Melanie Phillips has moved from the left to the right in London, of all places. What has soured her on her outlook of life to change so? She's a spokesperson that I hadn't heard of here in the USA, but she and I are on pretty much the same pages.
She wrote an article called "Jews Misread America's Cultural Civil War" and point out that this is not only an "immensely dangerous moment for the west," but also for Israel and the Jewish people.
That's where we agree. I see my own people tearing Trump apart in their disagreement that he was elected by the laws of our country fairly to be president because he not only was from the Republican side, but that he did not present their own Democratic ideals. The direction that they were going into was the opposite direction that Trump was going and he wasn't using the same tactics they were at all. For instance, he didn't spend half the money they did in running their campaign. He expressed himself sometimes in unbecoming ways. Pundits today are calling him insane and asking speakers if it isn't time to throw him out of office.
She wrote, "At Charlottesville, the former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke ranted in deranged fashion about alleged Jewish power over the media and banking system and about the ”Zionist ethno-state of Israel”. But this vile outpouring is indistinguishable from the anti-Semitic tropes spewed out by “antifa” groups, of the kind that clashed at Charlottesville, and beyond them the left in general and beyond then too; indeed the trope of Jewish power controlling the world was institutionalized by Mearsheimer and Walt in their book The Israel Lobby, and yet they (Mearsheimer and Walt) remain esteemed and even lionized in academia." The sad truth is that when the academia accept such ideas made up of lies, too many Democrats and Republicans and Independents buy into it, and are hooked by thinking that the academia must know best because they are academia, people who must be able to reason the best, and they don't check facts for themselves because they think they are just too busy or it's unnecessary.
Columnists here in the USA and elsewhere have been just as guilty if not more so. There is one thought coming out of of Democrats ever since Trump was elected, and that's to get Trump ousted. There's so much peer pressure that few are able to stand alone and face the mob with differing facts. I'm surprised that such a lady as Melanie Phillips has done so. She, as I also do, see greater fears than Trump in our lives. It's like crying over crumbs dropped on the kitchen floor when the Walking Dead are clawing at the door ready to break it down.
She wrote, "Black Lives Matter, a core antifa group which was at Charlottesville, is said by Alan Dershowitz to have “declared war against the nation state of the Jewish people”. Isn’t the support for BLM by so many American Jewish liberals the thing that’s really beyond belief?" It's like: here we go again with the Blacks being against the Jews-the apartment owners and the tenants' fight of New York, basically that caused friction between the two people long ago. Just like other groups in our history, everything that bothers people becomes the fault of the Jews. Forget the facts that Jews were the first to step in and come to the Blacks' aid in their time of crisis in the 60's and some even died with them.
Indeed, the antifa arrived at Charlottesville equipped for violence with baseball bats and sticks." Nobody on the left has admitted this important fact. That's why Trump didn't come right out and call them like the Democrats were. He said he was checking on the facts, and obviously he did. As it turned out, this is the way the antifa is reacting these days. Gone are the ideas of passive resistance of Martin Luther King with this group.
Here in the USA, Jewish Democrats made up a good 80 % of the Jewish population, but it fell to about 70% in 2012. 22% of the Jews in the USA are Orthodox, tending to vote Republican. 33% are Conservative and 38% are Reform, both usually voting Democrat.
"In the 2008 presidential election, 78% of Jews voted for Barack Obama, who became the first African-American to be elected president. Polls indicate during this election, 83% of "white" Jews voted for Obama compared to just 34% of white Protestants and 47% of white Catholics, though 67% of those identifying with another religion and 71% identifying with no religion also voted Obama.
In the 2012 presidential election, 68% of Jews voted for Barack Obama.
It's been a long standing opinion to vote Democratic since the days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt when they remembered the Jews who were trapped in Europe and unable to get out to freedom away from the Nazis. I see the Democrats have changed from their original standards, but evidently many of my brethren haven't noticed. Melanie is pointing this out to them.
Times have changed and so have the Democrats. They're no longer the support the Jews have needed in an anti-Semitic society. They've become that society. They've gone from Democratic values to Socialistic ones and others I can't even categorize. That's how we see it. We notice the differences that have developed.
