Jews and Palestinians and Their DNA Connections

Nadene Goldfoot

Israeli and Palestinian Muslim Arabs have inherited their Y chromosomes (male line) from the same paternal ancestors who lived in the region within the last few thousand years.  This proves our history of Ishmael (Arab line) and Isaac (Jewish line)  being the sons of Abraham.  This goes back to Abraham who we figure lived in the 2nd millennium BCE or 4,000 years ago.  Abraham's father was Terah.

In the study it was found that more than 70% of the Jewish men and 82% of the Arab men had inherited their Y chromosomes from the same paternal ancestors.  The scientists were studying high-resolution microsatellite haplotypes that showed this.  This proves that Jews came from the land which Palestinian Arabs are denying.  They have returned, much to the denials of the Arabs.  It's not the only proof.  One has to just look at all the excavations that have been going on and  the Torahs and other writings found to know that Jews were there first and foremost.

In the area called the Fertile Crescent, the Jews were found through DNA studies,  to be more closely related to groups in the north of the Fertile Crescent such as the Kurds, Turks, and Armenians than to their Arab neighbors.  They had been divided long enough for ancient segments of the 23 chromosomes to be almost wiped out, showing the more recent dna as the more prevalent.  Even this is showing the Middle East genes they carry.

I figure that once Ishmael left the family group, the two parties remained separate as the Bible maintains,  but that there was a closer connection that had separated to become the other 3 groups.  Ishmael is credited with being the father of the Arab nation.

Greece-750-490 BCE
Where did the Palestinians come from?  In the 2nd century CE, after crushing the last Jewish revolt of Aluf Bar Kokhba,  the Romans turned the screws into the Jews by renaming their land of Judea as  Palaestina.  They did this in order to take away Jewish identification with the land of Israel.  This is where the Arabs get the word "Filastin," their word derived from the Latin word.

The Romans knew about the enemy of the Jews, the Philistines.  They had been an Aegean people who had settled in the 12th century BCE along the Mediterranean coastal plain of what is now Israel and the Gaza Strip.  The Jews had many battles with them.  "The Aegean Sea lies between the coast of Greece and Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). It contains over 2000 islands which were settled by the ancient Greeks."  Crete and Therea are two of the largest islands that could have supplied the Philistines.  Philistines were either all killed or they had become absorbed by the reining Jews.

The Jewish history there started with Abraham going into the land of Canaan, and then with his grandson, Jacob and his entourage of 70 revisiting the land and then traveling to Egypt during a famine.  They returned with Moses and 600,000 because Moses was led there by G-d and it was to be their homeland.  Jacob's 12 sons were the beginning of the 12 tribes that settled there and they formed the 1st constitutional monarchy in the land in about 1,000 BCE.  David, their 2nd king, made Jerusalem the nation's capital.  Eventually after Solomon's death, the state was divided into 2 kingdoms, Israel and Judah.  Jewish independence there lasted for 212 years.  The USA is now 239 years old.

I'll skip along in history to the year 1882 when Russian Jews immigrated back to their ancestor's native land in large groups.  At the time, there was not even 250,000 Arabs living in their ancient land in which there were still Jews existing there along with them in what was land belonging to the Ottoman Empire.  When the Russian Jews and others arrived, they were met by Jews whose families had never left and by other Jews whose families  had returned throughout the generations earlier than the Russians.  Safed was a city of importance and so was Jerusalem, of course.

The great majority of Arabs were also comparative newcomers-either late immigrants or descendants of people who had immigrated into Palestine in the previous 70 years.  There had been no state of Palestine. This is the land the Romans labeled as Palestine-the land of Israel and Judah, called Judea later by the Romans that later came under the Ottoman Empire.

Arabs come from Arabia.  This is where Ishmael most likely went to join others and where Esau went to join Ishmael's people  when Ishmael had departed from Abraham and Sarah.  Arabia has 1,027,000 square miles and is today's Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrein, Qatar, Trucial Oman, Muscat and Oman, and South Yemen.  In the 7th century, Islam was born from Mohammad and Arabs emerged from the desert with an eye to conquest.  They created an empire over 3 continents from the Atlantic Ocean to the border of China.  They conquered Palestine from the Byzantines who had recently acquired it.  Arab rule from Damascus by the Omayyad dynasty lasted over a century.  They were overthrown in 750 by the Abbasids.  Everyone had a hand in holding and losing the land.  This is how Arabic became the language of the land through religion.

By 1948 there were only about 126,000 Arabs in Israel.  By 1972 there were 458,500.
Their illiteracy level was 95% in 1948 but dropped  by being Israeli citizens to  5%.
There were only 15 university students of Arab descent in 1948 but 1,000 by 1972.
Only 4% of mothers gave birth in hospitals in 1948 but in 1972, 93% did.
Life improved greatly for the Arabs who became citizens of Israel.

The Arab-American historian, Princeton University Prof. Philip Hitti, testified against partition before the Anglo-American Committee in 1946.  He said, "There is no such thing as "Palestine" in history, absolutely not."  Also, Palestine is not a word mentioned in the Koran.  It is referred to as "the holy land." (al-arad al Muqaddash).

These Arabs living in what was called Palestine under the Ottomans did not view themselves as having a separate identity.  There was a First Congress of Muslim-Christian Ass. who met in Jerusalem in February 1919 and they chose Palestinian representatives for the Paris Peace Conference.  They adopted this resolution.

"We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time.  We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds."

Again in 1937, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, a local Arab leader, told the Peel Commission that "There is no such country as Palestine!  Palestine is a term the Zionists invented!  There is no Palestine in the Bible.  Our country was for centuries part of Syria."  The Peel commission didn't listen.  They went ahead and suggested the partition of Palestine anyway.

In 1947, just before Israel declared itself the Jewish Homeland, the representative of the Arab Higher Committee to the UN sent a statement to the General Assembly in May 1947 that said, "Palestine was part of the Province of Syria and politically, the Arabs of Palestine were not independent in the sense of forming a separate political entity."

Ahmed Shuqeiri, who became the chairman of the PLO, told the Security Council in about 1950 that "It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria."

One interesting factor that differentiates the peoples of the Middle East more than any other factor is language.  Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Kurdish and Hebrew are spoken.

Pressure on the Palestinian Arabs from internal and external sources did not magnify into wanting their own state of Palestine until after the 1967 war when their leaders faced the fact that they had lost every war against the Jews and had to develop a new slant on getting rid of them.  Both the present day Arabs and the world was quick to forget facts.

  1. i sure enjoy your posts nadene. another good one that really does show us that israel's history is just as the Bible portrays it. and science only backs up the word of God.

  2. It is fantastic, isn't it. I get excited when I see facts like these pop up to prove the history in the bible is true, too.
