Remembering Joe Lieberman and Bringing Him Up To Date

Nadene Goldfoot

Born February 24, 1942 in Stamford, Connecticut
His father was Henry Lieberman who was a package-store owner;
mother Marsha was the manager.
Joe graduated Yale with a BA in 1964 and then in 1967 received his LLB
at the Yale Law School.
Joe was married twice; first wife was Betty Haas, with 2 children, ending in divorce, and Hadassah Freilich with 1 child and one stepson, from 1983 till now.  He is Jewish and has never hidden the fact.
"Joseph Isadore Lieberman is an American politician, lobbyist and attorney who served as a United States Senator from Connecticut from 1989 to 2013. A former member of the Democratic Party, he was its nominee for Vice President of the United States in the 2000 election.  Lieberman was Al Gore's running mate in the 2000 presidential campaign. He is the first Jewish person to be nominated by a major party.
He became  an independent."

Now, he is a mentch!  Unlike Bernie Sanders and Mike Bloomberg, he is an observant Jew.   I have to admire him.  He has said that though some members of the Democratic party are anti-Jewish, the Democrat Party itself is not.  He said that individual members do have problems with Jews. "“The Democratic Party is not an anti-Jewish party, but there are some people in the party now, including in Congress as we’ve seen from Congresswoman Omar, who are saying explicitly anti-Semitic things,” Lieberman, who is Jewish, told radio host John Catsimatidis on AM 970 in New York in an interview Sunday, The Hill first reported.

The Republicans won with George Walker Bush and Richard Cheney as his Vice President.

Lieberman is "among the strongest backers of Israel on Capitol Hill." Mark Vogel, chairman of the pro-Israel National Action Committee Political Action Committee (NACPAC), has stated that "Joe Lieberman, without exception, no conditions ... is the No. 1 pro-Israel advocate and leader in Congress.
There is nobody who does more on behalf of Israel than Joe Lieberman. That is why he is incredibly important to the pro-Israel community." According to The Center for Responsive Politics, Lieberman currently ranks fourth on the list of candidates who received money from pro-Israel Political Action Committees (PACs) in 2006.
In 2002, Lieberman sponsored a pro-Israel U.S. Senate Resolution (S. Res. 247) regarding the Middle East Conflict, "expressing solidarity with Israel in its constant efforts to fight against terror".
In an interview with The Associated Press, Lieberman said Israel had a right to launch offensives in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon after two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped.
He added that if Arab countries urged restraint by Hezbollah and Hamas, it "will allow the Israelis to cool down."

Lieberman has been a vocal supporter in Congress for U.S. aerial attacks on Iran justifying such action both for Iran's alleged support of anti-American forces in Iraq as well as for its nuclear program. So Lieberman is a supporter of Trump about Iran.
"President Trump’s order to take out Qasem Soleimani was morally, constitutionally and strategically correct. It deserves more bipartisan support than the begrudging or negative reactions it has received thus far from my fellow Democrats."
Joe noticed the difference between the Democrats being against the act by Trump and the Republicans who were all for it.
"That divided response suggests the partisanship that has infected and disabled so much of U.S. domestic policy now also determines our elected leaders’ responses to major foreign-policy events and national-security issues, even the killing of a man responsible for murdering hundreds of Americans and planning to kill thousands more."
Joe has 9 things listed about him that people disliked, like endorsing Sarah Palin, John McCain, Donald Trump, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, and was an advocate of the Iraq War.  It goes to show that you can't please everyone all the time.  He had his reasons.
At present, ZTE reportedly hired former Sen. Joe Lieberman to spearhead a national security assessment of its products.  Lieberman adds that while he will register as a lobbyist, he will be focusing on his national security evaluation and won’t actually lobby for ZTE on Capitol Hill.
  • Joe as a man is a mentch.  If you ask me, Sanders is no mentch.
