Food Trucks From Who To Gaza?

 Nadene Goldfoot

WFP trucks started crossing into Gaza via Zikim and Kerem Shalom crossings. The first trucks carried life-saving wheat flour and ready-to-eat food parcels for people in desperate need. WFP aims to deliver food daily along humanitarian corridors, which include Egypt, Jordan and Israel crossing points. This ceasefire is critical for the humanitarian response. Safety and access must be ensured. WFP/Photolibrary.  World Food Program is the UN dealer who deny Israeli claims that Hamas is stealing the food off the trucks.
Update: 6/1/25  The speaker for WFP denied today on TV that anything they did was wrong.  She blames all the other distributers of food as lying about the conditions.  She refuses to believe that Hamas terrorism is doing anything to delay the food distribution.

Two humanitarian aid distribution centers run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) began operations in southern Gaza on Tuesday-May 27, 2025, distributing 462,000 meals.

The foundation noted that food distribution experienced delays of several hours due to Hamas attempts to establish roadblocks on routes leading to the distribution site. It is still unclear who is funding the GHF. Prime Minister Netanyahu denied any Israeli government funding for the foundation. The company running the distribution operations is U.S. based. A foreign country has reportedly donated $100 million to the foundation.

Due to Israeli checkpoints into Gaza, the Israeli government and IDF have controlled the entrance of humanitarian aid into Gaza, with aid delivery disrupted multiple times over the years, either via government blockades or civilian actions. Since March 2, 2025, very little humanitarian aid has been allowed into Gaza, with concerns about famine in Gaza being raised by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

According to a report by The New York Times, the idea of an Israeli-backed private food distribution program was discussed in December 2023. Throughout 2024, Israeli officials worked with private American security contractors, primarily CIA veteran Philip Reilly, to develop a plan. Reilly later launched the security company Safe Reach Solutions (SRS) in January 2025, which was tasked with securing food distribution sites in Gaza. In essence, while SRS is involved in the physical delivery of food aid, their broader role is part of a complex and debated new aid system that is attempting to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza while also taking into account Israeli security concerns.   Foreign contractors are set to carry out a contentious new food aid system in Gaza, displacing experienced aid agencies like the United Nations. It was conceived and largely developed by Israelis as a way to undermine Hamas, who was stealing and selling the food at high prices.  Reports and footage have emerged showing Hamas taking control of humanitarian aid trucks entering Gaza, including attacking drivers. Part of a New Aid System: SRS is a key part of a new aid distribution system for Gaza, which is designed to operate independently of established international aid organizations like the UN, and is backed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Mr. Guterres was born in Lisbon, Portugal  in 1949 and graduated from the Instituto Superior Técnico with a degree in engineering. He is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish. He is married to Catarina de Almeida Vaz Pinto and has two children, a stepson and three grandchildren.  He is 76 years old.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres swiftly rejected Israel’s new aid distribution system in Gaza, saying it breaches international law and humanitarian principles.  In a joint statement, two dozen countries, including the UK, many European Union member states, Australia, Canada and Japan, have supported the UN’s position on the new model. The signatories said it won’t deliver aid effectively at the scale required, and would link aid to political and military objectives.

The new Gaza Humanitarian Foundation was established in February 2025 in DelawareThe executive director was Jake Wood, a former US marine and co-founder of disaster relief agency Team Rubicon. The GHF was publicly launched earlier this year and has the support of both the United States and Israel.

GHF Aid officials said they will screen people for involvement with Hamas militants, perhaps using facial recognition or biometric technology. The stations would distribute aid only once or twice a month at specific locations, with aid being described as pre-packaged rations, hygiene kits, and medical supplies. Their proposal indicates that each meal was budgeted around $1.30 which would include procurement and distribution costs.  Executive director Jake Wood asserted that he "unequivocally ... will not be part of anything that forcibly dislocates or displaces the Palestinian population."  (Read

World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a not-for-profitnon-governmental organization that provides food relief. It was founded in 2010 by Spanish American chef and restaurateur José Andrés following the earthquake in Haiti, and now, the ongoing Gaza humanitarian crisisThe organization has suffered casualties in areas of armed conflict, including  eleven aid workers during the Palestine-Israeli War of the Gaza Strip, seven in the April 2024 aid convoy attack, three in November 2024 and one in March 2025.  In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, World Central Kitchen has been contributing to food deliveries to the Gaza Strip. As of May 2025, it has provided more than 130 million meals. On 2 April, WCK announced a pause to operations after Israeli airstrikes killed seven employees.

There are no nice streamlined freeways here.  One can see it's hard to get a truck through all this traffic and check points for security.
