1948 War, when Jews declared Israel a state, and subsequent conflicts, as well as their descendants, including legally adopted children. As of 2019, more than 5.6 million Palestinians are registered with UNRWA as refugees.  As of 2024, approximately 5.9 million Palestinians are registered with UNRWA as refugees.

UNRWA was established in 1949 by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to provide relief to all refugees resulting from the 1948 conflict; this initially included Jewish and Arab Palestine refugees inside the State of Israel until the Israeli government took over this responsibility in 1952.   As a subsidiary body of the UNGA, UNRWA's mandate is subject to periodic renewal every three years; it has consistently been extended since its founding, most recently until 30 June 2026.

UNRWA employs over 30,000 people, most of them Palestinian refugees, and a small number of international staff. Originally intended to provide employment and direct relief, its mandate has broadened to include providing education, health care, and social services to its target population.

UNRWA operates in five areas: JordanLebanonSyria, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalemaid for Palestinian refugees outside these five areas is provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), established in 1950 as the main agency to aid all other refugees worldwide.

UNRWA is the only UN agency dedicated to helping refugees from a specific region or conflict, and that has been the Palestinians.  UNRWA has developed its own working definition of "refugee" to allow it to provide humanitarian assistance. Its definition does not cover final status.   Palestine refugees are "persons whose regular place of residence was Palestine during the period 1 June 1946 to 15 May 1948, and who lost both home and means of livelihood as a result of the 1948 conflict."

On 8 December 1949, the General Assembly adopted Resolution 302(IV), which established the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The resolution was adopted and passed unopposed, supported by Israel and the Arab states, with only the Soviet bloc and South Africa abstaining.

Historically, most of the agency's funds came from the United States ($7 billion in total) and the European Commission; in 2019, close to 60 percent of its total pledge of $1.00 billion came from EU countries, with Germany being the largest individual donor. The next largest donors were the EU, United Kingdom, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates, followed by Saudi Arabia, France, Japan, Qatar, and the Netherlands. UNRWA also establishes partnerships with nongovernmental donors, including nonprofit "national committees" based in donor countries.

It's either naivety or plain lying to believe the following:  "Oh I am sure that there are Hamas members on the UNRWA payroll and I don't see that as a crime. Hamas as a political organization does not mean that every member is a militant and we do not do political vetting and exclude people from one persuasion as against another. We demand of our staff, whatever their political persuasion is, that they behave in accordance with UN standards and norms for neutrality." This is on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNRWA.

Knesset's New Law Long-Time Coming, Preventing UNESCO FROM Aiding/ Abetting Hamas In Israel OR Judea/Samaria

 Nadene Goldfoot

Israel's single chamber parliament is called the Knesset, created in 1949.  It has 120 seats which are filled by proportional representation based on the total vote in the country.  All men and women with Israel citizenship above the age of 18, have the right to vote.  Candidates for election must be above the age of 25.  In 1966, it moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

We must remember that the state of Israel was proclaimed by the Palestine Jewish authorities on May 14, 1948, on the eve of the day Great Britain relinquished its control.  When the Arab armies invaded Israel, no concrete help was afforded by the UN in implementing its resolution but UN mediators negotiated the subsequent cease fire and armistice agreements supervised by a Truce Supervision Organization with headquarters in Jerusalem.  Our tsuris (problems)  with Palestinians has gone on for a long time!

Israel has finally done what it should have done a long time ago!  Israel’s Knesset has approved a law banning the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine from operating inside Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The U.N. agency, known as UNRWA, is tasked with providing food, healthcare and social services to Palestinians and is a critical lifeline to Gaza’s surviving 2.3 million residents who, they say,  face widespread famine and malnutrition due to (Israel’s unrelenting, yearlong assault). They can't even come out and admit that this has happened since October 7, 2023, when Israel suffered a horrible surprise attack by Palestinians who maliciously slaughtered young dancing Israelis with their friends at the end of a Jewish holiday.  Israel's unrelenting, yearlong assault, my eye!  Finally, after putting up with the PLO who Hamas has replaced, of their vicious attacks, Israel is rebelling against the UN who has aided and abetted the Palestinians in many ways.  UNRWA has gotten away with murder because they have operated under the UN.

Sharren Haskel, 40,  of the Likud Party was born in TorontoOntarioCanada to a Jewish family, the middle of three sisters. Her father, Amir, was born in Israel, and is from a family of Palmach veterans from moshav Tzofit. Her mother, Fabienne, was born in Morocco.   She is a member of the Knesset for the National Unity Party, having previously served as a member of Likud and for New Hope. When she was first elected, she was the youngest member of Likud and the second youngest member of the 20th Knesset.

The ban on UNRWA was approved in a 92-10 vote with the full support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party. Israeli lawmaker Sharren Haskel co-authored the legislation.  UNRWA hasn't done a thing to bring back the over 200 Israeli hostages that Hamas has held nor have they taken steps to have Hamas end their attack on Israel.

However, Israel claims that the agency of UNRWA has ties to Hamas, the militant group Israel is battling in Gaza.  ðŸŽ§ Israel is saying that some Palestinian UNRWA staffers took part in the Oct. 7 attack, NPR’s Daniel Estrin tells Up First. Israel claimed to have discovered a Hamas command center located directly beneath UNRWA's headquarters in Gaza. The United Nations has warned that implementing a ban could have devastating consequences, while the U.S. State Department emphasized that UNRWA plays an irreplaceable role in Gaza. The U.S. has cautioned Israel in a letter that if it proceeds with this plan, there could be repercussions under U.S. law, which could include withholding weapons and military aid to Israel.  Isn't that what "friends" are for?  It would have been nice if the USA patted Israel on the back and said something like, We admire you for the gumption of speaking up!  And, "everybody figured a long time ago that they were helping out Hamas ! "

The latest is that Iraq has gone to the UN complaining of Israel using their air-space in bombing Iran's military sites that produce missiles that have attacked Israel recently.  I do believe they have paved the way to let the UN hear of our complaints against terrorism.

After the knesset outlawed UNRWA, (and they called the knesset "the Parliament"  NBC came up with this magnified report:  More than 90 people, including 20 children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza early Tuesday, local officials said, the deadliest attack in months as it wages a renewed assault on the north of the Palestinian enclave.  They added that it was in a move that could throttle the supply of medicine, food and education in the devastated territory. Well, I have news for NBC.  Hamas steals the shipment of medicine and food and sells it to the Palestinians at very very high prices, so rich come, rich are served.  And as for education, all along since the beginning of their organization they have taught children anti-Semitic slogans and a make-believe history against Jews.

"In the U.S., the first Jewish member of the House of Representatives was David Levy Yulee in 1845 who was also the first Jewish senator and was from Florida.  "Yulee was born on the island of St. Thomas, then under British control, to a Sephardic Jewish family; his father was a trader from Morocco and his mother, also of Sephardi descent, was born in Sint Eustatius and raised in St. Thomas.  So, Trump;  look at this Jewish Latino, so close to Puerto Rico, and take back those anti-Semitic comments !

People Who Can't Tell The Difference Between Humor and People Who Just Make Fun Of Others

 Nadene Goldfoot

He called Puerto Rico ‘a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean’ before insulting Latinos, and Jewish and Black people – and even the Trump campaign distanced itself from the comments.  Raised in Youngstown, Ohio, Hinchcliffe is a stand-up comedian who specializes in the roast style, in which comedians take the podium to needle a celebrity victim with personal and often tasteless jokes. He has written and appeared on eight Comedy Central Roasts, including for Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady. Tasteless people obviously like tasteless comics.  This is not humor.  Obviously, he's not a Jewish comic.  The comic industry has been home to many Jews who have felt the brunt of anti-Semitism and found that humor pulled them through the pain of it all, but this is not even funny; no tickle of the funnybone.

The population of Puerto Rico is estimated to be 3,242,204 people in 2024. This makes up 0.04% of the world's population, and Puerto Rico ranks 135th in the world for population. It is a part of the United States.  organized as an unincorporated territory of the United States under the designation of commonwealth. Located about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) southeast of MiamiFlorida, between the Dominican Republic in the Greater Antilles and the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Lesser Antilles, it consists of the eponymous main island and numerous smaller islands.

Tony Hinchcliffe, calling himself a comic, who was entertaining Trump followers at his rally, had the audacity to call Puerto Rico a garbage island !  He has insulted all Puerto Ricans by doing so. Speaking before the Republican presidential candidate at a rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, comedian and podcast host Tony Hinchcliffe added that Latinos "love making babies" and that they do not "pull out," comments that leaned into a racist trope that Latinos are preoccupied with childbearing and averse to birth control."There's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now," Hinchcliffe said. "I think it's called Puerto Rico."

Enrique Martin Morales, a well-known singer,  born December 24, 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, 52 years old;  The comments have led to condemnation from Democrats and Puerto Rican celebrities, with Ricky Martin sharing a clip of Hinchcliffe’s set, captioned, “This is what they think of us.”

Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin unleashed on Donald Trump during Monday’s The View, after the former president’s Sunday night rally at Madison Square Garden featured incendiary “jokes” from comedian Tony Hinchcliffe.

THE VIEW ladies have a Puerto Rican among them.  The program today talked about how terrible this was to their heritage.  They even mentioned Black people that were included in the anti-Latino comment, but they neglected to comment the blatant anti-Semitism that this guy spewed out which was caught by an inquisitive  Jewish  viewer.

Hostin was born on October 20, 1968, in New York City to a Puerto Rican mother, Rosa Beza, and an African American father, William Cummings. Her maternal grandfather was a Sephardic Jew. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Rhetoric from Binghamton University and a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.

Asunción "SunnyCummings Hostin (/ˈhÉ’stɪn/; born October 20, 1968) is an American lawyer, journalist, author, and television host. Hostin is co-host on ABC's morning talk show The View, for which she received nominations for Daytime Emmy Awards, as well as the Senior Legal Correspondent and Analyst for ABC News. She was also the host and executive producer of Investigation Discovery's true crime series Truth About Murder with Sunny Hostin.

What is this?  Are people so used to accepting anti-Semitic remarks that they neglect to react when they hear this?  Watch out Latinos, it may happen to you next.

And that reminds me.  There are, of course, Jewish Puerto Ricans amongst us.  Geraldo Rivera is one of them.  Rivera was born at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, the son of Lillian (née Friedman; 1924–2018) and Cruz "Allen" Rivera (1915–1987), a restaurant worker and taxicab driver respectively. He is of Galician ancestry through his father, who was from Puerto Rico. His mother was Ashkenazi Jewish, while his father was Roman Catholic. Rivera was raised "mostly Jewish" and had a bar mitzvah ceremony.

Geraldo Rivera (born Geraldo Riviera; July 4, 1943) is an American journalist, attorney, author, and political commentator who worked at the Fox News Channel from 2001 to 2023.   Rivera is a common family name in Puerto Rico, which received a significant population of colonists from Galicia, Spain, in the 16th century. The name Rivera is also very common among Sephardic Jews. He is also related to the Lebovitzes of Brooklyn.

The Jewish immigration to Puerto Rico began in the 15th century with the arrival of the anusim (variously called conversosCrypto-JewsSecret Jews or marranos) who accompanied Christopher Columbus on his second voyage. An open Jewish community did not flourish in the colony because Judaism was prohibited by the Spanish Inquisition. However, many migrated to mountainous parts of the island, far from the central power of San Juan, and continued to self-identify as Jews and practice Crypto-Judaism, or hidden Jews.  Imagine not being able to practice Judaism by lighting candles on a Friday night, something they had to do in secret, or having people intently watching if they ever ate pork or why they didn't, and if they did they went to the religious police to turn them in, practicing something against the law...They spoke Ladino, a mixture of Spanish and Hebrew, just like Ashkenazi Jews spoke Yiddish, a mixture of German and Hebrew.  Jews were killed if they had tried to hide the fact that they were Jewish and had been forced to convert.  They were often burned at the stake to death.

The first large group of Jews to settle in Puerto Rico were refugees fleeing German–occupied Europe in the 1930s and 1940s. The second influx came in the 1950s, when thousands of Cuban Jews (most of Eastern-European descent) fled after Fidel Castro came to power. The majority immigrated to Miami, Florida, but a sizable portion chose to establish and integrate themselves on the neighboring island because of Puerto Rico's cultural, linguistic, racial, and historic similarities to Cuba.

“I despise comparisons to Nazis and the Holocaust but truly felt shades of 1939 watching clips from today: crowds at MSG cheering the most insane and racist and unpatriotic bullshit under the banner of ‘America First,’” tweeted the Jewish comedian Alex Edelman, who has recently canvassed for Harris. It has often been described as such by others.  Anti-Semitism is at such a height;  just look at this rally.    Alex has had a different environment.  Edelman was born in Boston to Cheryl, a real estate lawyer, and Elazer R. Edelman, a biomedical engineer, cardiologist, and professor. He has two brothers, Austin, and Israeli Olympian Adam Edelman. He was raised in Brookline, Massachusetts. He began performing stand-up at age 15. He attended and graduated from Maimonides School in Brookline, a modern Orthodox Jewish day school. A baseball fan, he has worked for the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Edelman grew up in a modern Orthodox Jewish family and, following high school, spent a year in a yeshiva in Jerusalem. During his time there, he helped to establish the city's first comedy club, Off the Wall Comedy. In 2008, he moved to New York City to study English at New York University and graduated in 2012.  A few years ago, the comedian Alex Edelman decided on a whim to show up uninvited to a casual meeting of white nationalists at an apartment in New York City, and pose as one of them. Why? He was curious. He wanted to see what it would be like to be on the inside of a gathering that would never have knowingly included him, given that he is Jewish. The events of that night became fodder for his one-man show Just for Us, which has toured across the United States and overseas in recent years, and opens on Broadway tonight.

Jewish Trump supporters disagree: Far from being a Nazi-style gathering, they say, the rally boasted Jews in the stands and onstage in the country’s most Jewish city. Speakers throughout the night pledged to defend Israel. Orthodox Jews sang Hasidic songs as they waited to get in. The conservative radio host Dave Rubin tweeted a picture of an Israeli flag in the crowd.  Evidently they only watch Fox News.  They block out all the facts making Trump impossible to accept as a President of the United States that everyone else not only notices but is frantic about, it's so bad.  Trump, via his son-in-law, has helped Israel immensely, and Trump receives all the praise.  It is Jerad Kushner, who has done all the work and has put his own love into the project that has helped Israel (See my article about it )
